Calamar Fish Bar in Eastbourne

We have been having fish and chips from here for several years and the fish has been excellent. Always freshly cooked. A short wait but well worth it. On the latest visit I was surprised that the shop was empty and that my order of two large cod was already cooked and being kept warm and I was out in under a minute. The fish was not good and the batter on one fish very old and cold. The people working in the shop seemed new to me. If it has been sold then the quality has sadly gone down and we will not use again.

Food is pretty decent to be fair, only thing being sometimes the chips are reheated and can be mega chewy. But the food overall is very nice and good value for food!

Ordered at 5 30 rang at 6.30 as I was told 45mins,when I queried it the young girl on the other end told me to come and get my own f.....g order.just unexeptable, rand again at 645 and they had lost the order,how this man has a business I don't know. Rang again at 7,and was told they had left ,asked for a reduction,didn't get one.they turned up at 7 15,and were not worth eating. Never again.

Ordered at 5.30pm and was told 45 mins. An hour later the delivery driver rang to say he couldn't find us. I told him our address and postcode and waited. 25 minutes later he called again, still can't find us, so my partners wanders up the road to see if he can locate him. Turns out he's in the wrong street, so I tell him the address again and seems to be insinuating that I don't know where I live. Now nearly an hour and a half after ordering he arrives with stone cold food. He showed us the delivery note which seemed perfectly clear to us but he seemed pretty apathetic about it, so we sent him away with the cold food. I rang the restaurant and they agreed to resend the order. Food finally arrived at 8pm with a verbal apology, and to be fair it was nice, though we weren't very hungry by this point. A two and half hour wait for dinner when we are literally 6 streets away is not an experience I want to repeat. Won't be ordering from here again.

This is a regular place I go. I have to agree the fish & chips are good but I wish they would let the fish sit for a while to drain, as when I get home the oil has made the batter a mess.

They advertise Apple Pay yet when you come and pay you are redirected to a cash point. If you advertise it, uses it! Food and service Is good, but not consistent.

Visited on Wednesday , 19th February around 8pm , for take away fish , roe and chips , had ordered by telephone 15 minutes earlier. On arrival greeted by a very pleasant young lady and my order was ready , excellent and friendly service. The food was delicious , perfectly cooked and very tasty plus the fact that the portions were very generous. Would definitely recommend Calamar and will use again.

We regularly get our fish and chips from here. It’s always freshly cooked and their portions are a good size compared to some other local shops. They always taste good and we are always happy with our food.

Was recommended as I was this end of town so gave it a go. The only good thing I can recommend are the chips! Battered sausage - must have been out all day Scampi - over fried balls of something?? Cod was ok.. the Huss had a wiff of ammonia about it. Biggest joke was the curry sauce.. must go on record as the smallest, tightest portion I've ever been served! Maybe I'll stick to my usual

So every time I’ve been here I have to say I’ve been impressed. It’s immaculately clean, the food is usually cooked to order and nice and hot when you get it. The guys who work there are always cheerful and the prices are very reasonable. What more is there to say?

Very yummy fish and chips. Brilliant service.. Very friendly staff. Good value for money. Had haddock, plaice and cod. Good variety of different things to order. Mostly cooked fresh to order - and worth the wait. Can also sit in the restaurant and eat in.

Acabo de estar en la barra de pescado de calamar parece que ya no cuidan a los clientes habituales la última vez que fuimos recobramos las patatas fritas, esta vez obtuvimos pescado cocido doble, era marrón y seco, tippical de cocinar más de una vez las patatas se recalentaron probablemente más de una vez lo siento calamares que acaba de perder un cliente que no volveremos es penique pellizcar la pena perder su alguna vez buena reputación

the fish and chips are really good the large cod is well worth the money the staff are very hhelpful there is a great team working there i go there once a week

Bem localizado, com vista privilegiada, especialmente no por do sol, esse bar ainda oferece serviço de praia ( mas cuidado com os clandestinos ). O atendimento e as porções são típicos de quiosque. Mas a cerveja é servida " trincando ".

I've been to this shop a few times I find the men very rude .have to wait quite a long time. Never seem friendly. Chips aren't very nice stopped coming here but cause close by came again and still the same .

The food is cooked to order, is tasty, fresh and they serve large portions. Polite service. Never disappointed.

Visité Calamar un lunes almuerzo con un amigo. Estoy en una silla de ruedas y inmediatamente fue atendido por un miembro del personal. Elegí el abadejo y patatas fritas y sólo esperamos un tiempo muy corto antes de nuestra comida llegó. Bien presentada en el plato y el pescado era precioso. Las patatas fritas eran crujientes por fuera y suaves por dentro. Al salir me ayudaron una vez más. El comedor estaba muy limpio y se lo recomendaría a todos, para aquellos que comer en el restaurante o para llevar.

We use this take away almost every week. ( You can eat in the restaurant section ) Have been using it since it opened a number of years ago and the quality and service has been and is always 1st. class.

First time of visiting yesterday, but not the last. This chippy is recommended, everything is cooked for you as you wait, the portions are a very good size. Their prices are very competitive.

This is our local chippy, portions are large, so we have a large cod and chips between the two of us. Great chips, never soggy! Fish is always fresh and taste traditional batter, none of these fancy low calorie batters!

This fish shop is highly recommended everything is cooked fresh for you and the portions are a very good size, one tip if you order two meals only order one large portion of chips as they are a good size, you won't be disappointed with your meal

We only use the Calamar Fish Bar for our Fish & Chips. They are all friendly and helpful and always meet us with a big smile. They cook the fish to order so you know it's fresh and the chips are not greasy and generous portions. We also have had pies and saveloys from there. You can eat in although we always take away. We are lucky it's our local.

The Calamar is one of the best fish & chip shop / restaurants in the Eastbourne area.You may have take away or eat in the restaurant.

We ordered Cod and Chips for the family over the phone this saturday evening and collected it in ten min.Service was spot on, kind and professional, fish and chips was fresh, tasty and not greasy at all.Well impresed as it was the first time we used them, will defenatly come back again.Would recommend them.

Have been using this restaurant/takeaway for two years now and have to say they are one of the best in town. Food mostly cooked to order throughout the week (unless on busy nights e.g. Fri/Sat) and of excellent quality. Staff really friendly and prices reasonable. I know other customes have stated to me when waiting for my order that they have traveled from further afield to eat from here rather than stay local to their own town. What better recommadation can you have than that!!

This Chippy has got it right. The batter is perfect, covers the fish, crispy, and does not leave sticky batter residue on the fish. Unlike some Fish & Chip shops. The staff are friendly.They also give a ´home delivery service´ with orders over 12 pounds. The only downer for me is - I wish they would do a smaller portion of chips suitable for a child or adult with small appetite.
