We popped into The Navigation for lunch while in Nottingham on our narrowboat. We were made welcome on arrival (with our two dogs) and we thought the pub was spacious with plenty of room for them to lie down. There was a fabulous choice of well kept ales on offer and we really enjoyed our lunches for £6 each which we thought was a bargain. I had fish, chips and mushy peas and my husband had pork and leek sausages with egg and chips. How lovely to have home cooked chips, it’s rare to find them when eating out nowadays. The food and ales were excellent, the staff were welcoming and friendly and we will definitely visit The Navigation again.

We had a fabulous afternoon here, the courtyard at the back is a real suntrap - intimate and really nicely decked out. The Sunday roast was verging on the best I've had out, I don't usually trust gravy or roast potatoes unless they're homemade but this dinner was smashing on every level. It's years since I've been to this pub, wow, what a transformation. Visited tonight to try the chippy tea as advertised. Great vaulue for money and very tasty. My only gripe was that the chips were far too overcooked and crispy to the point there was very little potato left inside...I'm a big fan of a crispy chip but these were far too crispy. On to desert....homemade apple crumble which I chose as I only like it homemade. Very very disappointed with it, apple was non existent, the fruit was just a red goo and the topping was a dry mix of what seemed to be porridge oats mixed with flour. I'd 100% go back as the atmosphere is lovely, all the staff are extremely helpful, attentive and very friendly, oh and the drinks are great too. Check out a basic crumble mix and you won't disappoint 😀

Ah, so much has changed! [Seasonal update: the BEST decorated Hallowe'en pub in Nottingham, and it looks like Christmas is gonna be another absolute banger.] The new boys in charge have had the place restored and properly cleaned up. Lovely retention of period features and the inclusion of screens is done tastefully. New toilets are spotless. There's a really welcoming atmosphere that leaves you wanting to keep coming. The crowd are mainly local, which is great for a city centre boozer. Afternoons and weeknights are never rowdy, and there's a lounge where you can summon the charming staff to your table by pressing a subtle button in the wall. An eccentric Austrian Empire mantel clock chimes the hours, the resident pooch (Tia - as in Maria) will inspect your bags, and the prices are pretty good for town. Overtly LGBTQ+ friendly, the Peacock is back as a part of Nottingham after a difficult few years pre-Lockdown. Definitely a place to call your own.

Parked in customer parking, board clearly mentioned that. Was half way out of my car and the owner (?) lady came out yelling, claiming that I couldn’t park my car there. There were several other cars parked there. Told me that she could call the “police” on us and everyone else parked there if she wanted (I hadn’t even said a word to her yet) and that I should park elsewhere. When I mentioned that I wanted to order food and ask what time the shop was closing down, I was told to shut up. Two other white families came and parked a minute after this altercation, she said nothing to them. I’m a POC. So is she? Problematic. Internalised racism, I guess. Her breath stank too when she was all up in my face. Like, really bad. Would not recommend, unless you can somehow make it inside without her crazy self demanding you leave there.
