We enjoyed our night at this well run, clean and friendly hotel. The three course evening meal was freshly prepared and delicious. Our room was spotless and well presented. We both are surprised this is only a two star rated hotel, as our experience exceeded many four stars we’ve stayed in. Our breakfast was again delicious. The staff are all attentive and couldn’t do enough for us. It has ample parking and a beautiful rear garden with seating. If we are in the region again, we would wholeheartedly head for The Tumbling Weir, Thank~you

We had a lovely stay here. Whilst the hotel decor is a bit dated, everything was exceptionally clean, tidy and well equipped. Breakfast was very good and the Owner was very welcoming and and offered great tips on local walks. Would recommend.

We only spent one night on this our first visit to the hotel but everything was of the highest standard - excellent service, warm welcome from the proprietor, REALLY comfortable beds and a breakfast with super fresh produce. Must return with more time to try the restaurant on our next visit. Thank you!

Nice meal but decor and service seems quite dated. All the other diners seemed to be in their 70's and it was VERY quiet. I had pork belly which was cooked perfectly and service was prompt and friendly. It's a bit off the beaten track at the end of a new housing development of retirement flats. Plenty of parking.

We did not stay here, only called in to meet friends, including a vegetarian, for Sunday lunch. There is an interesting approach to the hotel, we just spotted a small sign directing us into what appeared to be a modern housing estate. Further larger signs guided us through a building site, which was shut on Sunday, to a large very well laid out car park. Our welcome was friendly, and we had a leisurely Sunday lunch. That is the only menu at lunch-time on a Sunday, at other times various other menus are available. All looked interesting. The Sunday lunch was traditional, and very well cooked and presented. Portions were sensible, we were not overwhelmed with plate after plate of vegetables. Service was very friendly and helpful, but a little undertrained. We all liked it.

My first visit to this restaurant. Went for Easter Sunday lunch which was excellent. And at £22.50 for 3 courses was good valve. Could not fault anything. This is a traditional style hotel and the decor reflects this, carpets not wood flooring, lovely crisp white table cloths and napkins. Can recommend and w will be visiting again.

I stayed in this hotel last week, I arrived, after spending an hour trying to find it as it has a temporary entrance which is unlit and poorly signed to be told I am too late to eat, at 8.15 and as I had to leave at 8am on Friday morning I would not be able to have breakfast as it started at 7.45, The hostess was hostile and sarcastic about people not reading about the temporary entrance on the website. The tiny shower room was freezing cold and the room decor was tired. Host in the morning was friendly and helpful though.

The title tells you most of what you need to know. The only reservation was that, despite being scrupulously clean the room was a little tired in terms of decor. Service was excellent with the staff lively and keen to be helpful. Dinner and breakfast both excellent.

Booked this hotel through Trip Advisor. Friendly and helpful owners - he a good cook and she in charge of reception and housekeeping. A good combination. Food was really good but not available for the whole of our stay. They managed our gluten free requirements with ease, including sausages at breakfast.

Lovely, freshly prepared lunch in a beautiful garden (it was a sunny day!) with very friendly service and reasonable prices. Tucked out of the way and something of an oasis. Will definitely revisit.

I stayed last night in room 2. This is a lovely room. I slept well on a comfortable double bed. The staff were friendly and helpful and told me about places to visit locally. I ate in the restaurant last night and for breakfast. The food was excellent. Beautifully cooked duck with cherry and star anise sauce. The desert of mint infused strawberries, brandy snap basket and clotted cream was delicious. I'd love to stay again.

Having drawn the short straw it fell to me to organise a black tie dinner for 42. From the start I was given every help down to seating plan and place cards. Special diet problems were dealt with efficiently and sensitively. On the evening the food was very good and I have to say that the service in all areas was the best I have experienced for and at this kind of event. The evening was a great success in large part due to the staff.

We had a table with a beautiful view into their gorgeous garden- good start already! Service was friendly as well as efficient. Mum in law really enjoyed her mother's day menu choice, too, which was fabulous! We all had really delicious meals though we could not manage their 3 courses plus hot drinks so we instead opted for just a starter, main and drinks. I am gluten free and my gluten free special diet was brilliantly catered for!! It is so good to go somewhere where they make it easy for you as many places say you can have this meal yet with no sauce to go with it or no this or no that, yet, not at the tumbling weir!! Their chef was just superb!! All 3 of us- me, hubby, & mum in law really loved our choices plus found them super tasty! There was a good atmosphere in the restaurant plus though it was full you could still hear your party talk! Thought it was very good value , too! Would definitely choose to go here again for another special occassion! Would highly recommend it to others, too!

A fantastic hotel but I have no idea how it is only 2-star. The room was very clean and warm, the bathroom was loaded with shower gels etc which you would expect from a higher rated hotel. The breakfast was lovely and there was plenty to eat. The only thing that stopped it being a 5/5 was the lack on beans with the full english!

We attended my partners sons RAF Christmas dinner here this evening which was £25 a head for three courses. Starter- butternut squash soup- served hot averagely tasteful, partner had Brie starter which you could not taste over the fried bread crumb covering, accompanied by fresh salad. Main course- thin slices of roast turkey could of been from a packet, thin sausage wrapped in bacon with grizzle, cold stuffing, delicious veg which I had seconds of to make up for leaving a lot of the above. Desert- profiteer roles were absolutely delicious and made up for the not so great starter and main, looked and tasted freshly made and with a gorgeous chocolate sauce. Water served throughout. Glass of red Shiraz from bar over £3 a glass which was palatable.

I visited with a group and had pre-ordered a prawn and lettuce sandwich with wholemeal bread. The sandwich consisted of two thin slices of what looked like supermarket sliced bread, with a totally tasteless filling. Tiny, wet, completely tasteless prawns with a small amount of mayonnaise which was so diluted by the water from the prawns that it dripped out of the sandwich like milk. The sandwich came with a small side salad which was OK, but for £5.50 this sandwich was atrocious. Beautiful garden, pleasant and efficient staff, but I would never eat here again.

I took my wife to the Weir for Mother's Day lunch, the restaurant was full so a good atmosphere. Greeting and service was good from the off, drinks were offered and served promptly. The fixed price menu offered a choice of 3 starters, mains and sweets and all of our choices were very good indeed. The food was well presented and extremely tasty, we thoroughly enjoyed our experience and will definitely be going back again. The only down side is the access to the car park from the main road, care is needed not to remove your wing mirrors.

I have eaten here many times with both large and small groups of people. The food is generally well presented and tasty if a bit unadventurous. The atmosphere can vary depending on how many people are there - if there are only a few then it is rather lacking but it is a good space for large groups where they will make their own ambience.

Large group of us .. 75 plus.. Xmas menu .£24 plus for a 3 course meal , one could have had that half the price. At a local pub..!Went to the bar for a glass of wine and was rudely told , I would not be served untill every one had their food..so by the time I got back to the table, food was cold and hardly no red cabbage left ... Food was very processed...No extensive wine list ! Waitress was so rude !

We visited the Riveria for lunch today, our first visit for 8 years and I have to say that I was very disappointed. I ordered cod and chips at a hotel next to the sea but I was given a piece of battered fish straight out of the "Bird's Eye" mould and not freshly cooked as I expected from a hotel of some repute. This was nowhere near the quality I enjoy regularly from my local Wetherspoons!

Great venue for lunch, always busy, good food at reasonable prices. Until today, prices have risen, the place was half empty, the food still good but not exceptional so why the price hike? My breaded plaice with chips, peas and tartare sauce was £16.99! It was nice enough, not outstanding and available elsewhere in Sidmouth for a lot less. If they want more profit and less customers I think this approach will work, we will think twice before returning as there are many other places to eat locally that offer better value for similar food.

Staying in the local area we decided to meet up with other family members for an evening meal and catch-up. Knowing this pub does food from Wednesday through to Sunday lunchtime decided this would be a good place to visit. We booked and arrived just on opening time and was met with a very welcoming greeting by the bar person. Once we placed our order, in a very short space of time the starter course arrived, and on completion of this and table cleared, again the main meals arrived well presented and hot. The pricing was well within most budgets and with the specials board there is a good variety to choose from concidering the size of the village. Definitely on future visits this is a place on the list for food.

Excellent ĺunch (ploughman's) during a recent stay in Colyton. The Kingfisher is welcoming, friendly and good value for money.
