Ugly Bread Bakery in Nottingham

Quick service and the sandwiches here are fantastic. I had one with figs, cheese, red pesto, and I think lemon basil that was probably one of the best sandwiches I have ever had. The layers of flavours and the way they complimented each other was fasntastic. I am still thinking about it several days later and I really hope it's there again the next time I come by. My one negative is the Italian Hot Chocolate. I was expecting something like the cioccolata calda I'd find in Italy - thick and rich and made with dark chocolate. My first feeling that something was off was being asked if I wanted milk chocolate or white chocolate. I went with milk. Disappointingly, what I got was watery and lumpy (likely from the cornflour/starch not being whisked properly). I'm hoping that maybe this was a one off or that it'll be improved if I try it again.

Lovely cosy atmosphere, friendly staff and a great range of toasted sandwiches on all types of bread. And excellent value for money! Food done really well and not pretentious and half of the price - what other places would charge £13 you can get here for £6. New favourite lunch cafe in Nottingham

Tasty food and a cosy place to sit

My friends and I love this place. Always has a beautiful array of food and we throughly enjoyed our Saturday lunch get together here. Has a high chair and seats outside to enjoy in the sun.

Very helpful and friendly staff, delicious food with a large range of choice, and great ice coffee. I settled myself on a pepperoni, mozarella and spinach flatbread (it was delicious). All of their bread looks beautiful, and their sandwiches are heated to order so they stay beautifully fresh. I also had a 20oz Iced Latte with salted caramel syrup which is exactly what I needed after a 2 day stag bender. Couldn't have asked for a better breakfast. Highly recommend to anyone in the area for breakfast, lunch or afternoon tea.

Absolutely delicious food and excellent service.

We had sandwiches, the price is a bit high compared to the size. Delicious but low ingredient. Also, there is only one sandwich of each type. The atmosphere is nice, the staff is polite.

Good food, sandwiches variety was quite good for the price. However, would’ve loved some more salad on the side with an extra cost would’ve been fine. The staff were really sweet they provided us with some great recommendations too. Ideally better for a small group of people as the seating is limited.

They have the best sandwiches in Notts and friendly people. The cafe was warm and cozy and they have great offers everyday. I had a sandwich with a thick italian hot chocolate with double espresso. Loved every bite and sip of the food and my drink. Something interesting about this place is the people who work there have very good taste in music on top of their excellent service !!!!

Best coffee/bakery in Nottingham, cool retro vibe, excellent drinks, cakes, pastys & paininis. There is plenty of well-informed thought out seating, great staff & in a super location too. Highly recommended & an easy 5 star place to try.

I’ve now enjoyed two pizza making parties at ugly bread and both were amazing! Adult party you can bring your own drinks and is great for team building events. Also helped one of my best friends organise a children pizza making party and kids really enjoyed it. Very easy to book online!

This morning, I went to Ugly Bread Bakery with two friends to buy some sandwiches. We were served by a really friendly and attentive young man at the till, who was very polite and provided great customer service. However, I feel I need to mention something that I find a bit uncomfortable to bring up, but it’s important. There was a strong odour coming from him, and it seemed like there might be a hygiene issue. I’m surprised no one working with him has noticed this, as it was quite noticeable. I hope this can be addressed discreetly, as it affected our experience.

The food was laughable that they thought it was acceptable to serve. The service felt like they thought they were above you and you were lucky to be in their presence. The atmosphere tried to be trendy but ended up being dry and forced

Such a good experience! the staff was so nice he is like young and black hair and piercing he was so nice with me the mezaluna was delicious, i’m definitely coming back the music was good cozy place and lovely staffs the coffee was so good!💜

- They weren’t serving some parts of their menu but didn’t tell anyone or put a sign up, so I couldn’t have what I’d decided on once I got to the register and by then couldn’t go somewhere else because my friend had already ordered her lunch and paid - sandwiches barely had any filling - focaccia bread was disappointing for a place with bread in the name

Cosy bakery. Visited in the morning had no idea what I was ordering as it wasn't completely clear what the selection was - but they all looked great so I picked one with brie and some kind of salami. It was toasted in the large oven behind the counter and within a couple of minutes I had a really delicious fresh hot sandwich. Staff were super polite and friendly and the whole place had a great vibe. Must say, I didn't really care about not knowing what I'd ordered - but if I ever return I won't be able to order the same ... That being said,I'd be happy to try any of their sandwiches.

Great name, great food and great staff. We visited on Saturday lunchtime and were greeted with friendly staff and helped to make our choices. The food was lovely and the cannoli as good as any in Italy!

Tried to overcharge me by ten pound which they initially denied then said the previous customers order hadn't cleared the till when they paid. First sandwich had little filling and that consisted mainly of pickle and when I showed the waitress she did apologize, although second one purchased at own cost was lovely.

Just popped in to grab some lunch. Staff were very helpful and friendly. Food was tasty. Ready to crack on with my day. Job done and will be hitting this place up daily for a good feed now. Cheers guys 👍

Food is average at best. Sandwich fillings are a bit of a mishmash of random and mismatching ingredients and there is only a small amount of filling per sandwich.

It's nice, lots of variety and glad to have supported an independent business. However, I would argue that it isn't that affordable for what you get. Ok as a treat.

Visited on a Friday morning with my Father as part of a long weekend. Skipped breakfast at the hotel and wanted something local & different. We came upon this whilst walking through the city centre and gave it a bash. A whole manner of breads, confections & pizzas are available fresh from the counter. Cheddar, Basil, Tomato & Pesto Foccacia Hot Chocolate Black Americano Coffee Yum Yum I had the bread. I was expecting it as a sandwich but was very pleased to see it had a trip into the pizza oven. A delicious and delicate way to start our day. The hot Chocolate was very good also with a thick foam on top and a decently flavoured drink beneath. A trendy interior for student types & business people to do a couple emails with a bite to eat. Would visit again if I was in the city.

A truly independent business that brings you quality food at really affordable prices. The bread quality is outstanding with fresh ingredients. It serves all type of dietary requirements. The staff were very friendly and informative. If you look for a breakfast or lunch spot, this is certainly my recommendation.

Great food and atmosphere but the man behind the counter was rather rude when directing us to talk to the other female staff to order. If I had visited alone and not with a friend I would have instantaneously left. We all have bad days but to act in a rude manner isn't professional and business like at all.

Very friendly staff and a really good selection of sandwiches no matter your diet. The vegetables, spicy mushrooms and cream cheese sandwich I got was delicious and was gone as fast as it came. Also a very nice peach ice tea

Wet chairs outside and when I asked for blue roll to dry our seat they looked at me like I was mad when I returned to put the wet roll in there bin inside, and still no hint was taken to dry the other seats, the little things mean a lot to me but not to others but I guess that is modern life and people 👎

We moved to Nottingham City Centre 6 weeks ago. We're here to stay and have spent quite some time researching the neighbourhood as we want to spend more time eating out at different cafes and restaurants on a regular basis. I watched many You Tube videos on eating out in Nottingham City and The Ugly Bakery was featured in quite a few videos. What I didn't realise till after our visit was that all the videos are pre pandemic and that The Ugly Bakery has since changed hands and been sold so is under new management. (We were advised of this by 2 different neighbouring shop owners and according to them we were not the only visitors disappointed after eating there) The cafe has a very inviting frontage, cosy and welcoming. We went on a Bank Holiday around midday, Monday 28th August. I just want to say that I'm not writing this to bash this cafe, this is just re our experience on that day. In fact, the cafe was full of happy eaters, mostly eating sandwiches. We noticed the incredible looking sour dough sandwiches as we walked in, but we were in the mood for pizza. The young guy on the till was the most unpleasant server we have encountered in a long time. So indifferent and looked miffed when we ordered pizza. His arrogance was very off putting and he literally couldn't wait to give us a numbered wooden spoon and gruffly told us to go outside and find a table. We could almost feel his hands on our backs pushing us outside. We had ordered 2 hot drinks (not a warm day even in August) and 2 large pizzas. A lovely happy smiling girl brought our drinks out. Then our pizzas arrived. Burnt, painfully thin dough like a thin wafer-cracker. The toppings were Amazing! Succulent mushrooms and roasted peppers, but the dough was solid, crunchy to the point of possibly cracking a tooth. Visibly burnt and had obviously been forgotten in the oven. We had a couple of slices and a third employee arrived to work and very kindly asked how the food was. I was honest about it being inedible and he did ask if we wanted to speak to someone about it. We were so disappointed and still hungry and honestly just wanted to leave so we did. To sum up, not all the staff are rude, it has a lovely atmosphere and pretty tables outside so you can sit and watch the world go by. The sandwiches do look amazing as do the salads. Definitely worth a visit.

Really impressed, great flavours in a very light focaccia (not doughy at all), and the pepperoni mezzaluna was delicious 👍 Will be visiting again 😀

As much as I love the food here, I was disappointed in realising that I had been charged £8 for a 9 inch pizza that was on a Tuesday offer of £5.50. Felt like I was taken advantage of which I’m not happy about.

the bread is so delicious here! i tried the cheese mezzaluna and it was so good, instantly became my fave spot to eat at! will definitely be coming back again!

We visited on a Tue. All had their special of 9" pizza on a stonebaked sourdough base. £4.95. Absolutely gorgeous.

Firstly, lovely staff. Always friendly, great customer service. Secondly, the food is amazing. I love that the menu changes around and I can get something different each day. Its always fresh and tasty and the only complaint is I can never choose what to have because it all looks great. The deals offer great value, but even if you don't use them it is extremely well priced. You definitely get better quality shopping local! I will keep on coming back and recommend to all my friends.

Great pizza from a small but welcoming restaurant. Staff are very warm and friendly, pizza cooked fresh with crispy bases and there are discounts available every day. We got 2 9 inch pizzas for £4.50 each! Would recommend a visit for any pizza lovers.

Yummy and great value for money! We were served by a lovely young girl with brown hair (didn’t catch her name) who was very attentive. Both mine and my partners food was delicious and they gave me a bag to take it away and have it later! Will definitely be coming back :)

Food is delicious! First lunch trip out with my teenage daughter for a very long time and we made an excellent choice. We had a focaccia each, the portions were so big we could probably have shared and not been hungry. Sat outside, busy & bustling even on a week day lunch time. Would definitely recommend and will go out of my way in future to visit.

Great sandwiches and bread, and they sell (sold?) Beeston brownies, which are amazing, and staff were always friendly but I miss the Market Street store and wish they still had a larger, more central location with more room to sit in. The smaller counter space also means less of the range is on display.

Service outstanding. One of the best pizzas in Nottingham. Lachaes grapefruit cakes were fluffy and full of flavour. Definitely be coming back here.

Sandwich was delicious! The cranberry, ham, spinach, and cheese were lovely together, highly recommend trying it. Covid regulations are being followed, you are asked to wait outside they serve you. Still open during tier 3. The price is fair for the amount of food you get, also the aesthetics in the bakery itself are top notch.

Delicious food at very good prices! Lots of healthy vegetarian and vegan options. The sourdough base pizzas and sandwiches are great but the mini-cannolis are definitely the best menu item.

Enjoyed a quick lunch here during a trip into Nottingham. The staff were lovely and friendly and the food was great, all set in a nice little cafe. The vegetable focaccias are huge and scrummy, and the spicy cheese and vegetable mezzalunas are delicious. The staff were very accommodating and made us a special plain cheese mezzaluna for the kids which they really enjoyed.

Had outside catering delivered for a corporate event. Service was fabtastic and the all the platters were amazing. Very different to the usual catering spread from other catering companies.

Had a delicious vegan sandwich /toastie.. As a vegan from born i was delightfully surprised at how delicious it was. Will definitely return again when visiting Nottingham. Great staff/service too.. Warm and welcoming vibes.. What more could one ask for. <3
