Amazing lamb biryani.. lovely atmosphere.. very authentic and friendly staff....

We visited this restaurant during lunch time, and absolutely loved it. We had the Onion bhaji, Idli vada combo, Gobi manchurian and Plain Dosa for starters, and the Lamb, Fish and Chicken Thalis for mains. Probably the best South Indian food I have tasted in Bristol so far. It was our first time out to a restaurant with our 10 month old and the staff were so understanding and supportive - the little one enjoyed the idlis too! Thank you, we will definitely be visiting again.

I think this place gets lost as there’s so many restaurants on that part of Gloucester Road, but check it out you won’t be disappointed! The flavours are fresh and vibrant as street food should be and it has a great welcoming homely vibe. The dosas are lush, and nothing was oily or heavy. I went for an aubergine curry and lots of small plates which was so good! For 2 people we left full with a beer / wine each was less than £50 which is unheard of nowadays, and we tried loads of dishes. We will definitely be back! ❤️

Visited this restaurant with our son who is studying in Bristol. Happened to be walking by and liked the look of the place plus the street food options. Turned out to be an excellent choice. All the dishes we ordered were beautifully present and full of flavour - just the right amount of spice to not be overwhelming. Particularly enjoyed the onion bhaji starter which was fluffy and soft-centred as opposed to the hard fried versions you can usually get. Courteous, attentive staff and made reasonable prices too.

Chose this restaurant online out of the three here all in a row! Wasn't disappointed and very glad with my choice. One was empty and the other vegan restaurant was busy and looked nice (but I fancied meat😬). Nice atmosphere, professional service from the lovely staff, and all good options were really nice. I'd been to Nutmeg in town the week before which was amazing, so was a tough act to follow, but had a really good experience here and will definitely go back.

Absolutely blown away by our experience at Salkaara Street. From the moment we walked in, we were greeted with warmth and enthusiasm, and the atmosphere immediately set the tone for what turned out to be an incredible meal. The interior is absolutely brilliant — the walls are decorated with traditional Indian film posters, which gives the place so much charm and character. It’s vibrant, fun, and full of personality, just like the food. Let’s start with the service. Viven, our server, was outstanding. An absolute gem of a guy with a cracking mustache to match. He was attentive without being overbearing, checking in on us throughout the evening to make sure everything was spot on. It’s clear he takes pride in what he does, and that made our experience all the more enjoyable. Friendly, professional, and just a genuinely nice bloke. Now, onto the food — every single dish we had was exceptional. I started off with a mango lassi, and it was exactly what you’d hope for: cold, creamy, and incredibly refreshing. It was the perfect way to kick things off. The poppadoms arrived next with a trio of chutneys. I was especially taken with the mango and red sauce — sweet, tangy, and bursting with flavor. The mint sauce was just as good, cool and herby with a perfect balance to the spice. Honestly, I could’ve just kept eating those all evening. The Agni wings were a real highlight. Packed with flavor and heat, they had just the right amount of kick to get your tastebuds going. They were so good I found myself chewing on the bones at one point, not wanting to miss a single bit of that fiery, rich marinade. Next up, I had a lamb naan which paired beautifully with the chicken tikka I ordered. The naan was soft with a slightly crisp edge and filled with that deliciously spiced lamb. It went down an absolute treat. The chicken tikka itself was perfectly cooked — tender, juicy, and infused with that signature smoky tandoori flavor. Served with a portion of pulao rice that was fluffy, fragrant, and just the right texture, the whole dish came together beautifully. The sauce that accompanied it was rich and savory, tying everything together into a truly satisfying main course. Overall, I couldn’t be happier with the entire experience. The food was delicious, the portions generous, the ambiance vibrant, and the service absolutely top tier. A special shout out once again to Viven — if he’s not running the place, he should be. The man knows how to look after his guests and clearly takes pride in making people feel welcome and well-fed. Great food, great service, great price. Salkaara Street has definitely earned a spot on my list of favorites. I’ll absolutely be back.

Outstanding food, great friendly service, and a cool vibe inside. Having previously had a few takeaways delivered from Salkaara Street we went to eat in and it continued to exceed our expectations. The food was faultless. I would highly recommend a Thali (the lamb particularly was great!) which is incredible value and gives you a good mix of key dishes.

I don’t like leaving bad reviews, especially when the staff were friendly, but I was so disappointed with my food. I paid £11 for a vegetable biryani takeaway which was consisted of one tupperware box of rice with a few vegetables and very little sauce in it. It was so bland I could only manage to eat half of it.

I’ve visited this place a few times, and it never disappoints. Their Christmas special beef stew with appam was a standout – the curry was creamy, perfectly spiced, and absolutely delicious. The thali is my another favourite, a simple, homely feel that’s pure comfort. Of course, their classic porotta and beef combo is a must-try as well. The service is equally commendable – the staff are incredibly kind, considerate, and always make you feel welcome. Highly recommend this spot for authentic and flavorful kerala food at an affordable price.

Wow real authentic Indian food! Best we have had for a long time. Recommend their Street Curry and Dhal that said the Dosa and Ghobi Manchurian were also delicious.

We popped in here completely randomly last night as we were in the area and hungry. I’m very used to the remarkably similar usual English ‘Indian’ menus of most Bristol curry houses… what a breath of fresh air this place is! Amazingly fresh and tasty food, great service and an open and airy ambiance- we’ll definitely be back now we’ve found it!

We got a takeaway for a BD party of 15 at home. Vibin was most obliging in meeting our requests. The food came hot, promptly, all labelled & was delicious. (Avoid tandooris for quicker delivery). We all enjoyed our food very much & thank Vibin & his team for helpful service.

Amazing place. Wonderful spices make their dishes a delight. I've tried two on their curries so far, both were a hit. The prices are more than reasonable. The atmosphere is great, the music is clear, gentle and unobtrusive. The staff are attentive and super friendly. And did you know they are pet friendly? Me and my dog had a ball and felt most welcome. Will definitely be back

The curry was fine. Portion sizes and quantity of meat / fish were disappointing. We had a big order (trying most street food curries on the menu) and they came with 3/4 small bits of chicken or beef / 3/4 prawns. I would not go back based on this.

The Idli Chaat was a refreshing and flavorful twist, a perfect blend of textures and spices. The Chicken 65 was crispy on the outside, tender on the inside, with just the right amount of spice to make each bite irresistible. But the real standout for me was the Chicken Street Curry paired with the Malabar Parota—it was a true festival of flavors in my mouth. The curry was rich, aromatic, and deeply satisfying, while the Parota was soft, flaky, and perfect for soaking up all that goodness.

Get the vada pav👌🏻 bit of a wait but was worth it

Jijitha & Bipin were very welcoming. Service was excellent. When I mentioned garlic naan was not fully cooked, they immediately replaced it with naan to my satisfaction.

We tried Salkaara street food as this was the few places we could find some good porotta and beef. The place did not disappoint. We were welcomed by the smiling and pleasant lady. Our experience was enriched by the friendly manager Nitheesh who took our order and made sure we were well taken care of. The food was great. Specially recommend the chicken dum biriani, porotta and beef.

A Kerala cuisine which is not recommended for people from Kerala. Quantity is very poor. Paratta is good. But the mains and starters felt reheated frozen. Ambience and service is good.

Delicious - the fried lamb starter was awesome, the samosa chat was great value. We didn’t see any of the reviews before stumbling across it but having been inside I can see why it got such good responses.

My wife and I made a 26 mile round trip today to enjoy the best Indian food we've ever had in the UK. The dosa was delicious, the thali was absolutely superb, and the lamb street curry was yummie. Polite and attentive staff, who really care. Everything is fairly priced including the drinks. We'll be back (soon). The atmosphere certainly took me back to Kerela (which was the last time I tasted food as good as today's) . Highly recommended, I can guarantee you won't be disappointed.

Absolutely wonderful food and service. Very busy when we arrived without a booking and were told it would be a 45 minute wait. It wasn't anything like that. The fish curry I had was delicious, the portions were perfect. We were full with no waste. The staff were fabulous. Highly recommended.

We are so grateful to the whole team of Salkara street for allowing us to host the baby shower of our friend at the restaurant. They were so patient the service was impeccable, the atmosphere was amazing. They truly went above and beyond to make it all happen. Their customer service was excellent. Vipin the Host was really too kind and patient, he has great customer skills, and is so welcoming. Overall we had a wonderful evening, a great thank you to them for making it the best evening. The food was just superb. We will truly Be visiting again very soon, this restaurant has vecome one of our favourites. We will deffinatly be hosting more events here. The Chilli Gobi is incredible! I only had a drink and one small plate as I wasn't hungry, but I will certainly be back.

Some may argue that food is the most basic level of survival. But to to turn that into an art form is a skill of the highest proportion. I did not just eat a curry this evening; I ate food passed down the generations that was of the highest standard of authenticity. I do not say this lightly when I pronounce this the best curry in Bristol. My highest regards go to the chefs and the service staff who do there most to uphold this esteemed establishment. Five stars.

Brilliant southern Indian food outlet. Easily one of the best in Bristol. All the dishes we ordered were delicious and tasty. It was not greasy. All freshly made to order. They don't use readymade sauces to prepare the dishes. The staff were very friendly and attentive. Mr. Vipin's suggestions were spot on especially the fish (tawa) and lamb dishes. The cook caters to your palate, so do make your choices especially with spicy / chilli heat (mild, moderate etc.)

First visit here, bit concerned as it was empty when we arrived, but it was early. And it did fill up. Food was superb, service lovely and friendly. All in all, delicious. Would certainly recommend and I hope it's still here next time I visit my friends in Bishopston. Not the best picture but it was all very tasty, and the flavours subtle

Good food, had a wide selection between the 3 of us, idli, masala dosa, chicken masala, vadai, chicken thali and poppadoms. All was good, with a drink we paid about £25 each.

We had the Samosa, samosa chaat, chilli gobi, mango lassi, Hyderabadi Baingan and garlic naan and I have glowing reviews to give about all of these dishes. All the dishes had a well-balanced and authentic taste, really well prepared and of excellent quality! The staff was extremely friendly and the service was super quick. I usually never leave reviews, but I’ve been to so many Indian restaurants in Bristol and London and I must say that this is the best Indian restaurant I’ve come across in England so far (as a vegetarian). It was such a warm and comforting experience to have a meal here. Will definitely be coming again and be trying their dessert because that has great reviews as well!

Food was really good !! Being a South Indian I’d agree the flavours are very authentic and delicious!! Ordered the tawa fish which was rich in flavour (similar to Ghee roast chicken) and the beef parotha combo- beef was well cooked ! Loved it.. also heard it’s one of the nicest Indian restaurants in Bristol !
