some of the best chips in eastbourne, come here every week and it’s always good - if you’re looking for reliable fish and chips this is the place, but it is busy! (for a reason)

Lovely food and the staff are polite and efficient.

Amazing plaice and chips…loved them. Cooked fresh whilst we waited. Scampi offered a good amount and was enjoyed. We will return if we come to Eastbourne again.

Ordered 1 large cod and 1 medium cod and a portion of chips to share, fish was beautiful large white chunks of flat fish and the chips was the best I have had in a long time., crunchy on the outside and fluffy potato inside. I was recommended to Sovereign so on Sunday decided to order a delivery for dinner. The order was for Cod and chips and some extras at a cost of over £30. I have used a number of Eastbourne take a ways but can only say this is the worst I have ever had the misfortune to order.

Had to wait for food because it was cooked fresh and well worth the wait, highly recommended 👌

We had code and chips, it looked like it was fresh but the oil wasn't 🤔 Not crispy very soggy and brown Definitely not going there again

I was surprised to see the last few reviews have not been good, although a few of them were over a year old. We get fish and chips from Sovereign Fish Bar quite often. We usually ring up and order in advance and pick our food up around 20 mins. later. We have never been disappointed with their product and their burgers are good as well. We are having their fish and chips for dinner tonight and I'll bet it will be good!!

We ordered 1 large and 1 medium fish and chips. Both pieces of Fish were very disappointing. The size left a lot to be desired as they were very thin and not nice tasting. I don’t mind paying the £23 if the food was decent, but this wasn’t. One portion of chips was good, one was just like leftover bits.

The chips looked like they had used older potato, flat and dried up. One order was a burger. This was so fatty upon eating it, I had to instantly spit it out. A weekend family treat wasted. It’s not even like fish and chips is a cheap take away. Avoid at all costs and try one of the many other chips shops in the town, none could be as worse as this experience.

Ordered well within opening times. Food never came called and said it will come but never did. No cancellation on just eat.. money taken.. kept my child up for her dinner, looks like we wont be getting it

Was extremely good fish and chips, unfortunately they started doing kebabs and the fish has gone down hill, over cooked and dripping with oil, and the new guy they have for the kebabs needs a good scrubbing down, Bad move opening kebabs, stick to what you're good at 👍

Awful. Burnt saveloy to the point it was crunchy and the meat inside had turned orange( don’t know if that was due to it being over cooked), and chips were average but had a strange aftertaste as if they had been fried in week old oil. From my perspective I was definitely given the previous nights leftovers lol.

Absolutely delightful place to order from very polite quick friendly service food arrives hot always and exceptional affordable rates plenty of choice if they added indian and chinese then they have hit the jackpot and full of taste mark the driver exceptionally pleasant and always serves with a smile

I’ve been going here, now myself for a couple of years, and I’ve always enjoyed the nice tasting food, until I tried the kebab it was very bland. Almost tasteless I ended up throwing most of it in the bin

This is one of the better fish and chip shops around the only thing I would say is that I order 2 large chips which was put in same wrapper but was more like 2 small put together. Not impressed

We are contractors working nearby , just had fish and chips , asked if we could eat in , no problem they said , then brought our tea out on plates ( nice touch ) , both fish and chips were well cooked , great find , highly recommended 😀 👍

Brilliant fish and chips all cooked fresh, batter so light and not greasy ,best in eastbourne.

This was the third time we have used this restaurant. First time was very impressive and assumed this would be our favoured chip shop. Second visit was was poor and tonight's effort was the last straw. We phoned the order through, we were told ten to fifteen minutes. We left straight away. However the food was ready when we got there. But was dry and lukewarm when we got home (5 mins) the cod was dried out and the chips were cold and had stuck stuck to each other. We dread to think what we would have got had we arrived 10 minutes later as advised. These people had better up their game as a cost of living hits peoples pockets because I will not accept a loss of £20 for this poor quality offering.

It took a little while for this fish and chip takeaway to get going and I wrote a bad review last year about their chips. We’ve used them again three times lately and their fish is lovely, with crispy batter and the chips are cooked just right now. Very generous portions too. All cooked to order as well so it’s fresh.

Just moved to area ,have been a bit disappointed with chippys until we found sovereign fish and chips ,they were excellent lovely white chunky cod proper chips ,the batter light and crispy and not greasy ,will definitely make this chippy mt favourite.

Just had two cod and chips takeaway, from this our local. All cooked while we waited. The fish was fine but the chips were awful. They were mostly very small thin slivers of chips that were too hard to eat once cooked. The few larger ones tasted ok. Suggest the fish bar changes their chips supplier. We won’t go again until we have heard from friends and neighbours or on trip adviser that the chips are ok.

Dissapointed you dont automatically get a fork when buying mushy peas. Got to the beach opened up the bag with everything in it except a fork. Maybe i should of asked. On positive point it was all hot

I've been here 3 times over the last two months. The Cod & Chips to take away are really excellent however i've noticed a strange smell from the packaging in the car. I had some today & realised the smell was from the oil the fish & chips are Cooked in which soaks into the paper packaging. Great shame because the fish was perfectly good. Tony.

Paid 30.00 for 3 plaice 2 small chips on arrival very greasy batter not cooked chips very average this is the second time now so no more

Cracking local chip shop. Excellent fish and pies, the chips are hot and fresh too. Gravy or curry sauce are v good. None of that double cooked old chip rubbish either. Always a q! Only wish they did steak n kidney puddings then it would match a proper northern chippy. 👍👍

When I got home missing one portion of chicken goujons which was paid for. Too far away to return. The chips were not nice, Doughy stuck together. Fish was small fish in large batter. I understand this is fairly new management, the previous owners were first class. After two disappointing visits and feeling cheated will take my business elsewhere.

where to start.... after ordering food waited outside as the norm currently... got our food called out, to go in to be told literly after 5 seconds oh no im doing someone elses now by the rude young girl working there, so thought ok fair enough. Finally got food, thought thats strange havnt been asked what i want in my burger i.e. sauce salad etc , so i asked can i have sauce to be told ive done it now so its a bit late. After getting home with the food wish i had extermly wish i didnt after the experience it only gets worse to find after i ordered two chips (1 large 1 norm) that i had two very small portions of chips both cold, also burger was dead and dry as your like. Honestly 5 min drive to go to the chip shop in pevensey will be worth your time then this dive!

Live very close to this chippy, but sadly i dont go there, fish is cut thin, chips are hot but not very tasty. A few times they forgot to cook the scampi i ordered, and the final straw was a still frozen spring roll.

The chips could have done with a couple of minutes more in the fryer and the meal was rather greasy sadly. Nice big piece of cod though. Staff seemed sad.

Went this evening to get fish and chips for the family. Part of my order was for two large portions of chips. When I received my order I naturally went home so we could eat our dinner. To my surprise they had only given me one portion of chips despite the fact that I had ordered and paid for two. I live 20 minutes drive away from the chip shop, and after a long week at work could not be bothered to drive back and complain. I won’t be buying food from here again. One cheated, twice shy!

Encontré esta maravillosa tienda de chips por accidente. Que hallazgo. Excelente elección de hamburguesas de pescado, verduras, platos de papa chaqueta. Buena selección de pedidos secundarios a un precio razonable. Tamaño de la porción bueno, rebozado en pescado ligero y esponjoso.Personal amable, mesas limpias y no pegajosas. Puedes comer o llevar. Buen horario de apertura (cerrado los domingos). Interesante pecera en la pared lateral.

Vine aquí esta noche cuando nos mudamos recientemente a Eastbourne y he estado probando diferentes platos para llevar pescado y papas fritas para tratar de encontrar nuestro favorito. Pedí un bacalao grande, papas fritas grandes y una hamburguesa, esto generalmente es suficiente para alimentar a nuestra familia de tres. El tamaño de las porciones aquí es ridículamente pequeño. El bacalao grande era apenas lo suficientemente grande para uno y las fichas divididas entre dos no iban lo suficientemente lejos. Y terminé con tostadas de frijoles ya que no había suficiente para todos nosotros. Terrible relación calidad-precio, simplemente no te molestes.

He estado usando este chippy durante mucho tiempo ahora con pescado y papas fritas promedio. Recientemente este chippy tiene un nuevo dueño, al principio la comida estaba bien. Ahora, después de varios meses, descubrí que han mejorado su juego y que la comida es de primera clase, masa crujiente y sabrosa en el pescado, muchas papas fritas (no puedo comerlas todas). El precio no es barato pero no demasiado caro. Anoche probé el bacalao y papas fritas para niños OAP a las 4: 50 la porción era suficiente y suficiente para una buena comida. Pedí media porción de champiñones ya que una porción completa es cara y demasiada para mí, me dijeron que solo hacen porciones completas, lo que, en mi opinión, no es un buen servicio, creo que deberían haberme ofrecido la opción de media porción . Aparte de eso, un buen chippy que ahora ofrece servicio de comida para sentarse.

La primera vez que compramos nuestro bacalao y papas fritas desde aquí, aunque hemos estado de vacaciones en Eastbourne durante años. Porciones muy generosas y estaban absolutamente deliciosas. Tampoco eran grasientas, lo que nos complació sin fin. Estaba muy limpio por dentro también. Es una pena que nos vayamos a casa el sábado, pero ya hemos reservado para nuestras vacaciones de verano el próximo agosto, así que cuando sea la "noche de pescado y papas fritas" definitivamente volveremos.

Best chip shop in Eastbourne, have been going here for over 2 years, it has always been good but even better since the new owners took over, also very recently they have a whole new menu, a wide variety of options so if you haven't been for a while, definitely check it out. All the staff are happy, friendly and welcoming, the portion sizes are amazing, the waiting time is very good, packaging is always great, keeps the food together and warm always until I get home, even on the cold windy nights haha. Most importantly the food is delicious, the chips, saveloy, sausages, burgers are the best in Eastbourne by far, taste & portion size. I love jacket potatoes and I am so pleased Sovereign Fish Bar are now doing them, the potato is huge, the inside and skin is baked perfectly and the toppings are a great portion also, you can get beans, chicken, coleslaw, Mayo, cheese and more options. They come with a lovely salad aswell, lovely presentation and so green and fresh The fish & chicken wings are also my favourite, largest haddock in Eastbourne and I have tried a lot of chip shops haha. The Desserts are amazing too, cheese cake & chocolate fudge cake I love. Highly Recommend

the family and I have been loyal customers for many years however there has been a distinct change in quality dry tough batter on very thin fish, chips tasted like they were reheated and when we tried to put the chips on a plate the paper was stuck to them. Such a shame but since the change and the last visit I will not be going back! Initially the previous owners insisted that the new owners had spent time with them so as not to change the quality over time this seems to have been forgotten. Anyway sick of wasting money on substandard food picking the paper from my chips. May I suggest that the new owners don’t waste their time sending me the generic reply that they issue to a few low reviews but simply to get back to the quality that we expect...I for one will not be returning.

Nos mudamos a Eastbourne desde 'el Norte' hace varios meses, habiendo tenido varias tiendas / restaurantes de pescado y papas fritas muy cerca. Estábamos ansiosos por no encontrar nada tan bueno cerca de nuestro nuevo hogar, ¡pero lo hemos hecho! Este lugar ofrece un excelente servicio, comida recién preparada a un precio razonable. Hemos estado encantados con todo lo que hemos comprado aquí y estamos encantados de que esté en nuestra puerta. Duda si encontrarías algo mejor.

Nosotros también hemos estado yendo aquí por años! Al comienzo de la nueva adquisición, no había cambiado, pero en los últimos meses había caído en picado. El pescado está goteando en aceite hasta el punto en que ha goteado por todo mi piso. Las papas fritas parecen no ser papas frescas y, tal vez, congeladas de un paquete / recalentadas, aunque se cocinan, no es lo mismo. Es una pena. Realmente espero que los propietarios escuchen estas reseñas, ya que pueden ver que las colas se acortan. No volveremos por un tiempo ahora. ?

Mi familia y yo usamos esta tienda de pescado y papas fritas durante muchos años, pero lamentablemente fue adquirida y la calidad ya no existe. A pesar de visitar varias veces para darles la oportunidad de que las porciones sean más pequeñas, la comida gotea grasa hasta el punto en que gotea del papel al automóvil y las papas se recalientan o se cocinan en exceso. Nunca volveremos a utilizar este lugar.

Esta tienda de papas fritas siempre ha sido una de las favoritas de la familia debido a que viven tan cerca y brindan un pescado y papas increíbles, sin embargo, ya que se ha tomado, es completamente diferente, las papas y papas están siempre cubiertas de grasa, siempre se cocinan y se dejan. Para enfriarse y luego volver a cocinarse, casi saben a plástico. Disappointing fish. Cod thin and not chunky possibly had been frozen. Chips reasonable but not very hot. Fish from previous owners of this chip shop provided better quality of fish and it was not as greasy. A great shame.

Hemos estado obteniendo nuestro pescado y patatas fritas aquí durante años. Simplemente no es lo mismo ya que fue asumido. El pescado es bueno, pero el batido siempre está corriendo en grasa. La última vez fue tan malo que goteó a través del papel en el piso de mi cocina. Las fichas tampoco son geniales. Tuvimos algunos verdes y muchos de los que solo puedo suponer son pequeños trozos del fondo de la freidora. No sé si es la calidad de las papas o el aceite, pero simplemente no son lo mismo. Le hemos dado una oportunidad al nuevo propietario, y él tenía grandes zapatos para llenar, pero están fallando.
