This is one of our favourite places to eat, whether its breakfast or dinner, the food is served fresh and hot. The owner is a lovely bloke, and nothing is too much trouble for him. How anyone could leave a bad review is beyond me. We are off there today for our dinner, we mostly go for breakfast every other week but having a change today. We live 16 miles away so not local.

Everything you could expect from a cafe with this name, only so much better. I think that Bangers and Mash is a good measure of a cafe. This was really cheap at less than £6 but was really good. Tasty gravy, a huge pile of garden peas and another pile of well cooked onions. The sausages were fine, and very good for the price. I am now stuffed and very happy!

Good choice on the menu. Something for everyone. Very reasonable prices. Good old fashioned friendly service. We had tuna panini which came with lovely fresh salad, coleslaw and crips. Often walked past when shopping and always seems busy. Would have preferred a pot of tea instead of mug to get strength right. Also we had to wipe table down ourselves.. Would recommend and we’ll definitely be returning..

The Town Best cafe is ideally situated in the attractive Market Place. It’s clearly a very popular place and you can see why. The menu is extensive and includes a large range of hot and cold meals as well as the ubiquitous all day breakfasts, rolls etc. We just had a couple of bacon and egg rolls with mugs of tea and they hit the spot perfectly. Service was lovely and the prices are most reasonable.

The “Mega Breakfast” cost £6.70. The service was quick and very clean. The brew was lovely and right to my taste and was placed on my table super speedy. No faults, although not refillable. The breakfast arrived a short while after and was pleasing on the eye but there were a few things which I noticed. Sausage - a single in a “Mega Breakfast” is a bit disappointing and had been pre-sliced prior to cooking. This did not take anything ways from the taste and my only complaint is not having two. Bacon - lovely. Cooked well, thick and enough of it! Egg. Only one, and looked like a McMuffin egg, but it was soft and very tasty - much nice than a McMuffin egg. Hash Browns - Two. Crispy and very nice and really helped this breakfast. Beans - more than enough. Mushrooms - I rarely say “too much”. But there was. Nice enough, but only so much mushroom I could eat on my own. Toast - yep, no complaints. Overall - 6/10. A decent enough price, but the name is disappointing. Nothing “mega” about the breakfast, but would be happy with that as a standard breakfast. Missing a few extras for the title “mega”. Would go back. Clean, easy and affordable. Breakfast Man.

No pretension; it's just a lovely, cafe. Sure, we will all have visited "posher" cafes in our time, but this one provides you with a warm welcome to regulars and new visitors alike. The food on its traditional British menu, is delicious and served in quick time, with the kitchen in full view. The staff work hard and make an effort to talk to their customers. Yes, actually talk, which I recognise might not be to everyone's liking, but for some elderly folk in town, it might just be their cup of tea! The liver, bacon, mash, egg and onions are my guilty pleasure! Go, you'll enjoy it!

Whenever we visit Retford we usually call in here for dinner. You get a good meal at a reasonable price and there's plenty of choice. The staff are friendly and the manageress is especially chatty. This is not fine dining but your average cafe. It's clean and spacious serving your usual traditional meals. It really is worth a visit. I'm lead to believe it turns into a pizza place in the evening.

A really good cafe serving good food. This cafe is clean, the staff are friendly and the food is really good so what more can you ask for. My hubby had gammon chips peas and mushrooms and he was really impressed and he is not impressed very easily. I had steak pie, mash and veg and I had to leave half of the meat as there was far too much. The meals were very tasty and red hot. This is not a posh cafe and it doesn't look much from outside but it serves really good food at a reasonable price and served with a smile.

Stopped here for a break on the way home from Yorkshire and nicely surprised not just with the cafe but the place itself. It has a lovely friendly atmosphere and is obviously a popular cafe.

Only went due to comments on trip advisor. Really wished I hadn't. Staff were welcoming and friendly but the downfall was the mug of tea. It was served as hot watery milk. I asked if I could have a stronger drink and was told with some amusement there was a teabag at the bottom. I had an egg and bacon roll. Bacon ok, egg over cooked.

We saw tempting meals on the menu and decided on bacon rolls and fish and chips. We will certainly stop there again and maybe try the home made soup, cottage pie, steak pie, chilli or chicken curry. My Wife and I are regular customers of this fantastic establishment, it’s that good, we travel 17miles round trip just to eat there, it’s always, clean, comfortable, the staff are friendly, efficient and nothing is too much trouble, a special mention for Ruby, no matter how busy she is or how unwell she feels she always greets you with a smile and asks how you are, professional and a credit to her employer, thank you all for always being the best in Retford 😉

Not a bad atmosphere as you walk through the door, although it took a few minutes for them to realise I was there, luckily the TV was on current affairs. Some tables still had dirty plates on them. Ordered a large sandwich and was asked if I wanted extras on, (egg was mentioned but I didn't get any). The sandwich was well worth the money (£4.60) as it was really full. Negatives were: bread was soggy but this was due to everything inside, eg coleslaw, salad cream etc. This also meant the sandwich fell to bits so I had to eat it with fork. They used clingfilm instead of foil/paper to wrap, this added to the mess when it was unwrapped. Big one for me was the lady DID NOT use gloves, I mentioned this and she said that she had just washed her hands, the clothes she was wearing were really dirty which did not fill me with joy. Overall the sandwich filled me up, the staff was kind and helpful but I won't return as I prefer cleanliness above all else.

This pub is a tale of two halves. The decoration & ambiance of the pub is lovely, loos are clean and ample parking. The pub was wonderfully dog friendly & the lady behind the bar & taking food orders was wonderful, friendly and vey helpful, the drinks were great and amazingly cheap.....However..... I'm afraid the whole evening was ruined by the food. I ordered the Fillet steak, medium rare @ £25.00 (not expensive), I asked for side salad instead of onion rings, mushrooms & toms. No sauce. What arrived was a very small sirloin (poss rump) steak, 1/2 " thick with a good 1" of unrendered fat down one side and over cooked. Plus a side of pepper sauce I never ordered. I questioned if the order had been taken down wrong or misread but I was assured that the Chef says The steak is definitely fillet! & the sauce is complimentary!..... I am not a butcher but I do know what a Fillet cut looks like !!! This was NOT. I was on a date with my partner so didn't want to complain, or embarrass him, but I feel bad that I allowed him to pay for something I definitely didn't have! I ate the meal which was edible but not what it was meant to be. The couple on the table behind us had a lengthily argument with the chef about his steak, sent one back & refused to pay for the second!! I don't mind if things aren't available or the kitchen is short staffed. I don't care of orders are taken or read wrongly BUT to be LIED to is unforgiveable. If I was there on my own I would not have accepted my meal. That said, my boyfriend's Faggots were lovely.......In short, A lovely pub for a cheap drink.......just don't have high expectations of the food.
