Cinderbox Coffee in Cheshire West and Chester

Whilst spending a few nights here in Chester with my Cheeky Chick we felt the need for a full English and found this little cafe. Very well presented and loved the tables and comfy chairs with the featured low ceiling all helps with the vibe well done with that love it. Service was great ordered the food and drinks which were brought over. The breakfast was smashing I have never had a sausage so big, what a banger no time for photos too busy eating. This cafe has done well for me to do a review, so boys and girls IF you like a sausage on your plate with Girth then this place is for you, you won't be disappointed 😜👍

Had breakfast here today. I chose fruit, granola and Greek yoghurt, toast & marmalade, fruit tea. Very tasty friendly staff, reasonable prices.

Went here for a work lunch and we where served quickly and the food was great. Well worth waiting a little.

My twin brother and I were walking down Bridge Street on a bitterly cold February evening when we decided to drop by Cinderbox Coffee and what a great find. A wonderful looking cafe ,interior is superb, its cosy, light and airy, brilliant decor and furnishings and seating options spread throughout both inside and outside and outside looking out onto the busy and beautiful Bridge Street, its just a really good cafe to unwind in and all housed in a fabulous looking building. My twin brother and I were here on a bitterly cold early afternoon, cafe was warm and inviting, we grabbed a table were we ordered a flat white coffee each, these were served steaming hot, we chilled out, warmed up and soaked up the great vibe in this busy and popular cafe while we sipped our coffee's. From the first sip till the last sup you can tell they use quality ingredients in their coffee and take great pride in the coffee they serve in this busy and popular cafe, its hardly surprising that this cafe is so popular with coffee of this quality. We both really enjoyed our coffee's in here before we moved on and although our visit was only fleeting for a first time visit to Cinderbox Coffee we had a great time. Cinderbox Coffee is easy to locate along Bridge Street, a street and area teeming with pubs, bars, cafe's and restaurants and some amazing architecture and a major tourist destination. Opening hours are; Monday to Sunday, 8am till 5pm. Well worth checking out if you're in the area or planning a trip to Chester.

Georgia and Alma are shining stars. They take great joy and pride in presenting the high quality coffee and delightful food with local provenance. Full marks!

The coffees that we had were lovely and very affordable compared to other Chester city centre cafes. However this was massively let down by the extremely rude girl on the till and the lack of dairy free butter/ spread - very unaccommodating for those with dairy intolerances/ vegans.

We’ve been in a few breakfast cafes in Chester. This is one of the best yet. Good menu, great coffee and the service was excellent. Eggs cooked just right and the bacon was very tasty. Not the cheapest but not dear for what you get. Recommended.

Amazing lunch yesterday! Greeted by a very friendly and lovely lady. Overall the place had a nice chilled atmosphere. Excellent service from friendly staff. Food was fresh and absolutely delicious. Nice vegetarian choice for my daughter who normally struggles to find options she likes. Mochas and hot chocolate were out of this world. If we didn't live far away we'd be here all the time!

I sat in the draft of the shop door on a day when the outside temperature was 4°. Apparently it's because the kitchen in the bottom corner can't cope with the smoke/steam from cooking. My tea went cold within a few minutes. I ordered poached eggs on sourdough bread, and all 3 eggs were very underdone and the bread was saturated. Not so much as a sincere apology...I didn't want to reorder as my friend had finished his meal. I was not offered a refund!!!! I can't recommend this poorly run cafe, the staff were not very understanding and with the total bill being almost £25 for brunch for 2, it's not exactly great value. I'd rather have gone to Greg's or McDonald's!

First class coffee 👌when ever we come here from Anglesey this is our first port of call, the menu is amazing which caters for all dietary need. Staff are very friendly, comfortable seating, reasonable priced, and situated in an ideal location which is close to the town and the river.

Went here for Sunday breakfast. Great choice of food, coffee and tea. All the food is freshly prepared and local. The coffee was really nice too. Friendly staff. No wonder it’s so busy!

Arrived to have a coffee & cake. Stood waiting to order when a rude blonde waitress came and told us to go sit and she’ll come and take our order. We waited 15 minutes with no service, stood up and went next door. Very disappointing, would not return

Outstanding modern cafe. Great coffee, the haloumi on sourdough with pesto and seeds was immense!

NYD 2025, our first visit to what is a great breakfast spot, serving breakfast menu from memory to 3pm. Well organised team and friendly service. My bacon n sausage w fried egg sandwich on sourdough bread was as ordered. Well done. Proper mug of breakfast tea with bag still brewing. My wife enjoyed a welsh rarebit on sourdough and really loved the texture. Very busy at 12.30 am when only 2 tables spare, but service was reasonably good. Being able to see the kitchen team finish dish preparation and bell call for service was good. Would certainly recommend to family and friends.

Impromptu lunch whilst Christmas shopping. I had the steak and eggs on sourdough and my wife had the Welsh Rarebit with sausage and black pudding. Relaxed ambience, warm welcome and excellent service. Quality locally sourced produce; makes all the difference. And the coffee is great too! We’ll be back!

Nice, friendly staff. Good cake and cuppa. You could pay with cash too so that was a bonus! Good location on way into or out of the town.

Visited this morning, food was great and the Nutella croissant is very much recommended! Slight mix up on order but picked up and sorted immediately - good location to most hotels

I had a full English breakfast that was hot and delicious, loved the sourdough toast that came with it, at Cinderbox, and it was fantastic, one of the nicest breakfasts I've ever had. The young staff ladies and young lad were so helpful,pleasent and me very welcoming. I went on a Sunday morning, and it wasn't too busy . What I loved was that it opened at 8 am. I'm sure as well it's dog friendly, There is some seating outside and it's in the heart of the city.

Visited today, had Welsh Rarebit with Ham X2 that was served hot, nice portion size and was a nice meal. Only gripe was the knives need replacing (blunt). Happy to recommend.

If you like your coffee mellow and smooth this is good coffee. The micro bubbles in the milk was absolutely spot on. I do prefer my coffee quite strong with A kick, the service and atmosphere was nice and calming.

Popped in as we were looking for somewhere to get out of the cold wind and have a hot drink. Staff were pleasant enough. We ordered a latte, mocha and salted caramel hot chocolate and a slice of cake. All were very nice if a bit on the expensive side. Nice place and would visit again.

Staff was nice to us, but overall didn't seem to enjoy working there too much. My portion of porridge was extremely small for £4.50, you can't get enough of it. Fruit costs 50p extra. I ordered it twice. The amount has just covered the surface of the tiny bowl. My companion's granola bowl was large enough and had more fruit than my porridge without paying extra. My companion was very satisfied. They offer holler, which was good. The kitchen is at the back of the restaurant and the smells are cooled into the room with the help of the air conditioning, so we left sooner than planned. The toilet could be cleaned up.

Delicious breakfasts. I had bacon in a brioche roll which was outstanding and Husband had granola, yogurt, fruits and honey which was a very generous portion. Highly recommended.

Had breakfast here. Honestly the best meal I ate all weekend. I ordered the wild mushrooms on sourdough with poached eggs absolutely delicious. The coffee was good too. Lovely little place with friendly staff.

Really lovely place for brunch and a sweet treat! Amazing selection, loved the sobrasada and cherry + chocolate rocky road.

We came in here for the first time today and were treated so kindly by all the staff. They were so lovely to us (especially the chef who sent plates with smiley faces made of fruit to cheer up the children who were both ill!). The food and the drinks were delicious and we felt really glad we came here today. I haven't had Welsh rarebit in ages and was glad I chose it.The atmosphere was also very relaxed too - people were coming up to us to chat and it just felt like a lovely place.

Probably one of the nicest smoothies I’ve had in Chester, plus reasonably priced for a decent sized glass. A must in summer!

We only had coffee and we wanted to sit outside and enjoy the spring sunshine. The coffee was not to my taste, but I accept that my experience is not representative of the Cinderbox offering.

Friendly service, high quality sausage and bacon, and the sourdough was so good we went to the bakery afterwards and got a loaf. A little expensive, but it is Chester...

Our first visit to The Cinder Box. We’d already had lunch, so it was just hot drinks & cake, after shopping. Both our drinks & cake were delicious. The carrot cake was just the best I’ve ever tasted…..simply divine. We will have lunch there next time for sure. The ladies serving were very pleasant too…just a very lovely vibe & nice atmosphere.

Have been here many times and it never fails to deliver quality food and drinks. All ingredients are fresh, and what I’d call “proper”. Coffee is excellent, and everything is served by friendly, attentive staff. A must if on Bridge Street

Unfortunately I chose the Welsh rarebit and honey which contained hardly any cheese, just tasted of sourdough bread and honey. I did complain afterwards to the waitress but she seemed uninterested. On the plus side my daughter had eggs Benedict which she enjoyed.

Went to this cafe with my friends as we fancied something sweet and it was perfect!!! Coffee was so rich and tasty and the carrot cake was the best we’ve ever had - so moist and delicious. 100% recommend!

My sister and I had stopped here for a quick snack after a very extensive shopping trip and before we went back to our hotel. I had ordered the open sandwich with bacon and brie was was really nice. Unfortunately my sister had ordered the Welsh Rarebit, I have to be honest it did not look like any rarebit I have ever seen or made before (I am a chef). The topping was a very sticky, dark brown and spread over a slice of sourdough, the taste was most unpleasant. After debating whether to speak to a member of staff my sister did, to be told that the colour was due to it being made with Guinness and if she did not want to eat it he would throw it in the bin, which he promptly did! He did say he would ask the chef ' If it was up to speck' Sadly we will not be going here again, we only felt better that someone else had said the rarebit was a little unusual, sadly we had not looked at reviews before going here. Real shame, as a lovely cafe in a really good spot in Chester

I had Welsh rarebit on Sunday 21st January 2024 for my breakfast! It was just one slice of sourdough, spread with a strange tasting topping. Topped with a pile of rocket leaves! Never again! It cost £8.50 🙁

Had smashed avocado and poached eggs with the tropical smoothie, both of which were absolutely lovely. For a total price of £13, I think this may be one of my favourite if not my favourite cafe in Chester. The polite staff make it even more enjoyable

Nice place, I just had tea and something sweet, I couldn't say much more, the service was fast, the girls were friendly.

Always go in if I am in town love the porridge love the fruit granola and Greek yogurt my fav .wish the portions were bigger greed me . Prices are so reasonable for town .

Excellent breakfast / brunch spot. Recommend the avocado on sourdough, the full English and the bowl of granola. Good coffee and the Biscoff milkshakes got a rave review from the teenagers.

Food and drink were okay not the best coffee as it took ages to arrive, so long that my wife asked if we had already paid at ordering in other words was looking to go elsewhere due to the longevity of the wait. Usually I am the impatient one so it must have been ages waiting . Will try the other numerous coffee shops nearby rather than endureduch a wait again. Sorry 😔

Overall very good, one simple gap stops them getting 5*. Called in for lunch, nice atmosphere inside and friendly service. Drinks were served quickly, food a bit slow but it was Saturday lunchtime and they were close to full. Drinks were great, food mostly tasty however they only offer white sourdough toast, no wholemeal or granary option. Recommended but we wouldn't go back until they offer wholemeal or whatever, so many choices in Chester we'll go somewhere that serves what we like.

If it's warm enough go alfresco. Great spot for people watching. Friendly staff.

Delicious Eggs Mushroom, with 2 huge mushrooms and 2 perfectly poached eggs nestling under a blanket of hollandaise sauce on crispy sourdough bread, and only £8.50. Great service too. Would definitely come back.

We needed an early breakfast before heading home after dropping our daughter off at uni, Cinderbox Coffee opens at 8am even on a Sunday, we ordered 2 large breakfasts and an eggs royal along with coffee and juice, the staff are very friendly and efficient, the food was all cooked to order and the quality was great. Nice relaxed atmosphere and didn't feel at all hurried, we didn't get a chance to try the pastries but will be going back next time we are in Chester

Always been happy with this cafe and we were regulars but today we ordered toasted teacakes and they were burnt black when you turned them over also no butter provided just jam,when we complained to a surly guy behind the counter and he said if you want butter you have to ask,I've never known a toasted teacake without butter,his attitude made it feel as if it was our fault,they have lost my business now and won't be going back

Mediocre and over priced. Had a weird atmosphere like they couldn't wait to get rid of you. Felt like eating on a production line. So many better choices available.

Stopped in for lunch with my sister, had sourdough bread toasted with smashed avacado and 2 poached eggs. Absolutely delicious. Good quality tea. Everything presented with friendliness and care. Will definitely go back as the cakes looked great.

Popped in for a drinks and snacks. Had a warm welcome from the Lady taking the order finishing at 12. Full memu, we had the cinemon twist and in house made sausage roll, both good quality and tasty. Good value and nicely decorated. Would go back and recommend a visit if passing.

The pesto and grilled halloumi open sourdough sandwich was absolutely incredible! There was a lovely atmosphere with music in the background - a perfect lunch.

We went for breakfast at this cafe with another couple, there were plenty of staff around, 3/4 waiting on and 2/3 in the kitchen (which you can see into). The cafe wasn't busy when we arrived (9.30am) but it took 50 minutes for 4 basic breakfasts to arrive ! The one tiny piece of bacon that was on each plate was completely cremated, so much so that you couldn't cut it, I cannot understand how a chef/cook would actually serve it to a customer ! The sourdough toast was also rock hard, as if it had been toasted hours before. One of our party had asked for bacon, egg and mushrooms, the plate arrived with no mushrooms on it, so she said to the waitress about it and she apologised and said she would sort it. We had all finished when she arrived with 1 mushroom !! Extremely disappointed and will not return.

Had French toast with bacon and maple syrup and husband had mushroom and egg with hollandaise sauce. Both beautiful and wonderful coffee.

Great pavement cafe on busy city centre street to sit and watch the world go by. The outdoor tables have chairs you can get comfy on. Service is noticeably faster than the competition next door. There is a good little selection of cake and the pasties are particularly large. The cinnamon twist is a nice twist on the cinnamon swirl. Almond croissant great with coffee.

Have been here before and really enjoyed it - yesterdays visit was also good but not excellent. Food was good - service ok , a bit miserable imo and had no fresh orange juice.

Excellent place for tea, coffee, cake etc! After having been turned away from Oddfellows who said they stopped serving 5 minutes before, we got great service and welcome from Cinderbox Coffee and had a superb tea and cakes! High quality and home made!! Excellent!!

Stopped off here on a whim as it smelt so good when we walked past and boy we were not disappointed. Had sourdough toast with avocado which was lush and my wife had a breakfast which was really good portion for the price. Highly recommend

Lovely little coffee shop. We had drinks and cakes. The cappuccino was lovely, really smooth coffee. The cakes were all really good. I had the bakewell which was particularly tasty. We would call in again, to try a breakfast as they looked really good. I'm pleased we called in.

Dropped in following a walk around the city walls. Very nicely furnished cafe, with lots of custom. Good coffee, and lots of choice for some complimentary home-made cake. Chose carrot cake and a (huge) scone. £12.50 all-in, very reasonable. Pleasant visit indeed.

Despite being 2 degrees and windy outside, the Thai member of staff door stopped the entrance door open with a door wedge, bringing the cold wind in to my table and those sitting on table next to me. When asked why they felt it appropriate...

I found cinderbox in November this is a great friendly place. Brie and cranberry panini was nice. The beef stew was really nice. The coffee is great.

So good we went there twice.. Bacon & Sausage sandwich on Sourdough for £5 and didn’t need to eat for the rest of the day - it was superb. On the first visit my wife had the Porridge and loved it - the second time...

Had breakfast here this morning. I've been before for lunch and had a lovely sandwich, so tried breakfast this time. Couldn't fault, tasty, quality food and a lovely cappuccino. Many places tend to serve cappuccino which is like latte, but this was a proper cappuccino....

Been coming here for years but it has got much worse recently.Staff used to be excellent,not any more.Coffee cup half filled,toast teeth breaking sourdough with no marmalade or jam offered,tables crowded together.Not coming back sadly.

Visited this cafe for first time this morning. Asked staff if they did Breakfast and they said yes. My companion asked if they could wipe the table. It had what looked ike marmalade on it. There was no reply and a young woman slowly walked...

My wife and I stopped at nearby Grosvenor Place Guest House and had our breakfast supplied by Cinderbox Cafe. We cannot fault it. It is first class food and will recommend it to everyone.

Very simply if you want a venue that serves locally sourced ingredients cooked perfectly and with the bonus of a smile, then Cinderbox is the place to visit. Connor and his team are attentive and so friendly and the quality of food on the plate...

Three of us stopped on our way through Chester at this wonderful little coffee place. A really good variety of fresh baked goods and bagels and painis and service was fab. Would definitely recommend.

This place looked nice so sat outside and had the salmon bagel and coffee. The food was lovely and the coffee delicious and service very prompt. The prices were good too so will come again next time I am in Chester.
