The food was excellent and service very efficient but there was very little atmosphere. We booked here for old time’s sake but the attitude towards customers is very poor: 1. We were obliged to give our credit card details so a £15 ‘no show’ charge could be applied, despite re-confirming via the app that we would be coming. 2. We were told before we’d even arrived that we would need to vacate our table 1h40m after our 7pm booked time. 3. At the end of our evening, a 10% service charge was added to our bill without any mention or thank you. We were wondering from the very start do you really want our custom or not? Despite it being a busy Saturday night in St Ives, there were only 2-4 tables occupied in a large restaurant the whole time we were there. It’s a shame because the food and setting of the restaurant are superb. I think ‘no bookings’ is more of a problem than ‘no shows’ so maybe you need to review your policies to be more in line with your competitors and a lot more welcoming to your customers.

Absolute game-changer! The chowder was nothing short of spectacular. Every spoonful was a harmonious blend of rich, creamy textures and bold, savory flavors. Loaded with fresh ingredients, it struck the perfect balance between hearty and indulgent. It’s rare to find such a comforting dish executed so flawlessly. This chowder definitely deserves all the accolades.

Walked in to a warm welcome on a drizzly October evening. The Loft may not have panoramic views but makes up for quality with the service and food served. The food was lovely, especially the mussels and lamb ragu. The haddock was dry and that whole meal was pretty bland. We also had the prawns to start and they were lovely, but maybe overpriced. All in all, a lovely experience, but the haddock let it down slightly.

Food was simply amazing! We booked for our anniversary after reperching best restaurant's in St Ives and wed are so glad we did. We had the seafood chowder and pork belly for starters, the chowder was one of the best things I have ever eaten and my husband could not get enough of the sauce the pork was cooked in. We both had the steak for mains and this was cooked to perfection. Service was great and had a lovely atmosphere about it. Would highly recommend this little restaurant.

Pork belly bites not rendered chewy fat bottled sauce. Chowder-just some fish in a bland cream sauce, really not pleasant, samphire was the tastiest bit. Prawn Thermidor linguine- nicely cooked prawns in another very heavy cream sauce, gloopy pasta and why gratinate the top then add yet more Parmesan? Sickly. Decent bottle of wine but not well chilled. Then 10% service £9.10 for delivering 3 plates wine not even opened or poured. Whole place needs money spending on it very run down. £100 for 3 plates of underwhelming food and warm wine, bargain

Good food. But… We had a booking at 20:45. We couldn’t find parking and called to let the restaurant know that will be 10 minutes late. They said that they will give our table if we more than 10 min late. Our friends got off the car and arrived in time (20:45) so that we don’t lose the booking. When we were parking they called us to ask for order otherwise we wouldn’t be able to ordered because the kitchen was closing at 21:00. We arrived at 21:02 and the waitress had very very rude tone saying: “you have to order now”. We ordered at 21:04 literally. When we arrived at the restaurant only 3 tables were occupied. So much stress and bad behaviour for nothing. At the end we we had a polite conversation with a member of the staff some other staff came and literally kicked them us out, saying “go now, you were lucky you managed to order”. Just to add on , the restaurant already knew we dined out for birthday celebration.

The food was amazing. However the service would not even deserve a star. We had our booking at 845 pm, in an area we struggled to find parking. I quickly called up to let them know, to which the waitress replied that make it quick, be here in 10 mins or if not, our table would be given away. We quickly told our friends to head over while we found parking. As we were walking to the restaurant, we got continuous texts requesting us to pick our orders as the kitchen closes at 900pm. We quickly made it there. As we walked in, the waitress did not greet us, we quickly walker over to our table so we could proceed with the order (where our friends were seated). Before I could barely sit (bearing in mind I was all dressed as it was my birthday), this rude waitress walked up and said "u have to order now", and just basically threw the menus on the table. It got me taken aback, and told her to speak with some kindness, to which she started arguing that we were late. And I clarified that we called in to inform then, and we were not informed about kitchen closing time. The audacity she had to tell us, IF YOURE NOT HAPPY, YOU CAN LEAVE. This has been the NASTIEST WAITRESS IVE EVER EXPERIENCED, and such poor service was actually acknowledged by another male waiter who apologised, saying he felt the remarks were very snappy from her end. It left a sour taste in my mouth. If a staff can tell you to leave, it only goes to show how poorly they have been trained to adapt to any kind of situation. AVOID THIS PLACE AT ANY COST!!!

We had a great meal recently at The Loft, a restaurant we've always overlooked on our previous visits to St Ives to our detriment. We started with mussels and burrata. The burrata was absolutely sublime and very sensibly priced (shows just how many restaurants rip you off). I could have eaten it all over again straight away. My husband commented that his mussels needed a piece of bread to mop up the delicious juices. We both went for the Malaysian fish course for main. Really interesting with delicious flavours. Nicer views than expected. Great wine list. The restaurant is set out really nicely with well spaced tables. Quite intimate. The staff weren't massively attentive, but actually we didn't mind this as the waits overall were just right. We would 100% return and recommend.

Worst place ever. Never been treated as rude in England as here. We were asked to leave because of an attitude of the waitress who did not understand the meaning of hospitality. Visited on what turned out to be a quiet Tuesday evening. We were the only couple in the main restaurant and another couple came in with a dog and sat in the terrace area. The food was very good but the restaurant was quite cool and obviously no atmosphere us being the only people in. First impression was that the clipboard menu had seen better days, the paper was tatty and obviously had water spills on it. Whilst the young lady was very pleasant, she only did the basics of service, took our order, delivered the food and wine, didn’t ask if we wanted to taste the wine and left us to pour - she didn’t come to check the everything was ok with the meal which we would normally expect in this standard of restaurant which includes 10% service charge as standard. Just very basic observations but for a dinner for 2 costing £120+ these small things would have complimented the food and raised the standards.

Food is good but customer service was appallingly poor. We were a total of 15 customers. When we phoned to make a reservation, nobody answered so we had to reserve seats online. This meant we had to book around 3 tables. When we arrived, we explained what happened but they kept saying you should have called us. So instead of seating us all together , (some of us had travelled from London and the USA to be with family over Easter) they sat us at 3 different tables. The food was good but when it came to ordering dessert they said : you don't have time for dessert we need the table in 10 minutes. The way we were spoken to was very rude. We then were told that one of our party had shouted at them, and we tried to find out who. One of our party who is an event planner said they had been trying to suggest how the previously booked tables could be arranged but they did not shout. Also it seems odd to treat 14 customers badly over a supposed bad experience with one customer. Everyone's customer service experience was so poor that, sadly, a number of us wondered whether there was some form of xenophobia going on? We had spent a lot of money ( including a 10% "optional" service charge already on the final bill)and the food was delicious but unfortunately in the end, we left the restaurant with a bad taste in our mouths. This was a disappointing first experience of St Ives for us. We have been to Cornwall before. We had an excellent experience in Padstow two years ago.

After I'd tapped my card to pay and noticed I was informed that I didn't have to have paid it. Too late then of course. In addition they apparently didn't have the wine we ordered so we accepted a suggested alternative which turned out to be more expensive, again, no warning given. All in all, came away feeling rather ripped off, pity.

I would rate this as the best Sunday lunch in St Ives by a country mile. The meat is always perfectly cooked, the sides are delicious and the service is spot on. I could genuinely drink the gravy out of a bucket it’s that good. Plus it’s reasonably priced. But I have one criticism… I’m gluten free which is rubbish. And then what makes it even more rubbish is when you’re gluten free and so the restaurant removes the cauliflower cheese and Yorkshire pudding from your meal but doesn’t supplement it with anything else yet you’re still charged the same. Just an extra roast potato and some additional veg would have been lovely. Just my opinion!

We booked a trip through Cornwall on the Statesman Chartered Train. We chose St Ives for our precious two and a half hour stop over, and googled restaurants in St Ives before noting the Loft appeared worth a visit according to reviews. I booked a table for two, weeks in advance, and was enthused to see Lobster Thermadore, a firm favourite of mine, on the menu. I noted the need to let the restaurant know in advance that I would be ordering this dish. I set an alarm on my phone, calling them two days before our visit, to confirm our table and also inform them that I would be ordering the lobster dish. The surprising response to this news, was that lobsters might be difficult to find(!) and might cost up to one hundred pounds. I stated quite clearly that the cost was unimportant. To spare everyone a long read, the restaurant had not bothered to source the lobsters and told me that the fishing boats had not been out. We ordered a starter because we were starving I had the chowder, my wife had the Mussels. The first mussel into her mouth burnt her tongue so badly, it is still painful a day later! At the bottom of my delicious chowder, I found a mussel with half of one side of its shell missing and it had not opened at all. I spent the rest of the day awaiting the digestive consequences. Thankfully, they did not manifest. I am not a complainer at heart, but this was not a great experience. I later heard a local performer telling visitors that the boats had been out, and had returned earlier that morning. I will let you, the reader, arrive at your own conclusion having imagined this was your one annual 'extravagance'. For us, this pretty much ruined our painfully brief visit to what was otherwise, a very beautiful place.

Managing to get a booking as this place gets busy. Food was very good. Mussels were delicious as was steak. Only gripe is that it is on the pricier side but worth it.

Wondered across this lovely place after an afternoon exploring St Ives, some of the best food I've had for a while. Staff were friendly and let us have a table even though we hadn't pre booked, service was really quick and they didn't mind us coming up with slightly damp trousers sandy flip flops either. Highly recommended coming here if you're passing by, I still think about the lamb rigatoni

Went for lunch and had mussels to start, which were very good. Then beefcheek, which was very succulent. Very friendly, pleasant staff. Regularly eat here when in St Ives and always good.

This is a great dining spot in the heart of St Ives. An incredibly welcoming experience in a beautifully decorated restaurant… you have the option of seating in the restaurant or on the terrace which is great! The staff were very polite and the service was quick. This for me was an incredibly relaxing experience and the food was super tasty. I would recommend the beef rigatoni and the incredibly creamy buratta (one of the best I’ve ever had). Only thing I will say is the portion size was huge! But is that something really to complain about? I would definitely return here <3

New favourite restaurant in St Ives. We come every year and haven’t visited the loft before but are so glad we did! The food on offer is all really cosy and rich in flavour. For starter I had the muscles which were delicious and cooked in a lovely chorizo and tomato sauce - such an amazing change from the usual white wine. I had the Hake which was absolutely delicious and came with the most amazing curry sauce I’ve ever had. The rest of my party had the beef cheek and the lamb rigatoni which were both slow cooked and the meat was falling to pieces they said they were delicious too! The service was good but could have been slightly better if the staff were more attentive- they seemed very rushed and busy. We will definitely visit again.

A little disappointed that the cocktails we wanted were unavailable due to a broken blender. It was a little hard to find and and bit on the pricey side but we enjoyed our meal which was the day’s special. Lovely staff as well.

Early Saturday evening we decided to give Sanders a try. The car park over the road is free after 6 pm so it was easy to access. The eating area was clean and well lit. My wife opted for the “Special” which was Sea Bass, whilst I took the cod & chips. We declined the Drinks List and the Cocktails Menu. My fried cod was very good, the chips I found a little dry. My wife found the Sea Bass served with salad and chips in a bucket very good. The Bill: £38.94 which was fair.

Called in for a pasty with my wife on Saturday afternoon whilst on holiday here in a neighbouring village, Bolingey. Unfortunately, they had sold out of all pasties but........ fortunately as a second choice. I had the best chickenTikka baguette I have ever had, anywhere! Plenty of deliciously spiced chicken tikka meat with mint mayo, with loads of fresh lettuce, red onion, tomato and lettuce which was also delicious served in a fresh baguette. I had a fantastic Americano too and together it was a truly excellent lunch. To be honest I enjoyed my lunch so much I can't even remember what my wife had for hers! Must've been good though as there were no scraps left for me! Called in again on Sunday for a quick bite but it was very busy and I had to give in to my hunger and walk to a neighbouring cafe! I will definitely call back in before we leave for home later this week. Had a great chat with (Dave?) the proprietor whilst we had lunch there on Saturday and he is a very personable guy.
