Only came here for Sunday lunch...what a disappointment. To pay £21 for 1 course (or £37 for 3!!) and get hard roasties, processed meat and just 2 different vegs was a rip off. Most other places in the town were booked up, but not this place...now we know why.

Came here for dinner as a group of 4 friends who hadn’t seen each other for ages. Unhurried and friendly service with seriously first rate food - the sea bass was delicious and the chilli and lime leaf broth it came with worked so well to give it a bit of a kick. Every single meal was outstanding - including the halloumi vegetarian option. Deserts were fantastic too - the sticky toffee pudding was the special and it certainly was! Will be sure to eat here again next time we visit Wells. Thanks for a lovely evening.

We have been going to The Crown about twice a year for the last ten years and this is the first time I have been disappointed. We had a pre lunch drink in the bar and was very surprised at the sharp way the restaurant manager spoke to a member of the bar staff who ask a question. Lunch was a little disappointing the vegetables had been pre cooked and then flashed in oil when warmed so had lost their fresh flavour. The potatoes had either been on the same hot plate as fish, or put in the serving dish with a spoon used to serve fish because they tasted of fish. Absolutely not an experience I have ever had at The Crown. The final surprise was that we were charged £2 for the bread roll I asked for with my starter. Sorry The Crown this Wes definitely an off day for you

Came here after visiting for many years and some great experiences in the past. It’s quite pricey, which we don’t mind as a treat when we’re on holiday. However we were disappointed. The service started off well but near the end of the meal it felt like we’d been forgotten about. The staff were polite but we feel we’re lacking management or direction. The food in particular was the most disappointing - the Brie starter was undercooked with little flavour, pork terrine chewy, yorkshire pudding with the roast not really edible, all dishes not well seasoned, and generally lacking flavour. This isn’t the high standard we expected and remember from previous visits and doesn’t justify the price point. Couldn’t recommend after such a disappointing experience.

On my birthday we took our family for Sunday Lunch to celebrate. Our grandson a picky eater loved his homemade burger in a roll with peas and real chips. He had lashings of butter on crisp rolls too which he loved. My husband had a wonderful generous roast lamb with fresh veg and roast potatoes and a huge crisp Yorkshire pud. My son loved his cream of mushroom soup and croutons though the portion was small, my chicken and ham hock terrine with dried crispy toast was succulent. We were all well pleased with our meal and appreciated the two courses for £28. A lovely celebration. Thank you

The Crown is tucked away in a quiet part of Wells away from the harbour. We didn't stay over (hence the score for the rooms) but simply enjoyed the lovely food the place had to offer. Menu wasn't wide but there was definitely enough choice for even the choosiest person. Starter was terrine followed by the lamb which was beautifully cooked. The special cod was a bit dry but my wife loved her steak and chips. Four stars reflects the slightly lacklustre service and lack of checking in by the waiting staff, but overall for great food in a cosy friendly ambience define to recommend for Wells.

Dinner out on our first night in N Norfolk, across the road from our Airbnb. Nice welcome, good friendly staff who were knowledgeable about their food and wine, and generally wanted you to enjoy your evening. Great, interesting wine list with loads of choice of by the glass wines, fantastic - well done, owners! Food was good and the choices interesting. The crab bread & butter savoury pudding got a big thumbs up, but my asparagus starter was incredibly small - six short spears of Norfolk sprue, coming in at just under £2 each... and the tempura tiger prawns at £2.25 each as appetisers were also little. The (delicious) lamb rump that two of the party had was described as served with new potatoes, which it was, but just 3 halves under the meat so easy to overlook. Other portions were good - the chicken/tagliatelle was tasty and big, ditto the haddock goujons, which would have fed two! We're not in the 'if it's not hanging off the plate, it's a swizz' camp, but it still did feel a bit of a mixed bag.

There wasn’t a table free in the competitors venue. So, we walked by and headed to the Crown. Lots of cars outside and no doubt a scrabble to park in any season, let alone March. Inside was immediately warm. The bar had a few guests within it and the bar was manned by one team member that was more than able to cope. Even with the occasional episodes created by a crashing till. We found a seat by the fire with the angry sign reading: “Do not touch the fire”. A shame really as a roaring fire (or any fire) would have been just the ticket here, even beyond the obvious warmth that was already present. We disrobed and headed to the bar we dodged our way past other guests that pickled the pathways around the randomly (if heavily) populated furniture “showroom” and made our order. Now, I personally did not order the first round and therefore was unaware of the pricing structure here at the Crown but I did get the second round and I am currently plotting a significant “job” where I can repay the Bulgarian national debt that was needed to buy two Guinness, a Baileys, a coffee and a 175ml wine and soda. (£35ish!!). You have been in this scenario where one tries to work backwards the Individual pricing… for the sake of time, letters and sanity.. I will let you do that. Whilst I plan the job regardless! In the bookcase opposite I note a tv screen that shows a rotation of arty “foodporn”. Some local pictures festooned in sepia and some very old advertising that frankly wouldn’t be allowed in the modern day. I am not sure I saw the relevance of all the slides but it filled the time as I stretched out the drinks to avoid the third abuse of one of our money holders. The toilets were clean, the decorations were good and entertaining (even the silk map above the urinal showing the local area and its war style access points). Some lights were out in the closed restaurant. I suggest a lack of 50ps for the meter were the cause. I can only assume the till was full of notes and card receipts based on my own short reconnaissance. Also, if you charge these prices make sure everything is perfect. Tables cleared immediately, chairs reset, bathrooms checked regularly and much more besides. Then the price pales a little against perceived value. Blah, blah… Hey look, we liked our visit and may have stayed longer if the pricing was inviting. However, that’s the crux of these modern times isn’t it? The venue “may” be great, the fayre “could” be stunning but if the abiding perception is about the price then something has obviously gone wrong, hasn’t it? Maybe next time..

We visit Norfolk regularly but haven’t been to the crown for a couple of years. I must say it didn’t disappoint, service good and atentive without being intrusive. We were a party of 4 and were impressed with the variety of both the starters and main courses on offer. We were also pleasantly surprised with the quality of the dishes that were delivered. Really good meals had by all. The only observation I would make as both starters and mains are quite large, not over facing, but meant none of us were able to have a pudding. Disappointing for us and maybe a lost revenue opportunity. For the crown. That aside I would wholeheartedly recommend visiting as a couple or a family.

Although it took a while to get anyone’s attention or any acknowledgement despite standing at the bar to tell them we had arrived for our 7.30pm booking, when we did, the staff were friendly and showed us to our table. We sat in the dog friendly section which was nicely decorated, with low and relaxing lighting and an appropriate volume of music. Not an enormous menu but a nice selection of dishes which we were happy with. We both chose the Crayfish Cesar Salad which was a nice portion size and one the chicken with tagliatelle with a cream mushroom and redcurrant sauce and the other haddock goujons. Both dishes were delicious and we both thoroughly enjoyed them. The sauce with the chicken was just divine albeit a little on the thin side. Ideally a little more tagliatelle would have made me happier to soak up this gorgeous sauce, but the staff happily brought some lovely fresh chunky granary bread. Sadly, we won’t have time to return to try some of the other dishes on offer this trip but certainly will on our next visit. The staff were friendly and a lady who we assumed was the manager was very friendly, full of personality and shared loads of info on the hotel, about staying there in the future and even about the ingredients of the gorgeous chicken sauce. Talking to other diners who were staying at the hotel, all had nothing but praise for the food each evening and their stay there. We were really impressed. Had a lovely evening and will be back. Thank you for such a nice evening.

We recently spent 2 nights at The Crown while on an independent bicycle trip around Norfolk. I was looking for a boutique hotel with a modern decor and The Crown delivered. The public spaces are more historic, but the room (Copper Bath Double in adjacent building) was exactly what we wanted -- totally modern, tastefully furnished, private patio (with great chairs for reading/lounging), a large, up-to-date bathroom with large walk-in shower. Being off the main road at the end of the village green meant that the room was very quiet, even with windows and patio door open. The room was serviced daily (which doesn't always happen post-covid), staff were very friendly. We had an excellent dinner in the dining room one night and two lovely cooked-to-order breakfasts (with buffet of cold items) both mornings. We'd highly recommend the hotel and we'd stay again if ever in Wells.

We had 3 nights in Wells and ate here every night. Food is excellent, staff are friendly and prices reasonable. The ambience is cosy and welcoming with a log fire in the bar. We particularly enjoyed the vegetarian risotto and the Friday Fizz and Fish....

Cancelled our booking for a special meal on the last night of our holiday with 4 hours notice despite the booking being made the previous day. Busy Friday evening so unable to book anywhere else. Thanks for ruining the end of our holiday.

It’s okay, bit pricey, service is nothing exceptional. Been here a few times, but feel it doesn’t do anything to make us return

This is a lovely, characterful pub/restaurant and we were lucky enough to dine here on a recent visit to Wells. We started with sharing dishes of oysters and tempura prawns. The oysters were delicious but the prawns were out of this world, being meaty with...

We went to The Crown, as Wells, in October, is winding down. The local restaurants in the evening close early and many not open. In the daytime, it is a hive of activity. Nevertheless, in the evening, unless you check closing times and book in...

We have eaten here many times and on this visit we all left very disappointed. Menu was very limited for a dinner menu. Didn’t cater well for GF or DF and had no oat milk (even the cafes in WNTS have oat milk!) Used to...

We had the seafood platter and a couple of ales on a rainy day. Beautiful food, in a gorgeous setting of a restaurant. Some of the best salmon I've ever had. Have already recommended to many!

Just returned from delicious Sunday lunch at the Crown Hotel in Wells next the Sea. A range of options , well presented and cooked and also accommodated a request for a roast chicken lunch, which wasn't on the menu. Charming service and reasonably priced. Would definitely recommend.

The lightest freshest fish goujons ever! Really well cooked with stacked chips and nicely dressed leaves. Poached salmon dish also lovely. Highly recommended. Service friendly but not very organised. Eventually given menus but no follow up for over 20 minutes. We were hungry and asked if we could order. No bill presented, just a payment machine brought to us (we asked for the bill to review). This needs sharpening up but the food is great and good value.

The Crown is situated in The Buttlands, a lovely green 10 minutes walk from the harbour. We decided on the 3 courses for £30. Our roast beef dinner was nearly as good as mine! The beef cut like butter and the Yorkshire puddings were enormous. Lovely surroundings and friendly staff.

The manager was extremely rude, and considering the The Crown has a substantially big restaurant and was empty she turned away a family with young children. If she at least had the decency to be polite about not having the capacity to serve a small family we would have been happier to leave without a fuss.We are now in ‘The Globe Inn’ just located 50m down from The Crown which that has a better menu. The food and service is amazing so don’t waste your time with ‘The Crown’.

Four of us had a wonderful meal here last night. We had all had three courses and every dish served was incredible. This pub is top notch and leagues above other pubs and restaurants in Wells and the surrounding areas. The service was brilliant and the staff were welcoming and friendly. Can't believe that this is the first time that we have discovered The Crown having stayed in Wells many times before. Enjoyed it so much that we booked again before we left. Highly recommended - you will not be disappointed!

Called in here today and had two hot chocolates made with real chocolate and two mince pies There drink regular is tiny And you may as well of been drinking dishwater talk about skimp on the main ingredient (chocolate it's in the name ) The mince pies were over priced and stuck to the case on the bottom would have had a nicer taste experience buying the cheapest supermarket box of mince pies and saved myself a few quid and had a better taste experience So folks there you have it overpriced and poor ingredients served here tometoday

The food was fine, not amazing. Clearly prepared in advance and then reheated as it came out so fast. Starters arrived before our drinks! Nice setting, dog friendly and warm welcome.

Had lovely meal today. Staff very attentive. Happy atmosphere. Food piping hot. Definitely recommend. It is really warm. And cosy. We come once a month throughout the year, and also have a lovely outside eating area which is great on hot days. The deals they have are so Good. Cheaper don't mean smaller portions. As all over 60 this is a great place to have a get together.

Myself, my husband and our 2 children had dinner Friday night (booked a table ahead of time). Great choice of food with specials. Lovely setting with all the Christmas decorations. Generous portions and staff were friendly.
