Urban Tandoor in Bristol, City of

If you want an overstimulating rave whilst you eat dinner, this is your place! The food was unbelievably average, the service was good, super friendly staff so that is 5/5. However the lights continually flashing on and off, the full blast celebratory/birthday music (so loud you can’t actually speak to anyone) feels a bit over the top when you’re just trying to eat your dinner! The tables are crammed in next to each other (we had to squeeeeze in just to get into our seats, not very accessible). We managed to see the funny side (what else can you do!) but unless you’re drunk and looking for a place to be loud and rowdy, I would not recommend! Most overrated restaurant in Bristol, they clearly care more about what they look like on tik tok than the actual food or atmosphere of their restaurant!

Good and reasonably priced food. The portions are more than sufficient and there are a lot of friendly members of staff.

Ordered the tandoori mixed grill, saag paneer, and garlic naan. The portions were generous and reasonably priced. However the lamb and prawn were unfortunately overcooked and tough. The chicken was tender. We did not enjoy the spicing of the tandoori meats. It felt like they were not marinated (as they were tough and the outside spices were not soaked in), lacked complex spices and flavors, and were unnecessary hot because they were coated with cayenne powder. The saag paneer was ok.

Fantastic experience. We came all the way from Dover for a weekend away and had to eat here after watching their videos online. The food did not disappoint at all, and the staff were great. Would definitely recommend

Bhindi, Goan Fish Curry, Garlic Naan and the most amazing Onion & Spinach Bhajiya. Had a great time after long long time. The dessert at the end was really a cherry on the top to make our Monday Blues more Glowyyy

I had gone with my hubby n friends in dis place...which I heared from many people to try dis place...n as I entered dis place I got the vibes of India the aroma which smell soooo gud wen U enter this place.....the food was perfect...good staff...good atmosphere....vil definitely recommend to my friends now n visit again.

We first time came all over from swindon to try dis place reading the reviews.....which was 💯 out of 100....when we entered the atmosphere it self comes to know how the food will be ......better than ever what we expected......tooooo good food the tandoori platter....with peshawari naan n d unbelievable sauces were sooo tasty ...my family enjoyed here eating delicious food .....perfect place to eat the staff r very friendly kind .....the resturant gives u d filling of Indian Vibes....loved it God bless you'll Guys....May you have lot of business.....definitely gonna come backxxxxx

I rarely leave reviews but felt like I should. 3 of us came for a meal at urban tandoor. Firstly I will say the food was amazing, really fresh and tasty and just great. BUT The service wasn’t great at all, we were left standing around in the foyer for about 15 mins, no one told us what was happening or when we would be seated. Once we got seated there was no real service at all, the waiting staff were obviously very busy and trying to deal with lots of things at the same time. We had no cutlery on our table, we were not given any plates for our pappadoms and no serviettes or anything like that. Every 15 mins the music went really loud and the lights all flashed and there was a song like happy birthday or congratulations played. While I understand this is all part of the fun to be honest it was pretty off putting. We came to urban tandoor because we had heard that it was great experience but we ended up leaving feeling like we had been pushed through a machine. Having said that I’ll again say how great the food was, not cheap but good value for money given the quality. Next time I think I’ll get a take away though.

Amazing food! The waiters were lovely and very good service. We were treated to a complimentary drink and dessert due to a birthday celebration. The tofu curry and garlic naan were exceptional.

Solid Indian food, good service, friendly staff. I'm not used to the butter chicken being remotely spicy though, this one was too spicy for one of our party, which was unfortunate. Madras was good though

Second time here. Food is exceptional, proper top quality. Had the Calamari starter which was light & refreshing. Followed this with the truly outstanding Lamb Shank. This was divine, absolutey top drawer. Would highly recommend & will most definitely return again....Quality

I'm giving them 3 stars for the starter, which was really amazing. I ordered the main course from the vegan menu. The dish wasn't flavourful; it said spicy, but it wasn't really, and the vegetables were not fully cooked.

After a warm greeting, we were shown to our table and given menus and our drinks order was taken. They arrived promptly and after a few minutes, our food order was taken. We were celebrating our wedding anniversary and we were very kindly given a complimentary drink before our starters arrived. The food was absolutely stunning. Presented with care and so fresh. You could taste every spice in each dish. The staff were attentive and informative. We even had a chat about how the dishes were prepared and where many of the ingredients are sourced. I seriously can’t fault our entire experience so we look forward to returning soon with friends. The whole afternoon at Urban Tandoor was flawless!!

Food and service was amazing. We did feel a little rushed but I understand it was Valentine's weekend so they were very busy.

Booked via the website messaging service and confirmed booking by the restaurant almost immediately. Was seated quickly and orders and food / drink arrivals were very prompt throughout. The food and customer service from the staff was exceptional. This is the second time I have been here and both experiences were very positive. Highly recommend this restaurant!

What a disaster of an experience. Bad table then changed even though we had booked. Rushed to order then before we even finished eating were told the next guests are here and we couldnt even have desert. Cant remember what the food was like it was to quickly over. And we were frozen sitting by a kitchen vent. So be careful they over book weekends if you want to sit down with friends and family for a nice chilled dinner.

good meal, have a couple criticisms: - most of food very good eg excellent naan but would not recommend butter chicken masala, it lacked taste - didn't get to enjoy some of pretty lights advertised as was sat in overflow seating just down street, although still fair decoration

Urban Tandoor is wonderful! We came here for our wedding anniversary, and the staff could not do enough to make our celebration feel special! We got a free cocktail and a a free dessert. The atmosphere in here is charming, the staff are so friendly and helpful, and the food is absolutely delicious. The Lamb Rogan Josh in particular was sublime! Can’t wait to come back!

Amazing. Lived up to all expectations! We have been intending to visit for a while, but don’t eat out often. I’ve also been out for meals with work next door at the Beirut Mezze, and often thought that Urban Tandoor looked great. The superb Instagram videos have certainly drawn our attention to the place, and this evening we decided to take the plunge and visit for our anniversary. The team looked after us very well. The atmosphere is great; they’ve put a lot of effort into the decor and it pays off. The food was amazing, and the team were happy to answer questions about the menu. The service was great too. We will definitely be back, and I’ll be recommending Urban Tandoor to my colleagues for our next team evening out! Thank you!

Amazing food and great service!

Bit of a victim of its own success. I've been a few times and really enjoyed it but last couple of times the poppadoms were stale and my butter chicken was overcooked this time. It was very busy and loud as well. I recommend going lunch time based on my experience, as that was the best time I visited both vibe and food wise.

Staff were welcoming and happy to talk, advise me on the menu and accommodate my immature palette. Friendly, professional and attentive. Just great. Wonderfully tasty, flavoursome food. Great atmosphere. Eye-catching decor.

Came for my birthday on the weekend - great food but exceptional service - thank you for the drink and dessert on the house - it was a lovely touch and generous. Great ambiance and atmosphere. Very kind staff and waitress on Sunday was very welcoming and nothing was ever too much. We will be back!

Met up with family in Bristol and chose UT based on reviews, we weren't disappointed. Great atmosphere even early evening, friendly welcome, very efficient and helpful service, excellent food, healthy portions, long queues waiting to get in as we left.

We booked for 16 of us as a family get together, table was booked for 6pm and we didn’t get seated until 6.20, we sat down and within 10 minutes are food was coming out we didn’t have time the popadoms we had ordered, the food was nice but we barely had time to finish our food and they where clearing the table, then at 7.30 we where told we needed to get off our table because it was booked out wasn’t given any time to finish our drinks we had, we where told to finish them in the bar area where there was nowhere to sit or stand because there was other parties waiting to be seated. Was very disappointed with the service when I spoke to a manager he wasn’t interested. Can’t say we will be returning.

Incredible service, the food was unbelievably good and the atmosphere out of this world. The team went above and beyond with their amazing service and Jessica was phenomenal with her violin. Apparently Carol Vonderman was there but I don’t know who that is. Overall, 10/10 would come back again asap!!!

The curry here was the best curry I’ve ever had! It was called Palak Kofta. Spinach, paneer and onion dumplings in a creamy tomato, cashew and kasoori sauce. You can’t beat this curry!!!

Beautiful restaurant, really nice atmosphere. The food was amazing, all of it. The garlic naan was really light and full of flavour. Peshwari naan also very nice. I had chicken tikka masala which was lovely. Highly recommend.

First off. Poppadoms £6!!!!!! This is a curry house sin. Should be free I’m sorry. Also no mango chutney with it. However, lovely staff. Everyone was top drawer nice! My Chicken tikka Masala curry itself was a bit bland. Chicken was hard and the sauce was just sauce, no vegetables. Naan bread pretty good though. Won’t be rushing back I’m afraid

As a fan of Indian dishes, this place offers a wide range of recipes from south to the north as the chefs coming from Madras and other regions of India

To be fair, while the taste is not bad, the portion is too small⚠️ and hence not a value for money. Paneer Tikka for example only had 3 cubes of paneer as a starter, maybe plated well, which made it no real value for money @ £ 7.95. The rice was also too less in quantity as against the Dal Makhani, which was still ok for the portion. They didn't have Veg Biryani on the menu but offered the same anyways. As a regular traveler in different places and having Indian food in different corners of the world, I think it's over hyped for the experience and portion, but good for the taste! By the way the mirror at the back wall is quite confusing, walk with caution!⚠️

Came for a night in Bristol from Wales and had heard good things about Urban Tandoor pre booked via their website. Was amazing, surpassed my expectations, so much atmosphere, music, decor, full house, staff so polite and helpful with advice on what to order. Was my husbands birthday and he had a song and a cake along with many others!! Don't expect I'll be having Indian food with such flavour until I come back next. .....and that won't be long.
