Friendly place for a few drinks.

We recently visited while camping nearby. It was a Monday night so unsurprisingly a bit quiet, but the guy serving behind the bar was great. He was very friendly and chatty, dead helpful too with local knowledge. The pub weren't serving food that night but he let us eat food we'd ordered from over the road in the pub. Would definitely recommend 👍

Visited this pub a few times during a recent trip to the area. The staff were really friendly, and welcoming of our toddler being with us. We had food one afternoon which was great value for money, and the beers are reasonably priced. The atmosphere was spot on, and they have a good sized beer garden too for those sunny days.

We visited today not long after opening, it was a little quiet but I suspect everyone was saving themselves for the England match later tonight ! The food was spot on, can highly recommended the Fish & Chips & the Beef Sunday Roast was lovely. Proper home made food & the roast potatoes were a 10/10! Could not fault the service either, really friendly staff. It’s a good 45 minute trip for us, but we will definitely visit again.

Went for first time today with family, had the roast dinners, food was amazing, very fresh good portions, desserts just as good, will be back !

Excellent local pub with wide selection of drinks and great food all at reasonable prices, lovely staff, shows live sports and has weekly live music. Kiddy friendly too. Ticks every box!

Had a Sunday roast today with the family. Absolutely superb! Top quality home cooked food.

Impromptu lunch at this lovely, traditional pub in Tattenhall after a day out in the area. We both had the chicken Yorkshire pudding wrap, which came with stuffing, huge chunky chips, peas and a whole jug of gravy each! Might not look like much, but there was plenty of meat in those wraps 👌🏻😋 Friendly, welcoming staff and a good range of beers too. Worth a stop off, if you're in the area.

Staying locally in our caravan so took a walk with our 3 whippets and called in for a drink before walking back. We where welcomed the dogs where fussed and we had a drink.. must try food as the menu looks great

Came in for a Sunday roast. Perfect

Probably will not return. Beer cloudy. Even though I picked up the glass and stared at the cloudy beer they chose to ignore or were oblivious to how real ale should be. My colleague and I give it the benefit of the double and had two pints but the second was even cloudier. Then a regular camd in and they told him it was the end of the barrel and they had no more. They knew they were serving the dregs of the barrel! I vote with my feet and will frequent other pubs that know how to serve and keep draught beers properly.

Came here for Sunday lunch to find the chef had left. This had become a regular for meals as it was the best place locally. Sadly now will have to look elsewhere. Such a shame just what the village needed. New menu looked amazing

Simply Amazing, we were on holiday, you will never ever find better hospitality anywhere I promise you. Bank holiday so kitchen closed and they allowed us to bring fish chips inside even provided cutlery and condiments. Even provided us with local guidebooks, oh and did I mention the ale is legendary… if i could give 6/5 i would, i wish all pubs were run by people like this !!!!! Thank you

I visited a friend who lives 3 doors away from the Sportsmans Arms. But it used to be one of my Local pubs years ago but I didn’t frequent this one.

Quickly becoming my favourite place to eat! We all had different things this time and couldn’t fault anything. All pies are homemade- fish pie is amazing! We also had steak and ale and the cheese and onion pies too. The children’s menu is great and all is made from fresh which is surprising these days. We also saw fish and chips and steaks at the next table and will be back for them! Great desserts too with Cheshire cream from up the road. Staff all friendly and atmosphere again perfect for a family occasion. Thanks again.

Really enjoyed an afternoon in here. The staff were friendly and helpful. I would definitely recommend anyone to drink here. The place is clean and inviting.

Heard the Sportman had a new chef and menu so decided to try it out- I was pleasantly surprised! Staff were friendly and made us feel really welcome. Although it was busy, the food came quickly. Starters were amazing- loved the hullloumi fries! For mains we had a Cajun burger and a rump steak which was cooked to perfection. The children’s meals were a good size and tasted awesome (so I was told)! Deserts were to die for, ice cream was delicious. Great range of beers and ales on tap. A great place to eat, shame we couldn’t stay for the band.

As advertised’serving lunches between 12 and 7pm, I assumed they would be busy so called at 3pm to book a table for my son and I at 5.30pm. Upon arrival, the staff were friendly and showed us to our seats, restaurant was closed so, i sat at a table for 2, with my 11 year old adjacent to the bar. Not ideal when privacy was needed. We ordered nachos, or should it be described as tortillas thrown in a deep fat fryer, covered in sour cream with no guacamole, (they must have run short on that ingredient). Main meal x 2 were both returned to the kitchen. Cabbage was grey, carrots were over heated, gravy was poured all over the plates instead of being in a jug. Evidently, the chef was tired or just couldn’t be arsed !! I won’t eat here again despite having a refund, If you advertise serving til 7.30pm then serve quality.

Drank in the Sportsman for 40yrs. No atmosphere at the moment. Fires not even lit to make it more homely. The real ale is kept well and is very good.

Excellent service from the moment we arrived, No booking nessersary, however restaurant did become quiet busy. Good menu with lots to choose from. Food was presented well and full of flavour. Cooked to perfection and good price. Well done and thank you, we will be back again soon ☺️

Went on a Sunday for a roast dinner which was lovely 👌🏼 nice big bowl of veggies to go with it too and the roasties where just perfect. Nice a crispy and fluffy inside. The kids had kids meals which I think where really reasonably priced. There is a lovely little park less than 2 minutes from the pub too which the kids loved after dinner

Was staying in the area with my girlfriend recently, and we needed to do a little work whilst we were away and The Sportsman’s Arms were very accommodating! We had food two days and both meals were delicious, the staff were lovely, and the drinks great! Couldn’t ask for more and if we’re ever back in the area we’ll return! (Recommend the burgers in particular - American burger and the Chicken one were both out of this world - picture below)

You can get better food in weatherspoons, i had the pie, you can tell its just bought in, the pie tasted nice but the chips were cleary frozen, the veg was bland, boiled and presentation was clearly lacking. My partner had the burger, meat had a very fatty taste to it he said. More effort and more love should go into the food because the pub is a lovely pub. We will stick to the pheasant, and recommend you do to if you want good food. Nice for a drink but nothing more.

I do not recommend you eat this frozen, ready made, bought in over priced food.

Lovely freshly cooked food and friendly service

I'm a solo traveller with my dog and decided a long walk in the rain was a good idea,it wasn't! I spotted this pub and decided it was time to dry off. From the minute I stepped in I felt welcomed. They seated us by a gorgeous roaring fire to dry off,treat my dog to several trests and lots of fuss. It was so homely there we ended up staying for a meal and several more drinks. On asking if they could help me organise a taxi the young landlady offered me a lift ! There was nothing these brilliant people wouldn't do. I'm so glad I found this gem.of a place. Brilliant atmosphere huge gorgeous meals and kind / helpful staff x x

Fabulous burgers, fries, coleslaw, salad and sauces! Cooked to perfection! Super tasty! 100% better than The Pheasant and at a fraction of the price! Very impressed keep it up! Delicious thank you!

Great pub, great hosts. Well recommended. Spent a great afternoon here watching the Lions. Could not have been better looked after.

Very slow service. Understandable on Friday when England were playing Scotland. Gave it another go on Sunday, the pub was pretty empty and still taking well over 30 minutes to be served. Went inside multiple times to be told it’s table service only and they would come out and still had to wait 20-30 minutes for somebody to come and take our order. Unfortunately cannot recommend.

The food is good, the place is nice but the service was awful. In the middle of the Corona virus pandemic our waitress with long blond hair and pierced nose spoken to us with her fingers in her mouth. When she came to our table to take the orders she put up her legs on the bench where I tried to sit down so I needed to ask her to take her feet down because I try to sit down. All in all nice place, good food but the service needs improvement.

Visted yesterday. Greated by welcoming friendly staff. Terrific pizza with lovely sides. Sat outside in the sun in the Beer Garden. Thank you Sportsmans Arms. Most definitely recommended.

Came in today after visiting the ice cream farm very underwhelming food for the price paid chicken burger had to be sent back and swapped for another item as came out black and left a burnt taste in the mouth which we were told was just the spices, definitely was burned and definitely wouldn't be visiting again as the replacement meal i chose after wasn't really up to scratch either but didn't say anything as I just wanted to get out of there at this point not impressed at all 🤷‍♂️

Good value for money pub grub! My wife had the BBQ loaded fries and I had a Steak and chips, we liked it so much we went back the next day and had the same again! Nicely cooked steak, crispy onion rings, perfect field mushroom and lovely chips! Portions are generous, so much so we cannot review the deserts as we were already full. Quiet during the week for lunch, but we like that.

Lovely to return to this place after many years, as inviting and wonderful as I remember when I used to go there with my parents and my Dad's WW2 veteran friend Major Pearce - evoked wonderful memories.

We booked 8 for lunch, 4 adults and 4 children ages 4-8. We were off to the Ice cream farm for an afternoon session. Thought we'd have a decent lunch as it was the last day before the children went back to school. What a little gem! We were the only ones eating. Waited a little while but it was worth the wait. Bar nibbles, tempura prawns, mozzarella sticks, chicken goujons and nachos. All freshly cooked and the prawns were amazing. Adults had rib eye steak, chips, mushroom, fresh onion rings and dressed rocket. Children had freshly cooked fish and chips or sausage and mash. Again amazing and portions really big. If I lived nearer this would be my local eatery. Well done the chef. Also well done to our server too.

First time in Tattenhall, lovely village brilliant park near pub. Food was beautiful. Family of 4 so tried a variety of pizzas, butchers burgers were lovely. Chicken goujons & fish plate was gorgeous. Very friendly staff helped us out with WiFi & phone charger. So good we went back for 2nd visit. Thanks 👍

Just been for the first time and I’m only local, I Used the eat out To help out.... What a lovely little pub, great homemade food... pleasantly surprised..!

Tuvimos una comida fantástica aquí el martes por la noche. Éramos un grupo familiar grande y el personal era amable y servicial. La comida era fabulosa, teníamos la hamburguesa del carnicero y fue increíble. Mi hijo tenía salchichas y puré de niños y fue una comida adecuada para adultos, con salchichas de cerdo reales y sabrosas verduras. Los postres que tuvimos también fueron increíbles: mi hijo dijo que era el mejor brownie de chocolate que había probado (¡y que había comido algunos!) Recomiendo encarecidamente este pub y definitivamente regresaríamos si estuviéramos en la zona nuevamente .

Esta fue nuestra primera comida adecuada desde el cierre y quedamos muy impresionados.Estábamos alojados en el campamento al final de la calle.El personal fue muy amable y no pudo ayudarnos más. La comida era muy sabrosa y mi pizza era ligera y crujiente. Los postres también eran geniales. La cerveza estaba bien cuidada y al final nos organizaron un taxi a buen precio.En general, una gran noche (aunque un poco tranquila). Se merecen superar esta situación de Covid y ciertamente volvería en el futuro.

Muy a menudo tienes una pizza en un pub en estos días y todo lo que obtienes es una base hecha en la fábrica del congelador. Simplemente barato y desagradable. Sin embargo, fuimos al deportista en busca de un almuerzo tardío sin tener la intención de comer una pizza por esta misma razón. Sin embargo, cuando les trajeron la comida a una pareja a nuestro lado, nos vendió allí y, entonces, ambos comimos pizza. Recién hecho en un horno de leña, de un tamaño decente y NO es caro. Consumido con papas fritas cargadas. Muy agradable. Recomendado.

Nice fireplace and there is a pool table. Food was adequate but overcooked and dry. Feta salad Ok! Try the Beehive instead wish I'd gone in there. Lovely village.

Lovely place and amazing food and beautiful location

First time of eating since it was taken over and it was great. 5 adults and 3 children and a very reasonable bill at the end. I had a steak burger....home-made and delicious. Highly recommended!

My most memorable meal for quite a while, but sadly for the wrong reasons, really really poor food - straight out of the freezer and into the microwave- bland, plastic, synthetic and cheap. Beer was good though.

Halloumi burger is fantastic and is as good as the meat dishes in its own right. However the remainder of the menu is a bit threadbare and you’d have to ask for some obvious pub dishes to be made to order, and there’s no purpose-made bicycle parking.

Lovely food. Enjoyed it here but 3 stars for our evening as some drunken locals were no trouble but very noisy.

Buen y eficiente servicio y una gran variedad de comida. La carne y el pastel de cebolla que tuve fue perfecto, el pescado, las patatas fritas y los rissottos que disfrutaron los demás también fueron excelentes. Buena pinta también. Yo lo recomiendo.

Lovely staff (always with a smile) and good food at reasonable prices. Admittedly we are hungry after a whole day in cold weather... the cosy environment and tasty food was a much needed pick-me-up

If you never tried having a chinese in a pub try this place the food is good the beer as well and get their early to grab a table and you can watch the football on the big tv Bonus

If you ring ahead they will ensure the gluten free fryer is heated up and ready to go! Both my Dad and I are gluten free and he fancied fish and chips so they went to the Spar across the road to get some gluten free flour to make us some gluten free batter. My brother who is not gluten free decided to have the same and was very glad he did! The result was a beautiful light, crispy batter encasing a huge piece of perfectly cooked fish, a generous portion of chips with side of mushy peas and tartare sauce - heaven on a plate with excellent service! we will be back!

Had a fab night in the Sportsman and highly recommend ! Only downside was no Wine glasses ! Staff were great and food was good too! Get yourself to Ikea for wine glasses and you have yourself a gem!
