Tropic Bar in Southampton

Well where do I start! Myself and 3 friends booked in for a bottemless brunch. The service was extremely slow we waited over 15 minutes after ordering our first drink to even recieve it, The cocktails tasted poor and were not up to standard. The food was rubbish and very salty. The waitress and the manager were rude. When we asked a question the waitress rolled her eyes at us. The window where we were sat had clearly been broken so was boarded up but made to look like the easthetic with lights hung on it. Overall we were unhappy with our visit and won't be recommending to other people.

Quite possibly the worst over priced place I've ever been too. The worst "cocktails" if you can call them that. Most were just juice flavoured cups of ice. So much ice. One member of bar staff who took 25 minutes to make 4 drinks. 1.5 hours for 4 drinks and a plate of food. We booked for brunch but on ordering were told that we could only have 2 wraps because thats all they had ( there was 4 of us) or upgrade to a main meal for £4.95 ( on top of the £28.95) so you can choose a starter or wraps. After complaining we were upgraded to a main meal for free but honestly it was disgusting. The chicken burger was a reheated chicken thigh from a previous day that was tough and dry. The curry served with boil in the bag rice all of which too salt to eat. We didn't complain we just left but hopefully this review will stop someone else wasting another £30 there

Food and cocktails were fabulous, staff were friendly and very helpful, would definitely recommend this bar.

We went as a group of 9 on a Saturday night and decided to eat at 730pm. When ordering I asked if I could have one tapas dish as a starter before a pizza and was told all the food came out at once… uuummm that was so far from reality. After 20 minutes the waitress came to us to tell us that cod cakes that some of us had ordered had run out! The first dish came out 40 minutes later. Over the course of the next 50 minutes some of the food came out very slowly in dribs and drabs with some eating and others not eating. The quality was really poor. Squid that smelt very fishy almost off, mushrooms that smelt of dirt and sweet potato fries that tasted and smelt of over used frying oil. My pizza did not come out and I had to remind them …another 10 mins and it came out. It was supposed to be divola which includes meat but it was a sloppy mess of too much sloppy cheese on a very thin burnt base. I could not find any meat on it. Some of the other dishes did not come out. It was a disaster. A waiter then brought drinks and one tipped on the tray and fell all over a friends pizza and the table. However, the food was inedible so it was probably a good thing. I told them we were not going to pay for any food because it was that bad. I also said we should have a discount on drinks. One because they serve short pints with massive heads on lager and two that as a cocktail bar they do not do all cocktails on a Saturday night as they are too busy!!!! They gave us 30% off drinks and we did not pay for food. They also apologised profusely but it was not a good experience. The standard of restaurants generally in the area seems to have gone downhill in recent months but this is one we will not be returning to for food or drinks.

I booked here for my partners birthday, I made a reservation online over a week in advance and added a note advising this was for my partners birthday. Upon arrival, no acknowledgment of this was made and it felt like they weren’t expecting us. It was moderately busy which is understandable, however our cocktails took over 25 minutes to arrive, noticing other peoples drinks arrived before ours when they ordered after. However, these were really nice and strong tasting!! The tapas unfortunately way too over priced for the portion sizes. This was all brought out at different times and not together. We ended up going out for a full dinner after as 4 plates of tapas didn’t even line the stomach. Sadly I don’t think I’d have food here again, however the cocktails were cool. I am more upset that I choose this place as somewhere special for my partners birthday and it felt like there was no effort and this was undermined. Overall I’d say this was a 6/10 experience.

So the cocktails are amazing and the beer is lovely and quite unique. Food is great but be aware its a little pricey (you're paying for a unique experience though) our one issue was that the first time we went the staff made a couple of catty remarks about us behind the bar, I assume not realising that the place is small enough that customers can hear! Second time the bartender was fantastic and so friendly. Overall we'll most likely go back and would recommend.

Love this new bar in southampton staff are fun and friendly! Good vibes in here lots of cocktails to choose from good location of Oxford street and outdoor seating. We had a great few hours in here. Really loved the female security lady on the door too looking out for us keeping everyone safe!

Very good food finally we have a good tapas bar in Southampton and cocktails will recommend to tried. Staff are very welcome

Excellent cocktails, great environment and nice selection of food. I was impressed with the service staff and the meet and greet person who showed us to our table. It’s a great place for a social as the music is not over powering and it’s comfortable to have a chat with your friends. All round it was a very pleasant visit and start to our evening. Will be going back for sure.

What an amazing new bar that’s brought some life back into southampton. An amazing selection of tapas food that is outstanding, a very generous selection of delicious cocktails and a great atmosphere and very friendly staff. Will definitely become a regular in Tropic.
