I could literally repeat my last review about Trident, in fact, I will - see below Just a great visit as always, never been disappointed here. We make it our business to visit Trident every time we visit Sussex and they have never let us down. All items were freshly cooked and piping hot. Whatever they use as a batter coating is superb and make for very light eating. A most enjoyable Dinner. Well done and thank you as always Trident

We live in France so on the rare occasion we have to return to the UK we like to eat some traditional foods. We went to Trident for a Cod and chips lunch. This restaurant did not disappoint in any way. The welcome and service from the waitress from Liverpool was exceptional as was the coffee and food. The fish was beautifully white and the batter was non greasy and crunchy. The chips were hot and fresh and the Tartare sauce was light, creamy and very tasty. I would recommend this restaurant for any lover of fish and chips. Bob.

After many happy customer years looks like Trident under new management. Friendly & courteous as before. Shame fish & chips aren't ... Piece of large haddock definitely didn't match up to last 12 months portions. Questioned - this is small, No it's large ... at £14. Ouch. Chips were soggy & wasn't busy. Fish, chips and mushy peas, £15.20. Enjoyed what I had although somewhat greasy, but absolutely not worth the money. Won't be buying from there again or anywhere else for that matter.

We had a delivery of 2 large cod and 1 large chips. We were disgusted at the portion size and the appalling customer service when I rang up to complain. I appreciate costs have gone up, but prices have too. We have been fairly regular customers over the years, but sadly no more.

My wife, our two young daughters, and my 90 year old mother have been fans of The Trident for a long time. Whether eating a takeaway at home or, more recently, enjoying a sit-down meal in their spotless and attractive restaurant, the combination of superb food - freshly cooked and reasonably priced - and friendly but professional staff, for whom nothing is too much trouble, is pretty much unbeatable. If only all restaurants and takeaways could be like this! Highly recommended.

Nice place to eat in for fish'n'chips. Good quality fare in a nice environment with friendly staff, certainly as good as anywhere else in the town. Well done Trident Plus free parking nearby!

Wandered in for fish and chips last night, as the place we were expecting to go was full. Turned out to be a good move. Excellent fish and chips in their stylish eating area/restaurant. Nice friendly staff. Fish and chips were fresh and tasty. Will return with friends.

It was definitely a 50/50 experience. We went in for a take away order, not into a restaurant. Everyone was nice and you could see they were quite busy. We waited 30+ minutes for our order only to come home and see a bottle of onion vinegar was missing and replaced with a pickled onion. A separate order in our party was missing curry sauce. Fish was great, chips were okay and curry sauce (for the ones that received it) had mixed reviews. I don’t know if we’ll go again. Maybe we could try the restaurant so there are no missing items.

This was a treat with our visit to see my daughter and family. Very friendly staff and a very nice restaurant. Fish & Chips for 3 of us and ribs for 4th. Two grand daughters opted for sausage & chips (their meal also included a drink and dessert). Adults also opted for desserts and all-in-all the food was very nice indeed. Portion size was adequate although not large. Price, including drinks was, however, a little surprising but not in a nice way. Would return although I would say the prices were a little!!!!! on the high side.

My partner and I paid £45 for 1 starter , 2 fish & chips, half a larger , and 1 soft drink. The restaurant being empty should have given us a clue that this place is not popular. Service was slow and we had to ask after half an hour where our food had got to; I think they forgot as were too busy cleaning the glasses and bar! The starter was decorated with dirty wilted lettuce! The only positive was once the fish and chips arrived it was good; not a lot though. Would never recommend; far better fish and chips in Eastbourne and half the price.

Best fishcake and chips I've had - and I've had a few! chips were cooked to perfection crispy out, meting inside, good enough to eat all on their own.

I ordered at 5.15pm and got a confirmation that my pre-order would be delivered by 6pm. Cost just under £45. I waited outside at 5.55pm and waited then at 6.10 pm I rang them and asked where the food was to which I was told that they can get busy and that is why it is late, made me feel like I was stupid for expecting the food at 6pm. I pointed out that I had paid £7 including tip for delivery but got no response. Eventually the food turns up at 6.30pm. The milkshake is completely melted, and the two deserts are missing. I ring back up and tell them to which they tell me that the desserts definitely left the shop so they will ring the delivery man to come back with them, it is now 7pm and no desserts. The 12oz Home Burger with cheese and salad and mayo looked really nice but literally tasteless, a couple of times I thought my taste had gone and it might be covid but fortunately had a can of diet coke nearby to confirm I could still taste. UPDATE - 19.01 - the delivery guy has turned back at our house, we have the desserts now! Check out the images, the sticky toffee pudding is still frozen and rock hard; and the cheesecake is absolutely revolting, I don't understand how you can go wrong with cheesecake? Unbelievably poor service and food! I am so, so disappointed. What a waste of time and money.

First time for us at this Fish and Chip restaurant. Mainly because they provide gluten free food in addition to a wide range of other take away options. First class friendly service following strict handling procedures for those with gluten intolerance. The portions are generous and beautifully cooked. Lovely crispy batter, moist fish and nicely cooked gluten free chips. Gluten free food is offered every day unlike some establishments.

My wife and I always visit Trident when we visit Eastbourne and we took a friend, who is very particular about Fish and Chips, with us on this last visit. The verdict all round was that this is still one of the best Fish and Chip Restaurants we visit. Everything was piping hot and the quality of the pieces of Cod was superb, as was the way it was cooked, i.e. batter was light and cooked right through - no soggy batter on the inside like you get in a lot of places. We'll be visiting again as soon as we have a return visit to Sussex.

The service was very friendly. Staff knowledgable about gluten free and I was given separate sealed ketchup packs and gluten free vinegar. I do not eat out very often because I worry about cross contamination being cealiac but this was a really tasty meal and the others in my party who had normal fish and chips all really enjoyed a very tasty meal

We visited the Trident fish restaurant on a day visit to Eastbourne because we had heard it offers gluten free fish and chips, which is hard to find. We were not disappointed. The food (gluten free and gluten containing) was really good. They understand allergy issues, the portions were a good size and a reasonable price. We will return. It is just a shame we don't live closer as we'd be regulars!

Well they say there is a first time for everything.Paying a whole fourteen British pounds to have the privilege of placing what must have been deep fried fescues in my mouth is certainly not what I wanted to try. After working a 13 hour day, it is safe to say I was ready to demolish my favourite cuisine.I am no chef. I understand that it is not easy to make a ‘god tier’ fish and chips meal, however it is pretty hard to cock it up to the woeful excremental tasting ‘thing’ I was served in a tampon structured box.Avoid this place, extremely over priced for dismal portions that will leave you more demoralised than driving a car with square wheels for an entire day. Hope this saves a potential victim from the trauma these psychopaths offer in the form of a “fish and chips shop”.

We went again first time since re build. Very tastefully completed you would not recognise the place. Restaurant was clean and tidy and the server was very pleasant. We had the Haddock and chips , and seafood basket . Batter was crispy and not heavy, fish fresh and cooked well. Chips ok , but not crispy. White bait or little fish was good as well. We took the grandchildren here for a special treat. My wife and myself together with two small girls aged 3 and 4 years respectively plus our 2 year old grandson. The restaurant has been recently re furbished and is clean and spacious. The staff are polite and attentive and the restaurant is family/child friendly. The food was excellent with fresh fish cooked in a light batter. The childrens' menu provides a main, a sweet and juice at a reasonable price. Well worth a visit. Thank you.

Fantastic decor,fresh and modern, the food was a delight , fish was fresh with a light crispy batter , the maple syrup cooked bacon was a particular highlight for me personally, the staff were friendly, efficient and attentive, and with attractive and tasty deserts, makes this a restaurant that we will be visiting again soon.

Had Light Batter cod fish and chips .in the restaurant We all agreed probably the best fish and chips we'd ever had. Women (sexist I know) have been known to rate an establishment on the toilets. They are immaculate.

My family have going here for years for carry out fish and chips. It’s been updated with a large restaurant and outdoor patio, the carry out shop is large with seating for a short wait when they are busy. The same friendly people are always serving. The fish is always great. Can’t beat it!

Had a great time here yesterday evening. Great food. Great service. Great value. We had 23 people. All got their food pretty much at the same time. We had a variety if fish, burgers and kids meals. All superb.

Went here this evening with my friend (we're both seniors) and asked for a child's portion, explaining that I've had bariatric surgery and can eat only very small amounts of food. It was refused, with the comment that children's portions are served only to those under the age of 14 years. I repeated that my stomach had been reduced in size, but the answer was still a flat 'no', with a comment that I could have fewer chips with my serving!

I have only had cod and chips to take away from Trident. The cod is always fresh and crisply cooked. The chips are crisp and dry - not oily or greasy. Good value.

This is an established Chippy that has been in the Old Town of Eastbourne for many years. Dine in, take out, seating outside, accessible toilets in Restaurant. Gluton Free Batter, and thinner batter if required.In my opinion the best chippy in Eastbourne

We visited today having read the reviews. I am Coeliac, hubby isn't and it's hard to find decent gluten free fish and chips. No today. Haddock (large) and chips went down a treat with two cups of tea. Hubby had the candy bacon burger and whitebait to start. It was all freshly cooked and delicious. The staff are really friendly and attentive. The restaurant is really modern and bright, clean and fresh. Would highly recommend.

Last evening 20 of us enjoyed an excellent meal in this restaurant. The staff were extremely pleasant, we were not rushed and all meals were delivered together and piping hot. We had all been to a concert and it was a fitting end to a lovely evening. Thank you

El servicio fue muy bueno y muy atento, con un personal amable que prestó atención adicional a nuestros niños para que se sintieran bienvenidos y cómodos allí. Small coffee is just that. Toblerone cake was delicious. Relaxing/slow service. Very obliging though. Newly refurbed toilets but toilet doors not helpful for elderly/disabled as quite stiff.

The newly renovated fish and chip restaurant is perfection. With a cosy clean extension added it really gives the place a lot of space. The fish is always exquisite and freshly caught. The chips are gorgeous, soft in the middle and crunchy on the outside. I’d recommend this to anyone who really enjoys some very well cooked fish and chips!

We always struggle to find a decent place to eat with two of us needing gluten free but Trident hit the spot. Offering mains and puddings that are gluten free. The food was priced reasonably and service was good. The restaurant is modernly designed and was clean.

3 of us went for a fish tea there. First of all we all wanted large haddock and chips, failed there due to not having any large haddock. 2 of the party then ordered regular haddock and chips and I had a so called 8oz beefburger and chips with so called salad and sauce. The haddock was more like a childrens portion and the burger seemed to be more like a quarter pounder but I was assured by the waitress that it was a 8oz. The so called sald has to be the biggest joke of all it consisted of 2 tiny bit of a lettuce leaf a slice of tomato plus a lemon wedge which I have no idea what that was meant for. Basically will never go back there.

I visit this place regularly, as not only are they really allergen aware, but their gluten free fish and chips is absolutely amazing. I’ve even convinced my family to try it, who now say that they prefer the GF version. Well done trident: great service and great food.

Having eaten at the Trident many times over the last 10 years I was pleased to see that at long last they'd beaten the planners and got their extension and rather smart refurbishment. However, the new look seems to have arrived with decreased efficiency.

I have bought takeaway fish n chips from here for a few years, but never bothered with the 'eating in' option. After a busy day decided to forego the pleasures of washing-up and take a table. Yes, it was a few more quid, but against that the surroundings were pleasant, lively and clean, the table service was brilliant and the product fresh, well-cooked and flavoursome. Might leave off that washing up altogether ...

I'm a celiac and I've been here twice for both dining in and take-away. Once when it was super busy, and once when it was very quiet.

We visited the recently refurbished Trident restaurant for traditional fish and chips yesterday evening. The new restaurant is stunning... Great decor and absolutely spotless. The staff were so friendly and helpful, and the food was as wonderful and fresh as ever. A great place to eat just got even better.

Have often had fish and chips from here over the years.

Arrived with the hope and promise of a great meal. Starters arrives minus one which took so long everyone else had finished. It was not great and was rushed so was more disappointing than if it hadnt come at all. Waiter then appeared to say he had lost our main meal order and so we had to re-order. One of us ordered the Skate which had said (if avalible) as it had been ordered once, and had been said they had.... Ordered second time due to lost order... Mains arrived minus skate... to then have waiter ask 'do you hate me?' To be greeted with the fact there was no skate. As everyone else had ordered decided to ask for jumbo sausage and chips to be given to mini sausages and told jumbo would take longer. After asking for bill we found that the sausage and chips had been added to the menu even after the appalling service. Head waiter didnt want to offer any discount to appalling service however after speaking to the lovely manager we received a great discount. Would love to return but unsure of service.

Visited today for a late lunch/ early dinner and we weren’t disappointed. The Trident has the usual fish and chip menu but also offers a range of other meals too. Brilliant food and service. Will definitely visit again.

I had friends visiting from London and after a lovely day out we went into the newly refurbished Trident. WOW is all I can say. The food was excellent, the service was friendly and efficient and we will certainly be going there again on their next visit.
