One of the few places that still cater to the real alt crowd. Shockwave and Metal:Remixed are always a blast. The djs are great and the environment is relaxed and fun

Highly recommend for a great night out, staff are delightful! Have a kinder they look awful but taste AMAZING!

The food here is always tasty, I enjoy coming here with friends as they always play great music and the staff are always friendly, they have a massive outside area for smokers which i enjoy because i can get quite chatty they have a couple of pool tables aswell just incase you wanted something else to do all in all my favourite place to go drinking.

Great place for an alternative night out! The DJ was excellent & played loads of our requests (Saturday night- Shockwave). All the staff in there are super friendly & helpful. There’s a huge outdoor area with a pool table & a games room! Highly recommend.

It's usually slip knot type of music but it was drum and base as well as rave music tonight. Really good fun as older and young people there. Very chatty and everyone was enjoying themselves, no trouble at all. Great fun.

If you visit before 9pm cocktails are 2 for £7(!) and the food is great and very reasonably priced as well

My favourite haunt when Im back in my hometown of Southampton. Great pint cocktails, which are good value for money - especially happy hour 2 for 1. Great outdoor space which is always where the atmosphere is at, regardless of the weather. Pool tables are a great new (?) addition.

Overly strict on ID on men clearly over 25 with beards. Would accept a photo of ID on phone even though this isn't legal ID. Just being jobs worth for no reason and missing out on revenue at a time where the bar was completely empty

Wesley the doorman is the most okayest doorman to have ever doormanned a door

No bitter or dark beer, on draft WHY - loads of different Lagers, only 1 bar open, so for the size of place, really bad service. 3 young girls behind the bar,only 2 serving at a time, all with long straggly hair, that would obviously get caught in people's drinks.Wont return.

Always a lovely night out. One star taken off though because although wheelchair accessibility is decent, there is no ramp for the front access step. Security are always helpful though, and bring me through the fire exit. Patio seating is lovely and toasty with the ceiling heaters! Great for large parties. 2 for 1 pint cocktails do make it easy to get drunker than you mean to though!!! Music and vibe have always been good every visit, nice area to dance for those able to. Security always take any harrassment seriously, and it's generally a very lgbtq+ friendly crowd. The addition of the late night menu is absolutely superb. Perfect night out food with delicious vegan options ensures a great time for all!

Absolute scumbags in here. The manager that was working when I come in was rude and wouldn’t help me despite being a polite customer all night. Staff are all weird and just as unhelpful. Just not a nice place to be. Shame because the drinks are great, it’s just run by idiots.

I have really started to enjoy coming to this bar for a cocktail or four! This is a very entertaining bar situated in the heart of Beavois Valley. Not only is there a wide selection of drinks available including the famous hobbit cocktails, there is also 3 pool tables and an entire games room which includes Pinball and a Nintendo 64 with Mario Kart installed and set up ready to go! Purchasing a jug saves you money as opposed to 2 pints of cocktails, and the DJ actually plays a song when you request it which seems to be rare these days!

Absolutely amazing atmosphere and the cocktails were on point, cheap aswell, love it, brilliant place to go with friends, massive garden aswell, never had the food, that's if they actually do any, but there's nowhere to rate the drinks, so I put food at 5 stars.

Decent bar/ club, wasn't a fan of the music on a Wednesday night but it's alright (stays open later than hobbit so it's a good place to stop off at on your way to a club or if you want to stay out longer). Outdoor area is quite nice, there's a pool table too

Below is old review but still the same even though I know owners aware of aggressive door staff and unwelcoming staff. Went on Friday night on a payday weekend and was dead inside when used to be vibrant and banging even on a Wednesday night. So sad to see an institution die. Used to be an inclusive and great bar but in the last year or so has changed. Actively seem to be discouraging 'older' clientele and just want students. Unnecessarily aggressive door staff who demand and scan ID even for a quiet Monday night pint. Same happening in the partner business The Hobbit. Lost a lot of its soul.

I used to come to the Star every week. It was unique, diverse and fun, and easily the best in Southampton. Now aggressive and rude door staff (asking me what I'm wearing, where I've been), face scanning on the way in on any day of the week, and a very standard bar. I took these pictures at midnight on payday Friday. Outside was busier, but this used to be full. The picture of a DJ behind a cage on an empty dance floor about sums up how the place has changed.

very rude, ignorant and just not professional member of your door staff, refused my friend entry when i questioned why he had said “personal issues” my friend has never been to this venue although knew him, had never had any problems with the guy or any confrontation with him, this is just rude and unreasonable for a member of your staff to feel they have the power to turn away a person for no good reason at all, especially considering there was also another guy we knew who was a part of your door staff who just stood there and let him speak to us that way even knowing both of us as friends knowing that we wouldn’t have been a problem

Similar vibes to The Hobbit with a younger audience, they have their own little club dance floor area and great cocktails. A decent outdoor space too. The Shooting Star has massively improved in the last 5 years (new management) and I LOVE the music!! Who doesn't like metal/emo/alt/pop punk/rock eh!

My party decided to stop by as we heard The Shooting Star was a great venue that served a diverse crowd and played alternative music. However we were turned away at the door by a really stand offish bouncer for the reason that my partner was "drunk". This could not have been the case as my partner didn't act out of the ordinary and was pretty much sober despite having only had one beer from the dinner earlier. The only real reason everyone could honestly think of was perhaphs the bouncer found my partner's Pride hat offensive? Anyway, it wasn't worth our energy trying to push it as there are countless other bars where we could spend our money in. Would give 0 stars if it were an option👎🏼

Nice cocktails but probably need more outdoor seating heater, I can only see one for like over 10 table in the outdoor seating area which is a main part of this establishment.

Great bar. Had a great time there during my birthday party. All I could want is more real ale but the craft larger are great.

Security just d**kheads, didn't let in because have no idea why. Ask them.

I used to love coming here but something has changed recently. The security used to be much more relaxed and friendly. That has been replaced with cameras and questions about clothing on the door. Security walking around the place much more. No DJ Hammy on a Friday anymore which pulled in a really diverse crowd that you couldn't find elsewhere. Feels more like the Hobbit now. It's still a good space for alternative music and people but it's lost a bit of its charm.

Always good, especially made the effort during the Covid times. Still has the fun cheap spirit filled cocktails and always a chilled place to head into.

Good drinks at reasonable prices, excellent venue and atmosphere, can recommend to anyone that would like the scene

INCOMPLETE WHEELCHAIR ACCESS In general it's a good bar, however I put 'not recommended' because the dance floor area is not wheelchair accessible. Luckily I am able to walk a little so with the help of my friends carrying my chair for me I was able to go on it, but many wheelchair users are not able to stand and so would be excluded from this otherwise great space. I feel like this doesn't comply with the 2010 Equality Act which requires businesses to make reasonable adjustments to make sure disabled visitors receive the same service as able-bodied visitors, especially as sometimes entry is charged here. If the dance floor had a ramp then it would be the perfect bar! Other than the dancefloor, the wheelchair access is good. The man at the door was very helpful and there is an entrance without steps. There's a wheelchair accessible bathroom and there aren't any steps to get to the top decking area. There's plenty of room to move around. I'm hoping they'll be able to install a ramp soon so I can go back.

First time here and brought back many memories of older hobbit and dungeon nights. Drinks were spot on and pretty well priced. Smiley and helpful staff. Will visit again soon

Well another place on the map of Southampton pubs i will never visit anymore , what a shame thet this place joined global paranoia and will not accept cash anymore, bye bye shooting star we will not see each other ever again .

Great local venue for a Friday or Saturday catch up with your mates. There is often also a DJ on with rock or alternative music. To those who are complaining about covid rules, get over yourself. The venue have said many times that they would be strict with their one way system and such, so if you don't like it then go somewhere else. I think that are doing an amazing job and there will be more cocktails for me and my buddies. 🍹🍹🍹

Very nice, affordable drinks and food, the patio is a a good area to have drinks with friends. The security guy was extremely nice and managed to find a table to fit us all !

Saw an epic fight take place, was worth turning up.

I know there is a requirement to have certain rules in place but the Shooting Star is now super unwelcoming. The list of rules is a mile long and the staff seem pretty overzealous about it. seen other places that manage to at least have a half way relaxed vibe. And they assume everyone is happy to use an app for everything.

Door staff very efficient and do very well managing the covid regulations. On the other hand though the bar staff have no backbones and are incapable of dealing with any issues what so ever!

Amazing outdoor area with cheap cocktails and alternative music. Strict Covid rules in place here which is great seeing as how busy it gets. Great tasting pint cocktails; which have unusual colours; great value and amazing value during the happy hours. Popular with students. Table service currently with app.

Always loved this bar during non-COVID times but they have really done an amazing job since reopening. Great outdoors area, decent number of drinks and very friendly staff.

Absolute joke, queued up for half an hour to be told that can’t go in as wearing casual trackie bottoms, and told if put jeans on your more than welcome to go in. Stereotypical not allowing anyone in with trackies even tho just a casual low class pub.

I came in under the pretence that it was BOGOfree for classic cocktails and shooters 18-00-2100 EVERY DAY. However, I ordered drinks and got told that the offer isn't available ATM. The bar is currently offering another offer but this wasn'tt said OR advertised ANYWHERE!!! Order is by APP ONLY. Around 20 tables in the garden, some with heating and MOST covered. Reasonably priced, but not great.

A member of the security team had poor communication skills and was actually very rude. Left us not wanting to return, which is a shame because I used to like this pub!

Do not go until the coronavirus restrictions are lifted. You have to order via their website, which is fine if it worked. But during a two hour evening where we placed 6 orders, 3 of them did not arrive/were lost. They had a nice cocktail menu but the system was so shocking that it's hard to recommend until they lift the restrictions. We often went an hour without any drinks! Didn't seem too busy so not really sure what happened.

This is a fun place to be. Amazing drinks and simply a nice chilling environment.
