My son had gone to uncle joes the previous week so we thought lets go we should have drove by it may have just been the wrong day and they were short staffed but the service was very poor no eye contact when the menus was brought service was slow it looked painful 2 watch when our meals arrived we wasn't asked if we wanted anything so I asked a few minutes later if they had barbaque and chillie sauce 4my husbands hotdog the waiter said he had neither and brought brown sauce which we don't like so we ate our meal sauce free ,no complaints on the food but certainly off putting if they do not see how their staff behave and also we've been to many American diners all over the country this looked like a transport cafe very uncomfortable chairs cold looking seating areas, also the toilets was smelly and dirty,as I say I would return again because of the food only if the decor improves and got better attentive staff,I presume the chef is the owner as he chatted prior to our meal and was very pleasant and sounded passoinate about the place I myself have worked in this industry and I now to we'll it's a tough world the food industry you have to get it right behind and in front of house, I will wait to see if any changes happen before I come again

If you have ever watched Man vs Food and enjoyed salivating over the idea of eating all the American themed foods such as pulled pork and tornado hot wings then this is the place for you! I can't agree understand why some people have rated this gem of a diner so low, this place is not a dine out York Restaurant it's an American Style Diner - so that's what you get!

My partner and I decided to stop for a meal on our way home after a visit to York. Normally we would choose a restaurant in York city centre (there are some excellent choices) but the centre was busy due to the influx of visitors to the St Nicholas Fayre. I remember this location as being a Little Chef for many years and was hoping for something better. This was not to be the case however. On entering we were quickly shown to a table (there was only one other table with diners) and then left to peruse the menu, this didn't take long as the choice was fairly limited. No member of staff came to enquire if we would like to order drinks, which we would have expected. A waitress did approach us and ask if we were ready to order and then enquired if we had already ordered drinks. As stated previously there was only one other table occupied so it cannot be the case that the staff were really busy and had not the time to take a drinks order. Actually, upon reflection, the staff were busy....busy talking to each other.I ordered a cheeseburger, which the menu informed me was accompanied by onion rings, fries and a salad. My partner ordered 'Surf & Turf', a steak, salad, fries and a skewer of prawns with a garlic and lemon dressing. The meals duly arrived and my partner searched for her steak, which was to be found under a mountain of fries. Vying for a place on the plate were a couple of limp lettuce leaves, two slices of pale tomato, a piece of cucumber and a slice of red onion. There was no dressing and the salad was distinguished by having no flavour whatsoever. The meal should have been accompanied with a magnifying glass to help find the steak, which, when finally located (being polite) was miniscule, tough and tasteless. The skewer of prawns (4 in total) shared the same qualities as the steak and there was no evidence of a garlic and lemon dressing. My cheeseburger can best be described as 'average'. In the bun there were also a couple of tomato slices and the house speciality, the limp lettuce leaves. There was also what tasted like Heinz salad cream, a taste inflicted upon me by mother when I was a child and one I was hoping to never experience again.I notice, on reading an earlier review, that the owner responded by stating that problems should have been pointed out to the waitress when she "table checked". This misses the point in that if food is served as I've described above, then presumably it was checked as being up to standard before it left the kitchen. The problem here is a low standard which is deemed to be acceptable and returning the food to kitchen would achieve very little. The kitchen is lacking in having a chef who is passionate about food and this really shows. It may be argued that I am expecting too much from a roadside diner but this is not the case. let me provide a couple of examples that would quickly make a difference.Instead of buying in bags of frozen chips it would probably be more economical (and certainly more appealing) to buy in the potatoes and carry out the whole process 'in house'.A simple lemon, balsamic vinegar and olive oil dressing would put some life and taste into a salad and takes very little time to put together. Not everyone loves huge portions of fries, to see so many on a plate is a sure indication of cost cutting on the main ingredient and indicates a mindset of "It must be good if there's a lot of it"...a case of substance over style. One of our favourite restaurants in York is Rustique (voted No2 in York on Tripadvisor). Their two course set menu would have cost us £25.90 in total. The cost of the one course each that we review here cost £24.05 in total. Unless this diner radically improves I feel sure that within twelve months the site will return to being an empty lot once more. One final point: This diner has two separate listings, showing different reviews, one is listed under York and the other for Flaxton. I have placed this review on the other site as well as this one.

Called in with my wife and two kids for a quick bite to eat. It's quite obviously been cobbled together on an absolute shoestring from the old Little Chef - I think the tomato sauce dispensers (plus a few other things) were remnants of its previous incarnation. The food was very lacklustre - certainly not worth the price. And I'm not sure I like being served my chips in a galvanised plant pot holder! If you're looking for a good burger or the like you could do far better than this - Oscars in York springs to mind. Also, toilets are freezing cold and didn't look like they'd been checked in a while.. I will not be returning.

We stopped off here on our way back from Whitby purely because we need a break, good fortune, as we discovered a new great little place. The staff were genuinely enthusatic and provided great service. The food was excellent, great choice and a fun American Diner theme..

What a great place, my wife said to me as we were leaving! To me that summed it up until then i'd never found a good steakhouse that also served fresh seafood (not in the UK anyway) she was delighted to see that it wasn't a typical grill, and enjoyed both courses, I on the other hand opted for the steak combo, and it was fantastic, succulent steak, fresh crispy buttermilk shrimp and baby back ribs in the most amazing bbq sauce, along with friendly helpful staff and some nice little quirks in the place made it really nice and unique, if they keep it up i'm sure it will become extremely popular, Thank you

Absolutely disgusting. Hair in food. Actually thick long black hair in the middle of my wrap. When politely showing staff and asking why no staff have hair nets on I was told they don’t need them unless preparing food. I pointed out a man with long hair doing chips who’s hair was dangling and a girl with long dark hair making burger who’s hair was loose. Along with all other staff. I was told they’ve just started and will get them to put a net on. Staff became rude and stood staring at us. Avoid at all cost.

Found this place while looking for something to eat. We were given a choice of inside or outside eating. We chose outside as it was so warm. Staff very attentive to us. I opted for a cocktail & it was with me within minutes. We ordered starters and mains. The starters were hugeeeee we couldn't finish them as needed to leave room for dinner. Quality was good, service was quick and value for money was great. 100% recommend and would definitely return.

Terrible service no staff but food it usually good. Not this time burgers were dry bread roll burnt chips over salty. Three burgers and chips and a drink each cost £49 so also overpriced. It is usually our treat when we go the the york outlet. Will not be going back will go to McDonald's for a nicer and cheaper burger.
