Visited after a walk along the coast. Great location. We ordered a selection of hot drinks and cakes but there was quite a wait - even when it didn’t seem to be too busy. Toilets are not the nicest. We have visited here previously and the children have enjoyed the games/jigsaws on offer, however this year we did not come across these - if they’ve gone - please get some more!

Food was okay - burger and fries. The problem was the price of the drinks. 1 pint of IPA, 1 pint of lager shandy (half of which was lemonade of course) came to over £12.

Needed somewhere for an overnight stay for a business trip and found this place. I haven't used a youth hostel for many years and wow how they've changed, arrived in the dark in the wind and rain but yesterday morning in the daylight.!!!!!!!! What a view. Great location, food, drink, room etc. but the staff are the real asset here but particularly the girl doing the check as she's exactly the sort of person you need after a long day really friendly, bubbly and polite. Will definitely be back.

Well, a little unfair to rate this place as a restaurant (3/5) but as a place to visit...regularly...has to be 5/5. You don't go here for the best 'foodie' experience, although sizeable portions - it's no Stein/Ainsworth establishment - its a Youth Hostel for goodness sake. But for somewhere to chill (or warm up) and observe the passing clientele, it's perfect. Plenty of 'alternative' characters travelling through against the wonderful Atlantic Backdrop. Like any hospitality business in the coastal regions of Cornwall The Trey Bay Hostel will always struggle finding and retaining regular staff - I have to say that we have never had any issues with the staff - on occasions they are really welcoming and helpful - so a few of the reviews here are being a little unthoughtful. If it's a certain level of service you are after then visit the restaurants mentioned above. We have dined at both but will remain coming here regularly - OK, if it's suddenly closed for an impromptu 'staff meeting' so what, we'll come back next time. Oh and in the summer time, when the sun is shining and the music playing the outside space has just the best vibe. Well done the Tray Bay!

Although in a beautiful location, the food and drinks (warm beer ! ) are pretty average to poor for the price Be prepared for a long wait at peak times 1- 1.5 hrs ! The Pizza Offering at the same location is not much better tbh. Pizza cooked in diy ovens and tastes the same. Take some cold takeaway drinks to this location and enjoy the sunset.

Can’t really comment on taste of food as, although it looked delicious, didn’t actually receive my food. We ordered food - a pasty and loaded chips- and waited, and waited. A family on another table told us there was an hour wait for food but as we were only having a snack and not a meal, thought we would be okay. It was also quite quiet as after lunch rush. After an hour we still hadn’t received food. Given there were a few other tables with hungry looking people, partner decided to ask when food was coming. At least another 20 mins. It was now drizzling, and the fact it was nearly teatime, we decided to cancel our order. I recognise that most places are experiencing problems with staff shortages but this place appeared to be well-staffed with people just standing around. The kitchen clearly needs to improve its efficiency as despite the delicious looking food, we won’t be going back!

We booked 4 nights in one of the Glamping Tents which are situated on the grounds of the youth hostel. The tents while a little basic are perfectly functional, we could have done with a little bit of storage and maybe a table inside, just in case it’s wet outside, although you do have the the use of the hostel to prepare and eat your own food, dry wet clothes, buy food to eat in the dining area. The self catering kitchen is brilliant and never felt crowded. The bar area was a really fun place to congregate and meet fellow travelers. The lifeguarded beach was just 2 minutes away. We will definitely be back…sorry The staff couldn’t have been more helpful and happy to go out their way to make life easy for travellers. Thank you team Treyarnon

These place was very nice and quiet for a drink. The staff were very quick to welcome walkers and made sure every one in our friends group was given fresh water in their bottles before we even ordered drinks from the bar. We explained to them we had a bad day and a man at a camp field Mother Ivey was very offensive to us, so we could not stop for water when we liked and walked much farther to this place. Please to the owners. Thank your fantastic wonderful man that runs the bar here. He is kind and wise for so young and he made our day have a little brightness more than just a sunny day

Although this place is very basic as rooms go I still enjoyed staying here It was a bit difficult to find as I was driving a coach which meant I couldn't drive along most of the roads leading to the hostel but once I did find the correct road it was worth the views overlooking the beach. The hostel itself is basic but the staff make up for it and the outside added to the value of the hostel

We visited YHA Treyarnon for tea. I wasn't sure which beer to have so the person serving offered me a taste of the draught beer. It was delicious so I ordered a pint for myself and one for my partner. We also ordered a burger and chips, macaroni cheese and a side of onion rings. It came to less than £30 in all. In our area that it a great price. We sat outside in the lovely beer garden... The food came really quickly and was delicious. The staff were really friendly. It was such a lovely experience. Excellent location overlooking the beach. Lots of seating outside. Good choice of reasonably priced drinks. I drank the local bitter most nights we visited and apart from one visit, found it to be very nice. The draught cider was popular with our group. We only ate there once, but found the food to be tasty and well priced. Kitchen shut at 8.30pm each evening we were there. Limited seating indoors which might be a problem in the height of the holiday season. Tables can’t be booked. The staff worked like troopers. Hat’s off to them. We ate here twice over the bank holiday when my brother stayed here. What a location. A few steps from Treyarnon beach and 5 minutes form Constantine. I would describe the food here as slightly above average. £50 for a family of 4 (including two hungry teenagers) brought us 4 mains, some sides, a beer, a wine and two soft drinks. We sat outside and the view is simply stunning. It was busy but food was reasonably quick and it was very relaxed. We could recommend the nachos and the pizzas. Not sure staying here would be my cup of tea but the location is simply amazing. Also whilst we had the trauma of parking on a sunny bank holiday my brother had the luxury of a parking space. If you’re looking for a low cost accommodation option and are most interested in surf and sea you can’t beat the location of this place. Its awesome.

We have visited of an evening and eaten from their limited menu, this is very popular when they have a live band playing outside (twice a week) Don't expect restaurant style food or service, but for decent food (pizza, burger, chilli etc) at reasonable prices in a rough and ready environment this is great. Great place for a coffee/tea stop with a lovely view of the beach. It has been spruced up since I last went so I was very pleasantly surprised. There is plenty of outside seating too if the weather allows. Will certainly be popping in again.

This is a fabulously placed youth hostel right on the beach. A great hostel with friendly staff and newly refurbished. Would definitely revisit.

Visited every year for the past 5 years. Brilliant coffees and great breakfast sandwiches to break up a walk along the coast

This is an amazing location for a YHA the scenery speaks for itself. The staff compliment the scenery and combination works perfectly. We love coming to this part of Cornwall and the attention to detail that the staff show there guests is second to none. The staff have a real can do attitude and nothing is too much trouble. 5 stars from us without a second thought.

Spent two nights last weekend at the Treyarnon Bay Youth Hostel. It has just been refurbished and it is a secret little gem right on the beach. Staff were excellent and welcoming.

We enjoyed a Mediterranean vegetable pizza and nachos sitting in the sunshine overlooking the beautiful Treyarnon bay. The food was tasty , reasonably priced and served quite quickly.

Comfortable room, friendly staff, food is good and the bar is open! What more do you need for £40 a night for a ensuite room with a double bed! The view is spectacular.

We had a couple of meals at the YHA, good food with great views of the coastline, a couple of evenings we just sat and had a pint whilst enjoying the view.

We have visited the hostel many times for a meal either at lunch time, mid afternoon or the evening. It always represents good value for money and the location is terrific. The menu is not gourmet but it is more than adequate.

We didn't stay at the Hostel but decided to go there for breakfast. The website says breakfast is served between 7.30am and 9.00. Unfortunately they do serve breakfast at 7.30 but for residents only! We called in on our last day hoping to get some breakfast before leaving for home but we were told that we would have to wait until 10.00 to be served. The setting is fantastic, but we were disappointed to be turned away.

I have to admit that I am not the person that comments on anything and everything, nor do I ever right a review of my experience. If I am unsatisfied with the experience, I just won't return again. But ... I have been seeing the Development of this establishment for that past 20 years and treated myself quite often to a night or two in any of the corner or best suites ( highly recommend those ) and enjoyed the ambiance and service this hotel had to offer. Our experience: Arrival to the hotel : We planned to have drinks prior to our meal. Found the bar area as busy as usual. With no free seats in sight, I ask the Brasserie manager if we could order drinks in the main lounge, whereas we been told that there normally is service but he has no clue what they doing today. Not answer I was hoping for. The entrance to the main lounge also been blocked off for some reason. Luckily the wait at bar was sufficient enough to pass the time for a table to become vacant. In previous visits, a relaxed table service was offered but not this time for some reason . Guess it’s an informal 5 star service.. , had to ask for bar menus as neither been on the bar or tables to see what’s on offer. ( also no usual complimentary nuts that used to be offered ) Restaurant We arrived early to our Booking at the samphire and were delighted to be able to be seated, unfortunately without any menus. It took about 10-15 min of us staring holes into the warm air, when I lost my patients and had to get up from the table to ask for menus at the entrance of the Restaurant. Yet again it took quite a while for us to order drinks and food as it seemed to be a chaotic service with everyone doing everything and no restaurant Manager nor head waiter in sight ( please note.. all evening ) . The lack of attention to detail was incredible .. table settings with knives to left and forks to right on every table .. just wow - giggle Food and drinks order done. ( ordered a glass of white wine with my mains, which never arrived ).. Drinks arrived what seamed ages. Overheard table next to us complaining about the slow service too, which been given a small apology but no solution to increase the speed of service ( yet again a lack of management ) Noticed the young waiter being unfamiliar on how to correctly present a bottle of wine and opening it, which I thought should be a training standard for a 5 star establishment. not only did he seem untrained, he also dried his hands in a used napkin left on the table next to him where diners just left. The pork belly starter , was below luke warm which was shame as its been rather tasty. I guess if a portion of this size is sitting on a kitchen pass for mere 3 min, it naturally will loose its core temperature, suggestion.. Next time use a cloche! I wanted to point this out to the service but yet again no manager or headwaiter to be seen and the waiters seem too busy to be bothered. Once they did ask if everything is alright, but by that time we finished what we had on the plate ( which is not a lot if you are hungry ) Unfortunately the main course of the hen and the monk fish not been any better and yet again being luke warm. Dessert of the frangipane tart and pineapple been ok, but yet again no attention to detail, as the dessert been bought out without cutlery being replenished prior. Ordered coffee to be served in the lounge, which arrived with no sugar or spoon and had to be asked for separately. When I paid my bill, I mentioned that the wine I ordered with my main course never arrived. No apology was offered.. A "informal fine Dining " experience. 95% informal - 5 % fine Dining. :-( Over the past 20 years I always chose the Headland hotel for its perfection, attention to detail and impeccable service, this time it's not delivered to its promise which is a shame cause that's what I will remember.. Coming from a 4 to a 5 star .. I expected more ( go back to 4 stars !!! You been better then

I will start by saying the restaurant did reduce our bill and throw in a few free extras but we were very surprised by the quality and portioning of the food. At the time the cafe was very quiet but the staff seemed a little bit chaotic. Orders not being put through properly, items missed off and not knowing what beer they had available. A couple of us ordered the chicken burger (£13) and my son had the kids version (£8.50) but his came with chips. I was pretty shocked when we both received exactly the same sized portion. A small bun, 1/2 a small chicken fillet and one piece of lettuce, not exactly worth £13. The staff did even comment that they there was an issue but still felt it was fine to serve and just expect people to pay. The pizzas were but ok but again surprised when we we charged £3 for 2-3 sliced olives as an extra. We've eaten at many other places up and down the coast and based on our experience we would not return.

We chanced upon this cosy, historic pub while out walking along the Saint's Trail from Perranporth to Cocks on Thursday, 5th December. We initially popped in for lunch - sandwiches, dripping cooked chips plus drinks - and ended up returning that evening for fish and chips, and again on Sunday lunchtime for the Sunday roast. We were that impressed!!!! The haddock and chips was sublime, as was the roast pork, which came with all the trimmings plus the excellent cauliflower cheese as an extra. The desserts of sour cherry roulade and sticky toffee pudding were also excellent. Finally, Matt clearly knows how to keep beer as both the London Pride and Landlord were perfect. As others have recently commented, the new landlords, Matt and Diane, are a class act and we found them very friendly, accommodating and professional. They have a lot of experience from previous ventures and we wish them well at the Bolingey Inn - we will certainly return there, next time we are on holiday in the area and will happily recommend it to others.
