They have the best almond croissant in London 🤤

We tried almond croissant, quiche Lorraine, Ceaser Sandwich, Pistachio cookies and various types of lattes. Everything was delicious and well served. Great ambience

I’ve been to this cafe multiple times but today was the last time. Nowhere does it say that this is a cashless business, yet the person working there seemed utterly surprised when I wanted to pay with cash for bread. I find this policy incompatible with basic EDI regulations. If a homeless person, without an address and therefore without a bank account, wants to buy bread, you will not sell it to them? It excludes also elderly people and the majority of the world who do not have cards compatible with UK banking systems. The policy is a disgrace. When I voiced my criticism, the staff reacted poorly, thoughtlessly defending a rule that turns this cafe into a place catering only to middle and upper class, Western clients. I also find the food underwhelming. I came here with friends for brunch and found a very limited selection of food. The cinnamon buns and pistachio cream pastries were not very good. Coffee is okay. Bread is far too expensive. PS. In response to your comment: I wanted to pay in cash and your staff member refused this. There was no information at the counter about your business being cashless. Perhaps there is one at the entrance. You cannot seriously claim to be all about diversity, when my family from Iran are not able to pay for anything at your cafe! The same goes for the majority of the world - think of tourists visiting who do not have cards compatible with the UK banking system or for whom paying by card results in horrendous transaction fees. I am not returning. You are a business and should be able to return 4.60 GBP to a customer who pays with a 10 GBP note. Thank you for pointing out that many businesses in London go cashless. Having lived and worked here for most of my life, I am quite aware of this. Just because the majority does something, it does not mean it's right.

Went on a quiet Friday morning, so not too busy. Staff were really friendly. Had a piece of blueberry loaf cake and a pistachio brionut. Both delicious! Really good coffee, too. Loved the brownie offcuts by the till, too!

Was really disappointed by this place, especially given the prices. Tasteless coffee, half-heated ham and cheese croissant with way too much floury bechamel, indifferent service (discovered when I sat down that there was no napkin in the bag with the food, and why is there a machine specifically for paying tips at the till when there's no table service?! Why not pay your staff properly?). There are lots of cafes outside the market that do far better coffee - go to one of those instead.

Lovely little bakery hidden in the street. The croissant was dense and buttery, and the dough was a bit chewy, not the lightest and airiest, nothing spectacular but it still hit the spot! Iced latte was okay. Staff were very nice and friendly. Btw their merch is super cute! Love the little mini croissant logo

Elegant modern farmhouse-style bakery with Monmouth coffee, fantastic fruit smoothies that taste exactly as described and super fresh, and great pastries. The venue has its bakery in-house. Overall great, thoughtful interior design and peaceful cosy ambiance despite being situated under a bridge. There were outside tables and the inside smells strongly of great baked goods. Would highly recommend for a breakfast or quick bite to eat. The Petit-Déjeuner deal for breakfast is Coffee, Orange juice, and a classic pastry for £10 until 10am.

I can't recommend this place enough! The aroma of butter greets you before you even step inside, and the pastries are the best in central London. Plus, the staff is incredibly friendly. ❤️

Delicious carrot cake - absolutely obscene

Indulge in heavenly pastries and a charming atmosphere at Comptoir Gourmand. Their pain au chocolat, croissants, and Kouign Amann are simply divine. The sourdough bread is also a must-try. While seating is limited and prices are slightly high, the quality and experience are worth it! 🥐🥖☕️

Would be 5 stars but they've stopped doing the Crownie and Crookies which were 10/10. (Edit to add, they've bought them back but changed the recipe and now they're not as good 😥) Lovely baked goods, the best hot choc in London. Recently refurbished and now they do more lunch foods and it's a lovely place to come during the day for food or a place to work

Very good but I think prices are going a bit crazy.

Had the pistachio as well as the lemon meringue brioche and the almond croissant, they were all.. ok.

Welcoming staff and great coffee for a reasonable price for the area. Perfect for our morning caffeine hit on our city break.

High end cafe/bakery with scratch made food and a cool location under train tracks. Felt like a cool London kid having a sausage roll here.

I had the brioche roll and the apricot danish. They tasted fine but nothing special. The place was also rather crowded, which didn’t lend itself to a great atmosphere.

Love the cosy vibe at the bakery location with the soothing and intermittent low rumble of trains overhead. The staff are always friendly and the coffee and tea is wonderful.

The hazelnut donut is one of the best pastries I have tried. The pastry is soft and the filling is rich and delicious though not too sweet or overly rich - just perfect. The pain au chocolate was good but the filling was not much and a tad dry.

Cosy coffee shop with good coffee and bakery

Very pleasant surprise at the Malby Street Market. Had a great americano coffee and a delicious pistachio 'bronut' (if I remember the name correctly). Everything looked great and delicious, with diverse pastries and baked products. I really want to return.

The food was good, but nothing spextacular. The quiche was way too eggy and cheesy, and the Croquet had too much bechamel. We had to clear our own table.

Awesome bakery, great vibes and lots of space to sit down and enjoy the excellent food. Amazingly you can buy their pastries frozen.

Entitled ppl on a Sunday morning holding a whole table for their “friends to wake up and join them” while we have to eat and drink standing up until they arrive 20 mins later… that’s the kind of ppl you can expect to meet

A great place to have some English pastries that are incredible. I recommend going early on Saturday morning to start the tour of the places on Maltby st.

One of the best cappuccinos I have had in a while. Lovely vibe of the place- earthy- which makes you feel at ease the moment you enter. High ceilings are a win win- and the seating is spacious and so cosy. Full points on the decor. The coffee tasted great (3.60£), and there were loads of bakery options- croissants, other sweet and savoury options. Maltby is an excellent vibe- so you will get loads more out of your visit to this coffee shop. Highly recommended, will visit again.

Comptoir gourmand is just simply magical from the coffee to the pastries and the entire atmosphere. There are loads of coffee houses in Southwark but none can match the magic of the ambiance and quality of Comptoir. The staff as well extremely warm kind and helpful traits that are hard to come by in london. If your in the area you must stop by!

Good bakery, that was busy on my Saturday morning visit. I had a nice Americano with their filter coffee of the day (Colombia). Which I enjoyed very much, it wasn’t bitter at all! Interested to try the pastries next visit!

Fantastic place! Bakery in the back and sitting space in front at Ropewalk (Maltby). They also do the pastries for the Southwark Cathedral Café - which is why we came here. In short: we're enthusiastic. Service was very friendly and helpful. Sandwiches were just great (superb croissants w/ ham&cheese, tuna sandwich in Italian Ciabatta, quiche) and then - house's famous almond croissant, chocolate Trossards (very good chocolate!) and our favourite, the pain á la canelle. A masterpiece, combination of croissants, rugalach and cinnamon, underlaid by caramelised cinnamon-sugar, almost toffee. An adventure if textures and just tremendously yummy. (Monmouth) coffee is, of course, great. Had a brilliant Cortado w/ the exact amount of foam. A must for every next visit!

This place is a hidden gem if you’re looking for someone to sit indoors in this busy market. The food, coffee and pastries are all top quality - and it’s a wonderful place to hold a conversation with a friend or just people watch.

We were unsure we had the correct address when we walked here, as we saw no other restaurants nearby. But then we arrived and had a great experience. The bakery is in full operation in the back, and there’s a nice, spacious dining area in the front. The pastries and quiche were exceptional. Adults and kids all left very happy. We came at 14:00 and got the last almond croissant and cinnamon roll—so come earlier if you want a full selection.

First time we tried was amazing, today, second time, very different - you could tell patries (chocolate twist in particular) was from the day before, unacceptable for a bakery.

We had some delicious pastries here. The only disappointing element was that it did not seem like there was alot of choice. We did arrive after 12:00, however I would have expected a bakery in such a busy part of London to have large offerings the entire day. However the pastries that we had were very tasty.

Not a coffee shop, more like a pop up. Nowhere to sit. Bored looking staff members.

This is my favourite place to spend a Sunday morning for Croissants and coffee, even though we live about 18 miles away. We generally drive the 40 mins. every couple of months or even more regular in the summer months then head off to Columbia Road Flower market after. The coffee is excellent, Monmouth coffee (one of my favourites) and for those that like Oat Milk like me in their flat white they have Oatly Barista, there just is no other like it. I generally always have the Spinach and cheese croissant and my partner the ham and cheese croissant which they can heat up for you. We've tried many of the Danish pastries, the pear one is particularly good, but to honest they are all excellent. The people serving are always friendly and everything is made fresh by a real person (as per the picture). After, if you can squeeze in some more food, pay a visit to Maltby Street Market food stalls just outside the door. There are loads of different foods to choose from. As you meander down you’ll come across a few restaurants also (the pizza one always looks good) and another coffee shop down the opposite end.

Espectacular, debo de decir que la bollería británica me ha sorprendido mucho, en este caso, es un obrador artesano con sitio para degustar, su bollería es artesana y tienen una amplia gama de producto, fui en Noviembre del 2022 y debo decir que si vuelvo a la ciudad iré a este sitio para poder volver a probar sus productos, son extraordinarios

Really nice coffee shop. I went there on a Sunday and it opens at 9am. Ordered some croissants toasted with ham and cheese. Also tried the chocolate twist that was sooo good.

Cozy, amazingly delicious pastries and super friendly staff! Affordable at ~£20 for 2 ham cheese croissants, 1 chocolate twist and 2 coffees. Accidentally stumbled on this place and so glad we did. Pastries are some of the best in London, very tasty and very naughty. If nearby, don't miss this!

All good, but they use disposable cups for the coffee. I avoid disposable cups as much as possible as they change the taste of coffee. Said that, pastries were good and the place looks cool.

I went to grab a croissant first thing in the morning and it was stale and soggy, clearly from the day before. I was so disappointed, won’t be coming back!

DAMN! The bakery was amazing! The croissant might be top 5 I’ve had in my life. The Brionuts were amazing too, but I prefer the hazelnut, somehow the filling was better. But you should def try this place!

Disappointing caneles from Borough Market - I was so excited to see these all piled nice up nicely and not expensive but they were not good. They were doughy when I was expecting soft and fluffy inside. Most disappointing was there was no light crunchy caramelisation on the outside. I didnt try anything else other fromthe stall.

Back here after a while - very busy and buzzy on a Sunday morning. But delighted to find their almond croissants are still the best in London!

Nice bakery found nearby London Bridge, they have 3 branches in the area and this one is the biggest which have both indoor & outdoor seating area for having a coffee. I was there on a rainy day yesterday so no outdoor seating. Their open bakery allow you to see their bread making process 😊 Highly recommend their butter croissant and the almond croissant 🥐 , taste delicious and if you are taking home, reheat in oven make it even better 👍

Fantastic croissants and pastries in general. A really great find. My only nitpick is all the croissant-based pastries where a touch too heavy on butter, which made the pastries a bit too heavy on the stomach. The coffee was not great, just overly burnt/dark espresso-based drinks. But the kids babycinos were great.

Proper French style bakery. Good mix of croissants, Tarte au pimmes, quiche Lorraine and other classics like pain au Chocolat. They have Monmouth coffee. A few tables to sit under the railway arch. Sometimes they have a millefeuille or Paris-Brest, but couldn't find them this time.

Looked on TA for simple breakfast establishments while staying in the area. Saw this and made our way down Druid Street to find what looked like a closed up arch at 98. Fortunately, a door was ajar in the shuttering! On entry we entered the bakery with people busy making pastries. Entry is actually from the passage on the other side of the railway and not from Druid Street. What a find!! Great selection of pastries and excellent coffee. Served by really friendly staff. There are a number of tables to eat inside with tables outside too. Really nice environment with great atmosphere. It’s a must for a simple breakfast

Good coffee and pastries. Worth stopping by if you have a sweet tooth and want a good coffee. They are a few seating spots inside. Finding it, the first time, is not obvious without Google map.

Their pastries are actually worth the money! Try the almond pain au chocolat. The coffee was good too. We also had the hummus baguette — delicious. The staff were personable and helpful.

Tried cinnamon roll, looks good, taste alright and can't taste a lot of cinnamon. Texture is fair, I will come back for sure but only if I can't find another bakery nearby.

A hidden gem in the middle of a murky part of town

Delicious croissants, cakes (especially the brownies) and fresh tasting baguettes. I like this branch of Comptoir because it's where they do all the baking and it's quiet during the week. At the weekend it is busy due to Maltby Street Food Market. There are seats inside plus a couple of benches/tables on ropewalk. It has cosy interiors with a rustic vibe and is inside a railway arch - it's cute!!!! I took a few pictures because I'm writing an article for my blog.

The pastries are so good!! I tried the eclair and pan au chocolate and one of the best in London. Coffee is great also. Giving 4 stars not 5 because staff is not very friendly I ordered coffee with oat milk and the barista mistakenly used normal milk and when I told her she was super passive aggressive with me

I've known about this place when at a food festival I stumble upon a patisserie stall, I bought a pistachio cake and fell in love with it, I kept the packaging (see photo) all this year's! but never visited again for whatever reasons.. It was a memorable experience back then, it was a memorable experience now.

The best sweet hot chocolate I've tried in Bermondsey! Their croissants and pau au chocolate are so soft and fresh, this is definitely a gem around the area!

Locals secret. This location is hardly ever busy during the week. This location has a great set up to meet friends or come alone and enjoy a coffee and treat. The food is is simply amazing and I could eat here every day of the week. The cookies are as big as your head!

Really cool place, usually quite a bit of space. Great coffee and pastries. One bit of feedback: there is enough space in the loo for a changing table and this would be so useful to any parents with little kids/babies.

Caminé por el Gourmand en la calle Bermondsay alrededor de las 6:30 pm de un jueves. Habían establecido 6 lugares, había un menú nocturno de charcutería y de opciones de quiche. Absolutamente perfecto cóctel de ron y canela. Pero lo mejor del lugar es la calidez y el toque humano de las personas que trabajan allí. Le dieron la bienvenida a una cena en solitario, ¡e incluso me invitaron a pasteles gratis al final de mi comida! Es un hermoso lugar para ir solo. Sin embargo, dos parejas parecían disfrutar del ambiente tranquilo y romántico.

Maltby Market - if you don't like it, you & I don;t see eye to eye. And when it's cold and you want to sit somewhere... Then Comptoir is the perfect place. Nice ambiance, great coffee, delicious food... difficult not to love!
