Mill at Upton in Cheshire West and Chester

We went for a meal after work for a friend's birthday, I'd called in the morning to see if they'd be able to do a candle in her pudding at the end of the meal. They didn't have any in the kitchen so a member of staff ran across to the shop to buy some. A small thing that meant a lot for the birthday girl. Always good food and friendly staff.

Nice meal of braised steak, mash and green beans. The IPA was lovely

Attended at funeral there today. There was one barman on. He served the food plus served the drinks all on his own.He was fantastic can't recommend the food highly enough. Thank you so much 👍

Marvellous restaurant, friendly staff and great food. The whole party enjoyed their meal and I had the Small Plates selection: Lamb Koftas, Black Pudding Bon Bons & Cheddar Garlic Baguettes which were delicious! Highly recommended!

Definitely one for the sports enthusiast. Everywhere in the restaurant is covered by TVs showing various matches, bouts etc. Food took over an hour to arrive, but was delicious and well priced.

Had high hopes after reading reviews but was very disappointed. Visited recently while staying at the premier inn next door. As it was ‘curry night’ decided on the beef madras. However, it contained 4 small pieces of meat, the rest was sauce. Rice was dry, poppadoms burnt and the mango chutney absolutely vile. The naan was lovely though! I complained to the female waitress as couldn’t eat it but no refund or discount offered. (Pay on ordering) Will not go again and recommend others do not either.

Just had a fabulous meal at The Mill. Such excellent value too for the good we had. Obviously cooked by a chef who cares! Fresh ingredients too and very reasonable prices. Definitely best food around. Will return! X

Very slow service. Waited nearly 10mins to get a drink. You need more than 1 staff at the bar. But the bitter was excellent when it finally came.

I had the mushrooms in garlic and Stilton sauce and they were amazing. My wife had the Lamb Koftas and thoroughly enjoyed them. We both had the Trailblazer Steak and my wife said it was the best meal she had had in a long time. It was a lovely way to present a steak in a nice rich gravy. I would highly recommend this place.

Just visited here as two families with young children. Cannot recommend highly enough. Lovely staff, excellent food and so kind to the kids even giving us takeaway trays for our ice-cream as we had to leave. Will be coming back soon! Thanks to everyone.

We went on a quiet lunchtime for a family meal. We received a friendly welcome upon our arrival and were seated quickly. We have people in our party with sensory issues, so we asked if it was possible to have the speakers turned down in our section and the manager sorted it immediately. The food arrived quickly, it was well presented and piping hot. Our favourite starter was the hot honey chicken - you get five big chunks each, which was a good size for a starter. The mains were all similarly excellent quality, the gammon and pineapple was perfectly done and delicious. For pudding, we had the Malteser and salted caramel sundae. It came served in a mason jar, full to the brim with ice cream, cream, sauce and crushed maltesers. And a flake! We had a lovely meal and will definitely visit again. I work for a 4 star hotel. And have the pleasure of thier meals. But the Sunday lunch we had at the mill was outstanding. Well done Luke and the rest of the team. As always fantastic service from Amy James and George. And not forgetting new comer Megan. All are a triumph members of Mickey and Olivia team. One of best places to eat in Chester.

Visited with family for Sunday Roast. Excellent service but a little disappointed with the meal which was warm rather than hot. Other than that everything was fine. Good selection of veg.

THE 3 COURSE CHRISTMAS dinner today a little disappointed. First I asked if there was beef I was informed no only turkey on the. C/D menu !. I was told by another customer he had had beef he said there was a variety of choice which I did not get offered when I booked a few weeks ago?? I 5hought strange but ok !! The roast potatoes where overdone so to hard & crisp couldn't chew same with the stuffing had to leave all of that which spoilt the dinner straight away, disappointed the sprouts were frozen not fresh . It made me wonder for the money it cost how much of it was fresh. Only had a slice of turkey on my plate, & it had alot of fat on it ?? cabbage was lovely, left the Yorkshire pudding. Starters where okay pudding was delicious. Staff where lovely welcoming & helpful . Just a pity the hiccup of the over cooked rock roasters & stuffing same, 2 main parts of the Christmas lunch..Did ruin the dinner today Atmosphere was relaxing. I'm not sure I can big up Christmas lunch there today sorry . A quite alot of customers said same about over cooked food spoilt it .. The worst Christmas dinner ever in life. I have come home starving. First course terrine was so solid felt and tasted still frozen. Sirloin beef main course was supermarket sliced beef that was more fat than meat. Roasties so solid the knife had problems getting though them and the red wine and thyme gravy looked and tasted identical to the turkey gravy. £65 per head never again. Shocking food considering price. 😞

Lovely decor great service from staff.Food was sooo nice belly pork melt in the mouth, I had braised steak and onion with mash and green beans which I don't normally eat but I ate every one.The hubby had black pudding apple bon bons with a bacon cream sauce as a starter then fish chips garden peas bonus was battered salt and vinegar scraps.Cherry bake and ice cream perfect dessert to end the meal off. 10 out of 10..

We were on an overnight stay for Chester Christmas Market (4 adults) We chose to dine at the Mill and was extremely disappointed when we received our food The Sunday lunch was cold meat was very stringy unbeatable the veg was like rubber. The only decent meal out of the 4 meals we ordered was the curry. We left all the food we ordered apart from the curry. The assistant who took out full plates asked if everything was OK with the food and when we said no it was cold and uneatable she said its probably because it is getting towards the end of the evening ( total excuse).

We try to visit The Mill at least every six weeks, our best pub/restaurant. They have recently had a new menu which is truly amazing. I had the best fish and chips ever. Real fresh fish, crunchy thin batter and delicious scraps and my hubby enjoys the steak and ale pie, his favourite and always choses this when we visit. Don't miss out, visit next time you're on the way to Chester, its a must.

If you are very very patient then come here by all means. We have had to wait 45 minutes between main and desert. Food OK but the two staff are young girls and could not give a toss! Service is appalling, more interested in changing tv channels than seeing to customers. I

Called in after visit to Countess of Chester Hospital. "Fish and chips Friday" is excellent value - large fish in tasty batter, plenty of chips, tartar sauce and mushy peas. Highly recommended. Extensive menu and range of drinks.

I stayed in Premier Inn next door, so had evening meal here. Very nice helpful staff, only small down side; if your on your own its bar service giving table number, so you could lose your table if busy if no coat or item to show table taken. Nice menu, little limited for veggies, however I had a very nice cheese pie with mash and peas, which I very much enjoyed. Reasonable pricing for food and drinks, they also run promotational nights, ie..Currey night including a drink etc. I would recommend you give this place a go, if you havent been before. I personall would be back next time in Chester.

Had a three course meal with my husband this evening, the pub is a lovely vibrant pub, very clean, inviting and a good atmosphere. Staff are very happy smiley and very polite. Compliments to the chef though the food was very very good! Plentiful portions too we were stuffed! I wouldn’t hesitate coming back here in the future! This pub is a credit to the Joseph Holt Chain! Highly recommended.

We had our Daughters Christening party here, what an amazing pub! The staff are very helpful and friendly, they go above and beyond for the customers! The buffet was amazing, all the food was perfect, even the food that had to be catered for allergies was 5*. Thank you so much for making our daughters day so special and for all your help! We had a celebration for a 90th birthday at The Mill, last night. Amy and the Team went out of their way to deliver an excellent experience - so grateful to them for all that they did for us, including decorating the table with balloons etc, before we got there. A real credit to the pub!

Great pub grub, I had the fish chips and mushy peas and it was delicious worth all the money! It came out hot which was a plus for me. The waitress was lovely, very pleasant. My friend had cheese n onion pie and she said it was delicious. Lots of parking,need to put your registration number number on a screen you first come in,for free parking. Visited this place on a Saturday evening on May bank holiday weekend, and while it was very busy, the staff had time to chat and make you feel welcome. All the staff were helpful and polite and very cheerful. We were a party of 3 , 2 adults and a 6 year old we ordered drinks soon after arriving and were served immediately. We then took 10 minutes to take in the menu and decide what we wanted. We ordered at the bar with no que or waiting. The food did take an hour to arrive as they were very busy. We were kept well informed, and they did tell us our food was getting plated up and was on the way. When the food arrived, which was a mixture of gourmet burgers and selection of small plate meals, it was piping hot and all fresh and extremely tasty . We all enjoyed our visit even though there was a wait for the food to appear from the kitchen it was all excellent and very tasty. The final bill , as we opened a tab for food and drinks and desserts, was very reasonable. We will definitely be visiting again and have recommended the pub restaurant to family. Beware the car park is shared with the Premier Inn and you have to remember to register your number plate on the tablet at the bar as the car park has number plate recognition, so you don't want a fine, remember to record your registration. There are some disabled spaces, although narrow and next to a brick wall, which can be difficult to exit your car for some disabled persons. The pub overall was very inviting, friendly, cosy and comfortable atmosphere. The toilets and facilities were good too and very clean .. on the whole I recommend this pub and will be returning for a meal here again with family. So even though there was a wait for the food it did not spoil the overall enjoyment on our visit so full 5 stars all round.

Sunday roast.. called in! In the off chance to see if they were able to accommodate us. They manage to fit us in and nothing was to much trouble for the staff. We ordered two roast dinners that were piping hot and full of flavour....

Having had a lovely meal a few weeks back we returned today to try the Sunday lunch. Wow what a fab meal and a great price. Proper Yorkshire puddings, great pigs in blankets and very filling. The best Sunday lunch we have had in a long time. The staff are lovely as well and very friendly. We will be back soon and recommend you to our friends.
