We came here on Halloween night and the bar was so busy but Billy still made jokes with us and made the experience even better

It was halloween i down stairs in what i can only say is a dugen or cellar oneucaly female was so rude because i was qweing by a bar hatch she stood there mouthing off at me then a member of male staff who was dressed like wheres a wally he then said move as a manager for mitcheals and butlers who r a massive copanys i was so annoyed how they treated me ive been to this pub 2 and its my last the staff r so rude ir ruined my nite so went to the tap and tumble in the end the staff r rude

I got my ID taken which was very much real. The doorman Uv’d my ID then my friends and both were identical, yet I was turned away and my family and friends were not? Also taking pictures of me aswell, I’m not sure what’s the need to take pictures of me. Really not happy to be honest. First time going here to.

Been here many times and it's easily the best pub. The atmosphere is insane, music is always 10/10 and so is the service. Tanya was an amazing bartender and recommended the best drinks as well as being super friendly. Will be coming back asap!

Came in for food with my partner and mate before seeing lacuna coil. I was the peanut allergy who had the katsu chicken, my other half had the cheese and bacon burger with extra chicken burger and a side of waffle fries while my mate had the blue cheese burger. Didn't catch the bar man's name, but he was absolutely lovely and brilliant, super helpful going over my allergy and had a good laugh with. Food was amazing as always, wish I had taken photos but we were starving when we arrived so scoffed into our dinners before going to the concert. 10/10 recommend to those who want good food, and has a love for the spooky and alternative 🤘

Lovely place, kind staff, amazing inside, good food, creative and tasty drinks and much more. Also has a built in game for when youre drunk and need the bathroom. Only down side is the lock on the accessable bathroom wouldnt work last time i tried it. Im both neurodivergent and phisicaly dissabled and the staf were amazing about helping with things and just all around being amazing people.

Shit cocktails but it's one of a kind in terms of atmosphere.

The music is very much forbrock fans, hard and soft with some pop/rock like Avril Lavigne. We didn't eat last night, but I have eaten there multiple times with a friend or family member and the food is tasty and inexpensive. The staff are friendly. The toilets are okay with soap, toilet paper and most doors have locks. Would recommend.

Love coming in here with my girlfriend every chance we get. Great music, great atmosphere. Service is brilliant, and the cocktails are amazing, especially the envy. I haven't rated the food only because I haven't tried it but I was in on Friday and it smells amazing. Will be back again very soon for food and more cocktails.

There never seems to be quite enough bar staff on for the size of the place, but I can't blame them for the wait, they do a good job serving as quick as they can. The gothic decor, alternative music, and matching clientele feels like home to me!

We only had a few pints because the music was too loud and we had to leave. The atmosphere is very successful, like a horror movie. It's fine to have a nice time if you don't mind loud music. The bathrooms are hidden behind a wall that simulates a bookstore on the ground floor, in case you can't find them!

Amazing atmosphere walked in Billy who works here, he is a great character super friendly and poured the perfect pint. definitely try this pub out guys makes sure you try to find the toilets....!

The toilets were awful, I'm a farmers son with a cast iron constitution but the gents were horrendously... ammonia chemical peel in lav. Disgusting tbf.

We went to eat at noon. Everything was very correct and was delicious. The atmosphere of the place is very cool, dark style. At night we went for a drink and both the ciders and the beers were very good. There was a DJ playing rock/metal music. The atmosphere was great.

Any time I visit a new city, I look for quirky and funny names of bars. This popped up on Google Maps and I have got to say, this is an amazing place. It's gothic theme, the aptly named cocktails only just skirt the authenticity of the place. The downstairs area is brilliant. Hint****Good luck finding the toilets.*****

Didn't have food so can't comment, but the atmosphere and the drinks are great, not to mention the music! The DJ accepted my music requests, top lad!

If you like obscure, rock, metal and everything along those lines, you'll like this. We spontaneously took a look. The pub is spread over two floors. The waiters were all really nice, the security also kept an eye on what was happening, inside and outside. The journey from Germany was worth it for that :D

I was in Nottingham and decided to trust Google to recommend a rock bar. For once it was right, really friendly staff and a jukebox with with good old school classics. Would definitely recommend

Just popped in for a quick drink. From Liverpool and 1st time in Nottingham. Amazing atmosphere and lovely staff. Me and the missus loved it. Can't imagine dealing with the bookcase to get to the loo when I've had a few though🤣

This is a really cool place to hang out. Food was delicious and the staff are really friendly and kind. Ryan who served me made me feel very welcome. It’s a really nice place for the alternative crowd. I will definitely be coming back.

Accused of having a fake ID?? When it's very much real? And government recognised? Very strange experience and not friendly at all.

Staff refused entry due to the ID of my friend, accusing her of having fake ID. It was in fact legitimate ID with multiple forms of proof of legitimacy. ID was NUS card (Totum), government recognised ID, been used and accepted nationally. Fairly unreasonable / rude manager. We are from Manchester and visited Nottingham with one of the main purposes being to visit here, slightly soured the experience.

Popped in here for few pints yesterday. Haven't been in here for a few years. Just a classic pub playing some proper music. Great service. Great decor. I forgot all about thr bookcase being the entrance to the toilet. Lol. All in all, good place for a beer. I didn't eat so can't say on that.

Amazing pub, the best in Notts, lively and caters for all sorts especially the alternative crowd. Wide selection of drinks, the Lilleys cider is amazing and they even have a real ale on occasionally too!

Food was banging. I had a tikka curry and a pitcher to myself (Abstinence is AMAZING), and my Wife had a Bacon cheeseburger and a pitcher to herself. All our meals and drinks came out not even 15 minutes after ordering. The price for both of us was £40 which for the drink and food portion+ taste is worth the price. Atmosphere is great too, we came around 5.30pm and there was only 5 other people there. Service is great too- staff are friendly & polite and work really quick. The musix choice is really nice too.

I went here on a Friday night and I loved the dark, gothic, atmosphere. A great place for any metalhead. The clientele were vibey, cool, and fashionable. They played some of my fave metal classics during my quick visit. SOAD, Deftones, RATM and others. Atmosphere would have gotten a five but it was really hot and stuffy inside without many people. Every bar we went to this night was really hot though. When I went to cool down outside, it was like I was at any other bar. The outside furniture was really generic compared to the cool ones inside. Service would have got a five but they charged me a service and tipping fee without asking me. I would have bought more pints, tipped and stayed longer if I was asked first. I don't know if it was accidental though. Otherwise it was still really cool and I can't wait to come back and have a few drinks, maybe try the food. It's a cute little place with a cool, alternative vibe. 10/10 would recommend and come back.

Great place for alternative tastes . Great music, unusual decor ( again great) . I visited a long time ago as not local , was relieved to see it is still there . Had lunch , picked some tunes , walked through bookcase for the ladies room .. then off we went for concert . Highly recommended .

Always love coming here! The staff are all so lovely and the music is always banging. Kez in particular always goes out of his way to make sure we have a good time.

Been coming to here for years, for social events and just casual because it's a nice comfort spot. Even done my dissertation because the environment makes me comfortable and the food is good. Especially Katsu. Ryan and Billy on the bar always super helpful, especially during the furmeets when I've attended. All the staff here are lovely, I don't remember the names of them all but always brilliant. Always super accommodating!

Has had some investment and it shows. Much nicer, slightly brighter and cleaner than before! Very nice to go for good drinks, good food and great atmosphere. Highly recommended if you like that gothic theme and some alternative music! -- What a great Saturday we just had. Always feel welcome and Billy especially was awesome. This is why I just keep coking back here.

Disgusting experience. My friends kept getting harassed by someone in the pub (not a staff member, a customer) and the staff did absolutely nothing to stop it. They also lied to them that they had kicked him out, but they had in fact not done so. Don't get how it benefits them to keep around harassers, very disappointing!

Absolutely adore this place, but have to mark it down, as I was on my own, and as I was using the toilet, a staff member took my drink away, but didn't touch my stuff. I mentioned it to bar staff and they said there's nothing they could do. I had a 3/4 of a drink left

I could live there . The surroundings are fabulous , staff very courteous and kind . Food was out of this world, highly recommend you visit , nothing was too much trouble.

I’ve been here before today, and any time I’ve visited I’ve had the best experiences. Today, however, I decided to write this review to highlight just how good it’s been. I decided to order the Small Plates, along with one of their specialty drink (I ordered Humility, would 10/10 recommend), and the food was DELICIOUS. It’s so good, the portion sizes are perfect for that ‘picky bits’ feel, and the overall experience was wonderful. My server, Eli, was brilliant, ensuring my time there was satisfactory and that I enjoyed the food and drink. I’d recommend this place to anyone. It’s a safe-haven for goth/alt people and i LOVE it there!

Went in at 4.30 on Saturday, was busy but just managed to get a seat. Took a long time to get served because it was busy, so used the app after and got served very quickly. Great atmosphere and music as usual, brilliant staff

Love the decor of this place - it is my go to bar before a gig at the arena as it is for many other people too. Quiet when I've visited in day time but can get quite busy in the evening, though either is fine by me. Seven deadly sins and virtues cocktails -amazing and my fave is Envy. Food - we ordered the 7 small plates deal between us that I fully recommend. Staff seem to enjoy working here and always enthusiastic in my experience. Watch out for the creepy sound of a demon they play in the toilets and the screaming sounds, was not expecting that haha! Only thing I was disappointed with on the latest visit was the app they are offering for customers to order food from the table - it's called My Pub app and they need to get rid of it because no matter how many different wi-fi's or internet connections I used, it would not take my order through the checkout. The signal can be bad in this venue so I even tried ordering outside and still unsuccessful. I ended up paying at the bar then later found the app had taken payment 4 times - I'm hoping to get will bounce back in a few days but not likely judging by reviews. Don't bother using the app just order from the bar.

Always loved this place, but recently the food service and price is despicable!!! Avoid!

One of our friends was asked to leave after failing to produce ID (as it was stolen the previous week along with his bank cards). He is 32 and clearly looks it, however completely understand this. However the member of staff who went about this was really unnecessarily rude and aggressive. Also claimed we tried to sneak him drinks and that was the reason why we were all kicked out and this simply was not true and would not even given us a reason why we were being kicked out other then the fact we were with our friend who had no ID. One of our friends was kicked out before he even came in and wasn’t given any reason at all for this. Was really looking forward to coming here but the staff were so unnecessarily rude and frankly unwelcoming.

Walked in for an enjoy seven heavenly virtues, one of my all time favourites. Unfortunately as a 32 year old I failed to produce ID. (Stolen a week previously) As such the sale of alcohol to my person was not possible. The disappointing part was that I was kicked out of the building shortly afterwards, the reason given was that the license stipulates this. Having worked in the trade I find this to be false and fuelled by discretion instead. Waiting for my group without a drink was not permissible - despite the fact that 16 year olds are welcome to come and eat at the time in question. To make matters worse, my entire group of 12 friends were kicked out to reinforce the point who are all 32+ One of the best bars playing metal in the city, shame about the lack of understanding and rudeness. In summary, forego the signature virtues and go to the Sal or the Vat instead
