Great atmosphere went for the Halloween party they were promoting and it did not disappoint! Full of fun and excitement while keeping a thirst quenching steak and chips. The staff are also really friendly and overall a great experience

A shadow of the pub it once was. Pie was over cooked. Sausage and mash was fine. Prices are reasonable. Lack of atmosphere - it seems a bit bare - windows need dressing perhaps. Beer choice not great imo. Seems to have deteriorated since they stopped serving Timothy Taylors Landlord. HSB - which is a bit strong, is the only decent beer option.

Bit of a let down the starter of pate was nice the Scampi was ok the French fries not good at all & the curry was like a boil in the bag sorry guys lovely staff tho this review is 3 years old so may have changed

A lovely pub and the food looked amazing, although we only popped in for a quick pint. A good choice of lagers, ciders and ales. Saturday is probably the best day to pop in.

We had a family get together at the Crown Sun 21st July. We all 13 of us enjoyed a Sunday roast (excellent) both the service and food were exceptional, thank you to all envolved!

Extremely good old fashioned sorta place for a chat and a pint. Andy (one of the owners) is a particularly jovial and tubby red nosed landlord who is always ready with a laugh and a joke. Highly recommended by me.

I really like this little pub, friendly atmosphere, good value quality/price, service good,can get busy after 5pm but still enjoyable as well educated younger people coming in also.Surprised to find this kind of pub as I am still new in Southampton and trying to discover the city. Well done to the owners. PS. Patience with the dog as he is harmless and elderly but the dog owner checking on him if he wonder away to ask attention from customers. 😉

Best pubby pub in the area hands down. The food is that good we come twice a week

If you want an excellent lunch with excellent freshly made food try this. There are Senior Citizens offers from 12 to 4.30 Monday to Friday. Friendly helpful staff who go that little bit extra to make your dining experience one to remember. A good range of wines, Prosecco and some excellent beers.

Was here having lunch and one of the regulars dogs pissed on the sofa. On a separate occasion it peed on the leg of a chair, and I've seen other customers playing fetch with a dog inside the pub. Really bizarre behaviour and I don't enjoy going out for lunch and having dogs running around the pub peeing on the furniture. I could maybe forgive a one off mistake but the fact it keeps happening says a lot. Such a shame as the new owners have done a pretty good job of bringing this pub back to life but it's ruined by entitled regulars.

Good pub food and friendly service & atmosphere. Beer well served but let down with a rather pedestrian choice of 4 very similar mid brown malty beers. The whole place could do with a lick of paint as well.

Since Andy and Dave have taken over, it is well worth going to, the food is spot on and they do a good pint of Guinness, hats off lads.

Brilliant pub with wonderful staff and clientele. What a hidden gem- get there before they become infamous. They are growing in popularity and rightly so. Kind towards guests and dogs, great food, always a chat and a friendly face. A lot of good things are going to happen around this pub…. It’s going to be even more lovely than it already is.

Went for a roast. The Yorkshire puddings were burnt to a crisp (I'd have been embarrassed if I'd served it to my own family) Stingy on the roast potatoes. There were 3 littleones on my plate. The cauliflower cheese was like glue, it could've stuck to your ribs. The menu was very limited, which wasn't amade clear.. you could have a roast.. or burger.. or scampi and chips.. or cheese mac. The burger was good, but the chips were cold and solid inside. Was really disappointing as I was looking forward to it.

I like the customer service and the ambiance. The food is good, but as for the vegetarian it’s very limited. I would happily recommend this place for a good meal out with friends and family. *adding more vegetarian menu will make vegetarians like me happy 😊

Nice landlords and great burgers

Traditional English Pub. Nice place, generally crowded at Friday nights. So many beer opportunities.

We had a wonderful Sunday roast. The plates were full with very well cooked veggies, meat and gravy. Not to mention the Yorkshire pudding. My wife had the Turkey and I had beef, both cooked perfectly. I can’t comment on any other day of the week, but if you want a well cooked Sunday roast that is reasonably priced the Crown Inn is highly recommended.

Old-fashioned (in a good way), traditional pub... lively, social and tucked away off Highfield Lane. Use it or lose it.

Came here with my partner for food, was amazing and we will be returning again, thank you for the delicious food and great service.

Just had the Crown Inn burger (with cheese). It was the best tasting burger I have ever had. Not sure how they do it but this was delicious. Give it a go. Came back here after a few years away and it was buzzing, great atmosphere, decent variety of drinks and of course the burger. Try it out.👍

A lovely place to dine. Good food, good service and a really nice relaxing atmosphere

It's fine. We didn't eat here. Friendly enough and dogs welcome. Tables were a bit grubby and it generally had a hint of urinal smell. Beer was ok. Outdoor area had artificial grass and benches.

Enjoyed a decent roast here today. Roast potatoes crispy, good sized portions. Friendly service.

Just had a Sunday Roast.. Six of us. Six empty plates. The best Roast I have had in a long time. Very good value, if anything I would say it was too cheap.

There were 7 adults for the Sunday roast. Some had the triple meat and some the beef. It was delicious. Good portion sizes, plenty of gravy and the meat was cooked perfectly. Most had the puddings which were lovely too. Fab service and will definitely be coming back soon!

We've not been to this pub for something like 25 years so I was pleased to see it was in many way unchanged. We visited it twice, once for evening drinks (good selection of beers, plenty of space and a wide range of different people welcomed there) and once for Sunday lunch. Sunday lunch on that day was a choice of roasts - or indeed all three roasts. Great, simple unpretentious pub food well done and good value. Looking forward to returning next time we're around.

A very welcoming pub with friendly and efficient staff. I made a brief stop on Christmas Day but hope to come back and stay longer another time. Merry Christmas all!

It was very nice but quite when I visited

The food here is fresh and real tasty. The roast dinner I had today was outstanding. A very satisfactory size, I even doggy bagged the rest to take home! With a choice of meats, very well cooked variety of veg, alongside roastys, stuffing and a Yorkshire pud. Fantastic! A friendly welcome and service by all. Will definitely be visiting again.

Run by new people and they are young inexperienced and unwelcoming. The menu has been changed to its detriment and surprised they have any customers at all.

Proper pub with some decent ales

Used to come here often but haven't been since before Covid. Wasn't disappointed. Atmosphere still great with decent food at a very reasonable price. 👌

Hubby & I had a very enjoyable evening at The Crown. The beer was first class, the staff welcoming and friendly and the food ( a burger and fish and chips) very good indeed. The only very slight criticism would be that the food could have been a tad hotter. Otherwise excellent and will definitely return.

We used to live down the road and this was and still is our local. I planned a suprise party and the crown did not disappoint! Thank you to the lovely staff for preparing a wonderful table and decorations, and making it a fantastic evening.

Lovely day/evening in what was my old local 25 years ago! Fantastic atmosphere, very friendly staff and new owners, great food, very reasonable prices! Clean and welcoming!! First of all, their phone number doesn't work (perhaps to avoid speaking to irrate customers?). Secondly, I am absolutely disgusted by the experience I had at this pub. I have just started a job at the University of Southampton. On the day I moved in to my office (1st August) I asked colleagues if The Crown was a good place to grab lunch. I was told yes. So my husband and I went and ordered two burgers, a pint of coke, and a glass of wine (I have the receipt to show this) and ate it in the outside area. Then we drove the van we'd used to move all my stuff back home. We've just been charged £165 in parking fines for parking in the car park AS PAYING CUSTOMERS. We noticed the signs saying 'patrons only' - WE WERE PATRONS. It was in NO WAY clearly indicated we had to register our license plate at the bar or whatever nonsense they have decreed to avoid exorbitant charges. This is a complete and utter scam, pretty much akin to thievery. I will be telling all colleagues and my students to NEVER frequent this pub, which has clearly sold out all ethics for every last penny they can scab.

The pub under a new landlord (two months apparently) is a far nicer place to be. The friendly reception and service are welcomed and the new decor is much nicer. All three beers that we tried were well kept. The Crown burger was not on the lunchtime menu but when we asked if we could have one the response was an instant "of course you can ". The quality was better than ever. I will be coming back.

Popped in here for the 1st time yesterday & ordered fish & chips! The fish was great & the chips were fantastic too! For only £9.95 felt I got a bargain! The staff were very friendly & also the locals! The pub was filling right up when I left ready for the Sunday night quiz! I'll be back for sure to try the pork & chorizo pie on the specials board!

The pub is always empty no wonder why. The fish I got survived my dogs wouldn’t even eat it would never go here again only for drink. DO NOT ORDER FOOD AT THIS PLACE! Also the pictures you see are of the older owners the new owner hasn’t done anything for the place

New people running this popular pub are doing okay and heading in right direction. I wish them well as its not an easy job. Food was well prepared and served to the table in timely fashion. Evening entertainment was good fun.

12 booked for a meal, staff friendly but don't think they could cope with the amount, some of us finished our meal before the other meals came out. 2 people had their money back because the food was inedible, another had a replacement because the chips were still frozen. I certainly would not recommend. Such a shame, we have been coming here for years and the food was always amazing.

Pints arn't cheap but it's in a fantastic location and the staff are great. Foods decent too and a really clean pub with a good experience. Only reason for the 4 stars is most pints are £5+ but apart from that I do like it there and would happily come again.

Strange that people reporting new management. Visited and appears same people as last year and pub I believe is still on the market. The classic crown burger …. Well not available on a Saturday lunchtime Love to be wrong as pub deserves better….few furniture tweaks doesn’t compensate for underlying problems.

I was taken to The Crown yesterday evening by two good friends. It was my first time and I loved it. Very friendly staff and customers and a lovely atmosphere. I was so impressed that I took another friend there for lunch today - my second visit in 24 hours! The food was wonderful. I shall definitely be back! Well done everyone!

Four ales on tap and new management have re-introduced the old Crown burger. Tastes even better than I remember and I've been eating them for the best part of a quarter of a century. Happy days...

Pleasant staff but sadly fish and chips inedible. The fish had no taste at all.

It's great again. Good beers, updated regularly, red stripe on tap. Food is as it has always been for the last millennia. Good pub food and not £15+ a pop like some other places. Very reasonable. We had an issue with our order and the staff bent over backwards to get it right. And even gave my son a little treat.

Im working locally and have my family with me I must say the new owners are doing a great job very friendly and happy to welcome “outsiders” not just your normal local boozer great atmosphere and food I won’t be going anywhere else while I’m here

Went in at first for lunch and food was great! Has a jacket pot cheese & salad! Went back for the evening for a few drinks with my family & was greeted with lovely new owners who was very friendly and chatty. Have been back every night this week for drinks. Had dinner Friday evening and Food was served in good timing with great service, food was locally sourced and good value for money. Great atmosphere with regular punters and free football. Will be back for sure!

Superb steak and chips. Quality 2nd to none. Also ordered a chicken burger with chips. Came without salad but asked for a side and no hesitancy. They produced a fresh lovely side salad. Lovely staff. Nothing to much trouble. Highly recommend. Always been a lovely pub and even with new owners has the same welcoming local feel. Thankyou the Crown. Xxx

it is with a heavy heart that i have to say my worst every pub meal was served to me last night in my old favourite pub. To serve food of that standard is totally unacceptable and the cook should hang there head in shame....

Reopened in July 2022 under new management. We visited on a Thursday evening in early January and the place was very quiet. Only one other person there when we arrived and less than half full at closing time. That did mean that parking was easy! Big screen TVs showing football are not my taste - perhaps others agree and have stayed away. If you want a quiet evening then this is the place for you.

Manager is so rude and defensive when we said our food was cold he wouldn’t even talk to us. Very poor service and the food which we waited way too long for was poor quality too. Missed the point of customer service entirely!

Recently been taken over by new hands and they are really getting it back to the great pub that it used to be. New menu had a lot more variety and I had the fish and chips which was a big portion and very tasty....

Visited the pub on a few occasions recently. Great selection of drinks and wide variety food menu, great food deals too! Bar staff were all super friendly and chatty. Very reasonable prices. Will definitely be going lots more!
