Pelican fish restaurant in Eastbourne

Just now got fish & chips from this chipper, proper chips, fish delicious, no salt as requested. Thanks, really enjoyed takeout, very efficient service. ☘️

Not bad at all. I thought my medium cod was a little small, but it was well cooked and tasty. Chips are not 'steak cut' traditional chips but are bigger than french fries. All in all I would go back.

Ridiculously small portions designed for tourists. Go to Church Hills in Langney for proper and fair portions, served with a friendly smile. Still hungry and down best part of a fiver for 'large' chips. Disappointing. There's a reason this place is empty outside the main holiday season.

This restaurant is great. The food was amazing & staff were very friendly. Both myself and my sister had the haddock & chips. It was delicious An all round excellent restaurant.

Great place for traditional fish and chips. The food was fabulous, hot, crispy batter with no oily residue and the chips were fresh and crunchy on the outside, soft inside, just like a chip should be. The service was friendly, efficient and prompt. Strongly recommend a visit if you’re out in Eastbourne.

Came here for my birthday,wife and I had 2×cod and chips! Came out very fast and hot! Mine was OK,my wife's cod could of been cooked a little longer for her! But that's her preference on how she likes it! Was nice

25 of us descended on the staff of Pelican Fish restaurant and we were well looked after from start to finish. The staff catered to our every wish, were polite and patient. The food was also very enjoyable. Would highly recommend.

Great chippy, reasonable prices and portions just right. Good choice on menu with a few other options. Staff attentive and toilets good but downstairs if you have mobility issues. All in all a great place for a seaside fix of Fish n Chips.

Been here for sit down 3 times and generally enjoyed it. Today had take away large cod/chips x 2 very disappointed and will not be going back. Cod ? was grey and far from fresh, batter soggy chips pale and dry. Nearly 30 quid for 2 portions, why do you let yourselves down by serving sub standard food coz in the long run you'll lose out.

Asked for chips for my son with no salt. The chef automatically put salt on them, checked the order, saw it didn't say salt or vinegar and gave them to me with salt on anyway. Also the have a huge juge of curry sauce that reheat for each customer so the same sauce is reheated about 15x a night. Revolting.

We enjoyed a Cod and Chips lunch. Delicious. The two staff on duty were friendly and efficient. My only disappointment was when the 'pot of tea' actually turned out to be a mug of hot water accompanied by a teabag. Notwithstanding this, we shall certainly go back again.

I was in the area for the first time for work reasons today and came across this place while having a walk. Went for a quick dinner this evening - food was freshly cooked and tasty. Great service. Felt welcomed and comfortable despite being on my own. Great that the restaurant is licensed so you can enjoy a drink with your meal if you want to.

Quick,fresh,good size portions, thank you To the Ukrainian girl Anna,who was very attentive even she was in her lunch break,and offered me some plastic cutlery in order I can eat comfortably.

One of our friends had recommended the pelican, so we went there after kayaking, and ordered 3 cods and a large plaice. The weather was beautiful and we were a bit wet so we sat outside to eat. We ordered dine in but received our food in a plastic bag with boxes in it. We weren’t given any sauces so my Dad went inside to grab some but a woman came up and said that we had to pay extra even though we were dining in. A little later, a woman in the kitchen started shouting and swearing at another waitress, all in all, a terrible experience

We decided to have lunch here today and it didn’t disappoint! I had a regular cod and chips and my fiancé had scampi and chips. Everything was cooked to perfection and the flavour of the fish and scampi was exceptional. My family is in the fish and shop business and I would highly recommend trying this place. The portions were plentiful, I couldn’t finish mine and the service was prompt, friendly and efficient. No service charge included so tip optional. Much better than the choppy across the road! 5 stars!

Best fish and chips, worth travelling from London just for this!

We stopped here after a long walk and it was great. We ordered a regular and a large fish and a large chips and gravy which came to £22. Really good fish and great chips. Would definitely recommend. The staff were busy but friendly. We sat outside which was lovely, a really nice place.

Food was alright. Fish was good, bit oily. Chips could have been crispier. They insisted on charging us 40p for a small packet of ketchup because we were sitting outside, when all of the tables inside have bottles of ketchup on for free.

OK so we wanted to go to Holiday Inn fish and chip shop across the street but it was closed so we tried Pelican. We were told to take a seat and would be served. We weren't so I ordered at the bar. Food was average apart from the large haddock which was smaller than the regular cod and undercooked. Portions were small, literally 6 onion rings in a portion and they are the small ones you get from the supermarket and fried to death. My local chippie is infinitely better than this place and in future even if every other restaurant in Eastbourne was closed, I wouldn't return. At least it was clean!

First visit to Pelican Fish & Chips with friends and family. We all had fish and chips. We decided to sit at the tables outside but despite ordering at the counter and paying whilst ordering we were not allowed any cutlery or plates. We were told food would be brought out to us when ready. Our food arrived in take away boxes in a plastic bag. Clearly we were sat at the table with a little one in the highchair ready to eat. When the food arrived in the take away packaging in the carrier bag tied up I returned to the counter as I asked staff for an extra take away box for the little ones to have some food. We were told we had to PAY for an extra take away box for the little ones. Having spent over £50 on food and drinks I was shocked at being asked to pay for an extra take away box so the little ones could share some of the adults food. Being so small they wouldn’t eat a kids meal as it wouid be too much. Other diners were sat at the tables inside with plates and cutlery whilst we were treated like animals outside at the tables. What a disgusting way to treat customers with small children. Over £50 spent on food that was not even put on plates like other diners and forced to eat with tiny wooden chip forks! Impossible for 2 year olds! Almost impossible for the meals we had with extra sides of mushy peas and curry sauce. What a dreadful way to treat paying customers. We won’t be returning and will make sure we share our views on local community groups. Plenty of other places to eat fish and chips in the area. We definitely wouldn’t recommend this place. Watery mushy peas, curry sauce that was watered down and runny and fish that was supposed to cod but looked suspiciously like something else. NOT RECOMMENDED!

Came in to ask about allergies for my son and they were quite rude. One rolled their eyes at me and the other was very blunt and defensive, like it was a big inconvenience to them. Very bad customer service skills and not great at all for people looking for alternatives due to allergies/different dietary requirements. They don’t even know their own ingredients!

Rude staff, was shouted at by the women as she got our order wrong and blamed me for the mistake. Totally unacceptable!! Snatched my fish and chips of the table and took them away to replace the correct order that she got wrong! Totally disgusting behaviour! No manners what so ever. Very aggressive women in the glasses who works there. Once they have your money in the till they don't care about customers!

You HAVE to go!!! Had been fancying fish and chips for ages so checked out the 3 Best Rated Website and set off. Found Pelican on foot whilst checking out the (not so impressive) competition and really liked the look (and smell) of the place! Always trust your instincts, I say... The place is so clean and the staff friendly and welcoming. The fish was cooked to order and my haddock was easily the best I've tasted in a very long time; full of flavour, meaty, no bones and the batter was fantastic - crispy, tasty, no grease. I seldom eat any of the batter and I ate the lot! The chips were also cooked to perfection - crisp and fluffy. Celebrated with a nice glass of rose and a lemon meringue for dessert - delicious awesomeness! Cannot recommend highly enough - so don't bother with the others - this HAS to be the best Eastbourne has to offer. I have a feeling we will be making this a regular treat.

Just off seafront, one of the best eateries in this road. Excellent quality and quantity at a fair price. Well recommend.

Son had the fish and chips w plaice and said it was the best fish and chips he'd ever had! I had the grilled cod and it was a yummy option if you don't like/can't eat fried foods.

Really nice fish and chips - we now visit every year when we go to Eastbourne for the tennis. Really recommend if you're in the area!

Incredibly poor customer service and rude staff. Ushering us outside as soon as we placed our order despite there being plenty of space to wait inside and no one else in there. Not child friendly either. Happy to take your money but as soon as payment clears they speak to you like your trash.

We're from Brighton and if there is a better fish and chips anywhere near us, we've never found it.

We enjoyed an excellent fish and chips with curry sauce. A bit cold inside, unnecessarily air condition turned on. Overall, it was an excellent experience! High five to the chef! ✋️

Had a quick bite here after the Magnificent Motors show on the seafront. Great service food came pretty fast. The food was cooked perfectly.

As a disabled customer I was delighted to be able to park right outside. Access is level. Only drawback is no disabled loo. Food was super fresh, hot and easily the best chips I have had for many a long time. Service was very friendly and efficient it quickly filled up with families and still the service was really quick and good. Deserves to do well. Could a disabled loo be considered somewhere?

The cod cost 7.80 and comes without chips. 😜

This wonderful fish and chip restaurant never fails to hit the mark. We eat there frequently, the staff are always happy and attentive. The frying of the fish and chips is always perfect and as an observation the tables and toilets are spotless.

My favourite local chippy.. I have never had a bad meal from here and the staff are always very friendly, I would definitely recommend.

We’ve ordered food in the shop and it’s absolutely disgusting!!! Sales assistant clearly can’t understand English and it messed our order right up!! Chips are undercooked fish tastes like plastic or frozen Iceland special, mushy peas has nothing solid in it, just mushy water! Got not enough mayonnaise and to many pickled onions!! All in for two people for £30 quid an absolute joke!!! Stay away

Fancied fish and chips for the first time in ages. Found this on trip advisor and thought we would give it a try. Excellent service from polite staff, the fish was cooked to order, and my haddock was the best I have tasted in a long while. Plump, full of flavour and no bones or skin. The batter was light and not at all greasy, and the chips crisp and fluffy, all was served piping hot. We will be making this a regular treat.

A little overpriced for what I've got. Tiny fish, from the frying couldn't taste actual fish just oil. Service was fast though, which is good as was very hungry. Waitrose is very friendly.A highlight. Overall good is not a satisfactory though

Place looks nice but they didn’t have a lot of the items on the menu. Service wasn’t great and then we ended up with half our order. Fish overcooked and chips undercooked. Curry sauce very watery.

Decent fish and chips meal, prices a little steep !

Recommended by a local who new the best takeaways in eastbourne ordered a takeaway to eat by the sea front a lot better than the a well named fish shop

Dropped in here to pre-order a large cod, chips and mushy peas. 1 hour later my taxi driver collected my order. As I'm a disabled pensioner he let me stay in the cab rather than my walking to the shop. I ate part of my meal upon getting to my hotel and a late night snack at around 23:15. The fish was superb and the chips and mushy peas were perfect. Great staff, great service and great food. Highly recommended. UPDATE: The world over, a universal constant is a slice of bread and butter. A strange anomaly exists here...as when I ordered 3 slices of bread and butter, I was given 3 half slices? This is the 1st time I've ever experienced this? I've been around the World 3 times and visited 69 countries... and have never known this before? 1* deducted.

Table of seven on September 8th just before afternoon closing. Food was hot and fresh, crispy, not oily fish & chips and service was on par. I would recommend it for a nice sit down meal or take away.

Large cod, chips and mushy peas ..... Quality is good nice crispy batter, but portions are tiny , the large cod isn't large at all , and the few chips I got , although very nice was hardly a portion . The plates are small...

Cod and Haddock batter was soggy, we knew fish wasn’t going to be fresh which is fine. Can tell it’s frozen and defrosted from the texture. Chips are average, needed longer in fryer. Waitress was friendly and smiley though, which saved a 1 star.

Two visits. First very good so we went back another day. Second visit we were given the wrong order. I ordered a cheese burger and got fish and chips. My partner ordered grilled fish and got battered fish. We questioned it but so as not to cause a fuss we accepted it.

Ordered fish and chips, fish very white and flaky with a thin batter and well cooked chips. Freshly prepared and piping hot. Lovely clean interior and attentive staff. Great location easy to find.

Was treated by my grandson at this brilliant FISH 'N' CHIPS restaurant 5 mins walk from the Eastbourne pier. In my 65 years of eating COD N CHIPS i have never UNTIL NOW asked for another small cod having had a very large one. THIS RESTAURANT GETS 5 STARS FOR TASTE SERVICE HYGIENE INCLUDING TOILETS. I hope to return these as and when in EASTBOURNE. ☝️🤲🙏👍👌✌
