Definitely biased as a Pirate fan myself but this was well worth a trip to Penzance just for this experience! The staff were lovely and the food was a real nostalgia trip.

Very polite and mindful young staff team, made us feel welcome, made right a small mistake with our order, and was honest about wait times on a busy day. Place gets pretty packed on account of the decent food and fun pirate-y decor - suitable for kids and adults. Food was okay - I wouldn't shout about the Cornish hot dog, nor would I about the milkshake. I wouldn't order them again, as plenty other more tantalising options are on the menu. The nachos were good. We were too stuffed from the above to try one of the desserts but they looked great. I will go here again, it's a business that deserves the custom and is presented so well with such a friendly team at the front.

The service was great and very attentive, but the food was disappointing. A tiny bit of battered fish (mostly batter) on a pile of fries and a soggy burger bun in a chicken burger. Disappointing for the price. Given the location you expect decent fish and chips. Excellent decoration but the quality of food is poor.

Called in here for breakfast before my long journey home - great service and food - open 0900 to 1500 Monday to Thursday, Friday & Saturday 0900 to 1600 and Sunday 100 to 1400 - food was great and also bought something for me to take away and saw me for my journey home

First visit to The Smugglers Den. Impressed with the staff who were friendly, attentive, and informative. Portions were generous, and the food was well cooked and tasty. Wouldn't hesitate go again.

The whole place is great. The toilets could be more cleaner and empty more. The Smugglers Den has great food and atmosphere.

There was nice wall paintings, the food was delicious and we hadn't waited for a long time. The toilet was clean

This food Caffè has a promising look about it. Cod, chips and mushy peas advertised outside for £12+. So, I expected a fair meal for that price with a proper cod portion. Sadly, the fish was supermarket standard, the chips tasted like oven chips and the mushy peas out of a wholesalers tin. The food was hot but came out on cold plates! This is such a shame for a fish and chips restaurant so close to one of the greatest fish ports in the uk. Newlyn. I expected more and was disappointed. Service was excellent. The atmosphere was great, too. Food Quality (not the cooking) and the cold plates... let the place down.

Previously a burger from Smugglers Den made it to my top 10, but the burger I had to today from Smugglers Den ranks as one of the worst, plus my wife’s chicken burger didn’t fare any better, it was extremely dry. The fries and onion rings were fine but the burger patty was so burnt and hard it tasted like charcoal. We bagged the two thirds of the burger and half the chicken — we tried to give it to our dog, even he turned his nose up. We decided not to complain as the staff didn’t seem to be that interested either, it seemed like they would rather be elsewhere and we were intruding. We got the impression it would have been pointless in any case. A pity as I was hoping for the memorable burger I had there in the past.

My wife and I had a meal here I had a full smugglers my wife had a kraken breakfast I can honestly say it was 1 of the best breakfasts we have had in a very long time we would wholly recommend

Booked a table for 6 people for Christmas Eve lunch time. Got there 20mins early to have a coffee before rest of family arrived. It was closed no one around no phone call to tell us. Very bad service.

We booked a table for 6 of us on Christmas Eve for lunch with family. When we arrived it was closed. We had no notification/message saying that they were not going to be open. Some of our family had travelled for nearly an hour to meet up with us for lunch. There were no signs on the door saying they were not opening…somebody was inside but did not answer the door or the phone when I tried to ring. Not happy and will definitely not be going back.

Brilliant service from greeting as we arrived, shown to a table and given menu's. Order taken, and drinks arrived promptly. Delicious food with good portions. Great atmosphere catering to all ages. Love the pirate theme ☠️ 🏴‍☠️ 🦜 😍

we ordered 2 portions of chips, charged us for 2 and we ended up only getting one, after half an hour of waiting (it wasn't busy) i went up and asked where our second portion of chips were, they said "you only ordered one." which we didn't and we payed for 2 and we know we did. they forced us to pay AGAIN! the chips arrived quick after and were cold and burnt. we told them multiple times we payed and my friend showed proof of her missing money. UNBELIEVABLE!! I AM FURIOUS!! MY FRIENDS ARE FURIOUS!! been charged twice for below average chips.

Lush food, friendly staff, love the decor!

The portion sizes were massive! The service was good, the place was decorated very well but I felt a bit uncomfortable with older people (I'm going to guess regulars) looking over disapprovingly for some reason.

It's the place to come if you want to experience a Pirate / Smuggler atmosphere. Plenty of models,pictures and information. But the main event is the food. Fantastic burgers and other items to choose from. Staff are very friendly and efficient. We'll worth a visit...its in the heart of Penzance- where else!!

Was going to order food but told 30 minute wait despite not being busy so we ordered two coffees, one being a large decaf latte and the other a standard flat white . Charged £8.10 !!! Beware before you visit as the food prices seem reasonable. Don't get stung. Should change their name to Pirates Cafe !

Walked in for quick bite with kids but before we even sat down we were barked at that there was a 35 min wait for food. Decided to stay... waited 10 mins before anyone even brought menus then a further 10 to have our order taken in which time the wait time had gone up to 45 mins when it was quieter than when we arrived. Staff were all just stood around chatting, not what I would call busy at all. Didn't stay for food, two very unhappy kids!

Every time I've been to smugglers den the food has been outstanding and all the staff have been friendly and professional. I always recommend this place and it's why I always return to it 10/10

Hygiene. None. Food was inedible. Toilets incredibly dirty. A pirate wouldn't eat or drink here. Addendum: the entire family had to throw up in the evening. Never again.

Food and drinks decent enough. Toilets are horid and to be shared, female/male. Staff are very friendly, polite, and helpful. The hotdog was a 5 star, but the wings are about 1 star. They were soaked in oil and overdone and very hairy 😅

A welcome break from shopping on a rainy day in Penzance.

This was our second visit, after our first we vowed to return the next time we were in Cornwall. We both chose the Pulled Pork Bap as we'd had this before. The only change they had made was to the cheese, which was a slice of very mature cheddar and it was perfect. When you try this you need to leave the chips until last as you will not finish your meal otherwise!

Wouldn't go back. Food.served cold to my partner and mine came out 10 mins later after ordering at the same time

The family and I had a day out in Penzance and had lunch at the Smugglers Den. It was busy at the time, but the waitress advised us of the wait time, and there is a board advising the same during busy times. Well worth the wait. The dishes were hearty, the prices were reasonable and the service was great. We are already planning a trip back, since we're only an hour away. We love themed restaurants, and especially love pirates...so, it was fun. Not as many "Aaargggs" as we had hoped for, but our family made up for it through our conversations. Overall, fun and good food.

My favourite place to eat in penzance came here last year and here again now this food is outstanding and there atmosphere of pirates and top notch service defiantly will be back again.

My son and I come here quite often now as it’s his favourite place to eat in Penzance. The staff are always polite and friendly, nice food and plenty of it. Kitchen staff (shipmates) can be heard enjoying their work and sometimes the Captain makes an appearance to deliver orders to the table. Am very happy to support local businesses and spend my Doubloons here. Where do pirates hate to be kicked???? In the Arrrrrrrrrrrrse ;)

The Smugglers Den looks amazing with all the decorations. We had the Piri Piri Chicken with chips and the Jerk Chicken with pineapple and chips, a Filtered Coffee which my hubby didn't like much and he wasn't a fan of the Piri Piri either hence the 4 stars. We were happy with the food. Also had Onion rings and Homemade Coleslaw. Yummy 😋. My favourite was the Double Espresso Vanilla Milkshakes, my daughter added Daim to hers. We both had a Rum shot on ice each, Banana-Caramel and Banana-Coconut. Our male server tipped the tray serving the drinks, saved both our Rum shots but dropped hubbies coffee. He jokingly said the fumes of the alcohol made him tip the tray. Haha 😄

Very dingy restaurant. Definitely something more for the kids than the adults. Great pricing on the food, but it's about as dirty as you expect it to be. Great if you like dirty food, not so great if you don't. Staff were friendly but also somewhat unattentive. Good experience overall.

Lovely fried breakfast, large or standard sized. All well cooked. Tasty egg and avocado ciabatta. Good tea and coffee. All good prices and fast and friendly service. Plenty of tables, and busy even on a Tuesday morning, which must be a good sign. They serve wine and other alcoholic drinks too. We will go here again.

I will always support local businesses but last time I went into this cafe. I had no idea who was serving me and some of the staff made me feel really uncomfortable. Fortunately the food the nice.

Wow wow wow, what hidden gem in the center of causeway head, had amazing all day breakfast and my daughter had a burger wow the burger was demolished by my daughter, the sausages on the all day, breakfast were the best sausages I’ve ever eaten in my life, Serious five stars. If you haven’t been here, then you need to. It’s it is a must

Visited as 2 adults and a 5 year old. We were seated very quickly and orders taken within 10 minutes of arriving even though is was quite busy. The decor is fantastic and our kid loved it! We each had a "hot dog" which was actually a proper cornish sausage (absolutely massive!) with fries and a side of mac and cheese. 3 meals, a side and 3 drinks, (one being a milkshake with added extras) was about £50 and we enjoyed all of it. We was there on holiday and came on a whim but if we are ever in the area again, we would return. The staff were friendly and attentive and we briefley saw who we assumed was the chef wearing a pirates hat! All in all a great experience and we couldn't fault it at all. Great staff, great food and great atmosphere!

Really tasty hearty and filling, very reasonably priced. Not usually a fan of this type of grub but thoroughly enjoyed it. Son had burger with jolly roger(loaded) fries. YUMMY , burger was a chicken Jack Ketch. Definitely worth a visit 👍🏼

The milkshakes are fantastic. Food is great value for money - great for lunches and famous for their all day giant breakfast! Service is always prompt and friendly. The atmosphere is unique- it's always busy but there is plenty of space and there are lots of things to look at - that's the best way to describe it and you have to see it to know what I mean.
