The food was generally very good although I was disappointed by the desert. The atmosphere is nice and cozy. Definitely on the pricier side but I would say the food deserves the price tag. However in the context of that price, while the service is fine, the 15% service charge left a bit of a sour taste at the end of the meal.

Lovely atmosphere and love the old school feeling and having to call and make a booking etc. As the menu changes I suppose it really depends on when you go how happy you will be. We weren’t overly impressed with tonights selection but have friends who have gone and had the beef wellington and said that it was to die for. So I think it can be hit and miss due to the menu selection

Good overall experience and great service. The issue was the lack of options left on the menu. Little surprised as we arrived at 8:15 to find even on the tiny menu things had run out. Would recommend getting there earlier in the evening. Cassoulet was excellent. Cheese selection was OK, was hoping for ripe gooey cheese but not the case. Would I go again, definitely but I would go earlier.

The venue is lovely and the atmosphere wonderful. Wanted to come here for years. There were three of us. All loved our starters. Two of the mains (monkfish and bavette steak) were great. Duck cassoulet was poor. Very tough to the extent that I gave up trying to remove the meat from the bone. Desserts were brilliant. Overall I'd say that the vibe is good but the sister restaurant, Pique Nique, does better food.

Visited on a Tuesday and had an early evening meal. First impressions were good - felt like an authentic French eatery with the battered bar for people who just want a glass of red or espresso. We got a snug table near the street from where we could see the famous black board. Chose Fish soup for a starter which was excellent - packed full of flavour - not too heavy but equally no mistaking the garlic, pepper and stock. The main course was disappointing in comparison though - another fish dish but it wasn't quite hot (or tasty) enough to justify the price tag. I believe that if it were to take itself a bit more seriously, and do away with some of the indifference (not a bad thing per se but feels like it's getting in the way of a really great customer experience here) Casse Croute could be a 5 out of 5. But at the moment, it's a 4 for food and a 4 for service. Shame, because it feels like a really good restaurant is trying to break out from behind that long wooden counter.

Evening with friends, they took me to this wonderful restaurant (thanks guys!). Everything was really excellent, from the marinated fish starter to the meat (entrecôte) served with potatoes in a small pan - amazing!! For dessert, roasted apricots with sablé biscuit and white cheese jelly on top... all incredibly good and we split it because we were really full as the portions are generous. Things to know: the place is small so book in advance, the portions are reasonable, the food is excellent and the price is right (I spent just over £50). The excellent Sébastien who served us is half French... and half from Biella (!) in case you feel like speaking in Italian!

Came here for a friend's birthday dinner as she is a fan of French cuisine. It was on my list for a while as I had heard how good their food was supposed to be and also knew that it's hard to book a table so I advised my friends to book early. We managed to get a table outside for 6pm on a Saturday and thankfully it was really good weather too. The service was fantastic although they are extremely short staffed. They maintained their professionalism throughout the evening, even making jokes with us and making sure we knew what was on the menu and explained very clearly what each menu item meant in French. We decided to go with a garlic yoghurt dip with bread and then a ham and cheese puff pastry as starters and they were both fantastic. The dip was refreshing and savoury and the bread was grilled to perfection, super crunchy. I loved the puff pastry too which was flaky and the cheese was so rich. For mains, we went for the onglet with gratin and the sea bass to share. The onglet was really tender and flavourful and the potato gratin was so yummy. Sea bass on the other hand was rather average. My friend made a special request with the restaurant and they very nicely put a candle on top of some almond butter financiers and they were delicious. Overall, it's an absolutely fantastic experience with very good food. I will definitely come back again to try the beef wellington next time (it wasn't stated on the menu so we had assumed that they weren't selling for the day).

@cassecroute We find themselves on an increasingly chilly street awaiting the opening of what looks like an Ur-bistro. Frencher than French and redolent with promise. Recommended by well established gourmand @johnaustin8554 we stand at the doorway -it's 6pm . We've fasted like Sunak, since brunch. Taking a good appetite to a restaurant is just good manners. We ordered stuffed eggs in a creamy cheese unction, like fondue. Warming, full of flavour and texture and, I think, real food love. A plate of rough country pate is a perfect foil. Then the coup de grace the slow cooked shoulder of pork served on base of Jerusalem artichoke mash and greens. To share. The traditional pleasure of a hogroast multiplied by French gastronomy. Good eating. Some wine + deserts and a modest "addition'". This is the meal that Bouchon Racine promised but could not serve. Vaut le detour.

Want to have a genuine French food experience? Head to Casse Croute like we did. That too on a cold cold day. The tiny bistro not only squeezes you in from the cold, it transforms your dining experience into a French one as if transported to the land of Gauls. We shared starters of ravioli plump with crab filling swathed generously in a velvety smooth rich bisque all pretty with wilted spinach leaves peeking out around the large bowl. Equally if not more delcious was a decadent slab of foie gras partnered with a tangy apple-sultana chutney with what tasted like buttery brioche slices. Heavenly! Our mains of roasted Guinea fowl on a bed of shallots mushrooms, rich gravy under which peeked our buttery mashed potatoes, seared trout, covered in red wine jus, on a bed of cauliflower rice/crumbs tossed with herbs and roasted hazelnuts and fresh parsley and steamed florets of cauliflower and a cheesy béchamel, a medium rare filet steak with traditional sides and a delicious satisfying mushroom soup. All washed down with a nostalgic Dubonnet, Kir Royale and a house red. With eyes bigger than our stomachs, the ever attentive and friendly Cyril our Maitre d’/Manager proffered dessert so we ordered an Ille Flotante - floating island - to share. Glad we did share as like all their offerings this was a generous sized light island of white in a sea of cream just kissed with a hint of nutmeg and sweetness. Aah. Our walk back home was in good cheer with taste buds still singing. Merci beaucoup Cyril and Casse Croute.❣️

Cosy, delicious food, authentic service (although 15% service charge is very high), lovely atmosphere, we sat at the counter.

A small restaurant that punches above its weight. Good menu and very helpful and friendly service. A great place to eat.

I have been many times and the experience can be mixed bag. The fantastic, classic French cuisine and an good selection of wines set a delightful tone. The cozy ambiance added to the overall charm. However, our recent encounter with a server was disappointing. Their rude demeanor, apparent frustration, and lack of knowledge, especially when the restaurant got busier, overshadowed the otherwise excellent dining experience. Unfortunately, even the delightful food couldn't compensate for the poor service attitude during our last visit.

Food was lovely but service was so disappointing I wouldn’t eat here again. We ordered a selection of plates that were whisked away as soon as they looked vaguely finished (they weren’t), we had only just ordered dessert (having asked three times for the menu- generally the waiters were very inattentive and it was hard to get service) when we were told the restaurant closing. We had only been there for about 1hr 15 minutes by this point and weren’t given our table until 8.35pm despite booking for 8.15pm (which was earlier time for evening sitting). We told the waiter we needed to have dessert but then were told three times (whilst eating it) we needed to go and were given the bill before we’d received dessert which I’ve never experienced before. As soon as we had paid I felt like we were just being hassled out, particularly by one large bald guy who resembled a bouncer. Despite spending over £100 on a couple of bottles of wine we had plastic pint glasses planted on our table and when I went to toilet I returned to the table to find my wine glass was gone and wine decanted into plastic. This totally spoilt the enjoyment of almost a full glass of a nice wine, which I ended up leaving. The final straw was the bouncer guy coming over and telling me us rudely they were closed and we “needed to leave”. It wasn’t even 10.30pm and still felt early - plus other customers were still there. We felt like we were pushed out and it completely soured the evening which was a birthday celebration - and felt a bitter end. Bora Bistro I had high expectations - and you failed miserably.

This place is a hidden gem It’s in the castle centre at the elephant & castle All food is freshly cooked and you can even tell them what sort of things you like to eat and you will be served with an amazing meal of everything you like, You can get lovely sandwiches, rolls or other types of tasty bread filled with your choice of food. They do lovely smoothies in lots of healthy ingredients. The Sevice is top class, and all so very clean The prices are just right in fact better then other coffee shops near. You must give this place a go , just pop in and look at the lovely display and menu and you won’t want to eat or drink anywhere else round the elephant and castle 6 of us had a Moroccan meal today and it was so nice and will be back very soon .

The Galettes are absolutely fantastic, as are the wines and coffee. A great place to relax and have a chat with the owner. Absolutely spot on in every way!
