We stayed just a few doors down from the Union Vaults during our 2 month holiday around the Uk. This pub has the best atmosphere, bar staff (Brenda ?) and the locals that made us feel like family. A special thanks to Ff’en and his mates that played Bagatelle and sang to us. The 4 Ozzie’s that sat in the corner, thanks guys. See you again one day. Keep up the singing. Cheers

This is a great spot for a casual night out. The landlady, Sandra, served us a range of Coors whilst cheeky chappy Deano sold us some short dated whey protein powder. A Chester institution - UV is required visiting from far and wide. It’s is considered ‘holy ground’ by locals and is well worth a pilgrimage to this promised land.

Very traditional basic back street local. Only been here once before on way to railway station. Ic had a pint of Taylor's Landlord. £3.90. Fullers London Pride not on. The pub has an up to date Cask Marque as March 2023. Has a bagatelle table the like of which I have never seen before..no mushrooms and balls settle in the holes rather than drop. Apparently there is a league in Chester.

Great little back street pub - one of a very few left. Friendly, cheap and no frills. Proper pubs like this need to be supported before the march of 'gastro pubs' (which should not be called pubs) force them into extinction. All the best to the Union Vaults!

Was in Chester for the day and wanted somewhere decent, but affordable, to go for lunch. I asked online and Union Vaults came highly recommended. I plumped for the cheese and onion crisps in a roll for my food and a Coors Light and black to quench my thirst. Both were exceptional and the barmaid, Mildred, was very attractive. I got talking to a local, Deano, who offered to build me a bicycle for 4 pints of Coors Light, so I’ll certainly be back. A real must visit.

Headed down from Scotland to Chester with the wife for a long weekend. Wanted somewhere unpretentious to dine, yet with excellent food, so asked online and Bob, from Rochdale recommended Union Vaults. The food was exceptional, Sharon really knows how to rustle up a feast with a price as attractive as she is. We made friends with a couple of the locals, Barry and Deano. It turns out Deano used to be the no. 1 rated chess player in England and once beat Bobby Fisher in a blitz match. I would recommend Union Vaults - great beer, great company and great prices.

On any trip to Chester intake I always try to drop into The Union Vaults Pub ,a tremendous back street pub that's always a joy to visit. I love the look of this pub,two roomed, great decor and furnishings ,a solid wood serving bar, traditional pub gaming tables,tv's to enjoy the sport and plenty of seating options spread throughout this pub,all in all a great pub to unwind in. We were here on a Thursday night, pub was busy with a great atmosphere ,we ordered Timothy Taylor's " landlord " , these were served in excellent condition,we just kicked back and took in the great pub we were in. My pale ale was really good,a crisp, well balanced pale ale ,hints of toffee,a delicious aroma and aftertaste ,a classic British pale ale,so tasty ,so refreshing. We really enjoyed our pale ale's in here before we moved on and as on every other visit to here we had a great time. The Union Vaults Pub is easy to locate down Egerton Street. Opening hours are; Monday to Sunday,10am till 11pm. Well worth checking out if you're in the area.

The Union Vaults is a superb street corner pub on Egerton street that offers a superb range of cask ales and is without doubt an excellent pub to visit if you are in Chester. Housed in a Victorian building'the brilliant pub has a three roomed interior with many interesting fixtures and features and is an excellent pub for bagatelle and darts and is a major player in both leagues. We visited here on our second day around Chester and what a great pub. With superb staff and friendly locals its the ideal pub to relax and unwind and enjoy a few beers. When we visited here we had a few pints of Timothy Taylor's brewery Landlord beers a superb cask ale well served and price wise on par with other pubs in Chester. This is a superb pub and well worth a visit and very easy to find from Hoole Way bus stop you walk up Egerton street. This is the second best pub on the entire planet, after The George and Dragon in Lancaster. Myself and 2 friends arrived at about 1530 on a sunny Sunday. Upon entering we were greeted with a friendly welcome from the locals and proceeded to attempt to scan the Covid tracking code. Alack, the system appeared to be down at the time but our details were subsequently taken via the ubiquitous pen and paper. We tooted around the pub to find somewhere to sit and was politely informed by the local clientele that everywhere was taken and that we couldn’t move any furniture. After some robust discourse we ascertained that this was due to BREXIT and not Covid. We moved outside. The attractive landlady then came to take our order - the real ale selection was phenomenal with a solitary Pedigree offering on tap. We chose Coors. It was also great to see such an inclusive pub, welcoming of disabilities as, apart from staff, nobody wore a facemask due to their hidden mental health issues. It’s great to see such inclusivity - this pub is at the vanguard of the new era of inclusive pubs. 10/10

My first experience since the Pub was refurbished. I attended with my elderly cousin who uses a walker. However the staff were most attentive in ensuring we found a suitable table. A mix of high and low seating very cosy armchairs. The decor is good and relaxing. The menus are extensive but l was disappointed they lack the Home Made signature dishes of the previous chef. We both chose Mixed Grill. Which arrived very quickly nice and hot. All but one item was cooked perfectly that being the pork sausage. I mentioned this purely as l feel they should consider a Cumberland textured sausage, as the variety they use is dried out and solid in texture. I can’t rave about the food other than to say it was acceptable. Would l return ? Yes to test out a Sunday Lunch. Please note Disabled Access is via the front of pub not rear carpark.

Went into this pub with the dog. There were no clear signs indicating that this is the only place in Chester that's not dog friendly. Dog is quite large. Ordered drinks at the bar, they took our money then told us we would have to leave as they don't allow dogs.
