Two Magpies, Blakeney in North Norfolk

I’m sorry to say that I just spent 22 minutes queuing at the Two Magpies Bakery in Blakeney because it seemed to be very understaffed. The very nice lady taking orders took 15 minutes before deciding she might need some help. Meanwhile the queue had got even longer than it already was. I’m a Two Magpies fan but you’re not getting this aspect right and your prices should support sufficient staffing. Please.

Very expensive but we were prepared to pay above average for something good. However, my Croque Monsieur had been pre-cooked then warmed up, with emphasis on the 'warmed'. I was unhappy about eating it at that temperature so asked for it to be heated to 'piping hot'. It came back hot but the ham was hard, brown and curled up at the edges. The taste was pretty bad, and I thought £8.50 was very steep for what was essentially a ham and cheese sandwich. I would have liked to try the carrot cake, but at £6.50 for a relatively small slice, I decided to save the money. The drinks weren't much better either as my latte was no more than lukewarm. As for the staff, I agree with many of the other reviewers about the rudeness of the staff. I can only speak about the girl who served us, but she was enough to put me off going back there.

In a lovely spot on the quay. Very busy on a September Monday morning, no space inside so we sat outside. The coffee was gorgeous, the cakes and pastries looked good but we resisted. The older lady who took our order was friendly, quite a wait for 2 takeaway coffees but not a problem on our holiday.

There are a few ‘Two Magpies’ cafe’s in the area so we assume that they are part of a chain. We did not have a great experience in this one. The staff appeared to be tired, stressed and irritable. We were told that the sit down area had table service. The rather grumpy waitress spilt hot tea on the table, and then milk into the cutlery caddie, which she then removed and did not replace. We waited for a food order and were then told to ‘go look ourselves and order at the till’. It would have been much faster and a deal more pleasant if we could have ordered and collected our stuff to take to a table! The toilet was closed, and we were told that ‘people steal the plugs (I assume that they mean the sink plugs) so we just close it! In any event, not a great experience. I hope that they can de-stress the staff and get them a bit more rest time. Great location though, and the food was OK.

Loved the food and lovely staff!! Particular shout out to Jonah - fab coffee! Loved my brownie too. Lovely place to sit and relax on a sunny day!

Had a mid morning coffee and after seeing their range of available foods, we decided to return and buy food for a takeaway lunch, of the excellent smoked salmon bagels and the delicious carrot and walnut cake. Both definitely didn't disappoint. Very pleased with the packaging too.

It baffles me why they can’t sort out a system to serve people at a normal pace. It took fifteen minutes to serve the three orders ahead of us as the older lady at the till was making people wait whilst she watched the younger girl bag the orders. Magpies reallly needs to sort out their ordering system, it’s been slow at other locations but this was excruciatingly slow and we nearly walked out when we saw her tell people to wait whilst she watched the girl. The only thing that kept us was the spicy Moroccan roll.

Terrible coffee High prices (£4 for a very poorly made take away cappuccino) Fantastically rude staff. Avoid at all costs.

PLEASE MAKE SURE THAT YOU ASK IF YOUR CAKES SCONES OR PASTRIES are F R E S H !! My scone was at least a day old. Understand it rained on Sunday but no excuse. I will ask next visit if the goods are fresh.

We had coffee and cake here on our last day of the holiday . I have tasted nothing like the cakes here - I'm 66 and I can honestly say they are thee best cakes I have ever had. We bought some to take home too. Divine ! We tried the cherry Bakewell , baklava cake and the Eccles cake. We want to return to Norfolk and this is one of the reasons why! Outstanding food and service .

Brilliant new location! I’m already a fan of Two Magpies, but this beautiful setting tops them all. One of the best views in England with excellent bakery and delicious hot chocolate.

We’ve been to a few of the other magpie cafes and never had a problem but I wish I had read the last review on here before we visited on easter bank holiday Monday. The staff were rude from the offset, they didn’t bring a child’s menu over even though they could see we had our son with us. The food was poor quality and for the cost of the meal it really felt like a waste of money. None of us enjoyed it. Our coffees were cold as they stood waiting to be brought over for ages before the waitress brought them to us. We asked for some tap water but it never arrived. When we went over to ask for it the waitress didn’t apologise. She got us the water and brought it over in dirty glasses. In fact the cafe was pretty dirty. It really was a disappointing experience and we won’t be visiting again.

The answer is 'when it is made by this restaurant' . Let me explain, look up on their website and they state clearly that their breakfast/brunch menu is served until 11.00 am. Now most people would take this at face value but here in this establishment turn up at 10.15, wait in a queue and then ten minutes later Mr. Big the manager will rather brusquely tell you there's no chance of food as they have 40 minutes worth of orders and by that time brunch will be over. Not entirely happy I politely pointed out the flaws in their website information and enquired quite how customers were to judge what time to arrive in order to qualify for food, pointing out that generally a stated deadline refers to last chance to order and not guess how long the waiting list is. His reply, made while he slouched across the counter propped on his elbows was a patronising mixture of contempt and superiority and consisted of comments like 'So? how do you mean ? and your point being? when actually he knew exactly my point and just wanted to be clever. Looking around I wonder if this place isn't punching above it's weight, clearly the kitchen facilities and it's staffing is undersized and glancing about the restaurant the limited seating consists mainly of cafeteria style tables for 8 or 10 people. so maybe we had a lucky get out, well Two Magpies are lucky aren't they? unless you want food that is !

I’ve been a regular customer across most sites in North Norfolk for coffees and pastries which are fab, Thought we’d treat ourselves to a cheeky fry up this weekend. Mushrooms and tomatoes undercooked and tasteless. Their own take on baked beans were luke warm and obviously reheated. Bacon looked like cheap processed stuff (dog loved it). It was poor, stick to the pastries!

We called in to the Two Magpies at Blakeney for lunch. So impressed! Food was amazingly delicious but what made our visit was our waitress. She was fabulous, bubbly, extremely helpful, interested and cheerful. Honestly she was just lovely, wish I had looked for her name…. She needs recognition!

Visited for breakfast on my birthday. It was the best cooked breakfast we have had. Homemade baked beans, and sourdough toast to die for. Excellent location as well. A good reason to return to Blakeney.

After a long walk this little place was fab for a coffee and freshly squeezed orange juice. Some lovely looking cakes which I managed to avoid but looked delicious. Dog friendly, lovely views and a really good cup of coffee. Will definitely go again 😂

Ideally situated right at the front of the Quay and carpark A very welcome stop off point for the beautiful circular walk especially during the winter months when there isn't much open. Very yummy display of cakes and plenty of choice to eat either inside or takeaway. Dog friendly. A massive shout out to Sophie who went above and beyond when we left our rucksack and contents outside the bakery and then travelled home which is 2 hours away! I called on the off chance we had left it there and she had taken it in. After great communication she packaged and posted back. Thank you so much Sophie. You are an absolute star and clearly a great employee!!

Great coffee and hot chocolate. Had sausage rolls yesterday at Wells cafe and Eccles cake which were bang on.,purchased a rye loaf to try and sure it will tasty ! High quality baked goodies and drinks.

Amazing place . Brilliant staff and cakes , pastries etc all fab . Feel like any bad reviews are unmerited . Anyone who works front of house in hospitality knows how hard it is pleasing everyone . Especially during very busy periods . Staff doing a great job . Worthwhile keeping in mind these guys dont make up the prices . You dont shoot the messenger . Well done all .

Watch out for hidden extras which are not listed on there board. Ordered a couple of drinks with extras offered adding 30% to the item list without a mention of additional price. Misleading menu with rude staff when questioned, looked at each other awkwardly and then replied “well it’s not going to be free is it”. Drinks are ok. Wouldn’t come here again.

We really enjoyed our visit for a light lunch and would award 4.5 if possible, the soup and parsnip soup were excellent. Why rate 4 to 4.5 - service somewhat chaotic, only one toilet for a very busy place. Great atmosphere - very tempting cakes and pastries - excellent location

Visited here after our circular walk in the area. A very popular cafe we had hot chocolate with an amaretto biscuit and gluten free bacon sandwich. Both were excellent such that we bought 2 more amaretto biscuits to take away. Staff were very helpful and friendly and we would definitely recommend.

I love this place. Perfect location by the harbour in Blakeney. Great pastries, coffee and good selection of brunch/lunch items. Had the freshly made soup and cheese toastie. Coffee excellent. Good seating inside and out. Full of dog walkers, walkers and families. Lovely atmosphere and good service.

Wow, this small bakery in Blakeney packs a sensational punch when it comes to delectable sweet & savoury treats. All good things come to those that wait, prepare to queue (its very popular & deservedly so), and you will not be disappointed. Both food and service impeccable. Rarely do I find a bakery this good that I wished I lived more locally! I will have to make do with trying to replicate their cook book recipes at home many many mile away.

Popped in for two sausage sarnies… but we’d missed breakfast service. We didn’t ask but the server asked the chef if she could still make them … Much appreciated .. great rolls absolutely stuffed with very tasty sausages, great friendly service. Thank you, we’ll be back

Have been to all the Two Magpies establishments over various holidays and was pleased to see one had opened in Blakeney when we checked into our nearby holiday cottage. We had three visits over the week, sat outside with a great view over the quay and marshes. Coffees good, lots of choice of delicious pastries, and staff were friendly. My only little gripe is that each stamp on their loyalty card is for the visit, rather than for each coffee you have, in complete contrast with other cafes in the area. Small niggle, however, as food, drink and view all very good.

Ok, credit where credit is due, the array of savory and sweet treats is superb. In fairness to the Two Magpies, had I ATE, I am sure I'd have given it a better rating. In fact, if you're thinking of going g for lunch here: do. But, If you just wants. Takeaway coffee.... Don't bother. Without doubt, today was the LONGEST I've ever been made to wait for four coffees. Approximately 20 minutes? Zero apology or recognition for the wait I was given, but staff were working hard and earnestly so I wouldn't say it wasnt rudeness, Rather total obliviousness and focus on the next order. They do very good business judging by all those seated and I am glad the Two Magpies is thriving, but I guarantee I won't be back. As for the coffees?... Average considering they were charging over three quid per drink.

We visited with family and friends for breakfast. Mildly cool coffee came first after about 15 mins. A long 40...50 minutes later came breakfast with no acknowledgement or apology⁸ of it being late. For a bill of £90 I cant say I would rush back....
