Our first day in Southampton, my friend and I decided to take a walk through the park and came up upon this café. Not knowing the area we were unsure of where we would get a decent coffee . My friend being Italian is very fussy when it comes to good coffee!! This place exceeded our expectations . The staff here made us feel very welcome . Nothing was too much trouble. The service was fast. The sun-dried tomato and mozzarella sourdough toastie was fabulous and full of flavour . We also tried pancakes with coconut yoghurt, granola, and Compote. Finishing off with two flat white coffees. Excellent value for money. Would definitely return!

My favourite breakfast restaurant! The fried chicken is a must!!! So much food in such a tasty medley. Their coffee is home roasted and is BANGING sosososoososooo good especially a hazlenut iced latte hehe

Terrible. We have been walking through this place many times and decided to try it for the first time we got there for @ 15.10 No table service at all, ppl just standing and chatting. No greeting. Wanted to order food @ 15.20 been told the kitchen was closed. Looks like a Hipster place where anyone does what they want. Don't expect a service here

I Ordered two iced teas which took 25 minutes to come to the table and once it came it was warm and borderline tasteless. Along with this the staff were incredibly laid back considering the amount of people waiting to order.

Ordered a side of the Mex-Tricks vegan loaded fries, realised after eating some of them that they were loaded with bacon and chorizo underneath… when I very kindly and reasonable explained and asked for money back at the counter, instead of an apology I was greeted with defensive behaviour instead… “no, the guy with the white tee shirt on your table ordered the chorizo ones for you” To which I said “there is no guy with a white tee shirt on my table” - only then did he realise that it’s actually the restaurants fault that wrong food went out to wrong tables Don’t blame the customers for your mess ups, we aren’t stupid

Lovely staff, cool seating, I ordered scrambled eggs and they came out drizzled with oil, and the plate had an oil garnish all round the side, but as the plate was curved all of the oil went down to the toast. Eggs very underwhelming Would not order food there again, but 100% would go there for drinks

Love this coffee place. It looks amazing and we usually go on 2nd floor as it’s very cozy there. Coffee always nice. And chocolate cake is the best.

The place seems interesting, but... unfortunately the service is not very smart, the tables are dirty, there is garbage and crumbs on the ground, the prices are not adequate to the quality offered. If you want to have a nice time, unfortunately I do not recommend this place

I went to pay for my orange juice, but I was refused my payment of £4 in cash because they don't accept cash, I would say after waiting in line for over 10 minutes, there was no sign saying cashless, anywhere, I went off to spend my money somewhere else.

Ordered an Affogato Frappe and was really excited for it but they literally did not add ice cream so it tasted like water mixed with coffee. Have gotten it a few times before and liked it but literally threw this one away halfway through...don't think I'll go here again.

Fantastic place for a team lunch, solo lunch, love their brunch variety too! Great ice coffee. The team was attentive during our team outing and nothing was too much of a trouble. Thank you for your space, service and making our afternoon memorable!🙏🏼🌴

Really like the place but breakfast always seems to start an hour after opening. 10:00 on a Friday is just too late for early rises.

This place is nice. But… not enough staff. They definitely meed to hire more people. Queue is long…. No displayed prices on pastries. No displayed prices on drinks. You can find the last only on printed menu, if you will find one, while you are staying in the queue. Frappe is amazing

They say they are a bar as well as a coffee house and when you finish work at 5pm, they're closed. I went in just now as I fancied an alcoholic beverage where a smug lady said "we are closed"... what kind of service is that? They clearly are just a coffee house. There were no signage to state they were closed either. If you're a coffee lover then yes, Mettricks may be for you. If you want to explore their bar side (which it clearly states they are) then no, don't risk it. You'll be disappointed.

Food and coffee was good just overly expensive for what you get. Staff were lovely and the atmosphere was great.

Absolutely cracking full English. Everything was perfectly cooked and the sausage and bacon were great quality. Nothing wrong with the service, but you have to order at the bar which is a shame when you're ordering food

Rich and creamy coffee, good atmosphere and incredibly polite and friendly staff

Tucked between an art gallery and a picturesque park, Mettricks was immediately an interesting place. Inside was a vibrant cooky decor with an open kitchen. The staff were very friendly, the prices were low (at least for nowadays) and the portion sizes were rather large. The coffee is to die for, and learning its fully prepared on site makes it that much sweeter. I'd fully recommend this place to waste away an afternoon in, or a spot for a pristine luncheon.

A super nice place to sit and have lunch with others. This is not a great place to actually eat lunch. I had a whole hot when I got there but they were busy and said that food should take 30 minutes. I love that they told this to us. However... even after 40 minutes, food did not come out. I paid over 5 pounds for brownie... and it was too sweet for me to even finish. I think this is a nice pace to sit and socialize with a cup of coffee ☕️. I also think that's it is a decent place to have a snack and study 📖.

Mettricks was amazing as usual! My fave place to go when I’m in the Southampton area. Top quality coffee, drinks and food. Their customer service is amazing! A must try 😊

First time having breakfast in Mettricks and what a fantastic choice. Amazing variety of food on offer, wonderful coffee and lovely service. I will absolutely be back here! It’s nice to support local business and when it’s this good they make it so easy!

Visited during the day. Lovely, comfortable atmosphere with young uni crowd. Great place for students to meet and work, but also a wide range of customers enjoying the ambiance.

Such a shame but what an awful experience at Mettricks recently. The female on the till was far from welcoming, everything felt like a hassle when I asked for a cake in a takeaway bag rather than a plate. When our food arrived, the menu had changed since our last visit so we asked staff if they had forgotten chips, which is when we were told it had changed. My friend and I both understand things change however when the food arrived, I politely asked the same member of staff to please fill up the squeeze bottle of mayonnaise (there were not any full ones in the main area). My request was not acknowledged, she walked off before returning 5 minutes later and shoving a ramekin of mayonnaise sliding across the table, fortunately it didn’t end up on my lap. Such a shame as I am local and was a regular visitor however will not be back.

Wonderful, generous and tasty brunch with lovely staff. Great coffee and delicious, healthy green smoothies finished with lime which makes all the difference. Eggs florentine came with a very decent amount of spinach unlike a lot of places, and perfectly poached , very large, eggs. Partner had a custom made brunch easily accepted by staff. Dog very welcome and all three of us well looked after. Charlotte was friendly and polite without being over the top and checked on us appropriately. The staff overall were good and encouraged the relaxed atmosphere. Not very busy, which was a plus. Very comfy. Would come again and highly recommend.

Great coffee, friendly staff and a comfortable place to relax.

Huge disappointment. The waitresses were unfriendly, unattentive and incompetent in the use of the till, overcharging me and getting both our orders wrong. I usually like it here but I will not be coming again. Did not check with us how our food was and was overpriced for what we were given. We expect some compensation as this was massively disappointing and staff made us feel unwelcome.

Amazing thick and flavourful hot chocolate! There’s also plenty of seating.

Brilliant atmosphere here . I had a gorgeous latte & the eggs benedict for breakfast and I was delighted with my choice and the service . The bread was GF so no bloating . The eggs were cooked to perfection and the bacon tasted so yummy . 10/10 would recommend for a nice relaxing breakfast

Visited 15 December 2023. Tables remained uncleared after customers left, despite plenty of staff standing around looking bored. Menu unimaginative and overpriced. Restrooms unserviced. Coffee just about passable. Will not visit again.

Absolutely great service - we came here as a college and they were exceptionally accommodating to us eating our own food upstairs. Helped keep our students and staff warm! Thoroughly enjoyed the coffees and teas too

It’s sometimes great sometimes a bit meh. Today was good - great staff, lovely and quick service despite it being busy.

Possibly the worst baguette I have ever tasted. Almost uncooked, unpleasant taste, looked unappetising. Flat white better.

Went in for breakfast. Service was very slow. The scrambled eggs were quite cold. The coffee was good but a little cold.

Big shout out to Jazz and Dylan (possibly Dillon, but I’m old) from the new west Quay coffee shop. Sometimes that extra little bit of service makes all the difference. Thank you.

We were looking for somewhere to have a quietish drink before a show (after a very noisy Turtle Bay) and this looked promising. But after 30 minutes we realised why it was nearly empty at 7 on a Saturday evening. I ordered a G&T and a bottle of Chenin Blanc wine. I then went to the loo. When I came back the bottle and drink had been delivered to the table in a cooler. 4 small glasses had been poured by my 19 year old daughter. But then we though the wine very harsh and I was surprised. Took the bottle out of the cooler and it was Sav Blanc. I took it back and the bar lady said - we don't have any Chenin Blank at the moment. I said we don't like Sav Blanc so I would have ordered something else had you said it was not available. The response was just blank! No apology or offer to make it right. Who serves a different drink to what was ordered without speaking to the customer first??!! We were there for another 30 mins but left as the music being played was clearly for the benefit of the staff not for the very few customers who seemed to have no interest in the 80s new wave being forced upon them. Won't be returning.

Food was cold and was waiting for ages for literal toast and fried egg which was cold. And I don't understand why they gave me butter on the side when the toast was covered in egg and bacon??? Like what was the point in that. The only good thing was the coffee

Given it was graduation day in the area I was surprised at how quickly food came. Friendly staff, great brunch menu, tasty food (went for the smoked salmon, cream cheese and pickles bagel with hash brown bites) and good coffee. What’s not to like. Glad it was recommended to me.

Best brunch we never had... Went with my two children to meet my Dad on Monday 25th September 2023 at the Guildhall Square branch in Southampton. Ordered 2 lattés and 2 lots of Eggs Royale at about 11:45. It wasn't busy at all. Maybe about four tables outside and one or two inside. Whilst there were 3 service staff working, only one guy actually seemed to be doing any work, the others were mostly chatting at the counter. Incidentally, they didn't stop their chat to take our order, the one guy working came over to take our order. So already, not the best. It took about 20 minutes just for our coffees to come out. I mean, Mettricks coffees are awesome and thoroughly enjoyed them, but not too sure why they took so long. We figured, any minute now out food will be here, because how long can it take to make what is essentially over-priced egg on toast right? Wrong. The two guys at the table next to us had their order brought out about 10 minutes after we got our coffees, which I thought was odd as they ordered after us, but, obviously ours must be right behind them, right? Wrong. Another 10 minutes (we've now hit 40 minutes since we initially ordered) and the waiter (not the chatting ones, the working one) brings out two plates of food, but looks confused. He has some eggs and bacon and pancakes. Not our order. He then realises that the table next to us had been given our order (I mean, not sure how the customers didn't notice that pancakes are not the same as eggs and smoked salmon, but whatever 🤦🏻‍♀️). The waiter apologies, explains the mistake, offers us the other ider (no thank you), apologises again and assures us our orders will come out soon and they won't take as long this time. Sigh, but ok, we don't have anywhere else to be and it's a nice day, and thankfully I brought my kids (nearly-2-year old twins) their own food which they've eaten so at least they're not starving. Surely our aforementioned over priced egg on toast really can't take too long right? I mean scrambling eggs takes like a few minutes, toasting bread a few more, I assume they're not actually smoking their own salmon out back somewhere? I mean, really, 10 minutes, tops right? Wrong. Waiter comes over empty handed after another 10 minutes (we're now at 50 minutes since ordering), offers us some more coffees, apologises again, assures us they won't be much longer. Free coffees? Great, thank you, because, really, it can't be much longer now right? You can guess the answer can't you? Oh yes, a big, fat WRONG! Another 10 minutes for our coffees! My children have been sitting in a high chair for an hour now! They're getting a bit restless. As am I. And hungry! Another 10 minutes! It's nearly 1 o'clock. Waiter is bringing out other orders. The guys that are our food have gone. He apologises again. I tell him, thank you, but it's been over an hour, don't bother. My children can't sit down any longer, we need to go, please refund our money. At this point, a man on a table near us pipes up and tells the waiter he's been waiting 45 minutes for his order! I feel for the waiter. He was on his own, carrying an inept "team." Not his fault. Refund issued, no problems there. Guy on the table near us has his cooked breakfast finally brought out. As we left, we asked him if it was worth the wait. He said most of it was cold! So, there you have it, best brunch we never had. Consequently I had Beyoncé's "Best Thing I Never Had" stuck in my head for the rest of the week. So, Mettricks, in the words of Queen Bae, "sucks to be you right now."

Food was nice, but came lukewarm. Having waited quite a while for the food to come, I just chose to eat it.

I think your chef needs to be mindful of customers can here him . I was appalled by his attitude and language whilst have my lunch. The F word was used on multiple occasions. My partner asked for a ham sandwich as I can’t have cheese. The waiter said he will ask chef. There was a very negative response and said it will be “dry as s###” and then proceeded to laugh. We also heard him saying “hun say there are some customers that you refuse to serve.” I was appalled by his attitude and response. This is supposed to be a nice environment to have lunch. Very unprofessional and off putting. Just before our cruise as well.

To start with, somehow they had run out of French toast, which I thought was just pan-fried bread? 40 minutes wait for the food without any warning and to be honest the place is not that packed. The food finally arrived and looked rather unimpressive, the taste wasn't great either. Never before have a struggled to cut through my pancakes. Overall, very poor experience and burnt, chewy pancakes.

Came in at 15:30 so I appreciate they are close to finishing food (4pm) but I can’t believe the avocado and toast they were happy to provide for £11. Untoasted soft white bread, slither of watery avocado, overdone hard poached egg and one, admittedly juicy, tomato on top. Really poor.

Popped in for breakfast while we were in Southampton. Oat milk latte was great. Food was decent - we had the eggs royale with smoked salmon (hollandaise sauce was really good), cheese toastie and open fried chicken wrap (take note that breakfast is served from 9am though they open earlier). Unfortunately, the food took quite long to arrive despite us being one of the first ones there (the cafe did get quite full after awhile). The other thing was that the wrap was a little cold and cheese was not melted enough on either the wrap or cheese toastie. Besides that, the interior of the cafe was nice and there’s plenty of seating as there are two floors.

What is a lovely setting was somewhat ruined by dirty tables, a dirty floor, a menu with a significant number of items unavailable and with a number of errors; items labelled as vegan but containing egg(?) and items with just veg not labeled as vegetarian or vegan. A shame. The coffee is comparatively expensive compared to other local cafes such as The Nest or Muse, and plant based milk costs an extra 30p on top. A cup of tea costs more than 50% more?! You're having a laugh. The food ordered was freshly made but not exactly hot either. We were given 1 napkin for the 2 of us, it's not hard to count to 2 really. Even the clock on the wall was off by 2 hours??

The worst full breakfast that I had also I spent £13.50 for it!! In the menu it says mushroomS! But how you can see in the photos it is just a little mushroom just 1 that’s it. The toasts were white and NO toasted. The butter was cold and hard so it was not point to put them on the white bread. The presentation needs improve. We asked one of the coffees in takeaway cup they brought all in takeaway cups. If you want coffee it is okay but I dont recommend the breakfast

Unfortunately my order didn't go through, however I paid for my friend's, so didn't notice. All their food came they all ate it up. Mine never showed, when I went to the till to enquire, all I got was an apology and we swiftly left.

Came here as they’re a local company who roast their own beans, and the coffee was good! However it was a Saturday morning and I appreciate busy but only about half full over two floors. A 40 minute wait for hot food, I was informed when ordering and that was fine. But you would expect the food to be piping hot just finished cooking, it was lukewarm at best. Sadly it just wasn’t worth the wait which is a shame as I had high expectations from the reviews and feel of the place but it seems like the price has gone up and value has come down. £20 for a full English and a coffee is a bit steep. I’d come back for coffee and sweet treats but would look elsewhere for hot food.

Best coffee and brunch in southampton

Had the vegan full English. Avocado is Guacamole and served on undercooked white sliced bread. Not to my taste. Silken tofu was used for the vegan scrambled egg, gave it a runny scramble affect. Again not to my taste. Having the toast separate would have given the choice and not made it soft. The strawberry smoothie was very watery. Used to be better.

Service was a little too relaxed. Took a while to get served and the tides were out on our pints. Having a full pint is a prerequisite these days 4 repeat custom.

The staff here are lovely but unfortunately everything is really dirty or stained. The glasses smell strange, almost fishy. The teas are also very watery and tasteless although the staff tried their best to remedy this. Food is great, good location and great staff. I think they need a new dishwasher.

We were regulars during our university years and we thought it would be nostalgic for is to return. However, we were shocked to see how much it’s declined. My partner ordered our food and it took over 35 mins for a poached egg and beans on toast, and a breakfast to arrive. My poached egg was returned as it was stone cold, as was elements of my partners breakfast. I hate complaining but it was as if our food was left under a heat lamp for some time. They were super quick to remake my eggs and were super friendly. Service wasn’t amazing, but there was one waiter that was smiley, approachable and helpful. His personality and customer service skills made the visit more enjoyable. We will come back as we understand that sometimes there are blips and bad days. My partner did compliment the sausages!!! ☺️

Do not order the southern fried ‘soul gravy’ pancakes, it’s a salty disappointment. The table next to us ordered them as well and promptly left after trying them, with some choice words. Wasted money.

Absolutely awful. Avoid if possible. We visited this weekend and it wasn't very busy. We waited 20 mins for coffee and a further 40 mins for the food. When it came it was burnt and underseasoned. The staff were rude.

An hours wait for poor quality, burnt food and some absolutely dreadful and really rude service. Honestly one of the worst places I've ever seen. I'd say avoid it like the plague but honest the plague might be a bit more enjoyable than this.

I love my coffee, and this place hits the the note. Awesome breakfast and friendly staff. Don't pass it by, it's a hidden gem.

Been sat waiting for 1 hour to receive a simple full English breakfast that takes less than 10 minutes to cook. Everyone around me has had their food brought out to them and left. Poor service and kept telling us to wait 5 minutes extra but an hour went buy. Food eventually came and it was the wrong order, so now waiting longer to correct out order. Poor management!! In the end they said it would take an extra 15 minutes to rectify the mistake, and then when I asked for a refund, it’s cashless so they struggled doing it, and can’t see my refund in the bank!!

Waiting for 50 minutes now. Ordered a bagel. Cannot comment on food because I've had none yet. Utterly ridiculous. Reminded the waiter but nothing.
