The Standing Order in Southampton

It was a very lively pub, full of locals people eating Sunday lunch. One of the most affordable choices on High Street, and the low prices probably attracted the crowd. Our typical pub lunch was fine, the atmosphere was authentic.

Claire was the best barmaid ever, helped us pick cocktails and delivered them in no time. Absolutely brilliant, I’ll be back again soon

The toilets in this wetherspoons are the worst I've seen. There is urine all leaking out of the urinals over the floor, and the smell is disgusting. Cannot believe wetherspoons is letting this go on.

Perfectly acceptable pub to enjoy a cheap and cheerful breakfast at 8am on a Saturday morning. Hot and well cooked, served efficiently in a friendly fashion, we had no complaints at all. And we got to hear about Brian and Geoff at the table nearby 'sealing the deal' and making sure the business would be profitable for the 'foreseeable.' Seeing as Geoff enjoys his 'Caribbean holidays twice a year' and Brian is 'rarely off the course' it was good to hear that the pretentious idiots will be doing it all again next year and irritating an entirely different couple trying to enjoy their grub despite the high pitched cackling coming from the suited ones adoring wives. Recommended. Just avoid Brian, Geoff and the witches.

I love this place where you can be yourself wear what you like laugh eat drink and still have change in your pocket no music but full of chat friendly brilliant

We’ve been to quite a few Wetherspoons but this had to be one of the worse. Came for a quick bite as the kids were hungry and have a good choice for kids with food and drinks options. Found a vacant table eventually as there were lots of empty tables but all full of dirty plates. Sat down and the table was very sticky. On way to the bar, all the bins are out near the bar and quite off putting. Went to order food but was told it was too early for the main menu (11.30am) and couldn’t order yet so went back to the table and ordered online straight away with no problems. Drinks arrived quickly and the food arrived about 10 minutes later, so no delay. Food was as expected from what we ordered. And the saw staff then clearing tables but not really cleaning them so can see why they were sticky. The good thing is the toilets are on the same floor and no flights of stairs but smelt musty.

It is what you expect from a Wetherspoons, same types of people from students to older men, the food menu is very good value for the money paid although the compromise is a bit of quality which has improved over the years. Staff are always friendly and helpful. The toilets are a million miles away (as per every Wetherspoons ever). There's weekday schedules for savings on drinks and food, great starter for the night or just a good place to meet for a few drinks and food.

Came in for breakfast before a 5-hour drive home. The food was good, the place looked pretty clean. Staff all helpful and pleasant.

A typical city centre Spoons with the usual fast, efficient, friendly service. I notice they’re showing the FA Community Shield on ITV with the sound on!

Went in for breakfast and got a nice meal. Later in the day went for 🍹 cocktails and wasn't disappointed.

Friendly staff, and good service via the app. However, not the pubs fault, but for some reason, Witherspoon have decided to remove some of the flavoured gins.

Met up with some friends for food and a drink today and had a rather rude (guessing Romanian) woman snap at me, huffing and puffing because I asked where the condiments were. I don’t know what most of the staff at Wetherspoons are like but I thought that was rather unprofessional. I shall be returning as the rest of the staff were friendly and great but I hope I don’t have to deal with her again.

Always prepared to get you pissed but not very tolerant when you do

I was there one minute before 8am when they open. The doors were open but they wouldn't let me in. So yeah 1* for officiousness. Food has gone seriously downhill in recent years too.

Appalling customer service. We purchased drinks and the contactless payment in known to did not go through. Security guard came over and told us to go and pay. My friend said let me just check my account. To which he replied- we are a national chain and don't scam people! We said we would pay it’s a a bit A $6.35!!!! We continued with our drinks and were then approached by another security guard telling us to pay and then the original guy came back and told us to settle our account. When last orders were called my friend asked if she could buy bottle of water. The young man on the bar asked another staff member who said no. He apologised and said I can get you a glass of water. Then we heard the other staff member say don't apologise they new it was last orders. Awful service! They should think abbhhhh

Our party ordered food 1 had scampi chips mushy peas and the peas were cold 1 had vegan all day breakfast beans were cold and 2 had gourmet sirloin steak 1 rare and the other medium and the order was mixed up and both the peas were cold

It was a Saturday night, and strangely it was quiet

So my breakfast turned up cold, i mean really cold. I went to the bar and asked for a fresh hot breakfast. They microwaved , egg bacon and beans with the toast under the beans ....do I need to say more, bullet egg and soggy toast ...I spoke to a lady manager and said very discreetly this has been microwaved its really not on and she just said sorry and shrugged. 😡 It wasn't even busy. Won't be going back there , very disappointing. 😢

It is the Weatherspoon experience! Cheap and cheerful even though it was very busy service was good and the food I ordered was quick and very tasty. The men's toilets were clean and tidy so all in all I enjoyed my visit 👍

Always the first bar I visit everytime Im at South Hampton. Good crews and the foods are the best.

Convince yourself you are on the set of Michael Jackson’s “Thriller” by going into this place at 9 in the morning. Also cooked breakfast was stone cold.

Great ambiance,helpful staff good ales and the seagull helped as he pinched the roll off the table and flew off with a help from his friends.

Wow this place is busy but still managed to find a seat towards the back of the pub. A lot of the seats are tall chairs that are great for drinking not so good for food. The app is brilliant click click Apple Pay pints and food on table. Food is what you expect no a la carte but just honest mass produced pub grub filling and cheap There are so many places to eat in Southampton if Wetherspoons is not your cup of tea or cheap pint. If you want cheap booze and ok food with out breaking the bank then Wetherspoons is your place Staff are the high point, efficient, friendly and work so hard delivering food and drinks

Toilets let this place down and unruly children

This pub was very busy on a Saturday afternoon when we visited, as you'd expect with a Wetherspoons . We managed to get a seat quite quickly luckily. We ordered food and drinks from the at seat app on our phones and both arrived quickly. Food arrived piping hot , was good sized portions and very good value. Nice pub , good atmosphere and great value. Staff on duty were polite and efficient.

Popped in for breakfast to mop up the drinks from last night and soak up the hangover. Drinks came quick enough and we were so excited for food. Unfortunately both breakfasts tasted of burnt. We were too hungry and hungover to complain or send back and just had to put up with the taste. The toast and bacon was the main offender of the burnt taste. And I know its only small but sunflower spread instead of butter was disappointing. But £16 for 2 breakfasts and 2 drinks for 2 very hungover people can do no wrong.

Called in for lunch while in Southampton (3 of us) Nice tasty food. Good drinks. Great value place. It's a big pub with lots of tables, although it was very full the day we went (Sunday) We did mange to get a table without any issues though. Easy to order using their app and didn't have to wait long

They run the bell at 12:00 and asked us to leave straight after. With no option to finish the drink and kicked us out and we're really rude.

4 stars cos the ladies' toilets weren't the nicest. Bit whiffy 🤦🏼‍♀️

I expected the pub to be busy on the day I visited as Take That were playing close by and that was dealt with quite well tbf. What is not acceptable, is the nasty smell in the ladies toilets, that is obviously an ongoing issue. please can this be seen to and fixed.

Well we have been in lot of Wetherspoons. Some good some not so good. This one is by far the worst. Seating filthy and badly stained. Tables not clean. Carpets sticky n dirty. Even the doors were filthy and need painting etc. Food lukewarm. Just couldnt enjoy our meal . Really wish we hadn't bothered. This place needs a good overhaul and deep clean. Dark and dingy. Beggars sat on pavement right outside the doors. We dont live in the area but if we visit Southampton in the future we will not be going to this 'Spoons'.

Went here as it was round the corner from our apartment, we went for drinks on a Saturday before a night out and back for breakfast in the morning. Saturday night was very busy as it was a football home game also but the place I big and managed to get a table for 6 towards the back, we ordered food and drink (via app) and it came quite quick considering how busy it was. The staff were attentive but not in tour face which was nice. The food was tasty and warm which again was nice as many spoons the food can come a bit cold. Breakfast in the morning was nice too, again fairly quick and was hot. I'd definately come back ☺️

Like any pub of this kind - what you see is what you get. Gets crowded very quickly so I don’t go there that often because of this.

By far the worst weatherspoons we've visited.dirty seats and dirty floors.toast burnt black so sent back.next 2 slices came looking like they'd not even seen the grill.hubby had a small brekkie but that arrived lukewarm.

It is what it is. Food Is great quality but good for the money. Plenty of seating. Cheap drinks and the staff do what they can to help and keep on top of things with the size and turnaround of the place.

Typical Wetherspoons pub. Quite a lot of dubious characters on most days, unfortunately. Update, November 2023. Still dubious characters, some of whom shouldn't be let out on their own. Update, April 2024. The local area of Shirley was always known as the Mutant Mile. Nowadays, it seems to have expanded and not in a good way.

Had a lovely time in there with the family

We asked someone to look after our table, and while we were in the toilet, the employee took our drinks that we paid for away anyways. RIDICULOUS. When asked about it, the employees told us to order more. What a scam.

A great selection of real ales!

Really rowdy , aggressive bunch of men shouting and being intimidating to everyone else. Staff refused to challenge or tell them to calm down. They said they couldn’t do anything. As a five foot female I could’ve and have in jobs. The whole pub noticed. People left. Guarantee these guys will end up fighting. You shouldn’t be a landlord if you can’t reign in aggressive drunks. Place gone downhill. You run the pub, not the aggressive thugs who deem themselves as punters. Get some bouncers. They’re so drunk they can’t even walk out. One man fallen asleep into his pint after shouting for an hour at anything that moved and staff done nothing.

Stayed overnight in Southampton and went for a bite to eat and drink before setting off for a cruise the following day. Great pub…very busy but prompt and efficient service. Friendly hardworking staff…Chicken Katsu curry…can’t beat it!

I like this place. Also finding the interior rather extraordinary, as it's not about the width, but the length of the place. It's rather funky, in a cool way. It has a nice courtyard should you need some fresh air. The drinks are cool.

If it's cheap drinks and food you are after, then you are on the right place.

The burger I ate at this Wetherspoons was the worst burger I have ever received in a restaurant, and I’ve eaten in at least 7 restaurants in my life. Also one of the stingiest portions of chips. This made me very sad as I like burger and chips. ☹️

Tables could of been cleaned when cleared🙄 ordered on the app, drinks a bit slow being brought over. One of the better meals I have had recently from a couple of wetherspoons 👏👏
