I was expecting better.... Jazz club and music upstairs is quite commercial, wouldn't recommend it for jazz fans. But worth, the food (in the restaurant) was so salty none of us could finish their dishes! I did mention it and got a "oh, sorry for that, I'll tell the chef"... We were then all surprised to see the final bill and the added £7 cover charge for the music a couple of guys played during dinner! Of course never mentioned explicitly anywhere!

Three floors as I climbed up to the third. I was a little confused and intrigued. But the main performance would bypass the beautiful time period restaurant on the 1st floor...and similarly the 2nd. However, a quaint location on top with a stage and a small bar in the opposite direction. Wooden beams, roof ceiling... a time long ago. The lighting could have been more effectively used. However...this location needs to be given a try. Either you love it or you don't 🙂

Really impressed at how quickly they managed to served us duck burger and poulet knowing we had a very quick turn-around. Good food and service and I would recommend this restaurant to anyone visiting the nearby playhouse. I had the pleasure of dining at this charming establishment, the atmosphere was delightful and the staff made me feel incredibly welcome, and their attentiveness was impeccable. To my surprise, I was even treated to a complimentary glass of wine, which tasted so good. As someone who has been enjoying escargots since childhood, I couldn't resist ordering them. While I found them a tad salty and rich with parsley, it's purely a matter of personal preference. The other dishes I sampled were superb; however, I must admit, the portion size of the cheesecake left something to be desired especially with an abundance of fruit topping somewhat overshadowed its true flavor. Despite this minor hiccup, my love for French cuisine was reaffirmed by the wonderful experience I had at this restaurant. I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a taste of France right in Kennington and Elephant and Castle neighbourhood.

We booked the late sitting at the piano bar for valentine's day, at 8:45. This had a set menu. Be weary of events here with set menus - I will one day go back and try their normal dining service if I can convince my partner, as I'm sure it's better than this. The set menu consisted of a Crab and Lobster tartlet, braised beef cheek and a raspberry and white chocolate cheesecake. The total per head to be sat at the piano bar was £65 (£130 total). The normal seating not at the piano bar was £55, making the piano performance technically £10 per head. The starters were nice, and I ordered a vodka martini which was really great. My partner enjoyed his Old Fashioned. We were sat at 8:45. The pianist was on a break and did not play 9, and he sat on his phone until then - absolutely nothing wrong with taking a break but not exactly a vibe when guests are all bring seated. Our starters came.ojt within minutes,.so we had them without any piano music playing. Things went a bit downhill at the mains. They also came out very fast - it had been about 20 minutes since we were seated, and only a few minutes since our starters were taken. The mashed potato side was cold in the middle, and the beef was piping hot. The turnaround time of these dishes heavily implies that they are being microwaved. Not unusual for a set menu, but for the price, considerably disappointing. Beef cheek is a cheap cut of meat, chefs are expected to QC and remove large areas of fat and trim it before stewing. A large portion of my beef was a big chunk of gristle and fat. I brought this to the attention of the staff and manager. They were understanding, and offered me something else. I declined - and was excited for dessert. Dessert arrived within minutes again. It had been 45 minutes since we were sat. The pianist had now stopped playing at around 9:30. The cheesecake was in fact a mousse that had been defrosted - it had a vegetable fat in it and really was vile. Both my partner and I sent these back and just asked for the bill. We wanted to go - there was no piano, the food had been bad and having come from a Michelin lunch that cost just £10 more per head, we were really surprised. The manager compensated us for our experience to an amount I considered fair. I cannot fault the floor staff for their politeness and their service. However, charging the amount per head for the food that was served that lacked effort and quality, and am extra £10 for a piano bar with a very short performance, AND for an extremely rushed service (we would have been in and out in 30 minutes if we hadn't kept food on our plates I'm an effort to slow down the staff) leaves this at three stars. This was a dinner on my fiance's 30th and it would have been two if it weren't for the lovely waitresses and for their understanding approach to our issues. However compensation cannot take back the fact that this was for my partner's 30th birthday as well as valentine's- disappointing.

Terrible pre New Year dinner. The waiter started serving the starter course before our bums hit the seats no drinks order was offered. We wanted an apertivo before starting but the waitress had no idea what that was. She started serving wine before the apertivos eventually arrived. We had no wine with the fish course, and had to help our selves to red wine from the waiters station with the main course. The starters were good. The 'fish course' was a mess the fillet of sole looked like it had been scraped together from leftovers with a boiled cabbage leaf and was cold and there was a 15 min wait for the diners who were having the fish alternative which was far to large for an intermediate course. The main course , duck a'orange arrived 45 mins after the intermediate and comprised of two pieces of duck with a this sploge of sweet potato , service was so slow we had to get the waiters to bag up the desert otherwise we would have missed the fireworks. Its a shame we have been to this restaurant dozens of times and had food delivered during covid and its usually amazing but last night was ruined by poor service and chefs who obviously did not care. I didn't even want to argue for money of the bill I just wanted out of the place.

My mother took us (myself, my husband, and a close friend , to TL as a surprise and we had a truly lovely time. This cozy French restaurant has great service and good food. The live piano music we could hear coming from the jazz bar upstairs added to the ambience. The private dining room we were in was intimate and comfortable and didn't feel too cut off from the rest of the place. The service was attentive but subtle, so none of that " is everything ok " every 5 minutes. Classic Parisian Bistro dishes, well cooked, so no complaints. They also served a perfect rare steak - which was good, as some/many places chicken out of serving anything even slightly pink, so Bravo there. I drive down past this place quite often and thought "ooh a Jazz bar/French restaurant" interesting combination. Went for an anniversary dinner. Very welcoming host, sat upstairs in the piano room. Unfortunately the pianist was not who was advertised (was a man and not a lady and the songs were film covers (james bond, star wars theme? pretty odd) anyways this did not bother us much. Onto the food. We ordered the charcuterie board (decent) I went for the rib eye steak and my mrs went for the Sea Bream with celeriac mash. The fish was nice, my steak was served well done though. I did not want to send it back as I did not want to ruin the mood but pretty big mistake to make honestly. The peppercorn sauce was way too salty. The truffle pont-de-neuf style chips were lovely though. We had the Coteaux du Layon Saint Aubin sweet wine and it was amazing. Usually i would have the Sauternes but honestly i prefer this wine and it was around £10 cheaper. All in all it was a mediocre experience for me. I would say La Poule au Pot in Pimlico is miles ahead food-wise. I still would like to go to a Jazz night event though one of these days.

***edit*** We went back tonight and it is cost that the bad experience below was a mere blip. All tonight was fantastic and many thanks to Nolan and Team for recognising the issues and rectifying them quickly. Welcome back to our local favourites list! ***precious outdated review*** I don’t leave negative reviews lightly for independent local businesses, but this place really let me down tonight. We have eaten here dozens of times, and I used to class it as a real local gem - in fact I brought my extended family here on Christmas Day and spent over £1,000 in the restaurant, so I know this place well. However, tonight we felt embarrassed to have recommended it to friends. The front of house team were maybe overstretched, but the service has hugely gone down hill. No warmth, hospitality, or sense of service. We were constantly left feeling we weren’t looked after and it impacted our evening at every touch point. Some examples: -We were left without menus for 10 minutes when we were seated. There was no sense of urgency thereafter to make up for the mistake. - nobody checked if we wanted drinks when glasses were empty - when we did ask for a second bottle of wine (after waiting for the server to acknowledge us) we waited far too long for it to be delivered, because he was playing with the iPad system to put it through (he easily could have done after serving us) - after the live music ended the server disappeared and the dining room got very cold and the room filled with the smell of cigarette smoke (It later transpired the door to a terrace had been opened and I presume the waiter was out there smoking) - we had to flag down a different server from downstairs to ask for the bill and when we asked to reduce the service charge from £26 (table of 4) to £10 in view of the various issues, it took 10 minutes to get a revised bill - we expressed our dissatisfaction at having to wait even longer and we were dismissed (apparently the new integrated billing system couldn’t be overwritten at the table so we had to be further inconvenienced). - finally, we noticed on the bill that they add the service charge to the £7 performance fee now, not only to the food and drink, which makes absolutely no sense and inflates what is already a generous service charge percentage. Please bring back some of the old front of house team, or at least some of the warmth that used to make this a home from home for us.

Used to be my favorite French restaurant in the past, but the standard went down over the past year: 1) Tried a starter from their special menu (wood pigeon). Simply not interesting. 2) The mains (steak tartare and sea bream) were good 3) For dessert ordered a large cheese plate (advertised as 8 cheeses). What came out was a double portion of their small (4 cheese) plate. The four cheeses were presented as “a French blue cheese, Camembert, some goat cheese, and Comté”. Of course none of those cheese were interesting at all, you can probably get a better pre-arranged cheese platter in a Tesco. Overall, Toulouse Lautrec was a place where I used to celebrate many occasions in the past, but I will now look take my business somewhere else.

We really enjoyed every single dish! Especially beef Wellington. House red wine was lovely as well. Casserole Croute restaurant is cozy, it reminds so many places in France! We will definitely be back and recommend to friends!

Food was lovely but service was so disappointing I wouldn’t eat here again. We ordered a selection of plates that were whisked away as soon as they looked vaguely finished (they weren’t), we had only just ordered dessert (having asked three times for the menu- generally the waiters were very inattentive and it was hard to get service) when we were told the restaurant closing. We had only been there for about 1hr 15 minutes by this point and weren’t given our table until 8.35pm despite booking for 8.15pm (which was earlier time for evening sitting). We told the waiter we needed to have dessert but then were told three times (whilst eating it) we needed to go and were given the bill before we’d received dessert which I’ve never experienced before. As soon as we had paid I felt like we were just being hassled out, particularly by one large bald guy who resembled a bouncer. Despite spending over £100 on a couple of bottles of wine we had plastic pint glasses planted on our table and when I went to toilet I returned to the table to find my wine glass was gone and wine decanted into plastic. This totally spoilt the enjoyment of almost a full glass of a nice wine, which I ended up leaving. The final straw was the bouncer guy coming over and telling me us rudely they were closed and we “needed to leave”. It wasn’t even 10.30pm and still felt early - plus other customers were still there. We felt like we were pushed out and it completely soured the evening which was a birthday celebration - and felt a bitter end. Bora Bistro I had high expectations - and you failed miserably.

This place is a hidden gem It’s in the castle centre at the elephant & castle All food is freshly cooked and you can even tell them what sort of things you like to eat and you will be served with an amazing meal of everything you like, You can get lovely sandwiches, rolls or other types of tasty bread filled with your choice of food. They do lovely smoothies in lots of healthy ingredients. The Sevice is top class, and all so very clean The prices are just right in fact better then other coffee shops near. You must give this place a go , just pop in and look at the lovely display and menu and you won’t want to eat or drink anywhere else round the elephant and castle 6 of us had a Moroccan meal today and it was so nice and will be back very soon .

The Galettes are absolutely fantastic, as are the wines and coffee. A great place to relax and have a chat with the owner. Absolutely spot on in every way!
