One of my favourite pubs in Nottingham. Tried the 6 course taster menu for Burns Night and it was all delicious, prepared with care and it was great value for money. Compliments to the chef, (who my dog is also a big fan of.) The staff were lovely as always. We look forward to going back soon.

Ottimo.

This is the first time I have had food at the Vat and Fiddle and it was bloody brilliant! Me and my girlfriend went on a whim for lunch one Sunday and got two vegetarian roasts for £12.95 each. I was initially skeptical since the Bread and Bitter (Castle Rock) once did me an expensive V roast that was tiny, but this was very generous (as a Sunday roast should be). The seitan meat substitute was delicious. I wondered if this was homemade since it tasted fresh. Needless to say, if so, this is a talent to make good, so hats off to the chef. The rest of the meal was definitely homemade - the yorkie, stuffin, roasties - and were all done extremely well. My only criticism is that I would’ve personally preferred for the veggies to be cooked a little longer - the parsnips and carrots. However, the overall meal was a delight that we devoured. I would recommend this to any vegetarian, as well as the plant-based option for those that way inclined. The staff were all very friendly who cared about delivering a good service that was quick and efficient. The drinks that accompanied our food were 2 pints of Elsi Mo that washed down our meal. This is a personal favourite that I would also recommend to punters and for them to also utilise the points system on the app a great and easy way to build up money for future drinks.

While you still get a decent pint, the staffing standards have dropped considerably. Most of them have forgot there manners and very rarely say please or thank you or will just look straight through you as you wait to be served. The toilets are an absolute disgrace and I've smelled better septic tank's than the mens and the place as a whole needs cleaning up.

Return visit, October 2022: Still the good real ale pub that I first visited in the mid 2010s. Castle Rock beers from the well (the brewery is right next door), and at moderate prices. How much you'll gravitate towards Castle Rock's ales is another question, but there's always a wide variety available and they are all certainly the freshest here that they can be. Relaxed atmosphere, friendly staff. I don't remember the covered outside seating from my previous visits, and it's certainly nice to relax out there on a mild autumn evening. Certainly a nicer place to hang out than the sparsely decorated, "colder" BeerhHeadZ right AT Nottingham Station, also far less expensive.

I had my 30th birthday party in the venue the pub offers to rent out. It was amazing! Plenty of space, chairs, tables, etc. The industrial vibe of the place fit right in with the theme - Funeral For My Youth. We even had our own smoking area which seemed to be one of the most popular places of the night! Nicky and Jesse sorted everything out for us and showed where’s what and what can be used by the guests super promptly. The private bar didn’t disappoint and it had everything we needed. If my guests couldn’t find something, they always had it at the main bar. The location (right outside the Nottingham train station) was great and everyone found it very easily. Many thanks to all the staff! They truly made my 30th an event to remember for a very long time! 🖤

My team recently attending the Vat and Fiddle for a work team building away day and we booked the tier 2 package which included a brewery tour, two half pints, and opportunity to pour our own pints, and included lunch also. We found this to be extremely good value for money, the staff were all absolutely amazing, they were so accommodating for all of our requests (being incredibly flexible for dates and times which is really appreciated), and all the staff on the day were incredible lovely and professional. For 13 food orders, everything was delicious and quick to be served (serving staff were amazing), the menu in general is very flexible as we had a number of vegetarians/vegans and numerous allergies and we found the menu offered to be very accommodating for all of these. Its not often there are that many veggie/vegan options! The food was home cooked and delicious. The tour was very interesting and it was amazing to hear the history of the Castle Rock Brewery and to learn how they develop their beers/ales. The staff/food/atmosphere/tour made the day for us and we had hours of fun. Thanks again to the amazing staff at the Vat and Fiddle - I will definitely be returning for food again and would recommend this pub to others in the future.

The Vat And Fiddle Pub is an absolutely fantastic pub I always look forward to visiting whenever I'm in Nottingham, a tap room for the Castle Rock Brewery which is directly behind this pub,its just one wonderful pub. I love the look of this pub,as traditional as it gets, wonderful pubby decor and furnishings, a solid wood serving bar dominates the main room, tv's to enjoy the sport, plenty of seating options spread throughout this pub both inside and outside, this is were we chose to sit on a roasting hot Wednesday evening. I had a study of their beer range at the bar ,in the end we both opted to have Castle Rock Brewery session ipa, served in pristine condition, I took these ipa's outside were my twinny and I plotted out the night ahead while sipping our ipa's. My ipa was really good, a crisp, well balanced ipa, hoppy but not overhopped, on a hot evening a totally refreshing brew, it was just so good sitting outside this pub on a hot evening in such a beautiful pub. We really enjoyed our ipa's in here before we moved on and as on previous visits to The Vat And Fiddle Pub we had a great time. The Vat And Fiddle Pub is easy to locate along Queens Bridge Road ,a three minute walk from Nottingham Railway Station. Opening hours are; Monday to Sunday, Open from Midday. A wonderful pub, most definitely well worth checking out if you're in the area.

The Vat&Fiddle is a superb pub that offer's a fine range of Castle Rock brewery beers and was one of the best pubs we visited in Nottingham. Housed in a superb 1930s art-deco style building with superb outside seating. The inside is brilliant with lots of good seating options and throughout the pubs interior many interesting features which relate to Castle Rock brewery. We visited here in the afternoon and it was a very warm day and the outside seating area was fairly full but we managed to get a table. When here we ordered a few Castle Rock brewery Session IPA a superb beer which was perfectly served and well priced for a pub of this quality. The Vat&Fiddle is well worth a visit and is so easy to find from Traffic street bus stop it's a couple of minutes walk to Queensbridge road. (This is my first review of the Vat&Fiddle). Vat y Fiddle está bien nombrado. . . . . . el FIDDLE es el más apropiado. . . . . . nos sentimos estafados. . . . . . . . I decided to visit this pub as I've heard a lot of good things about it, although I'm from Nottingham I've never had the time to visit. So a week off work I decided to go for a look round and a bit of lunch in the nice sunny weather. I can honestly say it was a good choice and will be going again! On arriving at the pub you can see part of the brewery which looks quite interesting, when I walked in I was greeted by a friendly member of staff behind the bar, as I'm not really familiar with the real ales advised me on what I should try and gave me a taste of a couple of beers so I made the right choice. The pub itself was very clean and tidy and the excellent staff looked busy keeping the public areas nice and presentable. I decided to eat as I noticed another couple eating and the food looked really nice. I went for a homemade curry and I wasn't disappointed, I ordered at the bar and my food arrived quickly and was delivered by another member of staff who was very welcoming and friendly. I will be going again soon for a nice lunch with friends. All in all what a great place to visit, great selection of drinks even if you don't like the real ales, fantastic food all homemade! But I think the staff make this place very appealing, they are friendly, welcoming and efficient, nothing too much trouble. Thanks again and I look forward to my next visit.

Some luxury furnishings could make it more of a gastro-pub. I still would recommend it though.

Popped in for lunch before the ODI at Trent Bridge. What a selection of real ales - too many to list . The food was also really tasty and good size portions - chip butties, steak & Stilton sandwiches, nachos. Would definitely visit again.

Already a favourite, we returned on a quiet period. Great welcome, excellent beers and even asked if we had a Camra card.

The Vat and Fiddle public house, serving both as an old fashioned pub and a fast food restaurant, under the flanks of Nottingham Station is hugely popular. It is completely not to my taste, although serving old favourites of mine...but served here, I personally found everything hugely greasy and overlooked. I wish I loved this place, but I don't. Sorry.

Five of us travelled from Exeter/Bristol to watch our football team play at Notts. Co. whose ground is only about 15 minutes walk from here. Our pre journey research showed that this pub was in a good location, not being far from the station. As we all like real ale this place was a 'must go'.We were not disappointed, plenty of beers available, about 8/9, with a chalkboard showing the strengths and prices. Most were around £3.00 or less and all that we tried were very tasty. The 'pub grub' was very good value and plenty on your plate. Ham, eggs and chips at £6.50 and various baguettes with chips and salad garnish were only £5.95, these were popular.Best of all was that there were plenty of staff, who were knowledgeable, helpful and friendly. We enjoyed it so much we went back there after the game, which we won 4-1 and before our train home. It's just a pity there aren't many places like this in the rest of the country. Hopefully, we can visit again next football season.

The pub had a great selection of real ales and stouts, a proper local with no fruit machines or intrusive music or TV, perfect for talking with friends.

I visited the vat and fiddle in Nottingham last night. Brilliant pub. 200 yards from the train station. A castle rock pub. The brewery is just behind the premises. Plenty guest beers. Good, reasonably priced food and friendly staff. Well worth a visit.

Called in here for Sunday lunch after a walk. It's the brewery tap for Castle Rock - my favourite beer - so as expected there was a wide range of their beers. The pub is a traditional city pub with no obvious concessions to modern trends, and all the better for it. It's only a minute's walk from Nottingham railway station. Our lunch was fine - a standard roast beef dinner and blackberry and apple crumble - total cost £8.95.

It's a pity you can't give this pub 6 out of 6. Castle Rock brewery is a real ale godsend. Fantastic beer range, with wonderful staff and even a visitors centre a joining the pub. Both the Vat and Fiddle pub and Castle Rock brewery (next door) is everything you could want if you are a real ale lover. Why oh why would you drink larger?? (NB).

The Vat & Fiddle (no, it's not a typo) is a real ale pub owned by Castle Rock Brewery, just a 3-minute walk from Nottingham Station. It's not fancy, it's not glitzy - it's a waterhole, but a good one of its kind, with plenty of well-kept real ales on tap (not just by Castle Rock). The decor is nothing to rave about, but it's not shabby either. Some patrons may strike you as a bit shifty, especially in the late evening, but those "characters" normally won't bother you but stick to their own kind. Which sounds incredibly arrogant, I know. Anyway, the area itself is hardly the most glamorous in Nottingham, generally one of the prettier medium-sized cities in the Midlands.I have visited this pub several times in the past year and a half, usually because there was enough time for a pint (or two) before the last train to Derby or Beeston was due. On each of these occasions the pub was about half-full.Service is friendly and knowledgeable. A good boozer for a last pint in the evening. I guess the locals think that, too.

A real ale pub attached to the Castle Rock Brewery. I did not eat on this occasion but did sample some of the excellent ales on offer, I'll be back.

Arriving in Nottingham by train on a wet and miserable Bank Holiday Monday, we sensibly took ourselves straight to the Vat and Fiddle. We knew the beer would be wonderful, we'd get a friendly welcome and comfort food to warm our cockles.I had the first dish of Bangers and Mash of our trip and it really hit the spot - the mash was simply superb. Husband had gammon egg and chips (Plus some of my sausage and gravy) and was more than happy with his choice (and mine ..).

Visited Saturday evening with a small group of friends. On the edge of the Meadows and just across from the railway station, this is the HQ of the Castle Rock Brewery so a great range of real ales is always on offer. Food is fairly standard pub grub but was well prepared and plentiful. Wasn't too busy but I'm guessing it could be, especially pre football or cricket.

I often drop in on my way to or from town. It's located very close to the railway station and city centre. Food is excellent, recently new menu with the general pub food but also for people like me with a bit more adventurous taste. Price is cheap to medium rated I'd say but very good value for money. I don't have a dog myself but friends and other people can bring their dog as long as they're kept under control. Yet to explore is the brewery and Robin Hood experience.Oh yes and not to forget... with it being a brewery they have a great selection of beers, ales and ciders, bottled as well as draught. I believe there is a shop as well.

My beautiful, great , great niece, was Babtised, along with her mum, they are Keira Maureen and her mum Julieanne on the 28th June and the buffet was held at the Vat and Fiddle, it was a wonderful afternoon with superb food, some of which My great niece, Julieanne, prepared. What was prepared from the incredible chef, including prawn maho sandwiches, samosas and dips, I was starving so tucked in. The staff were a delight, the atmosphere was wonderful, Parking could be a problem, but we left our cars at the church, 5 mins walk away. I can highly recommend this venue in the Meadows, two minutes walk from the Train Station, close by to a multi Storie car park for £3 per day, well worth a visit to Nottingham. They also serve freshly made food every day. Come to the Nottingham Shopping Center, which includes the Victoria Shopping Center, leave your car for £3 a day and enjoy our City and its hospitality. My great, great niece was babtised yesterday and her buffet was held at the Vat & Fiddle, the food was wonderful as was the atmosphere, the staff were very friendly, I felt very much at ease there. My great, great niece is Keira Maureen and her mum is my Great niece, Julieanne, they were babtised together so it was a very special day. I will most certainly visit the Vat & Fiddle again, I may even consider having my 70 birthday there as most of my family live locally, whereas i now live in Derbyshire.

Stopped in for a pint on our way into town. It was quite busy but service was fast and friendly, with a great atmosphere. Primarily a real ale pub, they had a wide range. Also a good choice of lagers and ciders for non ale fans. A quirky pub, from the nut munching Parrot to the gift shop/visitors centre and take away beer cartons! Worth a visit if you're in the area.

Been a few times to this out let Coffee always been ok . Unfortunately.the toilets are bad. Obviously not checked or cleaned regularly it appears ? However .. it's apparent to me, the reason the toilets have got dirty. ...so many people now using them ,due to our council , changing ..0.50p card only at the , greyhound toilets around the corner. ..many people are not visiting Costa , refreshments then the code for toilets, they just wait outside untill someone vacate the said toilets and grab the door and enter......yes they should be checked and cleaned more. ...but the council has made this situation even worse in my opinion..!

Ah, so much has changed! [Seasonal update: the BEST decorated Hallowe'en pub in Nottingham, and it looks like Christmas is gonna be another absolute banger.] The new boys in charge have had the place restored and properly cleaned up. Lovely retention of period features and the inclusion of screens is done tastefully. New toilets are spotless. There's a really welcoming atmosphere that leaves you wanting to keep coming. The crowd are mainly local, which is great for a city centre boozer. Afternoons and weeknights are never rowdy, and there's a lounge where you can summon the charming staff to your table by pressing a subtle button in the wall. An eccentric Austrian Empire mantel clock chimes the hours, the resident pooch (Tia - as in Maria) will inspect your bags, and the prices are pretty good for town. Overtly LGBTQ+ friendly, the Peacock is back as a part of Nottingham after a difficult few years pre-Lockdown. Definitely a place to call your own.
