Amazing food but sometimes the chips are a bit raw

Number one fish &chip shop very slick service the place I like to go .

It has always been amazing since I was 5 years old trying it for the first time. This is the first time I've been back in a couple of years due to moving away. Ive Only given service a 4 star due to the lad behind the counter.

Poor service. Had to wait ages because the incompetent fish fryer failed to read the order slip properly. Chips undercooked, fish cold because of the wait. The owner is very boring to listen to.

Bitterly disappointed with this evening's cod and chips. Usually consistently very good here, but this was a substandard large cod dinner. Very little fish and a lot of brittle batter. This experience won't stop me from using the shop again, but has been a disappointment.

Food was good, order was wrong but by time got home , shop was closing in 5 mins. 2 x fish and chips ended up being only 1 chips and the battered mars bars were battered snickers.

Opened my cod and chips, try put the fish on my plate and then suddenly loads of oil came from the fish, to much oil didn’t drain it very well, then asked for no salt and vinger and they did put that on, so not impressed at all. But great service from the staff

Having travelled to visit a friend, each time we have Cod and Chips ( and mushy peas) from Topshop. It’s tucked around the corner from the Main Street in a residential road. But it’s popular with local people who know where it is. Excellent quality fresh fish cooked to order. Skinless and boneless. Chips are excellent too. The owner takes pride in his work and it shows. Always really happy with this food.

Wow wow wow, after last night escapades and very very shocking food from the town fryer me and the old man decided to go to our favourite instead, the top shop fish and chips and wow for someone who wasn’t hungry at all it went flying down. Last nights food from the town fryer well I didn’t even eat it after a few mouths full. Tonight we really wanted another try at fish and chips and top shop fish and chips did me proud. If I could recommend out of ten it would be 20. The gravy was the best, never tasted gravy so nice, thick and full of flavour. Plenty of salt and vinegar when asked too. I am fussy with s&v but the got it bang on. My old man said service was top notch and they even served him a few minutes from closing time. Please do not go town fryer guys as you will be very very disappointed, I advice top shop fish and chips all year round. Thank you guys I ate every single bit and I wasn’t even hungry, the flavours got me munchin. Well done and keep up the good work You can tell they care for their food and customers when they reply to the reviews too.

I love Hake, so it's great to find a chippy that sells it. Frank and his staff give excellent service and the food is what you'd expect from a first class establishment. Wouldn't get my fish and chips from anywhere else.

This place gets super busy so get there in plenty of time. Portions are generous, good tasting food. hake, cod and haddock fish available.

Afraid they've gone down hill. Last 3 times ive been have not been good shame as used to be good.

Good quality fish well cooked exelent value for money

Chips are very good but they need a new pie supplier. There is too much thick pastry and very little filling. Lets them down.

What excellent food, haven’t been here in about 3 years( usually have takeaways the far end of Cornwall) after a very long sea swim last night, emerged Hank Marvin, decided to have a treat and ordered a battered beef burger. It was THE BEST I have tasted, usually in other chippies (not Torpoint) they put the raw burger in the batter and fry, then the batter is crunchy and golden but a limp, colourless burger. Not here, burger and batter were perfect as were the chips and curry sauce so thank you. Also excellent service with safe procedure due to Covid where you take a ticket and wait outside. Can’t wait to go back after I’ve earned it with a swim.

Great fish and chips up there with the best I’ve ever had. The hake I had was 2 inches thick and the batter was not soggy or too thick, even the chips were more flavoursome than most.

Always good . Glad they are back from lockdown . Best in the town .

Arrived in Torpoint and needed something to eat late at night, decided on a Fish & Chips from the Top Shop. Good value and well cooked fish and chips, just the thing for the cold wet night.

What a little gem, had lunch from here yesterday and staff are really friendly and food was brilliant . Reminded me of proper good old fashioned chips, and was reasonably priced

A modest premise tucked away in an fairly ordinary housing estate yet the standard of both the fish and the chips are exceptional. Amazing flavour, Unforgettable taste and terrific value for money. I will go further to profess that this has to be the best fish n chip shop anyone is likely to find. Highly recommendable.

I moved to Cornwall from the Midlands 5 years ago. Since then i have honestly never had great fish and chips just so so! And that is if you can get there before 8 pm because for some reason they all close by then. I live in Seaton and only popped to this chip ship because it was after 7.30 and it amazingly opens till 9pm! I am so glad i did What you have is a no bull chip shop with a double than average size menu (Including Savaloy .. the Cornish don’t know what this little bute is!) Great chips ,not dry, not soggy.. perfect We only had pies and gravy with them which again were great. Even the gravy was well made no lumps at all. Served by a very pleasant young lady and i would imagine this could possibly be a daughter as family was deffinatly the theme there. So all in all after 5 years of searching i found the best chippy in Cornwall just off a back street in Torpoint Well done that family and many thanks

Travelled 10 miles given the good reviews. Absolute waste of money. The fish batter was soggy and the fish had been fried in old oil. You could smell it when opening the package and the bottom batter of the fish was covered in dark brown stuff. Cold wrinkly chips that did not taste fresh. The fish (cod) was tolerable but dry. So we ended up with cod only for dinner. Pretty awful and a waste of money.

I have recently started a new job over Torpoint and not knowing the area stumbled upon this chip shop. I have visited a number of times now for my lunch and I couldn’t fault it best food good prices and amazing friendly staff. I’m dumbfounded how they have been given bad reviews.

i visit here frequently (about twice a month generally) and have never had a bad meal. it is what it is, its a fish and chip shop, and a very good one, so i am a little bemused by a few of the negative reviews . i can only assume there is a prior motive to leaving said reviews. this chippy has an excellent reputation locally, with good reason.

I totally disagree with some of these negative reviews below. I have been a regular to this chippy for around 4 years. All the staff are very friendly and welcoming, kids lollipops etc. Food is, and always has been cooked to order. Never have I seen food already cooked waiting on the hot counter. I have never had to complain about quality of food, always hot and cooked just right. As for the fish being too greasy! Total rubbish, best Fish & Chip shop in Torpoint.

So me and my partner visited this establishment a few weeks ago and just ordered chips and drinks. This totalled up to over £10. Didn't think anything of it until I arrived home and realised that we had been over charged. It was only by about £3 so didn't bother to go back for the money. We then decided this eve to treat ourselves.... However we were both thoroughly disappointed. Sooooo much grease and you could tell by the taste and texture of the fish that the oil had not been changed in a while. The fish was weirdly dry and wet and chewy all at the same time. Will not be back. We understand that the price of cod has gone up.... But seriously guys as we are paying more, the quality should be on top form.

I have travel all over the United Kingdom and enjoyed fish and chips wherever I went, but never found a better chippy than the Top Shop.

Best fish and chips in Torpoint

Last time wrote a review for this place , I gave it 4 ☆ , well now it's worth 5 ☆ . Really in their stride now and it shows . The premises seem to have a cosmetic makeover . Still using seemingly unusual method of order processing , however it seems to work , and they seem to have got quicker with it . So unless you are vegetarian this is still the best place for fish and chips in Torpoint or the surrounding area .

Excellent haddock fish and good value for money

I don’t know what they do to the batter, but it’s the best you will ever taste.. it’s light, crispy and lovely and crunchy. Fish is always cooked to perfection. Chips are a decent size.. nice and crisp.. I would highly recommend this shop

Amazing shop with lovely owners. They're always happy for a chat while you wait for your food and bring a welcoming environment to their store. They also employ quite a few young people to help with rush hours making it feel a lot more friendly to be in there.

I work in the area and live not far always have haddock and chips and they are always consistently spot on, great chips and the haddock is beautiful il be honest iv Not had better fish and chips And the staff are always so friendly just eating some whilst I write this

We were staying in the area and saw the reviews on trip advisor so decided it would be our go to for a chip shop supper. Food cooked to order meaning nice and fresh, 4 of us really enjoyed our chip shop supper from here.
