Truly Scrumptious in Scarborough

The ice creams we bought from this shop were horrible, tasteless and gritty. It tasted like the ice cream had been allowed to thaw and then refrozen. After two licks, I threw mine away. I will not be returning.

Had Bischof pot full of delicious ice cream. Not cheap, £3.80, but lots of it, and it took a little while to create and serve

During my stay in Whitby I visited Truly Scrumptious far too many times than my waistline wanted me too! The lemon top ice creams are the best I have ever tasted, I also highly recommend the Biscoff Pot this was packed full of flavour and deliciousness!

If I could give this 6 stars I would. I was happy with the amount of toppings on the outside and then to my surprise there was a thick layer of Biscoff inside the cone, it made me a little emotional No skimping on the good stuff here! Very decent price as well.

Went here for 3 x take out ice creams in tubs. Not the highest prices but definitely up there, however you do get a good amount and ooooh so nice........ definitely go back before we go home

One of our favourite places in Whitby. Always great choices of drinks and ice cream and have always been made to feel welcome by the owners. We were not allowed to sit in due to Covid 19 but still have lots of choices and the favoured whippy is delicious.

The owners are terrible not child friendly ,if you smoke its the place for you ,but not the place if you have children the attitude of the owners are terrible why have a ice cream shop if dont like children should have a cigarette shop

Enjoyed a coffee and extra special hot chocolate. Really delicious. There was a nice selection of cakes. We sat in The sunshine outside. People watching.

Arrived late afternoon and indoor tables were closed off but we were quite happy to have our drinking chocolate and sticky bun outside. I had the standard chocolate but my wife had the special chocolate which was quite competitively priced and totally delicious. Very friendly owner who brought our drinks out to us. Did not try the ice-cream but noticed it was Marshfield Farm and therefore would be delicious. The owner was missing out on one little earner in very dog friendly Whitby. He did not appear to stock Marshfields Doggy ice-cream. My dog loves it!

Ladies have you tried MR WHIPPY lately !I know the weather is cold and all around can only be described as 50 Shades of Grey ! Be tempted and let your hair down and imagination run wild with 50 Shades of Colour ! Do you like sprinkles , sauce and whipped ice cream the choice is yours ? If so this is " whippy heaven " where you will find them " massive and absolutely gorgeous " as one reviewer posted. I have to agree everybody when handed their chosen colourful ice creams had huge smiles .I watched a smiling talented master craftsman create a milkshake for a young woman. Her choice was two ingredients from a list comprising of :- Dime bars , Ferrero Rochers , Jelly Babies ,Liquorice Allsorts , Snickers , Toblerones etc. Again like the customers with large colourful Ice creams a huge smile appeared saying its Soooo Good. I myself enjoyed a biscuit and coffee while idling away the hours. Truly Scrumptious Café accommodates inside or out with no front door step. Its cosy inside so prams have to be folded up. Ice cream counter to your left , Milkshake counter to your right with table and seating at the back of the cafe. Outside along the café frontage table and chairs have good views of the Abbey , Harbour and colourful houses perched on the hillside. Next time its a cuppa and sticky bun for me !

Had ice creams from here a couple of times in the past but always taken them away. We decided to eat in at the weekend and we treated ourselves to one of the sharing sundaes. The choice of ice cream is excellent and really tasty and the milkshake choices look amazing also although we have never tried any. Must admit the service wasn't as friendly as I would have hoped but not so much that it would put me off returning.

Excellent littlw shop, friendly staff, lots of options, you are blown away by the selection of the milkshake menu. THIS PLACE IS A MUST VISIT PLACE

Me and my daughter went in for an ice cream and chocolate brownie. The brownie was rock hard and my daughter was playing in front of the man only to be met with a look of disgust, if you don’t like children don’t run an ice cream shop. We left without eating our brownie or drinking the coffee as being brought up in Whitby all my life. I will not return or recommend this place to anyone else. There are far better places in Whitby to go. With better customer service

Such cheap ice cream, generous servings, loads of great flavours! Amazing value! Flavoured Whippy, sauce and sprinkles all for less than £2!

Decided to stop in after battling rain and wind. We ordered some 99 cones - but the lady serving us handled the cone without gloves and then took cash payment and gave change so it's fair to assume this had been done many times before we arrived in the afternoon. Basic food hygiene wasn't adhered to which made us lose our appetite and ended up binning the cone. Might seem petty to some but if you think about the changing of hands money goes through... not a nice thought. Ice cream choice was really good though - only accept cash payment so make sure you have money when visiting.

Bought ice creams with the intent of sitting down inside so my wife could feed our 4 month old in the warm. After ordering, my wife went to sit down and was advised they inside seating was closed as they where closing in 10 minutes. There was no visible sign of the closing time or advance warning prior to ordering.

Visited Monday 7th August. Lovely ice cream and lemon top and only 8.00 for 5 ice creams. Will try the shakes next time. Can't beat it.

What a fab little find ( actually highly recommend from mum and dad) coffee is 1st class ice cream second to none , the owners go out of there way to make you feel welcome and all the staff are fab and friendly see you again bank holiday

También hay una zona de estar exterior. Que su elección es mucho muy difícil tomar una decisión pero definitivamente algo para todos, incluso para los perros. Recomendaría muy amable y nuestra helados estaban deliciosos.

We came here on a blustery day and weren't disappointed, there are a great many lives to choose from , Knickerbocker glories are very good, staff are very polite and friendly and helpful. It appears sort of kitsch but it's not really.

Whenever I visit Whitby I always stop off at this cafe. Well this time as the weather was so good, even in October I had to try their Mr Whippy Strawberry Tops, three time- YUMMY!! The staff were friendly and there is lots of choice on offer

Visited here with my friend today.This was the first time either one of us had ever been.I had a hot chocolate and my friend had a nutella chocolate £4.50 for the pair i felt was very reasonable especially in Whitby.We sat inside where there are a few tables and chairs.there are also a couple of tables to sit outside at.A lot of this place appears to be devoted to ice cream and slightly less so to milkshakes.the scones with jam also looked nice.All in all though it is pretty basic its quite a nice appealing place

I popped in here for an ice cream on a very hot day, while visiting the harbour, with my two sons. The staff were helpful and polite. There is so much choice, it was hard to choose which one to have. It is a whippy heaven, they were massive and absolutely gorgeous. We'll be going back again, next time we visit.

Went here three times on my recent hols to Whitby! They have a great range of ice-cream including different flavoured Mr Whippy and salted caramel which was my favourite. The staff are great and very patient whilst children choose and change their minds! Recommend the lemon tops from here as the tops are proper lemon sorbet - lovely! And so well priced, 5 ice-creams for under £10 :-)

We came here for milkshakes...they blend any chocolate bar or sweets with milk and icecream. I had snickers and my friends had toblerone and dime bar. You can even mix two. They looked like plain cream milkshakes but they were soooo good. Not sure how the jelly babies or liquorice allsorts one would taste but I am curious!

My school's annual performing arts trip to Whitby isn't complete without a trip down to Truly Scrumptious got some personalised milkshakes and ice cream (though there's a lot more on offer). Service has always been friendly and welcoming. Will hopefully be back next year!

We used this little place twice on a hot day - once for cold drinks, milkshake (very good but a bit pricey) and bottled juice. We also called later near closing time and had toasted tea-cakes and hot drinks, all very nice. Service is fine though not overly friendly and we didn't feel rushed to leave even though they were closing up. I think the two young girls staffing it that day were rather bored but we found it OK and convenient.

Yes, the drinks and ice cream available in this shop are great but that's it. The customer service and staff are awful! I'm a local and me, my children and my grandparents decided to pop for an ice cream. We thought we'd have a sit down inside the EMPTY shop as my 2-year-old struggles to walk and eat ice cream only to be told that I'd have to remove my 7-month-old napping baby from the pram and fold it up. When I questioned why when there was clearly enough room for my tiny pram, I was met with rudeness and a raised voice regarding 'rules' and 'shop space'. As I left the premises while being practically yelled at, I responded with, "okay, you've lost my custom, I'm done" to be told to 'go away' by the woman serving. They've lost not only my custom, but the custom of a lot of parents in this town. Also, there's plenty of better ice cream shops around the town and another fantastic milkshake shop on the east side of the swing bridge.

I was absolutely disgusted by the bad manners of the lady shop assistant, the shop was empty and I went in with my Wife, my granddaughter and her two children, as soon as we passed the open door we were shouted at by miss truly grumpy to fold up the pram, my grand daughter said "but my 2 month old baby is in it" I don't care,, rules are rules "says jobs worth, when my granddaughter pointed out that the shop was empty Truly Grumpy not so Scrumptious started to shout so we left never to return. No wonder the shop was empty.

A great range of unusual ice cream flavours and friendly staff that are really patient as you try to decide which ice cream flavour to go for.

We stopped for 11's yesterday and whilst the location is great and the ice cream and milkshake menu is amazing, the staff were unbelievably rude!I asked if they offered a child sized hot chocolate and got a very blunt no (which is fine but I only asked). My mother in law stood for the entire time with her credit card ready to pay (there are no signs anywhere saying they don't accept card) only to be told they don't take card. There were boxes of ice cream cones on the tables meaning 6 of us had to squash around a table for 4 and whilst we were having our drinks a family dared to walk in with s buggy with a sleeping child in it only to be told by the man behind the counter "honestly, if one more person walks in here with a buggy!!' Admittedly there are signs asking people not to but it was a very quiet Monday morning.abd apart from the 6 of us the shop was empty. Clearly he can afford to turn business away as he had such a stinking attitude! I will certainly tell people I know to avoid this place at all costs. There is simply no need for such rudeness.

Whenever we visit Whitby we tend to get there quite early in the morning (mainly to get parked successfully!), therefore we always make our way to Truly Scrumptious for a coffee to kickstart the day. However, in the last we have also visited for ice cream and their HUGE range of milkshakes - consisting of just about every chocolate bar and sweet you can honk of!Prices are very reasonable and quality is good, and although staff aren't the most talkative they do a good job. Seating is rather limited too, however there are plenty of places nearby outside you can sit to enjoy whatever you have bought.

We called for a cup of tea, it was lovely. It was neR closing time but there was no rush, the stFf were extremely friendly and welcoming

After having a long walk in the glorious sunshine, instead of a drink, both my husband and I wanted to enjoy a refreshing ice cream. There were other spots that offer a wider range of creams, but I am a sucker for "lemon top". The ice cold sorbet offered on top of ice cream. Absolutely lovely.

Is you like ice cream, this place is a must! Even if you don't, just go and see what the weird and wonderful ice creams available!Delicious ice creams and fab prices! Go go go!

Ive been reading the comments by people regarding this establishment and the people who work there. First of all I know the people personally and they couldn't be friendlier and secondly where else in Whitby can you get what they sell for a cheaper price, that's right you cant. I don't know why people have taken to this shop to attack it and the people working there, if you don't like or like the them then there is always other shops to go to, you aren't being forced to visit! Sue and Andy work long hours and they always insist on making conversations and are always friendly with the customers, and Danielle works hard too...don't be put off by the idiots who have taken to moaning about them, pop in and see for yourself and try and prove me wrong (you wont) best milkshakes in Whitby and the hot choccys are to die for.

Me and my boyfriend first visited Whitby in Oct 2011 and have been 3 more times since then and every time we visit Truly Scrumptious. For a special hot chocolate its £2.80 which is a bargain. I love the oreo cookie and chocolate orange flavours you also get lots of cream and marshmellows. The ice cream sundaes are also very reasonably priced. The staff are nice too.

I visited this establishment about 2-3 months ago. I own a seaside cafe in County Durham & wanted to find up some information about an ice cream range they stock. I was given truthful answers by the owner which confirmed my gut feeling. At this time I didn't buy anything but I returned later to buy some hot drinks. While I was waiting for these to be prepared I began to look around which seemed to make the owner feel under scrutiny which was never my intention. In truth I was stunned by the range of products he had on offer & how reasonable his prices were! I wondered how he was making a living.Definitely a good little pit stop. I would visit again when in the area.

By far and away the best milkshakes in Whitby. I always look forward to coming here every time I visit Whitby. Staff are really friendly and work very hard to make sure leave with a smile on your face.

My son cannot visit Whitby without a special hot chocolate from Truly Scrumptious, and it really is special, loads of cream and marsh mallows, so don't go too often!! :-)

Not a shabby little place, nice ice creams, the old guy behing the counter takes so much pride making his coffees, u can see in his eyes hes dancing with pride over them whilst his dear old lady works her charms whipping the ice creams up taking joy watching there waitresses work the floor its like watching a scene from a disney film. Would definate recommend popping in to enhance your visit to whitby

great food excellent price , even the dog was given a sausage , great value for money, lovely little clean cafe.

My Mum fell over the road from this cafe and the Proprietor showed us kindness and offered us free drinks (not accepted) whilst waiting for an ambulance. We sat at one of his tables for over an hour waiting and in the end he arranged a taxi at my request so I could get my Mum to the hospital to be treated. We were both very grateful for his kindness! Thank you.

This shop is owned by the most miserable old man I've ever met as said in previous comments this place has 0 customer service,it is not family friendly n the abuse I received for asking a question was out of this world ,this place won't be open long as its clear there is no customer service which is a shame as whitbys other shops are wonderful,I for one will never go near this shop again nor will the customers that watch his appalling behaviour.

Nice place to sit , have a coffee and relax and take in the ambience, beware the latte contains 2/3rds froth. Owner should realise customers would return again if customer care was better but why stand by you with a cleaning cloth when your cups empty.....oh yes your expected to go.!

We visit here every time we go to Whitby. My children always order a milkshake and its an Amaretti latte for me. The only down side is the older woman who works there is miserable as sin. Smile please :)

Nice ice cream & lots of choice! Double dipped cones are the best! Combinations including lemon & lime or nuts & chocolate! Yummy! Small seating area outside. Separate shop within same premises also sells cold drinks.

Came for an ice cream and some hot drinks with the family, WOW they where delicious the coffees where perfect and the ice creams amazing. The shop is immaculate and the all the staff so friendly and helpful nothing is too much! Stayed for a long time and never felt any pressure to leave at all! It was a lovely experience and will definitely return for a milkshake!

Swell place to sit and enjoy your coffee and watch the world go by, but be warned the owner will let you know if he feels you have out stayed you welcome. He is the most miserable person I have had the misfortune to meet pity because is staff are great.

Didn't get a chance to have a good look at the full range of options as we were in a rush but there's certainly enough to choose from! Had two scoops of the local icecream that they sell and it was AMAZING, best salted caramel I've ever had! Will definitely go back again.

This is an American style diner/cafe. There are tables and chairs on the front which get sunshine all day. There are home baked cakes and treats but their true success comes from the ice cream milkshakes which include a bar of chocolate of your choice (or 2) or even apple pie. The choice is endless. A cheerful watering hole that will make you smile with tasty treats.

Lovely coffee and cakes, definitely worth a visit, quite small inside but very friendly and helpful staff. Very reasonable prices. Will definitely re-visit when next in Whitby

We stumbled across Truly Scrumptious on our first visit to Whitby back in 2010 and were astounded by the LONG list of Milkshakes I tried the Boost Milkshake and my Husband tried the Oreo and they were both delicious We make sure we call in every time were in Whitby and this weekend it will be our first time visiting in winter so we will have to try a Hot Chocolate instead

Just a few doors down from the famous Magpie, is this little gem........selling delicious hot chocolate, frothy coffees, proper Yorkshire tea....... homemade cakes, pasties, sausage rolls, fresh sandwiches........toasted crumpets, teacakes, toasties........and a truly scrumptious selection of ice creams and ice cream sundaes.This little café is reminiscent of a good old fashioned ice cream parlour, with a huge display board crammed full of photographs of the scrumptious sundaes, along with their listed ingredients. If there's nothing to tantalise your taste buds from this vast selection, you could always concoct your own......the friendly staff are sure to oblige.There's indoor and outdoor seating areas, but if you don't want to stay in this spotlessly clean little café, you can have your drinks and other purchases packaged to take away.This is a fab little place, serving a good selection of food, drinks and ice creams, and all at a very reasonable price.Next time you're looking for a bite to eat, a lovely hot drink (or cold), a piece of cake or a scrumptious ice cream sundae...........pop in to Truly Scrumptious.....you'll be so glad you did.
