Nutmeg in Bristol, City of

Simply superb food. Innovative take on many dishes that added a twist - this is definitely a restaurant and not a curry house.

We have been wanting to try Nutmeg for a long time and we meet up with friends regularly to try the different restaurants Bristol has to offer. The restaurant is lovely and cosy and decorated beautifully, tables by the door however can be draughty at this time of year so we asked to move and the waiting staff were great and moved us up slightly. Food was delicious, however I have to say the whole meal felt very rushed (our table was booked for 8:45), we hadn't finished our starters and our plates were whisked away because we were told our mains were ready! Half way through our mains we were asked if everything was ok and asked if we wanted any desserts as the restaurant would be closing soon. I also asked for Gin and Lemonade and each time was served Gin and Tonic and one drink came with no gin in the glass. Don't get me wrong the staff were very attentive and the food is outstanding but the overall experience was hurried and we left feeling very rushed.

I went with my family, food was not cooked properly and charged us twice with price of drink mistakenly.

Here after a couple of pints in the Royal Oak ( great pub) with the lads ( combined age 285) - old style night out . This is a great restaurant, I used to think an up market Indian was pointless , but after experiencing this place a few times I have changed my mind . The quality of ingredients , the delicate spicing ,and contrasting flavours of the food here are super. Very nice popadoms and chutneys. Then a number of different curries and vegetables . Lots of contrasting tastes and no feelings of being blotted next day ! We had prawns , chicken Labrada and duck curries . Also very good nan bread . Good service in a really rammed but comfortable setting . 4 of us agreed things had moved on since the “meat” curry after 8 pints of Brains SA university days ( thank God).

El menú no es típico de los restaurantes tradicionales indios. Buen ambiente y excelente servicio. Los precios son más caros que un restaurante tradicional indio, pero era una buena relación calidad-precio.

Visitamos Nutmeg para una comida familiar a petición de mi hijo (estudiante de 1 año de calle) que quería aprovechar una visita familiar para comer fuera. Pudimos reservar una mesa fácilmente en un momento que nos convenía a través de la página web. La bienvenida a su llegada fue cálida y a pesar de que el restaurante estaba ocupado, cuando los anfitriones vieron a uno de nuestros miembros caminar con un palo, nos habrían movido felizmente a una mesa de abajo si fuera necesario. El servicio era amable y eficiente y el menú era muy agradable - ofreciendo más variedad de cocina india que a menudo es el caso. Todos tuvimos diferentes platos principales - 3 verduras y 1 carne - y estábamos igualmente satisfechos con estos y los lados. La sorpresa final agradable fue el precio razonable de la factura al final de la noche. ¡Cuando lleguemos a Bristol, seguro que volveremos a visitarlo!

La comida era fantástica - moli de pescado absolutamente excelente! El servicio era excelente también - nuestro camarero era encantador, amable y muy servicial. ¡Qué pena que no recuerde su nombre! 10 / 10

I have visited a few times and it's a lovely place for a meal. The food is excellent and the staff are so friendly and helpful. When I visited last weekend, I didn't like the main course I choose (personal preference, nothing wrong with the food) so they let me order two side dishes instead and didn't charge me any extra. It's definitely up there with my favourite restaurants in Bristol.

Second time we have been here with a large group. Service was absolutely amazing and food was absolutely delicious! Would highly recommend coming here for a quality speedy service and lovely well prepared food. Thank you Alex for making it extra special for my friends birthday!

Very underwhelming. Beef madras and shahi murgh was ok - it was very much like other decent takeaways across the UK. Aloo Chat flavours were great but lacked texture. Paneer sagwala tasted raw and stodgy. Did not feel good after this meal. Roti was also warmed and not fresh. Customer service was fantastic. Visited 12/10/24 @ 17:30

This is my third time at Nutmeg in as many years - the food service and atmosphere never disappoint! I look forward to my next visit to Bristol.

I had the lamb chops last night and Im still dreaming of it. It truly was a culinary experience and I'm usually one not to brag about food but this was something else. The duck was also next level, the meat was cooked perfectly and I finished every single little last bit of sauce. The place looks lovely and is very cosy. Can’t wait to go back.

A pleasant neighbourhood restaurant with a selection of dishes from the Northern part of the Indian subcontinent. Generous portions and good quality ingredients. Thank you !

Absolutely gorgeous food and the mocktails were delicious. My partner and I had the perfect meal there and it’s by far the best Indian restaurant I’ve been to. Cannot recommend more.

My Wife and I ate at Nutmeg in Clifton yesterday and we both found the food and service to be excellent. The waitress explained that my Beef Chennai dish is fairly hot spice wise but I still chose to go ahead. Yep, it was spicy but still flavoursome and not overpowered by heat. My Wife's Lamb Shank Curry was also very very nice. Top this off with lovely starters (Onion Bhaji and a Murg Bhatti) and a nice sweet and it was most enjoyable. Slight discrepancy with the final bill but that was a software glitch and all sorted out cordially. We will be back.😎. Oh, and the Independence Ale was also V nice ❤️

Very tasty starter and spinach kofta, and lovely cocktails

We went for dinner for my partners birthday 14/09/24, he'd been wanting to try it for ages and as we don't get the opportunity to go out much with kids and work, we were both really looking forward to it. The food and service were excellent, the waiting staff knew the menu well and were able to give good advice on what to order. There was a bit of a hold up with our mains, which, as is was a busy Saturday night, was fine, we were happy to wait. Staff came over a couple of times to apologise but it was no big deal, we were enjoying ourselves. The issue came later when we were asked if we would like dessert, I said I would like to look at the menu and the server replied that we "should bare in mind that we had to give the table back at 20:30" it was 20:10 at this point so we decided against it. It was very disappointing as this was caused by the hold up with our mains, through no fault of our own. I would have thought that they could make an allowance so that we could enjoy a dessert. Overall though, we thoroughly enjoyed our evening here, and will go again, just a shame about the dessert.

We recently dined at this fantastic Indian restaurant (the one in the centre, not Clifton) and we were blown away by it. The street food was absolutely delicious - bursting with flavour and perfectly spiced. Each dish was a delightful journey of tastes and textures with dishes that we’ve not seen before on a typical Indian restaurant menu. Another highlight was the outstanding service. Zach, Jenny and Alex were all superb - they went above and beyond to make our dining experience all the more memorable. We would definitely recommend this place for anyone looking for a more authentic Indian food experience!

Fantastic food, by far the best Indian in Bristol. Don't go there if you want a standard chicken tikka. Go there if you want fantastic flavours, traditional freshly prepared and cooked food! Absolutely amazing curry's.

I had ordered through Deliveroo specifically saying that no dairy in any of the items as it said can be made vegan. Inspite of notes, there was yoghurt on top of the chat. Taste wise it’s okay. But I expected it to be better with notes mentioned.

The vegan channa was deliciously flavorful. I was surprised it didn’t come with rice. I’m glad I ordered a garlic naan too then! Picking it up - must say the vibe in the restaurant was great. £10 + £4 seems like a good deal.

The staff and their service was excellent. They could not have been more accommodating and attentive. The food was really nice, we had a friend who didn’t really like spicy food, and me who really likes it. Everything tasted amazing - see my terrible photos of it. Everyone ate way too much and it was amazing. I would say it got really hot at our table in the back. Not sure the AC was firing on all cylinders - just being a bit picky.

Totally delicious food in this brightly coloured, welcoming Clifton gem - everything we ordered was fantastic. Unique flavours and expertly cooked dishes. Great, friendly and efficient service, with courses arriving promptly. Staff made a fuss of our three teens all celebrating their birthdays with ice cream plates to finish our supper.

Really delicious flavours, generous portions and excellent service. Really enjoyed our early evening meal. We also took home our leftovers!

One of the better restaurants in the posh areas of Bristol. A truly modern Indian. Great atmosphere in a chic setting, a bit pricey, like expected, but well worth it. The shank was coming out of the bone, beautifully cooked, so tender! Both curries we tried were delicious and just the right amount of spice. PS: you need to book a table; there is easy parking nearby

Really fantastic service from everyone on the team - we felt very welcome and looked after. As other reviews suggest, the back room can be a bit noisy so best for larger groups - we were only 3 wanting a quiet family dinner so asked if we could move to the front and our waiter did everything to accommodate. Food is delicious and really well presented - I found that duck breast is not the best thing to combine with Indian cuisine as the meat flavour drowns easily in the sauce. Everything else was delicious and spicy in just the right way.

Fantastic experience at Nutmeg Clifton. Food was excellent, Pork Vindaloo was exceptional,as was the Duck Chettinadu. Service was impeccable especially from the manager, sorry didn't get your name. Book ahead, it will be busy.

Really nice Indian food (5 stars). A bit different to your standard fare. Just be aware, if you go with more than 4 you will likely be in the 'back room' and it is just so noisy there as it is too small. Update June24 - back as a couple and sat in the front. Much more pleasant. Very flavourful dishes.

Food was very flavourful and well presented. This restaurant is well known and popular, and overall fantastic. But see the less good reviews for valid points - the backroom is for groups, over 4 and so so noisy because it is small. The condiments with the poppadoms are indeed small, but good. It can feel rushed, because they have to fit you into a 2 hour dining window. But service great. Ex Michelin food and cosy.

Innovative take on Indian cuisine.

Nutmeg is one of my favourite restaurants I live in Gloucester and happily travel to eat here. The food is amazing the staff are friendly and always happy to help explain the menu.

The food was quite good but we felt the waiter was dismissive and rude when one of our party asked if a particular dish could be made less spicy (not unreasonably I thought) “We are not a curry house, all our dishes are made from scratch” he replied. Well, it shouldn’t be too hard to tone them down then! He could have suggested yogurt or ghee …it spoilt our evening which was a birthday celebration. We won’t be going back.

Booked online and all went well with pre-meal call to reconfirm our booking! Service was informative and attentive. Food was excellent. I would highly recommend!

This is my second visit to Nutmeg Clifton and the food was amazing! My friend and I had the Roast Duck breast in a coconut and curry leaf sauce which was delicious, the service was excellent with lovely touches such as wiping down the table after our plates had been cleared, thank you for a wonderful experience, will be back again(and again) 😊

Absolutely delicious! Had Yakhami Gosht, a beautifully cooked Lamb dish. My friend had Hydrabad Biryani equally good with a shared Garlic Naan and Bombay Jeera Aloo. Would highly recommend this restaurant, not only for the food but the very efficient and friendly team of servers.

The Nutmeg in Clifton Bristol was 5 star. Very quirky and one off. Service excellent and very helpful. Food was the best yet, we are Brummies so Indian food is the norm but this excelled all expectations. Chicken biryani was outstanding. Definitely worth a visit, highly recommended.

this is a tough one . . . meet and greet = pretty average - the atmosphere generally was good, table are quite close together, the music (dodgy 80's 90's pop) was a bit weird - the staff were generally nice and pleasant. However, the food was SUPERB - very tasty indeed.

Without doubt the best curry restaurant in Bristol and beyond. Never let down. Attentive staff, great buzz, good value.

It can be hard finding a place that has great food and amazing service and nutmeg surpassed my expectations. From the moment we walked in the staff were so attentive and friendly, mix that with the flavours in the dishes and it’s a 10/10 restaurant

Love Nutmeg, we always go here when we have visitors. My go to is always Lamb Biryani. The cocktails are delicious. Price is reasonable!

False advertising in Deliveroo with both of our Biryani dishes. The picture in the app implies it comes with bread so we didn’t order a naan. It didn’t. We were naanless on a Saturday night. Not happy. I give 2 stars as the food was actually nice. A take away nowadays is more expensive than going to a restaurant, I want to be served as well as in a restaurant, felt left apart. Edit: so my dish is cooked in a naan bread but then is not served with it ? What do you do with the bread? Food waste and fake advertising.

We were looking for a restaurant in Clifton and stumbled in out of the rain. Immediately it seemed different from your typical Indian restaurant and so it proved to be. A short, manageable menu with an array of dishes I was unfamiliar with. A choice of three BBF beers on draft added to my enthusiasm. The food proved to be excellent. My friend asked what dish I liked best and the honest answer was that I’d order all of them again. Worth noting that the pappadoms and naan bread were entirely grease free. Unusual but delicious. Nutmeg is definitely on my list of favourite restaurants in Bristol now.

Visited Nutmeg to celebrate a family birthday. The experience all round was great. As soon as you walk through the door the smell of the food that greats you is fantastic. We were a mixed group in terms of preferences and heat tolerances and our excellent waiter from the outset checked who liked their food on the milder side and who was ok with a little heat. He then explained which dishes would be suitable for the heat avoiders. We shared Papadums and the excellent Chutneys which were bursting with flavour. I had Guinea Fowl to start which was moist and so tasty. Main was Chennai Beef which had layers of flavour and a nice spice kick. Others had Nalli Ghost, Chicken Lababdar & Lucknowi Biryani, all were enjoyed and recommended. Service was very good throughout. The food was great all round and am looking forward to another visit in few days.

Visited their restaurant by the hippodrome. We didn’t book but were allowed to sit at the bar for food, which suited myself and a couple of friends. We shared some starts and main which was more than enough. Absolutely lovely food, great atmosphere and great staff. I don’t live in Bristol but if visiting would definitely look to come again.

Have eaten here a couple of times. Was impressed on my previous visits. Not so much on this one. starters came within 3 minutes of ordering. The mains quickly after. If they want everyone out at 11pm which they made very clear they should probably bring forward their last dining option. The main meals were very nice. I would go back but would book earlier in the evening.

We’ve been wanting to try Nutmeg for some time so we’re chuffed our daughter bought us a voucher for Christmas. Nutmeg did not disappoint. The food was fantastic but what I would really add is the service was outstanding. Our server was fantastic and gave advice on different dishes. Thank you Nutmeg for a lovely evening.
