I've had better meals that gave me food poisoning. Consistantly mediocre, under and over cooked.

It took 25-30 mins for my food (pancakes) to arrive, and when they did they were raw and rubbery in the middle.

I came here for brunch, but it was a letdown. We waited 30 minutes just for drinks and over an hour for the food, which wasn’t worth it—my bread was burnt. If you’re short on time or want quality, I’d suggest going elsewhere.

I have been to Southampton metricks for a long time, came to Woolston with already the same expectations and it didn’t came close to what I’m used to see with this company. I completely understand when it’s busy and things take time has I am a waitress myself. After ordering drinks took 35min to arrive and my food (eggs on toast) arrived more then 1h after. The response given to me was never about my food but my friends even tho I had ordered before her, once the waiter came with a plate of food he stopped and walked away saying “one second” and gave it to a different table. Making me getting even more stressed. Food came and it wasn’t nothing special. Well I hope it was only one bad day, just maybe next time communicate better on allowing people to know the estimated time or even be true with why it’s taking longer, cuz if I had an honest answer I wouldn’t be here complaining. My friend wanted to ask for a refund and leave but I thought once food came we would be okay but then it just disappointed us Just make sure if u do come here and ur in a rush to ask about how busy they are and if food will come out on time and preferably in condition

Great pizza and beer with a friend tonight. Good service and thoughtful and attentive to allergies etc. Sadly very grubby and the toilets felt sad and sketchy!

IGNORE THE SCAFFOLDING! THEY ARE OPEN! Coffee in Mettricks is way better than anywhere else in town! They also have really nice teas, like the Detox and beer on tap. Food is yummy too.

Crazy, hour wait for toastie and chips. The waiters walked around for 15 minutes trying to find the right table. Watched them come and try give us other peoples food as they don't seem to know which food is going to which table despite numbers being on everyone!

I recently came here with a friend who has just moved to the area. This place in my opinion was lovely. I had pancakes, bubble tea and it was incredible. I also had a coffee which was beautiful!!! It had a lovely atmosphere, lots of people working with laptops which just shows it's a great place to be! I can't wait to come back again sometime soon!

I pop in today to give it second chance. Previous time my food order was forgotten through ticket issue, they were only three customers included me so error should be spotted straight, anyway apologised and get refund coz ran out of time that day to wait longer. However today ordered cheese and bacon hash browns, like name said should included bacon which i havent got it at all, also food was just warm. No excuses for that coz menu is not big and my food included only three ingredients. Just left place disappointed and bit angry. Maybe I should speak with manager but decided to write review which I hope make impact to improve quality of the service. I used to like this place but I not wanna be treat like that, just feel waste my time and money. Maybe pop in for coffee somepoint but I dont think so will order food anymore there.

I wasn’t impressed. Expensive coffee which may be roasted in-house but the blend needs less Robusta and more Arabica. Table was sticky. But the place was busy so it must have something. NB I didn’t try the food, just coffee so there may be points to be won.

Lovely staff and location. Food is absolutely shocking unfortunately. Hate food waste, but left most of my meal to be binned. 3 star only due to the fact that the view is great and the person serving me was very nice.

I had eggs florentine, it was absolutely lovely and the chai tea latte, it was very nice.

Went there before going to take that concert last weekend. Did the same thing 5 years ago too. What a disappointing visit this time! I had heard from friends that the food quality had gone downhill so we had already decided we were just going to drink. Asked staff about cocktail offers and was told 2 for £14 all day. Sampled a real ale which was great. The cocktails were also great. Sat down to relax and literally are hands or elbows were sticking to the table! Moved to different table and exactly the same! Moved again and the same! Staff came over to serve a drink and I went to order some cocktails and was told by the same staff member that the offer was over! And also they were closing a hour earlier because of a private function! I would be horrified if I hired that place with the tables being so sticky! Very disappointed !

An nice sunny Sunday time to have breakfast ,sat down and went in to order veggie breakfast all round two without avocado one without egg and the wait was on , not long after two veggie breakfast cold one meat breakfast waiting staff argue that that’s what we ordered sent back all food staff returned with wrong orders and cold again couldn’t go through it again for the price they charge give it a big miss better off going to Wetherspoons at least you get what you order and it’s hot

I like this Branch of Mettricks because the atmosphere is so relaxed and the staff are very good. The beer is slightly expensive. However, it is one of the best places to drink and relax in Woolston. In short, I love it!

Couldn't get served. Couldn't even get a member of staff to acknowledge me. Went to the Fox and Hounds in Lowford instead. Mettricks staff should go here to see great customer service from all members of staff.

Just walked out. 4 people in the queue. No acknowledgement from staff. Waited 5 minutes. No acknowledgement from the staff. Left

The food was ok, had about a 20 min wait. Unfortunately the restaurant is cashless which is not signposted anywhere, there should be a sign at the door to note that it is cashless. The servers were not friendly, we were ignored a few times when we needed help with something.

If your looking for a decent full English breakfast avoid this place. What you get is a small portion, under cooked eggs and at a high price.

First visit and not impressed. Bordeing on the verge or arrogant attitude (male staff member), very sticky tables, sound system needs updating as too loud and no base so very tinny, prices are slightly over average so not a good all round experience overall. Wont bother going there again. Shame as a local alternative to a pub but....

We usually come here and have a lovely meal. Today the chips were cold and my scrambled egg was. We asked to have it re made and it came out again. Chips were uncooked now hot and also did not have the lovely coating on My scrambled egg was warm but the whole plate was swamped with sauce and I mean the whole plate was slop. I had a refund and decided to have a cake instead as we were hungry we were charged for them and they had no taste and were not nice at all both cakes cost £8 were left on the table. To add when I went to ask about my food the lady making coffee told me to move as she was busy. I had to stand in the queue In front of your new customers to complain where I was trying to be discreet for you. The chef had a long beard uncovered which I don’t think is food and hygiene protocol. Sorry but since Mia left and you opened West Quay and changed your menu this place is doomed we will not be back. REN did try and when he is there all Is good but he’s not today and it’s full of attitude and poor quality food. Sam the assistant manager did try but is too nice and young this place needs an older manager ti take charge. On another note there were 6 dogs here today which is too much barking and growling at each other. Also there are people with no food or drink taking tables of 6 up for hours. I took the food back so could t take photos of that sorry which is a shame.

This place became our regular place to sit and relax, very friendly staff, great drink selection, you must try their berry berry tea.

Very nice breakfast. Coffee is really good. (Flat white with coconut milk and americano). Avocado eggs were perfect. Full English breakfast is a bit too salty. Carrot cake is delicious. Overall atmosphere is cosy, spacious room, pets are welcome here. They also have tables outside. There is only one person serving - takes orders at the bar, serves dishes and pours beverages. I would expect at least two, especially in busy morning hours.

Best Eggs benedict I have had. Definitely be going again. We all had different food and it was lovely. Sunday morning breakfast was great. Thank you.

This looks like a nice little place but the food took ages to come and then wasn't that good. You'd think if you'd waited 20/25 minutes for some chips they'd be properly cooked? I doubt I'll go back.

We spent £25 on cake and drinks this morning. The place was dirty at 9.15 am. 2 toilets dirty and skid marks on the toilet. Same in baby changing room. Floor was not swept or mopped from night before. It was black with dirt. We told staff when we left and was told we are getting a new floor. Mmmmm you just need to clean it. Standards of cleanliness is shocking. I find it hard you got a 5 star rating last year. Very disappointed.

Mettricks has a lot of potential, but addressing these issues could significantly enhance the customer experience, aligning it with the high standards their hardworking team strives to achieve.

ordered a breakfast and the young guy that served me was just rude. No customer service didn’t clarify the order then when food arrived the smallest portion of food. Not worth it really especially when staff can’t be bothered to listen to the customer.

Great full English.... Got there about 9:30am plenty of space, busy by the time we left at 11am, no surprise that it's popular. Highly recommend

Popped in for coffee and a bit to eat while waiting for my car to go through it's MOT. staff where friendly and welcoming when not stood by the kitchen door chatting amongst themselves. The atmosphere was some what ruined by the 'business' man having a phonecall on loudspeaker in the corner. Then that brings me on to the food.... it says along the top of the menu the following - "ALL OF OUR FOOD IS MADE INPROPER KITCHENS BY PASSIONATE CHEFS USING REAL,HIGH QUALITY INGREDIENTS. WE USE LOCAL BUTCHERS, BAKERS & FRESHFOOD SUPPLIERS SO YOU KNOW THAT OUR FOOD DOESN'T JUST TASTE GOOD; IT IS GOOD!" Now from my experience this morning I can on imagine the chef must of run out of passion or was on holiday and someone had been karted in off the street. As the 'local butchers' sausage in my sausage sandwich looked as if the 1st time they where cooked was yesterday. Honestly the casing was as tough as old boots. And the outer layer of sausage meat itself was dry as well. Not to mention the price, the price that made me weep slightly as I ordered it. (This was before knowing it was going to contain yesterday's sausages) £8 for a sausage sandwich! Even if this was cooked perfectly 8 quid is a bit steep. But what I got was a car crash of sausages on some average bread. Only made edible by the HP sauce I added. It doesn't matter how high-quality the ingredients are if it's over cooked it will taste rubbish. I suggest they find some passion for the chef that was on this morning that or find a new one. As no real chef would of have been proud to send out what I received today. I won't be eating here again, also the coffee isn't all that either.

Food took 40 minutes to come. Chips were lukewarm, and for some reason they had toasted my bacon sandwich, which I had not asked for. Restaurant was cold.

Came in for lunch today to find that the menu is now half the size and of the small selection of items left not all were available. Not a massive deal but annoying as we had already decided what we wanted before coming. The big issue though was the price, £38 for what you see in the picture + a hot chocolate that was forgotten about. £8.50 for cheesy chips and bacon and the size of it was the same as my chips.... that are still £4.50. Just feel like the portion size has reduced and the price has gone up. Still nice tasting though I can't fault them there. But... The food came out warm at best with my steak being stone cold 🥶. Plus the two glasses my wife picked to share a drink with me both were dirty with one containing part of a blue cleaning cloth. UPDATED due to chat with new management. He over herd my wife asking for a clean glass at the bar due to the others being dirty and came to speak with us in person. The first thing he did was refunded the entire meal + drinks and apologised for the exspirnce we had. This was definitely a shock as we had not requested this. He then explained why the menu had been reduced and listend to our feedback regarding the portion sizes and how they had changed from the previous year. We explained that in the past we would have never begrudge paying the slightly higher prices for items on the menu due to the portions size and food quality being so good. The reduction in portion size was definitely unexpected hence our upset. So my orginal review of 2 stars is now 4 stars and I will be returning in a couple of month to see if this exspirnce was a one off and the improvements the manger said would take place have.

Update 2023 : lots of gluten free options for brunch and lunch. Great cappuccino with oat milk and hot dark chocolate. Nice spacious room, so there is a lot of space between tables. There is also a big outdoor sitting space . The food took 30 min, but the avo toast and the full English breakfast were really nice. The avo toast was very tasty and quite spicy , lots of chilly flakes.

The lunch time Club Sandwich accompanied with Herby fries was really tasty, filling and a temptation to return. A superb cup of coffee also.

The place was a quarter full if that . And took 35 minutes for scrambled eggs on toast and eggs florentine . Dirty spoons for coffee and table was sticky .

Pretty average food although the fries were good. Interior a bit bland and the first table we sat at was covered in crumbs.

I come to mettricks most weekends whether it’s brunch with friends or coming on my own for a good coffee and quiet time reading my book. What I love about mettricks is it’s suitable for any occasion, family meal out, business meeting, independent work space, Friday night drinks with the girls or a lil self date! The food has never been a disappointment with a variety of sweet and savoury options as well as pastries and cakes if you fancy a light bite.

A lunchtime meal of poached eggs on toast with a latte- eggs hot and with lovely runny yokes. Great service with background,music resulting in a relaxed atmosphere. Recommended 👍

Absolute shocking service, went in there today for breakfast slash lunch, the premises was at approx 30% capacity so not too busy, was told 45 minute wait for food, ok I’m prepared to wait that long, after 25 minutes we still hadn’t got our drinks, I questioned the waitress who said sorry it’s a five minute wait for drinks, erm am I missing something here?? Food finally arrived after just over an hour wait, although plentiful everything but the beans (obviously microwaved) on my big breakfast was cold!! How after an hour to prepare it. Very dissspointed £40 down the drain, needless to say I will not be coming back and will advise others not to bother. Unfortunately the place seems entirely staffed by young people and there appears to be no leadership or management skills.

Weekend busy day. Was given warning that food would take 40mins. An hour later, still had 4 tickets in front of us. Clearly could not cope with capacity. Avoid if it looks busy. Mediocre coffee.

Food is always good however if you are wanting somewhere for a quick bite this isn't the place.

We used to come here and loved it here.but last night I ordered pizza which i knew its not big from previous experience but what we got was smaller than small. It was a palm size pizza which wasn’t worth £11. I wouldn’t pay even £5. Plus it was undercooked. After asking where is the rest of the pizza we got chips to share for free which was great, but also felt like Acknowledgment of something’s not quite right. I am giving 1stars and hoping that the management or owners will do something to change the place back to what is used to be like. Not just the food. The toilets at 10am not looking like been cleaned for days and 8pm you don’t even want to know. Hope someone there is listening

Visited with a friend, and we had a coffee outside, overlooking the water, which was lovely. It always takes a while for anything to get to the table, so it's not the place for you if you're in a hurry. I had a latte, and they seem to come in a glass cup with no handle. So you either can't hold if it's hot or it's lukewarm. Usually, the latter. I have returned in the past, but always forget to ask for a normal cup. I enjoy going to Mettricks, but it has its drawbacks.

I like Mettricks as a brand, and really hope for all the success possible, but this location always just feels empty and lacking in real ambience. The food and drink is good, but that's sadly not everything when you're socialising. Also, the drinks menus were literally replaced middle of an evening with new ones that were more expensive. Quite why the staff couldn't do this for the next day, instead of rolling it out in the middle of service, I'm not sure. Portswood and City Centre are both much more pleasant in terms of having a nice buzz to them.

Just popped in for a coffee and a gossip with friends. We didn't have food but what I could see looked lovely. The place is clean and tidy. The staff helpful. Dogs are allowed in too. Plenty of seating inside and outside

I give 4 star as waited nearly an hour for my coffee. But a nice comfortable busy atmosphere being weekend.

I might be biased as it is very local to me, but Mettricks is a great place for coffee, has a decent brunch menu and evening menu and is just a real nice place to go for drink, whether that's a coffee or something stronger in the afternoon or evening.

The best coffee I have ever had!

This was our second visit to Mettricks for breakfast, both times it was only just warm. My latte I could drink it one as it wasn't hot. The fried egg looked liked it had been run over, flat and over cooked. When I took it back to the bar area to show the girl behind the counter she wasn't at all bothered. Our bill for 2 came to £35, we will not be returning.

Not been for a couple of years due to poor service. Glad to see this has improved a little, although still seems very slow compared to similar establishments.

Food was amazing! I had the fried chicken breakfast wrap, really different and delicious! The service is a bit odd though, counter service which means ordering and paying whenever you do, we sat around for a good hour after finishing with no plates cleared as to be honest could have had another drink each but with a dog and baby it was a bit awkward to go to the counter to order.

There has been a definite improvement in the quality of the food. I had a full English with a nice flat white. Couldn't fault it. If I had to be really picky, I'd say it was more expensive than other places, but I was happy to pay for good food and service. Real friendly staff who were very accommodating
