Travellers Rest in Cheshire West and Chester

We went for Sunday lunch here, I love dogs however it smelt of dogs a little too much which can put you off your food, my roast was nice you got plenty, wasn’t keen on boiled parsnips though, my friend is vegetarian they gave her literally a plate of mostly kale for her roast dinner. Kids menu wasn’t much choice. Prices weren’t too bad luckily, staff were nice

Myself and my partner visited Traveller's Rest as we had heard great reviews from family members. They didn't disapoint, the atmosphere was warm and friendly. Mike was very accommodating and he went above and beyond for us- would recommend to anyone passing by and looking for a lovely place to go! Will be back!

Lovely little country pub with beautiful views and a relaxing atmosphere. The log burning fire adds to the cosy and relaxed feel. More importantly the food was amazing. My partner wanted another steak & ale pie as it was the best he had ever eaten. I highly recommend a visit.

We had a family meal here Sunday afternoon absolutely beautiful 5* service. We will definitely be returning. Our son has a severe nut allergy & the chef & staff couldn’t do enough for us.

Our family of 11 (7 adults, 4 children) had a wonderful Sunday dinner today. Mike provided us with excellent service. Everyone was pleased with their meals. The sticky toffee pudding was delightful. We would definitely return another time.

Lovely country pub - good beers and a warm welcome. Dog friendly. Thoroughly recommend it - relaxed and a lovely menu can recommend the pizzas great value for money they are huge! They also do take away pizzas

Would not recommend this place to my worst enemy, management shocking looks like they treated staff like s***, food absolutely awful hard pie, near enough frozen veg. All microwave meals, hardly any chips and to many green veg to cover it up. Food is overpriced for a pub, could go to a 5* restaurant with the price. Food took a hour to come out. Our family of 15 felt very let down and will not be returning not one good word to say about this place and would definitely not recommend to others, definitely in need of inspection. Please avoid!!!

Always excellent food and service

We only had a main meals but the food was excellent fish pie is delicious and garlic bread was one of the best I have had sausage and mash was also excellent we will definitely be going back

To be fair we didn’t try the food as we didn’t stay. Outside was a wind blown sign advertising “under new management”, there were empty drinks cans and bottles in the car park and the litter inside the entrance must have been there for weeks. Despite all that we had a look at the menu. Is it me or is £9 for a calamari starter taking the mickey?

Booked here for Mother’s Day all excited for our roast dinners, waited 45 mins for the food to arrive and the food had absolutely no flavour to it ☹️ was really looking forward to my Mother’s Day Sunday roast and was left very disappointed. Prior to the new owners taking over we vowed never to go in again as the food was awful. We then decided to give the new owners a try and what a difference! A lovely clean pub nice food and a warm welcome by Mike. We will definitely return. Highly recommended.

Went for a celebration meal with family. The decor has been upgraded and looks stylish and pleasant. The owner was front of house and greeted us on arrival. We had a good table in the window and the traditional fire burning in the grate was a welcome touch. We had drinks & food, the food was tasty, hot and nicely presented, everyone enjoyed what we had. The owner was pleasant and attentive throughout, taking time to chat wine with older family member. We will be back!

Really friendly staff, great place to stop in during a walk

Visiting from Manchester staying at the local Caravan park, and dropped in at lunch met the most friendly staff and had a wonderful experience, so returned for an evening meal and was met by more great staff, the food was beyond perfect x the best food we have had in a restaurant for a long time, compliments to the chef 👩‍🍳 x Highly recommended. My partner and I visited last night for food and drinks. My partner made the reservation and the person taking the call asked if they needed to be aware of any allergies. Partner told them I’m coeliac and person on the phone understood that meant I’d need gluten free. This made me feel super safe from the get go as I’m still used to places not understanding coeliac. On arrival we were greeted by Mike and settled in with drinks. I spoke with Mike about the menu and the HUGE range of GF items. I opted for maple and mustard chorizo, beer battered fish and chips (partner had the steak), and to finish: chocolate brownie. I did double check about the “beer-battered” fish being GF and that it was definitely GF beer used. Mike and the chef both confirmed this. I felt very reassured, especially when Mike told me the chef was cleaning everything down to ensure it was free from cross contamination. Then, the little GF sticks and the chef serving me food herself - I was very happy that it was being taken so seriously. The food itself was amazing. The chorizo starter was a perfect starter to share as there was so much! Nice chunky bits with lots of the marinade in the bottom of the pot for dunking. The fish and chips (small!!!) was a great portion size, nice crisp batter and fish that just melted. My partner tried some and he said it was better than some gluten containing fish and chips he’s had 😂 dessert: again big portion size and again, glad we shared as we didn’t really have room for it but I’m a sucker for a brownie! After our meal, we spoke with Mike about how they were new owners and he explained that the chef specialises with allergens and it’s something that they’re proud of - and rightly so. I wouldn’t expect a country pub to be so knowledgeable but I was pleasantly surprised. Thank you so much. We will definitely visit again and recommend to ALL ❤️

Called in after a couple of hours walking in Delamere Forest. We were welcomed by Mike and were shown straight to our table. Our food arrived in good time after ordering and was piping hot and delicious. My wife particularly enjoyed the halloumi fries which she said were the 'best she had ever tasted!' Our compliments were passed onto Elektra, (the owner and chef), via Mike. We would heartily recommend this pub/restaurant if you are looking for good quality food and service, and are in the area!

Had a lovely meal, even the dog had his own menu as well as dinner. Portion sizes are great and the dessert was amazing ! I would definitely recommend !

What can I say except the food was excellent, the staff are so polite and friendly. Plus its a dog friendly pub which is good to know as we can bring our dogs with us next time

Amazing service, as soon as we walked through the door. Greeted and served by Mike who was really friendly and hospitable. We are a family of four with a dog. All the food was home made so it took that little bit of extra time but the wait wasn’t long at all and the food was very good! Couldn’t fault it at all! The doggy menu was a lovely touch too! Very reasonable prices and Bella (the dog) loved it. Although we didn’t use it on this occasion, the beer garden looked lovely - great for summer months! We have not been here for almost 30 years. Today driving back from Lady Heys we stopped for a drink and something to eat. What a beautiful atmosphere. The decor is calm and crisp but does not take away the charm of a very rustic building. The food, what can I say????? Absolutely loads! The menu is slender with something for everyone. The quality of the produce was second to none. The little things like the bread absolutely top quality. We had a shared Camembert platter and our Mum has the recommended soup of the day, carrot and ginger. Then we all had the chicken on ciabatta. A succulent juicy breast of chicken on a warm ciabatta roll. With a very small but just so right amount of rocket and baby tomatoes. The chicken was topped with a good wholesome cheese with a smidgen of BBQ sauce. Then an incredible thick slice of smoked back bacon. This was served with good quality chips and a choice of relishes. We definitely did not expect such quality in a pub lunch. They had a choice of beers and cask ales along with a good variety of wines. Again the service was second to none. One amazing find. We will definitely be going back. Thank you

Welcoming, warm and friendly staff, good is delicious. We was staying at lady Hayes site and this pub is 0.5miles away and only 10 min brisk walk. We went for lunch which we had for starters chorizo sausages and mozeralla sticks. Followed by three flavoured sausages and mash, and steal and pie. We then decided to go for dinner which the gentleman who served us said we can have the steak Wednesday as I said it was my partners birthday. Which I found very kind of them. We also was too stuffed for pudding so we had this to take out. I found the pricing very good to the high quality meals we had, they also cater to food allergies. 10 out of 10 and we will be back.

Called in for Lunch on our anniversary, first time we have ever visited. Mike was very friendly and attended to us quickly. Good food and drinks and we have no hesitation in recommending the pub.

Ive been working my way through the menu with my mum over the last few weeks and there is such a wide choice of fantastic dishes, none of which have disappointed. The service has been excellent, the staff so friendly and welcoming, even remembering what me and mum drink on arrival. Cant recommend this place enough right now.

8 of us called in for food over Christmas / New Year whilst driving past. New owners are doing a great job. Good menu with good portions. All food was cooked and presented well. Big open fire, stone floors, real ales and the owners were really pleasant. Really enjoyed our visit. *the free wet wipes and nappys within the baby change was a nice touch*

What a remarkable transformation! I recently visited the Traveller's Rest with my family, and I must say, the positive changes are impressive. The new management, despite facing challenges with an outdated kitchen and broken appliances, has turned things around big time. On several occasions since the new owner took over, we’ve enjoyed excellent meals that surpassed our expectations. The trio of sausages meal, in particular, was delicious. The dedication of the new management is evident not only in the food but also in the upgraded selection of fantastic beers! The contrast with the previous management is stark, and it's clear the place is now on a positive trajectory. Kudos to Electra for her hard work and commitment to delivering a great experience. We look forward to our next visit!

Have been here a few times as we like to camp out nearby and have been underwhelmed . On reading that it was now under new ownership and judging by the good reviews we decided to give it one last go. What a transformation. I will start at the bar, a good selection of premium lagers and the old faithfuls plus a couple of cask beers. Couldnt decide whether to chance it on the cask so the Barmaid pulled me a sample of each to test , still slightly apprehensive. I ordered the pale ale with the assurance that if I wasn’t happy with it then just bring it back and she would replace it with a lager of my choosing free of charge. How’s that for service ! Now onto the food. We ordered the salt and pepper chicken skewers as a starter to share , just as well as it would probably constitute as a meal In itself on its own. Delicious. For mains I ordered the steak and guiness pie and the wife ordered the fish and chips. Best fish and chips we have had since Whitby and the pie was as good as I have ever had and believe me I’ve had a few. Staff so attentive without being over intruding . Doing all the right things. A winning formula as far as I am concerned. Highly recommend.

We was staying in lady heyes and decided to take a short walk to the nearest pub, upon entering we received a very warm welcome to our suprise the owner (just husband and wife running it) had just taken over one week before amazing customer service starters was very tasty we had S&P chicken skewers and halloumi fries. For 2 starters 2 mains and 2 drinks each for 2 people very cheap and will be returning a really nice visit would highly recommend for mains we had gammon and chips and a steak burger 😊
