Carter's Family Fish & Chips in Eastbourne

Popped in here whilst working late - I don't normally do fried food as it tends to be greasy AF and generally rancid. Tonight I had an inexplicable longing for chips and curry sauce, and ended up chucking in a spring roll for good measure. I don't know how they make chips that weren't remotely greasy, but they have nailed it! Really, really nice! Slightly pricier than some (but only slightly) but so, so much better. I will be back next time my chip itch needs scratching!

Portion of chips unusually small for £2.50. Asked for salt and vinegar 😋. Got to my point of eating them. And no salt,no vinegar. And the quality was very disappointing. I have had food before. No problem. But this time sorry guy's. So disappointing 😞. Didn't enjoy them at all. Was poor chips.

Visited this fish and chip shop to grab a quick tea, and have never seen such a small portion for my money, I’ve had fish and chips from all over the country and this was the smallest portion of chips I have ever been given and for £2.20, won’t be visiting again

We were walking the dogs and didn't fancy cooking so popped into this fish and chip restaurant. Owners were very friendly, food was amazing, I'm not a big fan of fish and chips but wow it was lovely. My daughter really enjoyed her chicken and mushroom pie and chips too. Imo the price was amazing too! Colour me impressed.

I don't usually give reviews but this place is the Best fish and chip shop in town everything is super tasty and fresh, friendly staff. It's like the chip shops I remember when I was young. Fresh food and friendly staff. Where most places now have rude / miserable staff, that serve you shoe leather and polystyrene lol. Try this place you will never need to go anywhere els 😉

Carter’s fish bar Eastbourne, I stumbled Upon this fish and chip shop in Eastbourne out of Curiosity and found there establishment very friendly and clean great service magnificent fish and chips highly recommend it to anybody visiting Eastbourne.

I always use Carters Fish and Chips when I am in Eastbourne, which is quite often as I have a boat in Sovereign Harbour. It is a family run restaurant and they are always very friendly and helpful. The prices are very reasonable too. If you dont want to wait, phone ahead, because everything is freshly cooked.

If you are looking for best takeaway in Pevensey Bay area. You will do far better and drive the short distance to Carter's and avoid the terrible servings you will receive from "Roses" in the Bay. Carter's have always supplied a superb meal, fully edible !!

Great social distancing measures, I really love the Homemade fish cake , Haddock is very tasty ,I have also tried the pies , all of these go well with their lovely chips. Plenty of parking space in front of chippy.

Just had 2 small cod and chips. We thought they were excellent. Portion size was good for us. Very tasty and cooked to order. They are doing really well in their anti Covid practices as well. Well done.

Really disappointed with the fish and chips. Found the chips hard and the portions small. If you want a brilliant chippy I guarantee you won’t be disappointed with Bamboo Garden. They blow this chippy out the water with excellent food, good size portions and so friendly 👍👍👍

New to the area and fond of quality fish and chips, so gave this place a try. Wonderful polite service, ordered two large cod and chips and curry sauce. Absolutely delicious. We will be returning soon!

We have been using Carter's for a long time now this is a lovley faimly run business buy husband and wife everything is freshly cooked wilst you wait the fish and chips are beautifully cooked with hardly very little oils so not greezey like meny we know that also do meny other choices and some of their food is actually made on site making it extremely fresh I have honestly never found a better fish and chips shop for meny a miles the best in east Sussex most definitely are number one favourite we definitely wouldn't go eny were else that are so very popular to and honest for example pay for a bag to take your fish and chips away in or please bring your own I was told a while back now so I take my own bag be patient wene very busy as everything is cooked freshly wilst you wait believe me well worth the wait wene busy as you cant get eny better definitely loads of parking outside that are located in Winston crescent in eastbourne east Sussex there is a co op just over the car park there a mens hair dressers a ladeys buity shop next door and the car shop just over the road and a small cafe on the corner I would most definitely recommend it to everyone a fab fish and chips shop with politeness and a very friendly atmosphere thank you carters faimy magnificent

I’ve been coming here irregularly for a long time. Always friendly, very clean. Chips are a funny thing they are potato so they do taste different sometimes but fish it great. I would recommend, easy parking and fair price.

La tienda parecía limpia y el chico mayor que servía en el mostrador era amigable, pero las papas que sirvió fueron posiblemente las peores que he probado en mi vida. Eran pequeños, secos y de sabor muy terroso. Compré 3 porciones: una para mí, una para mi esposa y otra para mi hija. Solo podía comer un puñado pequeño antes de reconocer a los demás que no podía terminar el resto. Mi esposa y mi hija se sintieron aliviadas de tirar las suyas también. Hay muchas tiendas de pescado y papas fritas en Eastbourne, y esta tiene que ser la peor.

I wasn't that impressed with the food from this family run Fish And Chips shop as I had ordered sausage n chips but my chips were not cooked from scratch as Im sure that they had been sitting in the oil for a while but the sausage was lovely, but at the end of the day there are a lot better Fish N Chip shop's around Eastbourne.

Having recently moved into the area, I was looking for a good fish and chip shop that is local. Carter’s is within easy walking distance and the food and service is great. Nicely cooked chips and very tasty fish in good sized portions. The portions are so good that a large fish and chips comfortably feeds two people. Very highly recommended.

Best curry sauce in town if you like it spicy. A good amount of it too.

I was on the verge of a hypo so had to use the restaurant. One bag of regular chips. Waited forever to get them, by then I was salivating at the thought of them; kept myself occupied by looking at the various adverts for a villa to rent in Florida either the owners or a friend of his. Chips arrived, looked very acceptable except the first bite told me they weren't cooked, second chip , third chip all uncooked. Therefore, nearly £2 for a bag of raw potatoes that went straight in the bin. If they can't cook chips properly then I wouldn't take the risk with anything more adventurous like sausages etc.

Oil is test bitter on fish and on chips.

We normally have fish & chips delivered from another shop called Qualisea, but one time the delay was over two hours, so we decided to go to Carters, as it was only a couple of minutes away. Since then, we haven't been back to Qualisea, I think that says it all! Excellent batter on the fish and very reasonable prices. The chips at Qualisea just have the edge, but there is not much in it.

Entré porque no pudimos decidir qué cenar. Qué gran decisión. Las mejores patatas fritas que he probado y coronadas con una increíble salsa de curry. Las salchichas son mejores sin rebozar. Me informaron que mi media naranja también es excelente. No como pescado, así que no puedo confirmarlo.Ahora hemos estado varias veces, así que debe ser bueno.

Como estaba en Eastbourne por el día, decidí que tendría pescado y patatas fritas para el almuerzo. Le pregunté a los adorables hombres de trabajo amigables que sucedieron que estaban trabajando junto a esta tienda de chips. Dijeron que no habían estado en, pero habían oído que la comida era buena. Así que fui en bacalao ordenado y patatas fritas que eran muy caros y muy decepcionante ya que las patatas fritas sabía horrible y el pescado estaba nadando en aceite y la pasta estaba muy pasada, así que puse en la papelera y bajó mc'ds.

Well I have become a but of a sceptic when someone says to me "Try these chips, they are amazing". In this case they were exactly as I was informed. Great crisp chips, with a fluffy inside, and some of the tastiest curry sauce I have ever enjoyed. Having travelled 70 miles from my home to visit my fiancee, it was a pleasant surprise to have my taste buds exercised in such a manner. Looking forward to my next exercise session.

Always search out the best fish and chips and Carters were truly excellent, we really enjoyed them even though we ate them is a dingy car park. Great fish and the chips were just great.

Best curry sauce in East Sussex.

I have never had chips this bad in my life before.The shop seemed very clean from the part I was standing in. An older man took my order, he wasn't overly friendly & I was left to wait along with another man who had put an order in before me.There are three sizes of chips, I had the regular, which is the smallest sold here & it was priced at £1.50.It took a long time to get my chips which I found surprising as usually just a portion of chips is done immediately but it seemed everything, including chips was being cooked to order.There was salt, vinegar and brown looked pepper to put on your order.The chips were crisp but there was a bitter taste to them. I wondered at first if it was the vinegar but I don't think it was as it was all the way through them. My husband tried one and said he thought the oil was well past the date it should have been changed. Whatever it was, these were the most disgusting chips I've ever eaten & I will never go here again.When I got home I put them out for the seagulls & even they weren't keen to eat them, it was a long time before they all went!

You get a warm welcome here but despite only two people in front of me it did take about ten minutes to get my cod and chips. I wasn't particularly keen on the batter and the fish was a bit bland, however the chips were very nice.

The food here is always freshly cooked, served with a smile and is great value. We have swapped the chip shop we have been going to for years to Carter's x

The male server Not the owner) needs to concentrate more on the customers he is serving rather than talking over them For goodness sake good manners cost nothing . And if some dipstick/ so called idiont troll decides to ridicule these comments I suggest they take the longest hike they can get lost in the forest and do not come back

Visited Carters today after a trip to the cinema! great fish and the batter was perfect. Best f&c I've had for a while! Great service and although on the other end of town I will definitely make the trip again.

I'm very fussy about my fish n' chips. When I lived in London, I would only ever go to one of 2 great fish & chips shops: the Sea Shell and Toff's. This is better than either of them!!! This is my local fish & chips and I go there regularly. The owners are ultra friendly and helpful. It is always a joy to visit there! The batter on the fish is freshly made by the owner & is of high quality. I like the chips too, they are crunchy & thick. Everything is cooked to order so that it has not been sitting out for hours on end. Highly recommended!!

We found Carters on here after the shop in town we were going to no longer exists. Being visitors to Eastbourne we purely went off reviews. We had chips, battered sausage and rolls (or baps as they seem to be called here) Hubby wasn't a fan of the chips but I enjoyed them and the sausage was lovely although couldn't eat it all as the portions are very good! Freshly cooked, service with a smile, good prices and great portion sizes. Would come here again if back down this way.

This isn't our nearest fish & chip but it is by far the best and beats all others hands down. The food is freshly prepared with a good mix on the menu and plenty to choose from. My favourite though has to be the chips...good sized chips that are cooked to perfection in front of you and well worth the wait for when you get home and open them up...yummy!

This is clearly a family run fish and chip shop! The husband and wife running it could not have been more helpful when asked questions about the local area. This just adds to the excellent service you get at this chip shop. So....the....food!! Fresh produce and well cooked, no soggy chips here! I had cod which was delicious and really crispy and my husband had the HOMEMADE burger (not many chippies do homemade burgers) which he loved. The kids enjoyed their HOMEMADE fish cakes and we will happily return to this shop every time we holiday in eastbourne! Thank you Carter's

Totally love the food at Carters fish and chip shop. The best in town by far at a reasonable price too. The owners are friendly, the shop is always very clean and The burgers are just yum!

One of the few takeaways where you can park outside to collect your order and it's pretty easy to find. You can phone ahead and pre-order and pick up your hot food!Always very friendly, nothing is too much bother! There is a very small seated area where you can eat, but these chips are worthy of a beach or park picnic!The food is great chipshop food, really well cooked! Homemade fishcakes are apparently to die for - they look lovely, but there's enough variety for even picky vegetarians to be happy! The portions are good, feeding a family won't cost you a week's wages, either.

Fish & chips cooked to order Friendly staff and yummy homemade fish cakes and burgers, well worth a visit.Bought ours and a 2 minute drive away is the seafront so sat on beach to eat.

Carters fish and chip shop cook the most delicious Fish & Chips in Eastbourne. We contacted them to see if they could provide meals for a Group Fish & chip supper we were organising. They were very helpful and our big order was no problem for them, the food was all ready when we arranged collection, pipping hot and delicious! The portions were very generous and all our guests commented on how lovely they tasted.
