Valletta in Portsmouth

Amazing meal, decided to give them ago even after reading some negative reviews. Didn't recognise any of the issues reported. Service was great. I sat with a view of the kitchen and watched our meals being made. Having a degree in Hotel, Catering I was impressed with all aspects of our meal and will definitely be returning - though due to portion sizes there may be a slight delay.

Wonderful to have some great restaurants in Drayton. We have had some sunday roasts in Valletta, they serve top quality food cooked and presented to perfection. The staff are friendly and attentive and the venue is top notch with a great atmosphere. We are looking forward to our next visit.

Taking advantage of a 2-for-1 deal on mains we booked a table on Saturday. On arrival, the restaurant was quite empty but that just meant we could choose our table! Further tables joined as the evening progressed but the music was at the perfect volume so the atmosphere was great. We enjoyed delicious starters (cheesy mushrooms and scallops) and equally tasty mains (lamb rump and salmon). My husband really enjoyed the chocolate brownie to finish. All food was hot, fresh and really well cooked/presented. We enjoyed our mojitos (virgin/alcoholic). Service was friendly and welcoming. We really enjoyed our meal - it cost around £90 which was fair. We would definitely book again particularly if we see an offer. I'd like to try the roast dinner next! Thank you for a lovely evening.

We saw a post on FB saying cocktails, pizza and pasta were 241 on the cocktails and £10 pizza and pasta all day Thursdays. We were told that no, it stopped at 5pm. We showed the ad which had been posted 3 hours previously. They called the owner who wouldn't honour it. Had 2 cocktails.. .not great. Smallest glass of margarita I've ever seen and pink colada was orange! There was no one else in there....hardly surprising. Went for a nearby Thai and the place was heaving. Food and service wonderful. Valetta needs to up their game!

We had changed a booking from another restaurant , because the menu had been limited, but had looked up the Valletta menu online, and this looked more promising. When arriving at the mostly empty restaurant however, the menu had been changed and meals that we had planned on having, wasn’t available. The kitchen CBA to make one of the starters that we ordered. I was told it would be honoured for free at a later date……. I ordered a number of starters as there wasn’t a main meal on the menu that appealed to me, seafood options are now very limited. The kitchen decided to plate it all up on one plate, and substitute the scallop starter I had ordered, that came with a creamy sauce, salad and bread, for two sad little scallops. It was the most disappointing plate of food I have ever seen!! The £5 asparagus was tiny and disappointing, the bruschetta was a single slice of bread!! The experience was overall mediocre, the restaurant was empty when we left and none of us felt like we had a decent meal, especially considering how expensive the food was. Disappointed!

We saw the 'bottomless brunch' evening advertised, so gave it a go and were not disappointed. The meals (and desserts) were absolutely delicious. The service was brilliant. We can't wait to visit again!

We had another wonderful roast dinner as a takeaway yesterday. The staff were amazing and the food totally delicious. Would recommend to anyone. Will be going back soon.

Lovely food and perfect dining experience. We visited for Valentine’s Day and were made to feel special. Special mention to the front of house man with the glasses! You were a highlight with your witty banter :) Will definitely return! George and the team are a credit to Drayton!

Very nice Mediterranean Restaurant with expert chefs and lovely efficient waiting staff. Food was delicious, a good variety of vegetables to go with the Sunday Roast. Without having to ask extra gravy and relevant sauces for each meat were delivered to the table. I can see why this is a popular Sunday venue their Roasts are the best I have seen in a long while.

We dined here with another couple and we all agreed that the food and service was absolutely amazing. In fact none of us could think of any place better. We tried the taster menu and every dish was simply superb. We will definitely be returning. A big thumbs up to Ben and the waitresses, they were brilliant.

Booked a table for 2. The host let us sit were we wanted away from the door. Ordered what we wanted, served in good time as it was quiet. Talked to chef lovely man. Our waiter looked after our needs. We had a laugh. Food was alright as I was enjoying the evening. We walked there and back. Got to know the name of the lady working with the chef. Happy memories, thank you for a lovely evening.

I had wanted to eat here for a while but was put off by the reviews. I should have listened. I couldn't find the scallop in my coquilles st jacques and was told it's mixed in the the salmon and prawns, unfortunately there was no scallop but the waitress told me that's how they plate it? But would tell the chef. As he cooked it a bit pointless. My medium rare steak was "plated" well done, cut across the middle (see photo for their interpretation of medium rare). My mum asked for a bit of bread to soak up the sauce for her dish. I was charged £3 for the sauce that's included with my dish and £5 for the bread. So, as much as I wanted to support a local restaurant, I will not return.

My wife and I went to this restaurant following a letter sent by the owner to residence in the surrounding area in the summer. Like many, we don’t normally give much reading time to ‘junk mail’ but we appreciated the personal touch, warmth and invitation and decided to make a visit at some point. We made reservations for dinner on the 22nd December (2023), by email and this was promptly confirmed. The restaurant was quieter than we expected, but the ambiance was festive and we were warmly received and seated. We were a little surprised that 3 main dishes were no longer on the menu and contemplated not staying (another group did leave because of this) but decided to choose from the remaining, limited menu. We are so glad we did..all 3 courses were delicious, flavourful..so pleasing to the eye and palate…just mouth wateringly amazing! We had a high-quality, 1st class table and dining experience, and look forward to returning to try the other dishes not available :)

We have been to this restaurant a good few times now, we have enjoyed it every single time , the roasts are just out of this world, the seafood platter was amazing full of fresh seafood lots to choose from and flavour was lovely, We have never had any issues visiting this restaurant, Sadly some people get happiness out of trying to destroy someone’s hard work and dedication, I would urge people to look past the negative fake reviews that are being left, I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone who would like a nice meal out, the staff are friendly and helpful and the chefs will do their best to accommodate any requests, I also like supporting a local independent business, Keep up the good work guys and see you soon

The food is delicious. Definitely recommend. We had pork roulade and christmas turkey roast plus tofee and christmas pudding. The custard was amazing. Left stuffed and happy. That definitely wasn't my last time visiting.

I've just had the best ChateauBrand. It was amazing. Highly recommend this place.

Went last night for seafood platter offer but certainly was not the same as the picture, very mislead, no olives, no cockles, no big mussels, no crabsticks, no langoustines, no crayfish tails, etc, shown one thing served another, and if the usual full price is £170 for 2 people it's hugely overpriced, not worth the £80 for 2 in my opinion !!!! Relentless a much better option for a good seafood platter !!

First and last time here. Last night of seafood platter. Mussels were dead and not open, calamari was so dry and over cooked we couldn't eat it. Staff were lovely. Everything over priced

We have been often because the food is outstanding and service good. In winter they need to address the heating because when the door opens the cold can be really uncomfortable for diners. Really require a double door system at the least. But it has not deterred us from returning many times because everything else is excellent.

We went for the seafood sharing experience, the food was nice but it wasn't "wow" for how much it cost, very expensive for what it was.. 4 people £220 and only bought 3 drinks as we had a complimentary cocktail

Booked to go here but left before we even ordered. Walked in to find a cheap looking dirty cafe like place. Carpet very cheap and dirty, old chairs covered with nasty cheap stretchy covers and kitchen visible in a disgraceful state. We stood around for a long while waiting to be seated because couple in front had an issue with their booking. Eventually a scruff man pointed over to a table we could sit at rather than show us to it. When we sat down I noticed one of my forks was dirty, not just the dishwasher had not done it’s job properly but dirty used by someone previously! My son didn’t have a full set of cutlery but the one fork he had was also dirty. The table cloth was upside down with threads showing as I guess they’d turned it over after it was dirty from previous customers. The whole thing was off putting so we left. I’m response to reply… a good restaurant wouldn’t argue a bad review, they would learn from it. I see many of your previous bad reviews you write fake! A good restaurant would take responsibility for a customer finding dirty items, Instead you find it unlikely the cutlery was dirty! My fork looked used, not just mistakenly dirty. My sons fork looked like an error with washing up, no problems. However, It’s proven that hand washing does not get bacteria off anywhere near as well as dishwashing therefore another good reason not to visit your establishment.

Came with a group of friends yesterday for the roast dinner and all I can say is WOW! Very nice and the veggies were our favourite and I’d love to know the sauce you put on them!😂 I will be back.

Good food, but expensive for what it was. We all had the fillet steak which was cut up, hidden by the veg and seemed quite small. The pear crumble was "deconstructed" and also very small. The chocolate dome was delicious and big enough to share but was really sweet. Given 2 of the 4 of us were drinking tap water, over £50 a head seems excessive.

We decided to book having seen an online promotion for a £5pp roast dinner. The only stipulation was that you had to purchase either a starter or a dessert also. Not a problem! We had no idea what to expect and we had booked a last sitting however, we could not fault a thing. Upon arrival we were met by a friendly young lady who showed us to our table and handed us a menu. The menu showed all of the courses available along with details of possible upgrades should you wish I.e. a supplement if you would like beef or, an additional cost for cauliflower cheese (which I highly recommend by the way!! 1 dish will serve x2 people). Our drinks order was taken and as our drinks were served, the lady took our food order. My O/H had the bruschetta starter and I had the pâtè & bread. My O/H ordered the pork roast and I had the beef 😋 We didn’t wait too long for our food to be served. Equally, it wasn’t thrown at us as though it was pre~prepared or anything, it was the perfect timing. As was the roast dinner being served. Our starter were lovely! Then it was time for our mains…….. The beef was succulent, the roast potatoes were perfect and the vegetables were cooked to perfection and very flavoursome! My O/H thoroughly enjoyed his pork roast and I even managed to sneak a bit of his crackling 😂 I had initially thought I would be able to squeeze in a dessert but we were absolutely stuffed by the time we had eaten all of that so sadly, we gave that a miss this time. The ambience of the restaurant was relaxing and we shall certainly be visiting again! The roast dinner was SO good that I would even pay full price for one in future. If I could give more stars I would. Booked out the restaurant for a private event which was my 30th birthday, not only was it so reasonably priced but the food was so incredible and the staff were just amazing. The atmosphere was great and the team went above and beyond. Thank you so much for making my birthday so special, I would definitely revisit and recommend!

First time at Valletta last night and we such a lovely experience! Staff were so lovely, really cosy environment and food was delicious! Have read some reviews on here about pasta portions being small but we did not find this at all! We only felt the need to have one course as our main was so delicious and filling! The staff were really attentive and we found it very reasonably priced. Loved so much that we are booking to come back for a sunday roast soon!

Just had a sunday roast after my wife saw a really good review on facebook, and we thought why not. Well it was gorgeous. Food was top notch, loved the ambience, and the staff were just lovely. The dessert was something else. Everyone else had pear crumble, which to be fair I was tempted with, but instead went for the chocolate dome. Dear Lord, if this is paradise, I'm in. Dont think about it, just order it.

Friendly staff, tasty cocktail and that it… Heard a lot, left very hungry and disappointed. Carbonara and arrabiatta size was a joke, seafood penne didn’t have any prawns menu says otherwise, too spice I was literally crying. Croutons in Caesar salad was so stale and hard, could end up with unexpected dentist visit. Maltese beer served was out of date for 2 months, spotted after. Desserts were sickly sweet. Food overpriced and below average. We are not coming back. To reply: person who refused dessert was not the one who has smallest pastas, all of us who had pastas had a desserts. Plate come back clean because we were hungry, I gave my over spicy food to my son who was so hungry so managed to eat it. Very confusing your reply about attention, staff was friendly as I stated. My review nothing to do with attention or staff, my review about food sizes and quality. Strange that in your reply you said nothing about expired beer.

Dinner with a friend at this lovely local bistro. Delicious food , great wine at reasonable cost in lovely atmosphere . Friendly service by the lovely Vicky and Eliza . Hope they do well, a great addition to the Drayton food and drink scene .,

First time coming here today. I'm not sure why it took us so long. The food was brilliant. The staff is very polite and made us feel welcome. Will have to make another trip there again very soon. The only downside is that the chairs are too comfy, and I didn't want to leave.

Worst food I’ve had. Paid £32 for tiniest bit of steak, it was cold. Took it back and it came back microwaved.The decor was terribly unfinished to a low standard. Wouldn’t recommend

Came here the other night and I’ve got to say I’m appalled. This was meant to be a great date night but it was the complete opposite. Our food came out cold and had several hairs in our food. We could hear arguments coming from the kitchen which made the atmosphere awkward. The waitress was pouring her own alcoholic drinks behind the bar whilst on shift not to mention she looked underage. I’ve heard many mixed views about this place but I am utterly shocked on the quality of this place. Utterly shocked. Fair warning, do not eat here.

I ordered the Spaghetti Arrabbiata, portion size was a bit small and would’ve liked a bit more chilli (personal preference) but otherwise was an enjoyable dish! I liked the fact you could see the area your food was being made however was then shocked and put off at seeing the chef sit down on one of the sides where I previously witnessed food be prepared, to have a chat with a colleague… The decor inside didn’t match what I’d expect to see as a ‘wine bar’ and with their menu options/prices shown on the website. The carpet & cotton table cloths looked dirty/cheap and the paint work unfinished. Just wasn’t quite what I was expecting to walk into. We paid £3 for each soft drink, which were not advertised on the menu as either a pint/half pint. I believe they were half pints (small glasses) which I wouldn’t have paid £3 for knowingly. We were surprised how quick the food was made & served, we sat down to order just before 8pm and had finished our 2 mains and sides & were out of there just after 8:30pm! Staff were friendly

Came here for the first time after hearing about it, not overly impressed, had an email to say about a roast dinner being 5 pounds but didn't say at all only when you order a starter or pudding. Didn't even have our reservation even though we had an email to say it had been booked. Never got asked if everything was ok food wise, or if we wanted anymore drinks. Also a bit unhygienic with salt and pepper on the table in little bowls as many people touch it and some people can be dirty so that should be changed really, should have shakers. Also didn't seem to have much in the drinks department seemed to have run out of a few of them. The staff seem friendly enough and polite so no complaints against them and the food is very nice, probably to nice for the restaurant really, seemed upper class food but medeoker restaurant and not well trained staff that were serving.

This is a reasonable restaurant, nothing special. The location is on the main road through Drayton. The atmosphere was lacking on our visit, which was a Friday night. The decor was reminiscent of something from the 70's. The food was OK, albeit lacked any real flavour. The service was fine, nothing memorable either way. The prices are expensive, a bottle of wine that's £7.50 in the shop sells for £30 + a mandatory service of 10%. For the quality of food, I would not regard this as good value at >£50/head. I would, therefore, not recommend.

Not sure where to start really so I’ll start with a positive, the waitress we had serving us last night was really nice, friendly she really tried her best considering the situation she was in. There was 4 of us out for dinner really looking forward to it, as we don’t get to meet up with our close friends often.We all ordered starters, now this is when it all started to go wrong,they’d run out of one the starters which is fair enough I know that happens, then went on to order the mains, and out of 4 main meals only one person could have what they wanted as yep they’d run out of main meals as well, which isn’t good on a Saturday night!!! The food we got was really nice I cannot fault that one bit, We then went to order a sharing cheese board and guess what they didn’t have any cheese. So overall a really disappointing night and at the end a £200 bill for meals that was second best.

Stopped by for a Saturday evening dinner with friends. Greeted by friendly and helpful staff, they looked after us well throughout our evening. We were a table of 8 and had to preorder our starters and mains. I opted for the prawn starter and fillet steak main. I enjoyed both of my meals but would suggest for the price paid for the steak that it was a small serving. I asked for medium and it was overdone for me and my wife's meal, on such a concentrated portion size/price point this should have been spot on in my opinion. We had a good choice of wines to accompany our meal, us men opted for a red while the ladies chose a rosé wine. The selection available should suit most tastes. Desserts were nice too. I noted the starter and dessert portion sizes were more in line with what I'd expect so perhaps the main was lacking on this certain evening. Our meal with wine came to £155 per couple. Overall we enjoyed our evening and glad to have tried this restaurant. I wish the team all the best moving forwards.

Sadly one of the worst and most expensive meals I have had out in a long time . Staff were lovely but couldn’t compensate for the meal. Certain dishes and wine not available and only 3 tables taken on a Saturday night …. It felt as if it was running down to close permanently . My starter had 8 mussels in a bowl of sauce , the pork was dry with barely any vegetables and the dessert sickly sweet. Who pours expresso into a tiramisu and curdles the cream and marscapone, it’s not like affogato. I’m sorry but I can cook better than this at home and save myself £150 per couple and a return taxi to Drayton. Incredibly disappointed maybe it was just a bad night or chef was substituted ?

Went to a surprise Birthday get together (mine) had a great time. Service was brill and the staff were great. Not sure what happened to my birthday cake though.

Lovely food. Brilliant staff. Had 3 courses and a few drinks each. Loved all the courses, and had the cheese board to share for after.

We had the 9 course taster menu that was being trialed so that the following week following feedback the menu would be set for the new season. Our waitress was very attentive and knowledgeable, the food was delicious, well presented and we provided our feedback as asked on piece of paper as we went along. Looking forward to going back for a meal later on in the year. It will be very nice for a special occasion.

I had a lovely dinner here last night with 6 colleagues. The main courses are outstanding. The staff are friendly, courteous and professional and did just the right amount of "table hovering". Highly recommended.

Was looking forward to try this new restaurant in Drayton. I was very disappointed. The food was very overpriced, all our party agreed that the quality of the food was insufficient for the prices that they are charging. Vegetables were hard and hardly any of them, the pork belly had a ridiculous amount of fat on it, that had no attempt to be rendered down. Gravy was bland. Hairs found in the food, one hair was found which I can try to look overlook but after 2 more were found, we were put off. The management team then proceeded to say it was hairs from the pig. Which is hard to believe as they were over 10cm long. They thought 50% of that meal was adequate compensation. I have been to Malta and can say the menu had no authenticity towards Maltese food. Restraunt was cold and so poorly refurbished. Waiting staff inexperienced. We will not be returning when there are so many other great food places to eat in portsmouth at half the cost.

Only one word really - Terrible Pay £29 for steak which would only really be described as a starter, two small pieces of sweet potato and a couple of bits of asparagus- not worth the money , also had the. Seafood spaghetti, which was actually pasta tagliatelle with a piece of monk fish and two prawns !! Sorry will never return

Pre booked large table, 17 guests, food pre ordered. Staff were young and friendly. Table was split, which should of been informed of before attending. Ran out of lot of drink choice. Several/most of us were not happy with meals. Tastless and very small portions, not as described in menus. About 7 mussels for starters, Steak, omg! Thin, dry tastless, cut up, 5 bites at most, 2 asparagus, 2 tiny circles of sweet potato. Rest of meals basically the same. Did mention steak to waitress, she agreed! No one asked if food was OK. Didn't risk pudding, as nothing was worth money. Only paid because the staff were so young and seemed out of depth. A lot of money for prepared booking, such a shame! All went home very hungry.

Meal for two. We went early evening around 4:30pm and it was quiet which was nice. Food presented hot and delicious. Staff friendly. We have booked again next month for a group of us

My wife arranged a special birthday treat for me at The Valletta. We enjoyed an excellent meal which was well cooked and presented with fine customer service. Will definitely visit again during the summer months.

Very limited menu and not every choice available (monkfish) second choice (fillet steak) not available offered rump steak @ the same price . Ordered taste of the ocean the salmon was over cooked. The glass of wine I ordered not available had to have an alternative. Restaurant felt chilly Meal was very tasty

Food was incredible, service was fantastic, place was clean and tidy and well presented. There was a review below about a small poussin... well I had the poussin and couldn't finish it. Also Poussin is a small bird, literally it's entire definition but thanks for the laughs!! Love the fact that every dish came with potatoes and veg, it's so hard to find places that don't just serve chips! Half my family is Maltese and having spent pretty much just as much time in Malta as in the UK I can firmly say the food was reminiscent of being back in Malta and 100% recommend the place to anyone after some amazing quality well cooked non deep fat fried food!! Can't wait to return!

Friday 2nd December was our Christmas get together. Upon arrival everything looked very nice. The two young girl waitresses were really lovely. Unfortunately the evening did not turn out as we had planned. The first issue with the place was a hole in the front window, were one of our group was sat. We had to ask for a heater which didn’t make much difference to the draft. Then when the waiting staff went for their breaks the whole restaurant went cold because of the draft coming up from the open door. The ladies toilet door was held on by cello tape, there were holes in walls, skirting boards were not fixed properly and the overall work downstairs did not reflect the image the restaurant is trying to achieve. Onto the food , we were advised that some dishes of the menu were no longer available. One of which I was planning to order. We were not told of any other changes to any of the other dishes. Four of our table of 10 ordered Poussins. Not once were we advised that we would get a cheaper 1/2 of a small chicken instead of the described whole poussin. My husband and myself are Chefs and we know what a poussin is , I did not order 1/2 a small chicken I ordered a whole poussin. £19 worth. What I got was half a small chicken and not a Poussin. This was a cheap £4 chicken. Only after we complained were we offered a £10 voucher, a free drink or a free dessert. The owner was invited to come to speak to our table four times and ignored the requests. The whole experience put a dampener on our night. We paid up and left. On our way out the Chef/owner was looking at us from the kitchen. He had ample opportunity to come and speak to us. He was not busy. We will not be back. If I could give no stars I would.

Not what I was expecting. Let’s start with the fact that the food that we had was ok, it was hot and tasty, it was however a smaller portion so would advise having more than one course. As the food is cook from scratch 3 of the choices were unavailable. We were a table of 10 and would have been happy to pre order to avoid disappointment. The drinks were nice I had the non alcoholic cocktail which was tasty. Unfortunately for us we were sat in the window which gave for an uncomfortable environment as we were all cold, we did ask for a heater in the end to help warm us up. This seat could possibly benefit from some draft exclusion or curtains and half frosted glass as the people in our party directly next to the window did feel a little exposed (especially when a random guy drinking a can of beer stood and watched us eating) The two waitresses were pleasant and apologetic when what we ordered didn’t quite meet the description on the menu and tried to get the Chef to come and speak to us (this didn’t actually happen) My meal was removed from the total as requested it was a very sticky carbonara they did offer to cook me an “English”carbonara which I declined, we obviously had a different impression of texture here. The Manager eventually came over and tried to explain however was quite matter of fact and very un-apologetic. We were offered a voucher to come back or a drink. To be honest we were cold still a little hungry and did not feel valued as customers so we paid the bill and went to another venue in Drayton to finish our evening. The restaurant itself felt unfinished with regards to fixtures and fittings. We had to ask for drinks. At no point was there a check back once the food was delivered. From the description I was expecting a comfortable environment with delicious fresh food. I don’t like to finish on a bad note so will say the smaller tables around us seemed to be happy.

This was the first time I went. Environment is cozy with friendly staff. However, it is very pricy with limited choice of food. I chose Carbonara which cost £14 which is the same price at a restaurant in a London five star hotel I had just visited. The portion of the food was small and the Carbonara was unexpectedly cooked very badly with very dry source and not hot enough. I thought the ready made Carbonara that I bought from M&S would be much more better.

Worst meal and experience I've had in some time. Ordered the Poussin chicken. A whole bird. Albeit a small one. Four of us received half a chicken. The world's smallest chicken. I've had more meat on a chicken nugget. We had to return to Pacific for bar food to fill us up. The window seat was so cold draughty, after 30 mins we had to ask for a heater as I was going numb. The decor downstairs for a new restaurant that is so posh they won't serve fries/ chips isn't even of amateur standard. Huge disappointment.

My husband and I went for the wine tasting and tasting menu. Absolutely delicious food, each course was so beautifully presented too. Would recommend.

Visited Saturday night with family and found the food very tasty in particular the fillet steak which was 10/10 and the service was good too so will certainly be coming again soon.

Tried Valetta Saturday night and wasn’t disappointed. Really friendly staff, fantastic food and a great wine list. And when I say fantastic food, I do mean it. Really fresh, tasty, beautifully presented dishes (highly recommend the Spring chicken) at a very reasonable price considering the quality! Will definitely be going again soon and trying the 10 course tasting menu. Bravo 👏🏻

241 cocktails was a nice surprise at lunch. Ended up spending the entire afternoon there. Was really nice
