Dreadful menu and terrible service. Menu was limited to say the least and they didn’t have what I wanted. Had breakfast there this morning and couldn’t have poached eggs only fried, reason being ‘we only have 1 chef’ ……a chef who can’t poach eggs!!!!

Shame, it's closing down soon, great service currently, and good portion sizes. Always busy. I hope new owners don't ruin it.

Came here with family and to be honest we weren't expecting the world due to it being a chain . However we were so pleasantly surprised as the staff were absolutely amazing! Lovely food too. Would definitely recommend this place. Very enjoyable experience.

I would highlight recommend Treacle Mine, I’ve spent a week here as been staying in the premier inn for work . Even when the restaurant is busy ( which it is and I can see why) the staff are brilliant , waiting time for food is non existent everything came out in good time , no long waits between courses . The food was perfect every time and the menu has such huge choice . Having stayed away for work weeks at a time you find with the meal deal you run out of options but that’s not the case here . Very nice atmosphere, very cosy and staff go out of their way to make your stay memorable. One waiter even did a smiley face on my pan cakes on pan cake day ! All meals are great value for money too .

I visited the treacle mine on 10th Jan, was welcomed at the door by a happy lady, she showed me and my friend to my table. Service was quick, food was great.

We visited last week whilst staying at the adjacent premier inn for a family funeral. Going in for drinks at 3.00 following the service, we were understandably not in the best of spirits. However the warmth of welcome - we were greeted as we approached the bar even though the bar person - Kane - was busy on another service - and service from both him and the landlord - I use this term rather than manager as he ran the place as a proper host in the old tradition - soon made us feel right at home and significantly lifted our mood. The bar food was great and service ( again from Kane ) quick and well informed. We returned for breakfast the following morning and this did not disappoint. In spite of the fact it was very busy ( the sign of success ) everything went very smoothly and again food/service first class. This place is obviously really well run by very hard working customer focussed team, only wish it was in Cambridge.

Went for breakfast had booked and we were led to table with no explanation about how to get drinks or anything…. We worked it out for ourselves and the continental was not clean and people using hands to grab everything not very hygienic…. We then ordered the hot stuff we ordered scrambled egg on toast and a bacon sandwich and one cooked breakfast….. the scrambled eggs came out on a plate then we were told to do our own toast by which time the eggs were cold and horrible ….. the bacon came on a plate and we were told to get our own bread by which time the bacon was cold….. the cooked breakfast had two cold fried eggs and raw black pudding ….. nobody checked if we enjoyed our food and then we had to ask how to pay and we were told that they were short staffed and we needed to go to bar to pay… first time there such a shame was not good !! Our food was left on plates on the table nobody cleared our table and we still had to pay the full price .. do t think we would go there again

We recently had a meal here and was served by Caine who remembered our orders and he didn’t have a pen or pad, he took time to speak to everyone and nothing was to much trouble, we have been there before and we enjoy then too, thank you Caine for your patience with us all and we will definitely be back!

I have been here quite a few times to meet friends that are local for drinks. I recently met with friends for dinner here and the service was brilliant. The young gentleman, I believe called Kane is always so welcoming and friendly. He goes above and beyond with his customer service and is always happy to chat and go out of his way to make sure we have had a great experience. This 100% is a reason to return with such a warm welcome and friendly atmosphere. Definitely recommend.

We had a brilliant Christmas Day lunch and the food was absolutely superb. From beginning to end our waiter Kaine looked after us impeccably. Nothing was to much trouble for him which made our visit even more enjoyable. We will Definitely be booking for next year. Well done Kaine, you are a great asset to the Treacle Mine. Empty restaurant and still took over 15 mins to cook burgers and when food arrived the portions were tiny, definitely not worth the prices they charge

The food is standard fayre but cooked well. The service was reasonable for food but the drinks service was slow! Apparently a technical fault but if staff wrote the order down it would not have a problem.The staff were very friendly but rushed off their feet.

My mum and I had a great lunch here today, we had a lovely table and a really friendly efficient server. We chose from the lunch menu 2 for 8.99, we had the smothered chicken, absolutely fantastic value, food was hot tasty and excellent, my mum enjoyed her usual Prosecco and a liqueur coffee and I enjoyed a tasty brownie and the bill was less than £25 super value.

While we were staying at Premier Inn, Polegate we ate at Treacle Mine, which was dinner on 7 January 2022 and breakfast on 8 Janaury 2022

After a fantastic stay at the Polegate Premier Inn with the most kind and attentive staff, we were then treated appallingly by the staff at this restaurant which is located next to the hotel when we went for dinner. After some time waiting at the door a lady reluctantly greeted us, however she lacked basic human manners and we were taken aback by her attitude towards us. We were then seated at a dirty table, which we asked for it to be cleaned multiple times before having to finally ask to be moved. Our order was taken at the new table, however with the lack of customer service skills the staff here have, the wait on the food and the pure dirty setting we decided we would not hang around, so we left early. Shame as our stay in the hotel was so lovely, let down by this place

Barman dropped a large fizzy drink all over my daughter she was soaked she had to remove her top and sit and eat her meal in her jacket. All we got was oops i will get a towel. They even had the check to charge for the drink. Apology came from a Waitress who quickly came over with lots of napkins. Food was ok but he really spoiled our time there.

Just got back from our groups Xmas lunch booking for 17 people. What a great time we had, being well looked after by manager Alex and his team. Quick visitHad been trying to find a restaurant for a quick stopover on the way to Brighton. Other restaurants in the area had upto an hour's wait for food. Spoke to Kelly on a phone call explained the situation and she got us a booking. Arrived and quickly seated. Leeanne served us and we had our mains in about 20 minutes. Cottage pie and Cheeseburger between us., Followed by desert. In and out in 45 minutes and able to make our appointment in Brighton. Well done to the Treacle Mine staff, great customer service.

I used the restaurant which is adjacent to the Premier Inn at Polegate. Hadn’t booked a table but was greeted by pleasant hostess who led me to a table. It was mid afternoon and busy but the service was quick and attentive. Had the home made cottage pie which was scrumptious. Highly recommend the quality of food and great service.

Prebooked to take my daughter for lunch for her 18th birthday. Plenty of hand sanitiser stations were available which is good. I had the big stack burger, my daughter had a chicken burger, and my wife had the classic cheese burger. It has to be said these are the best chips we’ve had in a long while.

Food not exactly hot , peas are like bullets and staff too busy buttering up the hotel guests . Carpets have been down for years and desperately need changing especially in the end section ( the conservatory.) absolutely filthy.

I was shown to a well lit table as I wanted to read after my meal. The main course was a superb fish and chips. The dish had mushy peas and a generous small dish of tartare sauce. I then had a mini-pud, profiteroles with a black coffee also a delight. I felt my custom and wishes were valued, respected and welcomed. The food quality was superb and the coffee was great. Above al was friendly and efficient service.

We chose to visit Treacle Mine on Sunday 17th october for a birthday get together. Table was booked for 4:30 , we arrived and and was shown to our table where we waited approx 20-30 mins for our drinks order to be taken. Then after 10-20 mins our food order was taken when we were told that they had just run out of roast beef (which unfortunately a few of us had wanted) this along with the list we already had of what was not available was very disappointing.However Kane our waiter (whom was serving quiet a few tables) apologised and did offer an alternative, I have to say that had it not been for Kane we would have not stayed he is a credit to Treacle Mine i only hope they appreciate his hard work.After we finally got our starters and they were cleared we did after another wait get our main courses, food was ok but i have had better there many times before (roast pots were not great and chips were dry and over cooked). As we waited for a far while for our mains to be cleared another waitress (Vicky) decided to come over demanding to know weather or not we wanted a pudding because our table was booked out again and made us feel like it was our fault we were still sitting at the table. Kane very quickly came over to apologise if his colleague had come across rude and that we didnt have to rush at all and we had the table for as long as we wanted. Unfortunately we were so shocked at the rudeness of the waitress it ruined our meal. We did talk to manager and she did come over but to be honest did very little to rectify our bad experience we didnt get any discount at all which may have helped a little with a gesture of good will, Vicky did also come over to apologise but it was a very half-hearted apology (and only because she was made to)Kane however deserves a medal he was amazing and if it hadnt have been for him we would have left alot more disappointed. You need to sort this out as its a shame.

We visited the Treacle mine on Sunday 17th October 2021 , table was booked for 6pm . We were shown to our seats and waited for 30 minutes to be served. Kane the waiter took our drinks order which arrived approx 15 mins later then Kane took our food order . I noticed that Kane was also serving approx a number of tables surrounding ours , he was extremely busy , I asked Kane whether they were short staffed and he replied that they were just very busy . I felt that he was under a lot of pressure, and he remained calm and attentive . We ate our starters and mains and let just before 8pm . I have to say that it was Kane that kept us there as I felt like leaving . Kane had also served us earlier in the year on a previous visit and again he was very attentive but also under a lot of pressure . I cannot fault the service when it eventually arrived , hence why we added a gratuity onto the bill, but did feel that Kane was put under a lot of pressure dealing with an amount of covers , so hats off to him and I hope the Treacle Mind realise what a good representative he is for them . Well done Kane but I feel that the Treacle Mine need to speed up the service by trying to employ mor staff

The service was very good, the food was also and quite good value. I had the haddock and chips, which I enjoyed.Ordered a pint of ale and went to sit down, and noticed there were bits of food on the glass, so I took it back. Completely unacceptable to have poor standards like this in an eating establishment. Bar man was very apologetic and gave a fresh drink in a clean glass. The guy who cleared my table after eating, who I think might have been the manager would not have looked out of place in a high class restaurant.

Second time here was for Sunday lunch, after having a lovely evening meal on our first visit. Both visits we were served by Vicky, who was very friendly and helpful. Orders were all correct plus food was hot, tasty and good value. Tables well spaced out and on both visits we were with friends that also enjoyed. Well done Vicky and the team.

After a lovely family day at Sheffield park we booked for 9 of us for dinner at the Treacle Mine. Warmly greeted by Vicki who continued to be attentive throughout our time there. Can not fault the food and service. Will definitely return and recommend.

FIrst visit even though it is only 10 minute drive away. Went at lunchtime, very few people there. Very good staff and service but would have preferred to see Servers wearing masks. There is a notice by the door saying due to supply problems not all meals were available. Order taken by a lovely friendly server. No Prosecco available but offered a sample of another one which was a nice touch and good choice. Told only green vegetables available were peas but she would ask Chef if there was a possibility of anything else. Luckily a full plus size portion of peas was served with a few runner beans which was much appreciated. Both meals were enjoyable but the small portion of coleslaw was horrid. Please find another coleslaw supplier. Soft drinks quite expensive. Would visit again.

An amazing family meal out , covid safe clean fanstatic new decor. Great service shout out to kane and the manager Alex. Won my fussy 9 year old over with delicious mac and cheese! Definitely worth the 7 hour drive from Cornwall we will be back !

WOW! Went for a Sunday Roast Dinner and from start to finish it was perfect! The Beef was perfectly cooked with still red juices. The home made red wine gravy was to die for. Can’t wait to be back.mido

Pleasantly surprised at our visit having been disappointed when visiting similar restaurants. Our food was tasty, well presented and hot with no excessive waiting. Portions were good too. The service was outstanding. Corina in particular went the extra mile to ensure we had a good evening. Helpful, knowledgeable about the menu and pleasantly engaging during the evening. One of the best waitresses we have encountered in a long time. Restaurant suitable for families, but also good for anyone who wants a good square meal at a reasonable proce.

Whilst visiting family in the area we thought we’d try this Whitbread Inn. We weren’t disappointed. The host Gino was very warm and welcoming. Our waitress Vicky was amazing, she was amazing with our young son. She clearly knew her job inside out. The food came out in prompt time and was hot and tasty! I had chicken wings and doom bar pie both were incredible! My sons 3 courses, for £4.99 on the kids menu, was big portions. Lastly a young lad bought our drinks over from the bar, Owen I believe. He was very friendly and polite and made our drinks perfectly. Couldn’t have asked for a better experience.

Was so looking foreword to having breakfast here whilst on holiday. Unfortunately we left disappointed as they had run out of croissants/ pain au chocolat by 10.15!We arrived just after 9.30 and were shown to our table. Our cooked breakfast order was taken and we helped ourselves to drinks. The food arrived and was fine - pretty much the same as you get most places. When i had finished, I fancied some pastries - but they had all gone. I patiently waited for a server to appear to ask if she would put some more out. She informed me that there were none left! Hard to believe in a large restaurant like this. In future please make sure you order enough so that the customers needs are met.

very nice meal, had to have in the bar as we hadn't booked. Just a shame the meal wasn't hot, definitely needs to be when its a Sunday Roast. 2two very large Yorkshires was too much for me, one would have been sufficient but at least I will know next time. It’s been a while since I have eaten here and it was not as good. I have no idea if it was, but our food was as if it was prepared somewhere else, frozen, transported, defrosted and microwaved. My sauce had once been wet but was rather dry when presented and it didn’t taste of much either. The chips however were really delicious, hot and generously proportioned.

Called in on way home from a day out. We were greeted by a tall red haired guy, smiling and very polite. He seated us, gave us menus, came back to take our order. It was a quiet period on Sunday evening 1st August so we didn't have to wait long, our meal was good, the restaurant was clean. The guy who had seated us was extremely pleasant and joked with us throughout. We'll be going back.

You book through the hotel and can take advantage of the meal deal offered by Premier Inn which means the meals are cheaper than if you paid individually. Had the continental breakfast for £6.99 and the main meal was around £28. The breakfast consisted of a choice of cereal, tea coffee fruit juice. Croissants, jam toast and yogurts, as much as you like. Service was quick and staff are super friendly. The evening dinner I had was, prawn cocktail as starter, battered haddock, chips and garden peas for main and a Belgian chocolate and hazelnut dessert. All these meals were nicely presented, the fish was excellent. Overall a very pleasant experience. Well worth a visit.

I don't usually leave reviews but the service we received on Sunday was exceptional. We were a family of 7 having breakfast and nothing was too much trouble for our waiter James (i think). Not only that but it was our daughter's birthday wich we hadn't announced other than that she was wearing a badge, and the manager brought her a signed card and some chocolates. The food was was good and plentiful as ever. Thank you for a great start to the day.

This was a last minute booking after being let down by another local restaurant who were experiencing staff shortages through illness.We were looked after from beginning to end by a first class waiter with a wonderful sense of humour.The food was really good with a very good choice of all courses.Would definitely recommend to others and we will go there again.

Eat here one night whilst away on business staying in the hotel next door. I always eat early and the place was really quiet when I entered. Unfortunately the staff were too busy talking and wandering around to notice that customers needed service.

Had an amazing family Sunday dinner today for my grandparents birthdays. Our server Kane was great as we had come the previous day for dinner we came back today as we had such a great time previous day. Kane was brilliant as usual and will have us coming back for more. Food was amazing and great value for money.

Terrible! The food was disgusting. Would not suggest coming here, thought we would try it as somewhere different from our usual café and was very disappointed.Firstly the lady served us the wrong drinks, I explained we asked for tea not a coffee as she took it away, she offered the same cup of coffee to somebody else after we had touched it and smelt it to realise it was a coffee and not a tea! This shouldn’t have been done in ‘normal’ circumstances but being in Covid-19 this was more concerning! The food was cold, toast was burnt and the beans were dry. Overall, a terrible experience.

Just had an amazing dinner for my parents birthday and we had the best experience thanks to our amazing server Kane! He was brilliant really looked after us all and is a huge credit to the treacle mine. He sang Happy Birthday and put candles in their puddings. Great food with the best service oh and to top it off it's coming home⚽

We had a lovely meal served by the lovely Kane. On the evening if 1st July 2021We were greeted at the desk very well and the lady was very polite and friendly. Sorry didn’t get her name. Then Kane our waiter was excellent, he didn’t even need to write down our choices he remembered them. Good banter and service was excellent. Previously we had had a very bad experience at the Treacle Mine but they seam to have turned themselves around. Breakfast was also excellent and all the staff very friendly and efficient. Thoroughly recommend. Also good for coeliacs as good menu choices.

Felt very comfortable eating here, Covid-19 guidelines very clear. Don't expect fancy five star restaurant food, but you will get a good variety on offer which is cooked well. We stayed at the Premier Inn opposite for four nights and ate here each night. The rump steaks were very tasty and cooked as ordered, the sharing platter was an ideal way to start a meal, and the lasagne was perfect. Unfortunately there was a problem with the cellar and there was no real ale on draft but bottles were available instead. The only down side was trying to attract the waitresses attention when you wanted to order another drink - table service only at the moment - they always seemed to be looking the other way but were very friendly when they eventually served you.

I took my mum out for lunch for the first time since lockdown last year and my dad passing away, we had such a lovely lunch, the lunch deal is amazing value, we enjoyed the chicken curry and my mum had a lovely liqueur coffee to finish. I had a brownie which was tasty. Service by allStaff was really friendly and it was very clean and well run, would definitely recommend.
