Churchill's Fish & Chips Langney in Eastbourne

We ordered chips from here yesterday. We ordered 3 large as well as all our other bits. Large usually comes in a large box, only to find we had two small boxes, and one large box. The large box was only half filled with chips and the other side sat a fish cake. We paid £26 for this. The chips were warm and soggy, and had to be microwaved, and were collected so should have been hot. Not happy at all!!! Totally mugged off. Ordered a few times before and they were lovely and filled up in a large box. Couldn't be bothered to take them back as kids were hungry.

Worst portion of chips I’ve ever purchased, selling a large chips for nearly £5 in a small box that were cold and hard, like they were leftover from lunchtime. Won’t be returning again!!!

I had a lovely experience here today, stuff are friendly, food was cooked to perfection, waited about 10 mins for the fish but it was all cooked fresh! Restaurant was neat and tidy

We had a sausage in batter. The meat inside was white no taste and the batter was barely there. Chips weren't up to much .waste of money. Why use boxes for chips. Makes it so expensive. Not for me.

Paying a whole pound for a pickled egg is downright absurd when you think about it. It’s an egg—boiled, plopped into vinegar, and left to soak until it’s sour enough to pucker your lips—hardly a luxury item. You’re not buying truffle oil or hand-crafted artisanal cheese; you’re shelling out a quid for something that’s been bobbing in a jar behind the counter since who-knows-when. It’s the kind of snack you eat on a dare, not one that should dent your wallet. Somewhere along the way, the humble pickled egg got delusions of grandeur—and our pockets are paying the price.

There was a very rude woman who tried to serve me and started criticizing my accent and it made me feel worthless, the chef was great because then he came out and took my order instead so overall this place is very bad and deserves a change of staff because they're very rude towards customers and they don't have a will to be working and to be respectful towards customers.. I would also like to add that they are racist because they started talking about foreign people taking over this country and they don't like it in front of me. Disgusting behavior this..

The best fish and chips in Eastbourne ! It’s just a shame it’s so expensive . But when you get a good quality meal the cost can be overlooked .

We thought we'd try Churchills, Langney. Ordered online to collect, which worked ok. Small cod, medium haddock and classic cheeseburger with large chips just shy of £30. It was ready on time. The fish was nicely cooked with crispy batter. My wife enjoyed her burger. That's the end of the good news!! The 'large' chips wasn't, for the price, and was more akin to 'scraps' than 'proper' chips. We thought the portions were small and not really good value for money, averaging about £10 a plate.

I placed my order (through Just Eat) to include x1 can of Coke. The Coke was not delivered (and on the receipt attached to the bag, was unhighlighted whereas the delivered items were). I contacted Churchills immediately and was told that, due to placing the order via Just Eat, I was not entitled to any form or refund or goodwill gesture. I told the staff member that this was completely unsatisfactory and that as I had paid for an item, I expected either a refund or it to be delivered. The staff member kept telling me to contact Just Eat, seemingly making out that it was the delivery drivers fault for not delivering the correct items? Further to this, my order included both a large and regular chips, both of which were the same size? Would not recommend and will not be going to Churchills again sadly.

Normally the best fish and chips,but what happened yesterday.Batter on fish really dark and greasy and chips had a funny pattern over them and were chewy,left all chips.Not nice at all.

Value for money - Monday deals are great

Been here several times now and the food has always been very good, however on the last recent occasion the fish wasn't freshly cooked and a large cod was very small and chips were only luke warm, they must have new staff or a new chef? Very disappointed especially as they charge a lot of money now, I did complain but only received £7 refund as they said I should have told them before I started eating it!! What a cheek!! Won't be going back!

For what I got this was quite expensive 4 chicken strips, small chips, coke £10. Chips looked like they had had freezer burn. Couldn't eat. Chicken was ok-ish. Service was very friendly however!

recently ordered chips from your establishment, and I must say it was the worst I have ever had. The chips looked soggy and unappetizing. When I asked about them, I was told they had just been cooked, but given their texture and appearance, this was hard to believe. Additionally, I paid £11 for my meal, and it was served within a minute. This raises concerns about whether it was freshly cooked or simply reheated. For the price I paid, I expected much better quality. Treat your customer how treat yourself

Food arrived cold via just eat , again!! Gave a chance in ordering again ,Asked for ketchup but not received too. Do not recommend at all for delivery

This lovely chip shop was great only 2nd time visiting it's 17 miles from home but great lovely staff good food and very cost effective in this time of everyone being poor keep your friendly staff going makes a big impact xx

Spotted this Fish and Chip restaurant and takeaway when using the bakery and Home Bargains nearby and really quite liked the centre and was determined to return for a chippy tea. Can't understand the negative reviews, very clean, really friendly service from Angela and so nice to have a plated meal brought to you, with a decent mug of tea. Tried Fish Roulette Goujons, Large Haddock, Mushy Peas, Curry Sauce and a Peters Minced Beef and Onion Pie, all piping hot, really excellent chips and all the fish was delicious and I'm sure it must have been fresh as it had a lovely texture and flavour. Curry sauce was a winner as was the mushy peas, not the cheapest chippy tea at just over £36 but great value for what we enjoyed. We shall return for sure

Fish and chips cooked in old oil really upset my tummy awful still the next day its upset and its all I had yesterday

Very disappointed with this order. Medium fish was 70% batter and the oil needs changing. I ordered chicken with free chips and received no chips. We had to reheat it as it was barely warm.

Fish burnt on the outside and not cooked on the inside. The fish meat felt slimy. Dirty oil. Leaving a brown oil on plate. Everything tastes of the oil and nothing else. Couldn’t eat it and I’m sure it’s going to make me feel nauseous later. Will never come back.

The place is clean and well kept. The chips are absolutely amazing! Great service and a nice atmosphere, will definitely be going back!

I broke 2 personal records today at Churchill's. I paid the most I have ever paid for a portion of chips, a staggering £4.50. And I was given the worst portion of chips I have ever had. I am not sure how long ago they had been cooked, but it definitely wasn't today.

I am visiting my brother in Eastbourne from Leicester and was exhausted after the drive (those lovely M25/A3 roadworks!) and decided to get a fish and chips dinner delivered. Wow! I can honestly say this was amongst the best cod, haddock chips and curry sauce I have ever had. I feel like sending someone from my local chippy to find out how to do this properly.

Quite possibly the worst chips I've ever eaten in my life. I really don't often review or complain but these were so bad I had to. Chewy and greasy. Disgusting.

Wow, blown away by this experience of ordering Fish and Chips. So easy to order, wonderful choice and able to follow the delivery route. The food was delivered piping hot and absolutely delicious. Gluten free option was truly scrumptious, I never thought I would enjoy Fish and Chips again after being diagnosed. Thank you so much Churchills. Absolutely magnificent service.

Really nice but very expensive!

I am not sure what has happened to Churchill's it used to be my favourite fish and chip shop,the fish was always of good quality but never again. I received a piece of slimy fish of a very small proportion which was supposed to be haddock. I have never seen haddock like that. There was very few chips. I note that the boxes you now receive your food in have also shrunk. A real shame I will be going elsewhere in future. This place will not last if they do not listen to customers and up their game.

Food was ok but curry sauce missing, tried to call the restaurant but no option to get through to anyone. Didn’t want the curry sauce refunded, we just wanted the curry sauce!

the fish was dry batter sogy chips were liked warmed in a micro wave 100,% not what we have from you normally chips are crispy and hot batter on the fish crispy crunchy very surprized we have never had this before Chris

the estimated time kept slipping back, and we didn't actually receive the food for over 1 hour. When we DID receive the food the chips contained what appears to be GRAVEL! SMALL STONES!

Food was amazing but Angela seriously needs another job …. So rude was told to sit outside and when came in Becuz it was hot she looked at me and looked around , as ifI wasn’t supposed to come in, then gave me 3 different peoples food in one bag , I asked for another bag beucse we where not together and apparently I should have said that , I didn’t kno I was supposed to tell the fish and chip shop where I was going my first time and here and was truley disappointed by the disrespectful attitude .

We've never had a bad chippie tea from Churchills but tonight it was awful! Food was cold,it looked like it was left over from lunchtime!! A midweek treat turned out to be awful & we'll think again whether or not to order from Churchills again!

Food arrived cold so couldn’t eat it. As prices are so expensive these days and ordering a take away is a treat, I won’t be ordering from JustEat or Churchills again. It’s such a shame.

So good! Finally a place that does proper chips! The fish was huge and the squid was great quality and not just frozen rings. Highly recommended.

Delivery time kept changing & food was cold. Delivery driver picked up an order from another restaurant on way to me & had to wait for that to be dished up resulting in my order being late & cold

Food was great as always, but driver went from restaurant to the crumbles area before delivery meaning food could have been warmer.

Had a so called large cod and chips the cod was waiver thin and just made up with loads of battery,the toilet was in a unclean state will not go again would not recommend

It felt like my food had been sitting around, fish was grease and chip's were scrappy, in the past they have been very good

Unfortunately our order is missing items, the large chips seem to be a regular and no salt or vinegar has been added to our meal. Disappointing considering how expensive the food is here.

OK hade better fish and chips

Mushy peas were missing off the order. Can even see on the order slip that everything else was ticked except for the mushy peas so should have been obvious they weren't added

Disgusting service tonight we ordered on line collection was 6.25 arrived at .6.28 got totally ignored I stood there I could see my fish in drainer finally got served 6.45 staff ignored other customers as well a young man walked in way after me and Linda served him straight away fell over herself to serve him eventually when we got home fish was cold chips only Luke warm I will never use this company again or recommend them if I could have give 0 stars I would

An hour and a half for delivery seriously to anyone else ordering on a Friday afternoon or weekend be prepared to wait a long time it may of been busy but I ordered well in advance and it wasn’t a big order either.

I ordered the food over 1 hour before it was delivered. The courier was very apologetic as he said food was ready but he was kept waiting for it. It arrived cold and had to be warned in the microwave. Very disappointing would not recommend.

Burnt bacon in the average burger, soggy pie & chips and very small scampi, tiny bit of Halloumi in the burger and expensive. CERTAINLY BETTER CHIP SHOPS in EASTBOURNE. You send an standard reply, which is posted on any complaint, but we are spending good money with you. You customer service is just as bad as your food

I won't be ordering late than I usually do again. The fish seemed as though it had been re cooked, and was stuck to the bottom of the box and the chips were not as nice as usual. Disappointing this time. Like maybe they didn't care

Not sure when the last reviewer visited, but I’ve been here numerous times and have never seen any of the tables with any dirty plates or un-wiped. The staff are always polite and quick to clear the tables, even when some customers treat them like dirt. We usually have small cod and chips which is a huge portion! The batter is just right and has nice flakes of cod.

I really want to give 5 stars as the food was excellent quality but I ordered pie and chips and they forgot to send the chips! Left hungry.

We had cod and chips and mushy peas. The chips were stale and the fish had so much batter that there was hardly any fish inside. It cost a lot of money and was not value for money at all. The priority seemed to be take aways for just east deliveries which sat on the counter for ages before getting picked up. There was hardly any staff and the tables had a backlog of dirty dishes on them. This was rated as a top fish and chip restaurant not long ago but unless they get more staff their repution is going downhill big time. I will never be back in again it was that bad.

I thought this was an award-winning place. I must have ordered from the wrong one as the chips were soggy, the curry sauce bland, and the battered sausage had the thinnest batter I have ever seen. I had an oily taste in my mouth for several hours afterwards. The only nice part was the burger. Well, I have tried it once and never again!

For a takeaway given in the first ten if that is rated high god knows what the rest of the takeaway are like I had a medium cod and chips the fish was about 8 inches long correction that was the batter inside was a sliver of cod the chips were greasy I paid £11 for this I would dissatisfied if I had paid £5

The large fish you get here is the same as small in other places. Nothing special

Only went there because of ratings I found it very poor my medium cod was so thin hardly any fish but plenty of batter the chips were of poor quality not worth the £11even at £5 I would it a low rating

I do a review every time but not sure I can add anything. Always hot, freshly cooked, on time. Give it a try you won’t be disappointed

Again food was delivered not in the bag that is supposed to keep the food hot and box with food in was open

We love eating here, fresh food and good quality. Portion sizes are decent too.

Food was not hot enough, possibly due to not being put in heat retaining bag and carried in just paper carrier bag

Food was Stone cold when it arrived, wrong source in the box from what I ordered, very poor quality today
