People have to know what to expect. I've never felt moved to do one of these before. When I was there, in October 2022, they didn't even have menus. As the waiter (though he wasn't really that) who was a very nice man, and the only one there with any English at all, explained, they don't have menus: you have to scan a QR code on a bit of paper on the table, and you don't talk to the waiter to order things, you do it online. All the while, the other customers absorbed in their phones, beeping away, sniffing, guzzling with a kind of grim indifferent resignation. Vile food, probably mischosen, but who would I have asked about it beforehand? There were no humans there. No human interaction. Just codes, and smart phones, and a desperately alienating experience at the end of it; and at the beginning. If you're happy with all that, go along. Otherwise, life is too precious to be dehumanised any more than we already have. If this is the future, let's avoid it like the plague.

The tone of an incessant beeping, ignored and neglected by a disengaged staff member who periodically takes to laying down in a booth welcomes the inevitably unprepared customer. The fire exit sign hang limply from the ceiling it's cables removed and floating in the air, so close to being connected...but not. Between the magic marker graffiti we wait for our food, but the magic is already over, the tables are filthy and the food served is beyond sub par on every level. As we leave we look for the food hygiene rating sticker in the window, they don't have one on display, I assume the council need to make a special one for a minus stars rating. Avoid.

My friend and I weren't brave enough to try the gizzards, tongue or fish heads, but the staff helped us choose flavoursome beef noodles, garlic pak choi and rice dish. We shared them and there was more than enough. Busy little restaurant, but all staff involved and serving. Very short wait for first dish, it comes when it's ready, which was fine for us. Highly recommend this place....delicious!!

Had lunch here today with my wife and our 2 sons. Really amazing choices and the place was full of Chinese people which is always a good sign. We had a big bowl of various different meats and vegetables etc Cooke Serbian style and it was incredibly delicious. The only thing I would say is, next time we visit we will ask for mild or even less spicy as we went for medium hot and it blew our heads off! The staff were really friendly and helpful though and we will definitely be returning to try out some more dishes

Skip the blather about rude wait staff — who cares? In any case, it has been a feature of Chinese restaurants for generations. What matters are the food, the price, and correlation between the two. This place features spicy dishes originating mostly in central and western China: Hunan, Sichuan, Etc. My litmus test is always the Chengdu signature dish MaPo Tofu. It’s not difficult to make. I make it at home. Sadly, at Toro I rate it only 7.5/10. One hiccup; there was no Sichuan pepper in the dish. Another was; it wasnt spicy enough. MaPo + Smashed Cucumber + plain rice + two Tsing Tao beers = £29.60. That seemed a bit high to me. Decide for yourself.

Tonight I went to Toro with three friends after a nearby event. The menu I found on the web site was not the same as that at the restaurant; that was the first issue. Then one friend tried to order the gluten-free option on the special menu. It not only wasn't available, but the waitress didn't try to advise my friend of other gluten-free possibilities. We tried to find out if the noodles were rice noodles, but the waitress didn't understand us at all. When the braised beef noodle arrived, the pieces of beef were chunky, tough, and 90% (no kidding) was fat. I tore the fat away as best I could and got on with the meal. At the end, when the waitress saw my bowl half-full of chunks of fat, she asked if it was okay, and when I said it was too fatty, she simply shrugged her shoulders. I love a good noodle bar, but this isn't one of them.

This restaurant is underrated and extremely good. For those that way inclined it also comes with a few karaoke booths with infinite music selection. We visit this restaurant on a weekly basis and the food is always to a very high standard and the portions are also good. It is good value for the prices of the dish. The staff are also very helpful and will take your choices into account when recommending dishes. Overall I would rate this restaurant as excellent and perhaps one of only two of the best Chinese restaurants in Bristol.

I've been visiting Toro for years, thefood quality is above average in Bristol, but one of their older male staff has been a really annoying character. Toro noodles serves some nice food, I have been eating there quite a few times with family and friends. But now I have been visiting this place less now as one slightly older staff, who looks around 40,is really putting me off. He always give you a cold face, never smiles, barely look at you when you try to talk to him.And he definitely doesn't like mums with prams, a couple times we went there with our prams, he just looked annoyed and indicating there's no space for prams even though the restaurant was not busy at all.Absolutely no customer service ettiqutte, just very unhelful, unpleasant person. Why's someone like that been working in the restaurant Toro noodle?

This is my second review. This time we threw ourselves to the mercy of the staff. We said we wanted to eat like their 'regulars' do. So this meant the 3 of us ordered 8 items off a checklist. We were then served everything in a large hotpot. Sounds weird, but it worked and also a lot of fun as we all dipped in to select our mouthfuls one bite at a time. Served with rice. Staff seemed to enjoy helping us whiteys, adding to the very pleasant experience. Including a couple of drinks for Mal and I, £20 per head. No doubt this will be our default Chinese anytime we're off to a show or gig in the area. Highly recommended.

It's a cliché but true; first thing we noticed when we arrived was the place was full of Asian folks. That reassured me from the start. I found the menu a little confusing so was happy to defer to the ladies to sort out our meal. And that worked really well. I can't really say why but the food was quite different to usual Chinese fare. And in a good way. In particular the spicy prawns had a fiery heat flavour quite unlike anything I'd tasted before. It was delicious. Surroundings are basic but comfortable. Staff attentive but unobtrusive. We seemed to be the only group drinking alcohol; bottle of Aussie pinot grigio £13. All in all £25 per head including tip. I really enjoyed it and will happily return.

Went here with my Chinese partner on a Saturday night. Place was quite full and everyone except me and one other were Chinese. Had what they call the ‘flavoursome pot’ where you choose the content from a tick list. The food is spicy and one of the choices on the tick list was the degree of spiciness you want - low, medium or high. I chose medium but the waitress advised I went low if I wasn’t used to the food. So I did, and it was quite spicy enough. Don’t choose the high unless it’s for a bet. The food was good for a change from the usual Chinese, the restaurant was nice but not smart. Recommend it as long as you take on board what to expect

I went BACK to Toro - formerly my favourite restaurant in Bristol - intending to meet two friends there. When I turned up, I found that it was under totally new management and had had a very shoddy refurb. The fomerly cute and trendy decor had been replaced with laughably rubbish wallpaper with crude replicas of what were obviously meant to be ancient scrolls on them. The former 3 menus had been replaced by one, with a lot of my fave food gone. Still, around me were many Chinese diners, eating proper portions of food for a Chinese restaurant that serves Chinese people, i.e. the bowls costing £10-£12 should serve two people at least. I ordered a bowl of century egg congee, which little did I know was the only decently sized portion in the meal I was about to eat.

I came here with a friend for lunch. The restaurant was pretty busy, making it look promising! However for the price (around £10 for one substandard udon noodle soup dish), we were most disappointed. The quality of the food, especially the chicken (it tasted rubbery and processed), was very poor and the whole dish lacked any authentic Asian flavour. Perhaps I just chose badly off the menu, because other tables' dishes looked appetising and more value for money. Service was slow as well. Not sure whether it's worth me trying again here.

What tells you this restaurant is good when you walk in the door is the smell and how many Chinese customers are eating there. Humbly calling itself a noodle bar, it includes many traditional Chinese dishes, as well as Chinese dishes served in Western manner (as in individual portion) - not just noodles! When we came in, the food on other tables looked amazing - loads of big sharing bowls and sizzling platters. I had to go and ask for a menu after we'd been sitting down for 15 minutes and nobody had offered one. I was given the big 'designed' A3 menu, which was full of single dishes and no sharing plates in sight. Sadly didn't clock until after we had ordered that there was another menu on offer - all the Chinese people around us were ordering off a simpler menu I noticed afterwards. So, great food potentially, but sadly they assume white people aren't interested in authentic Chinese food and would prefer a bland pad thai or anaemic broth. Really disappointed, and upset that we weren't at least offered a choice of both menus. Making assumptions about what your customers want based on their ethnicity is not great, we won't be coming back.

My wife and I came to toro noodle bar after a couple of friends recommended it to us a while ago. It's taken us a few months to go but we're so glad we did. Upon arriving, we were greeted by smiling staff and shown to a table by the window. It was a Friday night so Park Street was quite busy as you'd expect. We didn't mind, we like to people watch. From where we sat, the restaurant looked almost full. The top half had only two round tables free. There were many Chinese students here which indicated that this restairant was a good place to eat. The interior is decorated with an oriental feel in mind but with a modern look. The restaurant itself is very clean and the staff were quick to clear up mess left on tables. We ordered a pot of jasmine tea and quickly placed our food order at the same time. We needed to be at St Georges in an hours time so couldn't wait too long.My wife ordered king prawn pad thai, I had a Japanese chicken teriyaki ramen and we shared a salt and pepper squid. The ramen was delicious. The chicken was tender and the marinade they used tasted authentic. I didn't try the pad thai but my wife enjoyed it. The squid had disappeared, we don't know where it went. Oh well. All this cost less then £35 and within an hour we had finished and went across the road to St Georges. This was one of the most enjoyable meals we've had out and we thank our friends Daniel and Sally for telling us about this fantastic restaurant.Visited September

It is really a excellent authentic chinese restaurant, I am very lucky to find it!

My boyfriend and I visited toro noodle bar after reading some good reviews and being voted one of the top five Asian restaurants in Bristol. We wanted to see how good they were.We went on a Tuesday evening at 7pm and the restaurant was packed, full of Oriental people. Luckily, a very nice young lady quickly prepared a table for us near the back of the restaurant. As we walked through, we seen on almost every table, large trays of fish being eaten from electric cookers and huge bowls filled with a mix of different ingredients. We later found out they have separate menus for what they aptly named flavoursome pot and grilled fish. A bit of research online and found these to be very popular in China. After looking at their various menus, we were astonished at how their chefs can cook so many different things and keep the quality consistent. Seeing so many non English clientele here, shows this isn't your regular Chinese restaurant. For drinks, we ordered a small glass of Pino Grigio and their Chinese beer. No, not Tsing Tao. It's a beer from Beijing, named Yanjing. Although not as smooth as Tsing Tao, at least they don't have the same chinese beer as their competitors. For food, we asked the young lady whether she could recommend something authentic for us to try. She was very attentive and made sure she picked dishes we'd like. We wanted some seafood and a fresh vegetable but nothing spicy. It took a few minutes but we ended up ordering Mixed Seafood with Japanese Tofu and Gai lan with Garlic and two bowls of rice.Considering the restaurant was full, we had only waited 20 minutes for the food to arrive. The mixed seafood was served in a red hot sizzling pot, which added to the excitement and the vegetables looked like they were just picked from their garden! We're not experts on Chinese food but, we eat out a lot. The dishes we had were excellent. The flavour, texture, freshness, presentation were all on point. We found the service was good. During our meal, we were asked by our server if our food was okay and offered us some water as we didn't re order any drinks. All in all, it was an amazing meal and an eye opener seeing so many different types of food being eaten by their clientele. We'll definitely be back soon and will give their specialties a try.

Amazing food, genuine Chinese cuisine and fairly priced. Totally recommend it! The hotpots can be shared by two persons.

The best Chinese restaurant in Bristol! Not typical either - had something called a hotpot dish, sharing the food in the way it came out was both an experience and delicious!

I really fancied Tom yum so we went here. I ordered a Tom yum curry and got laksa, when I asked i was told it was Tom yum. I'm from Malaysia and I know the difference. We also ordered green tea and got jasmine tea and again were told it was green tea. Disappointing. Won't be going back.

We used to go to Toro a lot and loved it. Since it re -opened after a refurb - and a possible change of management as I don't recognise any of the staff any more - it's gone down hill. The prices have gone up and the portion sizes have gone down. The 'szechuan' aubergine now appears to be battered aubergine with a tiny drizzle of szechuan sauce, our other dishes were also less flavoursome than before - and they have tried to conceal the smaller portions by putting a layer of salad underneath the food to make it look bigger. We used to visit regularly but sadly have decided we won't be coming back.

Me and my husband, we have been coming here for years! This is the nicest place on Park Street, and offers a wide range of very good quality Asian Food. Furthermore, it gives Students with a card and cash an attractive reduction. Here, this family run business is still one where you get greeted with a smile and if you do have any further wishes, they help you out and don't charge extra. There is always an attractive offer on the menu and we just love the place for its comfy ambience. Lunch before 3 pm, cause they close from 3 to 5 pm. Even on a Saturday. Thanks

My Thai partner insisted that we eat at the Toro Noodle Bar. I am so glad we did. The clientele was overwhelmingly Chinese, but this didn't matter as the food was superb. There is a large choice of not only Chinese food but a good choice of South East Asian food too. All the food was served piping hot. Steam coming from every pot and place served. Indeed, there was steam coming from my partners plate a good 10 minutes after service. All the food we ordered was tasty and indeed, if I was capable of doing so, I'd have ordered a lot more food. Good attentive service as you would expect. There was also a very active take-away service and doggie bags also frequently given to customers. Highly recommended to visitors to Bristol

Took a friend here for her birthday. Food was very good- we had a set menu with a bottle of wine for just over £30. Such a good night. It's a very informal place- almost canteen like but the food makes a visit worthwhile.

Decided to pop into Toro whilst on a night out in Bristol. I was extremely impressed, the quality of the food was excellent and there were some interesting dishes on the menu that seemed a lot more authentic than a lot of Asian resteraunts. The portions were huge and a meal for me and my parter with drinks was only £20. Will definatley visit again the next time I'm in Bristol.

I have visited Toro over two years on about 10 occasions. Initially the food was excellent and very impressive, however, the food has decreased in quality and I have finally decided not to go to Toro anymore! The food has been brought out cold, tasted bad and I have been mischarged and had items substituted or requests ignored over time. Gradually the food has become less and less edible and very disappointing.

The clientele are mainly Chinese so the food on offer isn't the usual salt, sugar and oil combination which Brits prefer but the more authentic dishes one would eat in China itself. Had a very decent Szechuan boiled beef in hot oil-it could have been better if more peppercorns had been added but overall, I was surprised to have this dish as the last time I had it was in Chengdu. The rest of the food my friends had was good-the chicken they ate had bones but then that's the way Asians prefer their chicken as they consider breast meat tasteless.

We popped in here for a light supper after a film. It's nicely laid out with simple furniture and pleasantly lit. There were also lots of oriental diners, which is always a good sign.We were given complimentary prawn crackers and water was brought without us asking - nice start.I ordered Japanese ramen noodle soup, described as 'Delicious ramen noodles topped with fried pork, tasty spinach, half boiled egg and nori shavings, topped with spring onions.' When the dish arrived, it was indeed a generous portion. However, there was no spinach; instead what appeared to be iceberg lettuce. What surprised me was that the dish was almost entirely tasteless. Obviously lettuce tastes of nothing but the broth seemed to be plain water. The fried pork was plentiful and tender but, again, almost entirely tasteless, as was the nori. Is this what Japanese food is meant to be like?My wife had a beef noodle dish and declared it very tasty so maybe I just chose the wrong thing but I can't give more than 2/5 based on my actual dining experience.

I took some friends here having seen the 4 star average review, one of the group said they had a bad experience there last time after waiting over an hour for his food and decided he'd skip the food. Should have just chosen somewhere else at that point but I was really craving some asian food and thought I would trust the reviews on here. A group of four of us ordered congee, chow mein, mapotofu, fujian fried rice and japanese style ramen. All very below average, the ramen and fried rice left almost untouched, I even took a photo of the ramen because it was so bad. Having had better food at places that charge £3 a dish in London, I'm really hoping this isn't "The best place in Bristol for Pan Asian Cuisine". The ramen broth tasted just like plain water with a bit of salt. Raw lettuce and seaweed and I don't even know what the meat was. Wrong noodles, which I wouldn't have cared about if the broth was remotely broth-like...It really ought to be taken off the menu completely.

I lived in East Asia for a bit and can sort of passably cook one or two kinds of South Chinese food. I can do a little Taiwanese food too. At the moment I'm living in a place with few good East Asian restaurants, so when I'm in Bristol, I feel tempted. Today was my second visit to Toro and, like last time, it didn't disappoint. I had a bowl of beef brisket soup and the green tea ice blend, while my boyfriend had a kind of mixed meat noodle stir fry and got the free refill on coke. We shared a plate of pak choi with oyster sauce. The beef brisket soup was absolutely delicious, very tender, and the pak choi was amazing, exactly the same as I used to be able to get in normal local restaurants in Taiwan. Partner liked his stir fry very much and also enjoyed the pak choi. The green tea ice blend was *not* made the same as in East Asia, because it was only subtly sugared, and honestly that's no bad thing; I don't like my drinks very sweet. The head waiter I'm pretty sure remembered us from last time, left me to my own devices with chopsticks and brought a fork for my boyfriend. All the waiters are really friendly and pleasant. Basically what I'd say about this is, my boyfriend got something you could buy in a better Chinese takeaway in Britain, whereas I got something more like what ordinary people eat in some parts of China and also Taiwan. Either 'authentic' or sort of 'Anglo-Chinese' appetites are catered for here. Nobody is ruled out. For me, this makes this restaurant an easy recommendation to anyone. The previous time we went here, I had Sichuan Dream Pork and century egg congee, while boyfriend had a rice dish (memory fail!!) and the spicy fried squid from the white side of the menu (one side is white and one side is red). Again everything was really tasty that time. We nicked each other's food. If you get Sichuanese here and you are an English speaker, it might be worth letting the waiters know if you want Sichuan peppercorns in it. That was the only thing I didn't see a lot of in my dish.Today, I asked about the hotpot that's advertised in the window, getting curious now. Not sure if Toro are aiming this at the western market, because the promo materials are literally all written in Mandarin, but guys, if you're reading this, there IS a growing public interest in what hotpot is all about. You can make money on this. The lad I was talking to said that this is a 'unique kind of hotpot, not like other places... the stuff is on skewers' which you then cook in the bowl of soup. Well ok, that's interesting! This is the kind of hotpot they do in places like Chengdu, as he confirmed. I've never ever had it. He gave me the paper menu, which is also all in Mandarin. An 'awkward tourist' moment ensued for me as I realised I've forgotten most of what I knew of this language. Er, whoops. After staring for a bit, I recognised the words meaning 'mutton' and possibly 'da chang' i.e. intestine, tripe, and have taken it home so someone who is fluent / a less lazy student than me can tell me all of what I am looking at. In summary, hope this restaurant keeps doing what it does, I'd love to see the hotpot more widely promoted, and I should practise my Mandarin.

After a meeting in Bristol, needed a quick late lunch. Love noodles so tried Toro Noodle Bar & wasn't disappointed. Restaurant was nearly empty as it was late for lunch (3.00pm). Extensive menu, food came quickly & was very tasty. Staff pleasant & helpful. Car parking outside (paying) which was convenient. Close to the uni, so I expect it's busier in term-time.

I ordered takeout from this restaurant based on good reviews. Like I said, it was extremely disappointing. Waited 1 hr and 30 mins to receive my food after being quoted 45 mins. After 1hr and 15 mins went by I called the restaurant (6:45) and the woman said the driver had left at 6 o clock. The restaurant was less than two miles away and she said it must be the traffic. Very strange. Anyway, I finally got the food (no apology for wait). I ordered crispy beef, sweet and sour chicken, and veg & tofu crispy noodles. Everything was inedible. They also forgot to put tofu in the noodles. Crispy beef tasted and smelled like dog food. Sweet and sour sauce was off and the chicken had a weird after taste. I'm not sure why it is that being in the UK I can't find any decent Chinese food. I've moved here from America and I've never tasted such bad Chinese food to where I threw it out after having one bite. Such a waste of time and money.

We recently had a lunchtime family meal at Toro. The service was courteous and quick with all four dishes arriving within 10 minutes.Unfortunately the food only ranked as OK. I had a King Prawn Pho Noodle Soup from the "Toro's Favourites" section of the menu. Whilst it was nice enough it was one of the more expensive dishes on the menu and was the sort of thing I could easily produce at home.

Toro is a pan-asian restaurant. Here you pick what type of meal you would like, if you want dry noodles or ones in a broth and then what flavour base. I think in this meal I picked was a Seafood Pad Thai in a broth with a curry flavour base. It was amazing!! The staff were very polite and always topped up my water even without asking. They were also kind enough to talk us through the meals too! I enjoyed my time here and will visit again

I popped here for takeaway on the way home from the pub last night and couldn't decide as there are so many delicious things to choose from! The manager helpfully tried to narrow it down for me. I eventually decided on a side of satay chicken skewers plus a main of mixed seafood raman. I was invited to sit at a table to wait but I didn't have to wait very long. I only have short walk hom from these guys so was able to quickly enjoy everything while still hot - the satay skewers were superb and the raman had plenty of large prawns, squid and scallops tossed amongst the sesame seed strewn noodles. Gorgeous! It was around 12 quid for the lot which I felt it was worthy of as it was such good food. Will be back! :D

They say the best way to judge a restaurant on holiday is to choose the one the locals go to. When the locals are from Asia, and the restaurant is in Bristol, then you know the food is going to be good! Authentic, delicious food and at a reasonable price. Atmosphere was great. A little slice of Asia on Park Street.

I came here a while back but didn’t get round to leaving a review. I’m from london, and I went to Bristol to visit family. We came out to eat and we chose this place. The food was good and the staff were very friendly. It was a nice and chilled vibe and a very relaxing experience. This place is good for a meal for two or even a meal for the family. I enjoyed my visit.
