Visited recently. Nice little cafe which seems popular. Coffee is average though served in very small cups. Poor value for the price charged. I asked for a larger cup! My question is why does it take so long to warm up a scone?! Must have waited for about 20 minutes with no apology. Partner was not given his cake either until asked. When both arrived coffees were cold. Partner did receive another espresso when asked though!

Had the poached eggs on sourdough with a side order of house beans, which were in a delicious thick and creamy sauce, complementing the breakfast perfectly. Nice coffee and friendly vibe. Will come again on next visit.

Something of a hidden gem on Whiteladies road, this independent place surprised us with its excellent lattes and inventive breakfast menu. The tarragon mushrooms with plum sauce, pumpkin toasted seeds and Brie was served with a mountain of fresh rocket salad on sourdough. Exquisite flavours, no pretension. Highly recommended. Ate most before I thought of taking a photo !!

They describe themselves as a speciality coffee place, but on the basis of our flat whites, they are nothing of the sort. Extremely weak, to the point that coffee flavours were hardly detectable. The barista lacked basic skills. A bit of a waste of money, really.

I have only been a few times since a management change and the coffee is bad. The house blend Highground was delicious, the recent cappucinos have been so hot that you can't taste coffee just heat, the barristas are not up to scratch , the price has gone up, it's a shame as this used to be an excellent neighbourhood cafe. Staff were friendly and efficient.

Dropped in to get a take away latte, big mistake, asked what alternatives they had to cows milk, oat & almond, they make the almond milk themselves & was an extra 80p, ok, tbf some coffee shops charge extra for plant based, well as a trained barista I was surprised that my latte was served in a flat white cup ~ so SMALL, didn't start drinking it until I had left, shame really cus it wasn't very warm, there was FAR too much froth for a latte & it was REALLY bitter but REALLY sweet at the same time ~ hideous, met up with my coffee loving son~in~law, offered it to him, he screwed up his face, thought there was hazlenut syrup in it & couldn't drink it as it was sooooooo bitter ~ £3.70 for a very small undrinkable coffee !! The staff were odd, the barista looked like she had lost the will to live, the girl who served me rushed through, I had intended to buy a snack. but didn't really have the opportunity to look at the cakes & she didn't ask if I wanted anything else so poor upselling, after she served me she stood holding on the worktop with her back to the shop doing a weird kind of dancy, wiggling ass thing, I think she thought she was cool, frankly the coffee was unfortunatley cooler

We were staying in Bristol overnight for a university visit and Tradewinds was recommended for breakfast by our Airbnb host. The coffee was some of the best we have had. My porridge was delicious, creamy comforting. Husband had eggs on sourdough and, whilst the portion may have been a little small, he said it was very tasty. All in all a good experience, I'm sure we will be back.

Another exceptional cafe in Clifton, just on Whiteladies Rd. Tradewind Espesso is a super warm place with nice deco. We ordered a few food and coffee that day, including this Egg Royale and the scone! The food were super fresh and yummy, especially the Egg Royale with the sauce. The scone was in a dense texture with cheesy taste. Coffee were super nice in choco taste with nice aroma and aftertaste.

I had high hopes for this place, looking at their instagram. The price for three drinks and three cakes was £21+£2 delivery, ordered for an outdoor work meeting. The brownie was plain and dry, the crumble cake was okay but stodgy, and the third cake was literally the size of a golf ball and dry. The drinks were very small, and the coffee was overroasted and bitter. The black tea with a dash of milk was cold on arrival and basically half milk. Really not happy - I mean I'm writing a tripadvisor review - that's how unhappy I am...

A fairly compact coffee shop on the popular Whiteladies Road, we were only popping in for a quick snack but it appears that more substantial offerings are available with the friendly waitress offering us a menu. The cake selection was rather limited and certainly unusual – if you’re after a Victoria Sponge or a Millionaire’s Shortbread then you’re going to be out of luck. I went for a Lemon & Thyme Polenta cake which certainly wouldn’t have been my usual choice but it was actually pretty good. A decent balance of lemon and thyme, suitably sweet and with only a slightly gritty texture being due to the polenta perhaps, but this didn’t detract from it in anyway. My only criticism would be the portion size, which seemed a little on the small size. Across the table a Cranberry Crumble was also well received, and this was a much more generous portion. Personally I felt that a little more sweetness might have helped to counteract the tartness of the cranberries, but that is just personal preference I’m sure. A latte was again somewhat on the small side, and served in one of those annoying handleless glasses, meaning that one has to be quite careful picking it up not to burn your fingers. A Bristol Breakfast Tea was pretty good though, and again a more generous portion complete with a small jug of milk that was enough to make two or three cups. Overall, I though this had a pleasant, relaxed vibe, friendly staff and decent food, but the limited choice and small portion sizes, especially given the price (£11.85 for two drinks and two cakes) mean that it’s probably not somewhere I’ll make a point of rushing back to.

We have been coming to this cafe since it opened and the food has always been great. It is now more pricey and the service has gone severely down hill. Previously you came in and sat down and with seconds you would be presented with a menu and bottle of water. Now it is hard to get any service at all and staff don't really seem to care about providing a good and welcoming experience to the visit. This seems to be the way with a lot of places after they open and it is a shame that Tradewinds have followed suit. I probably will be back, the great service used to be one of the cafés selling points, now it is a matter of gritting teeth until the food comes.

I have been to Tradewind many, many times since it opened, I always said it is was the best coffee and brunch in Bristol. Sadly, the two ‘full easterly’ breakfasts we had this Saturday morning were of poor quality (compared to what it used to be) and the flat white I had just tasted of warm milk. My partner’s Americano was tiny. Having just checked the receipt I see they charged £10.50 each for the breakfasts when it clearly said £10 on the menu. Not impressed and won’t be returning, which is a real shame given how great it once was. I appreciate that good staff are hard to retain in this industry but if you are charging premium prices, you need to offer a premium product.

It's my local coffee shop and I eat here at least twice a week. Consistently good cooking of brunches, coffee and cakes. I nearly always have a cappucino and a blackberry friand, both delicious! For brunch they do great poached eggs on sourdough with an extra side of bacon and fresh smoothies.

These guys are great, and really know their coffee. It's unsurprising that they supply some other coffee shops around Bristol, but do go direct to the source!

Went for coffee and café with friends. Were told there would be waitress service to take order. After long wait, wondered if we'd misheard so approached counter. Told to sit down but still had to wait longer. Drinks for some of the party arrived. V small coffees and not v hot. Drinks almost finished before cakes arrived. Had to remind them about a missing coffee. Shame because cakes were great and food other people were having looked lovely. Just checked the prices for food online and it looks expensive. The place has potential with sharper service and keener pricing.

Been here twice - coffee is always great. Wasn't hugely impressed with the food the first time but it was great on my most recent visit - maybe they were having an off day the first time or maybe they've upped their game. The place is pretty dinky and usually very busy - if you're unlucky you'll end up perched on an uncomfortable stool. I'll definitely give it a go again.

I love this little place. Great coffee, interesting menu & earthy decor. The only thing missing is sincere service. Twice now I've been totally ignored. Those customers who dare approach the counter get asked if they are having takeaway? If the answer is 'no', then you are told to sit down and they will come over. I pointed to a cake & asked what it was, only to be told they were listed in the menu if I sat down I would find out!

We popped into Tradewind Espresso after a cold and windswept dog walk across The Downs. We were made so welcome and even our dog was allowed in and a swift bowl of water provided for her whilst we chose our refreshments!

There are lots of trendy coffee places but this is way above many of the others. The tables are well laid out, the decor is cool but its the coffee and the food that make this. We came for coffee and cakes and had two excellent capuccinos, then decided to have the sausage and black pudding roll and the cheese scone. Both were excellent the sausage roll had real taste and texture and was wonderfully aromatic. The Cheese scone ( its a shame to describe like this) was wonderfully rich with spinach and hint of pepper. I couldnt get my partner to share even a morsel...it was that good.

Whilst the decor created a pleasant atmosphere it is not an excuse to overcharge customer and to provide rude service. 2.70 for a latte served in a glass that was too hot to hold was not a good experience. We will not be back

We were in Bristol, awake and looking for somewhere for breakfast at 9.30, so not early, but tricky to find somewhere good that didn't open at 10am. There was a free table, and it looked interesting. A long high table with chairs around for sharing or big group, and two' s and four's elsewhere.

We 'popped in' for coffee. Our visit served its purpose but I suspect I will not return unless someone else asks me to meet them at Tradewind.

Beautifully presented and delicious French Toast, served with poached pears, real honeycomb and edible flowers. Lovely chai latte but a bit pricey for such a tiny little glass. Service was very friendly. Nice little treat now and again, definitely will be back.

Came in for breakfast and we were not disappointed!! Fantastic coffee with perfectly foamed milk, so good we had another straight away. I ordered the big breakfast for £9.50 and it was amazing!! Huge pot of delicious smokey home made baked beans, 4 slices of bacon and everything else. It was delicious and huge! Loved the different seating areas and the atmosphere.

I've been to Tradewind several times for their exceptional coffee, including the decaf, and always have cake for a treat. This time I thought I'd try to french toast with grilled pears and mascarpone and assummed at the high price of 8.50 that the plate would be a good size, which it disappointantly, was not. Quite a small piece of bread with two or three slices ofthe pear. Sorry, I know it takes time to cook the thing and do the pears etc, but with these basic ingredients and the time it take to throw together does not justify hiking the price so high. Other choices on the menu are also hiked in price. Unfortunately, these nice little places are becoming too close to London prices. Perhaps in their efforts to cover high Bristol rent costs.

I visited here for the first time to try and order a gluten free take away as a friend recommended it to me. The lady making coffee barely acknowledged me when I spoke to her and made no eye contact. The other lady working on the shop floor was clearly having a bad day and made me feel like I was in her way several times. So after being handed a menu and then made to feel in the way again as someone was paying and she didn't want to reach across, I decided to leave without ordering. Shame as a friend had told me the coffee and food is good at this venue. Shame about the reception I received.

Good to see that this business has bedded in well on the Whiteladies strip. Saturday midday and this place was buzzing with a good mix of customers. Only dropped in for a coffee and cake and the only seating was out the back in the open air which was perfect. Good coffee and ordered the peach and lavender cake which came with a small portion of thick yoghurt. It was a wonderful combination and well recommended.

I've been loads of time and also buy beans from there. Consistently good. Usually have a long black or a double espresso. They always get a great extraction from their beans which means that the coffee has great flavour without being bitter.

I went with my young son and wife during the run up to Christmas where I had booked a week off work to get my Christmas shopping done. It was a good day out overall, but sadly my attempt at some respite in this Costa was thwarted by one abhorrently rude member of staff. It started when I ordered our drinks at the till. Mine and my wife's drinks were fine, but when I asked about the free 'babycchino' for my son, the woman on the till- Anna- told me they had run out of the small cups for the kids drinks and that they'd have to charge us for a whole regular size cup of milk if we wanted one! After stating the obvious that Anna could simply put a small amount of milk in a regular cup, she huffed, poured out the drinks and abruptly handed me the tray. When we sat down, the tables were messy and sticky. Granted it was busy and the run up to Christmas, but basic hygiene is not a duty that should be shirked. After finishing I needed to use the restroom, so I went to the right of the tills and queued for use of the loo. When I got in there I could hardly breathe. The smell was awful. I went straight out to the tills and spoke to Anna again to tell her that the their toilets needed attention. I got the same huffy attitude from Anna who told me that they were nothing to do with her as the toilets were managed by Primark. She didn't even contact her Primark colleagues or a manager to let them know that someone had smeared excrement on the floor in there. Truly a shocking experience.

I ordered a takeaway coffee and phoned friends to change cafe .Photo is of the large cappuccino! Half a cup of cold coffee. Don't bother going here lots more lovely coffee shops close by.

Branch in the Royal West of England Art Gallery, Queen’s Road, Bristol. Summer infusion teas were totally stunning and, unlike most cafes, had no sugar or syrup in them. Peach/Berry was superb and the Earl Grey (tho obviously a bit sour due to its nature) was also v good. (1 other flavour I didn’t try). Staff exceptionally friendly & helpful. Lovely venue (inside the Gallery building) with metal seats (I think it was) & small tables outside. NOTE a year’s Pass is currently £16 to visit exhibitions as much as 1 wants, so only about £5 or less each time.
