... but my wife & I were craving a cooling after-lunch treat on a warm June day. So we each ordered a single scoop of Cornish farm-made Roskilly's ice cream in small sugar cones, Salt Caramel for my wife and White Chocolate & Raspberry for me. They each had good flavour, though I'd rate the creaminess as average for premium ice cream. But considering the prompt & friendly counter service and the attractiveness of the small store, our visit to Truly Scrumptious earned a 4 Circle rating and two thumbs up recommending a refreshment stop for other visitors to East Looe.

We have visited twice already during our holiday: once for ice creams when it was warm and for hot coffee and great cakes when it was wild and windy! The friendly service was excellent both times. The ice cream was very delicious with interesting flavours and the scoops a generous size. (No bright colours either!) Can’t wait to go back to try the gooseberry and the orange mascarpone.

We found this place by chance as we fancied cake and the cake shop we had been to before didn’t have any nice looking cakes. Truly Scrumptious has their cakes displayed in the window so we were swayed to go in. We weren’t disappointed, the cake was delicious, very reasonably priced so much so that we had caramel shortbread too, which was truly yummy. Plus we’ve been back today for more cake which yet again was delicious 😋

Looked on website and saw it was closed so was pleasantly surprised to find it open when we went into Looe on one of our first days of our annual holiday. They are only doing takeaway but that was fine as we could still enjoy a cream tea and some delicious toffee cheesecake and a brownie. Do pop in and support this cafe in what must have been and still is a very difficult time.

Not very friendly people but cakes and tea were nice so we decided to visit again on Friday...Friday was a very very wet day and the cafe was shut!!Why?It's Peak Season!Unless there was a good reaon to be closed(in which case a sign should be on the door)this smacks of 'can't be bothered because of the weather' another local cafe said they do their best business on a cold wet day so no idea why the cafe was shut. Also 5pm is a bit of an exaggeration of closing time, they are usually clearing up just after 4pm.

Came here as my wife was drawn by the savoury tea as she doesn’t like cream tea. It was full when we arrived and the man working there told us grumpily they were full. We waited and a table came available, the young waitress was very nice and we ordered a savoury tea (cheese scone, cheese and tea) and a cream tea. Both were very nice and just the right size but I did feel the scones lacked a homemade feel.

My wife and I called in to 'Truly Scrumptious' for a coffee and a Hot Chocolate drink, but what really tempted us in was the "Bailey's Cheesecake's" in the window... The lovely couple behind the counter appeared to be the owners. They were lovely and polite... They made a great coffee and chocolate drink, and, the homemade cheesecake was absolutely amazing.

With a good 40 mins to spare before the car park ticket ran out, we were tempted in by the cakes in the window. It looked a little clinical downstairs (not difficult to make it look welcoming) and it wasn't obvious there was seating upstairs. We ordered and paid then sat and waited, and waited and waited. It didn't look busy, but we waited 20 mins to be brought someone else's order. Then we waited again and eventually our cakes arrived. then we were brought the wrong coffee so had to wait again for that to be corrected. The staff were unfriendly as though it was our fault. The cakes were huge; too big for the UK's expanding waistline and tasted far too sweet and sickly. I think they were bought in and really were too much of a not very good thing. I couldn't eat mine because it was so cloying, sweet and sickly. We ended up not being able to relax because of the excessive waiting time and the car park ticket expiring but at least the coffee was okay when they eventually got it right.

When my wife asked what was in each smoothie the assistant read out the ingredients almost begrudgingly - I don't think she quite got that the sign is too far back for anyone to read!!!Tea was nice. Good scone. Smoothies were quite nice, used a Projuice system where they buy in dosed quantities of ingredients. Cafe on the small side. Not sure if there was an upstairs? So decent refreshments. Called in for a pasty with my wife on Saturday afternoon whilst on holiday here in a neighbouring village, Bolingey. Unfortunately, they had sold out of all pasties but........ fortunately as a second choice. I had the best chickenTikka baguette I have ever had, anywhere! Plenty of deliciously spiced chicken tikka meat with mint mayo, with loads of fresh lettuce, red onion, tomato and lettuce which was also delicious served in a fresh baguette. I had a fantastic Americano too and together it was a truly excellent lunch. To be honest I enjoyed my lunch so much I can't even remember what my wife had for hers! Must've been good though as there were no scraps left for me! Called in again on Sunday for a quick bite but it was very busy and I had to give in to my hunger and walk to a neighbouring cafe! I will definitely call back in before we leave for home later this week. Had a great chat with (Dave?) the proprietor whilst we had lunch there on Saturday and he is a very personable guy.

Early Saturday evening we decided to give Sanders a try. The car park over the road is free after 6 pm so it was easy to access. The eating area was clean and well lit. My wife opted for the “Special” which was Sea Bass, whilst I took the cod & chips. We declined the Drinks List and the Cocktails Menu. My fried cod was very good, the chips I found a little dry. My wife found the Sea Bass served with salad and chips in a bucket very good. The Bill: £38.94 which was fair.

The food was excellent and service very efficient but there was very little atmosphere. We booked here for old time’s sake but the attitude towards customers is very poor: 1. We were obliged to give our credit card details so a £15 ‘no show’ charge could be applied, despite re-confirming via the app that we would be coming. 2. We were told before we’d even arrived that we would need to vacate our table 1h40m after our 7pm booked time. 3. At the end of our evening, a 10% service charge was added to our bill without any mention or thank you. We were wondering from the very start do you really want our custom or not? Despite it being a busy Saturday night in St Ives, there were only 2-4 tables occupied in a large restaurant the whole time we were there. It’s a shame because the food and setting of the restaurant are superb. I think ‘no bookings’ is more of a problem than ‘no shows’ so maybe you need to review your policies to be more in line with your competitors and a lot more welcoming to your customers.
