An excellent meal. I had the tapas, with an extra scallop, and it was all delicious. The seafood all tasted fresh and was prepared and cooked very well. The staff were friendly and helpful. Highly recommended.

I’d heard a lot about Mariner’s and was keen to try, especially after looking at their website and reading about fresh food, homemade batter etc. My order of onion rings and squid was inedible. It very obviously came from a bag of the cheapest frozen produce available. The whole lot went in the bin.

Yummy fish and chips (and I am Cornish!)

Parking at this chippy is a nightmare. You will most likely have to park illegally, walk some distance or have someone drive around to pick you up. The fish and chips are of good quality but I ordered the plaice as I usually do at chippys that serve it. It was the smallest piece of fish that I have ever received at a takeaway (see photo). It qualified as a gujon. Plaice is a premium fish and demands a pemium price (£7.40) at a chippy but this was taking the proverbial. One normally gets one side of the plaice as a fillet, either the top (with brown skin) or the bottom (with white skin) and I got one half of the top side. It has to be a very large plaice for it to be quartered and this fish was not large by any stretch of the imagination. The fish was made to look larger by reducing the portion size of the chips (£3.30). The photo was taken before I had I had eaten anything. As a Cornish resident and a regular visitor to Falmouth all I can say is that you have had your chance.

A lovely takeaway situated in the heart of Penryn. I recently had the pleasure of trying the fish and chips at Mariners Takeaway. The dish was an absolute delight from start to finish. It's a taste experience that combines fresh ingredients, skillful cooking, and thoughtful accompaniments. The takeaway also has a nice selection of magazines and newspapers to read while you wait. On this occasion there were even free locally picked apples! The friendly staff provided a warm and welcoming service. A top takeaway in the heart of Penryn!

My wife is a "full on coeliac" and Mariners provide completely "gluten free" grub! Their "standard" grub is excellent as well!!

Ordered a take away to collect at 6pm today - 1st August - paid on the phone - special fish available was Hake - one small portion, one large portion. Ordered the fish + peas and chips. Collected the order - ready on time - home to eat what was an OUTSTANDING meal. Worth every penny - great service, great meal - WELL DONE to the Mariner`s Team.

BUT…generous looking “cod bites” were almost fishless large pieces of chewy batter, chips were dry / overcooked / not particularly fresh tasting, curry sauce was weird, tasted like curry and beefy gravy mixed together. The worst chippy dinner I can remember.

Brought a takeaway. 2 haddock and chips. Fish was lovely but the batter has caused tummy upset and severe indigestion. Chips where awful funny taste. The shop was clean and spotless but our food was of poor quality.

Called in midweek for food. Served promptly. We ordered cod & chips, fish gougons & chips and curry sauce I felt the cod portion was on the small side compared to my local chippie. The curry sauce was different having more of a barbecue flavour. We did enjoy the food.

Not withstanding the quality of the food, which as always is very good, totally understand the reason that a couple of pieces of fish and a portion of chips is £18.90 but then to have the blatant audacity to charge 20p for a paper bag to carry it home in ( and is not a bag you can actually re-use) is almost shameful to be honest and based on that I am no longer going to be your customer as I am sure that the bags cost about 4p each and you should be factoring that into your costs and absorbing it as it’s not a profit base you should be exploiting. And that’s what it is “exploitation” plain and simple. To put a figure on your loss with me as a customer circa £200 GTO pa.

I ordered the squid and instead of it being chewy and seasoned it was bland and soft and mushy. Something weird happened in the process of cooking it, maybe even over cooking it but it tasted awful and my stomach now hurts. A waste of 9.60£ (this was with chips, the original price was 7£ something) the chips were fine I guess.

Saw lots of good reviews so made a point of trying it out on a trip to Falmouth, it was ok but not exceptional.

The food was good though it didn't warrant the price. I had a large cod, cheesy chips and curry sauce. However, it was over £17? I couldn't believe the price... Most fish and chip shops in the UK would charge between £8-12 for this. That said, I wouldn't have minded paying this much if the food was top tier, it just wasn't. The piece of cod was pretty small and the cheesy chips weren't up to much either. Just standard chippy quality for double the price. The staff were friendly and the kitchen looked clean but I won't be coming back as it's just too expensive.

Amazing fish and chips best around here , the menu has many surprises for a small local shop the monk fish is out of this world and the quality is outstanding , portions are amazing and comparable to any fish and chip shop to be honest I’m not sure why others have said it’s small maybe they are the competition jokes lol . They have gluten free available on set days , prices are in comparison to others in area but the quality knocks the socks off the competition . Prices are going up for us all , food , oil, gas , electric etc that’s life .

Normally we come here as the quality is superb. However this week it was extremely disappointing. The haddock and chips at £9.80 , the fish was tiny. I get costs are going up but we as a family cannot afford this as a treat if we are not getting value for money. Poor response from them , don't think we will go back

Right. I'm 69 years old and have eaten a lot of fish and chips in my time! I have just finished the best example I have ever eaten. The haddock and chips, mushy peas and curry sauce were all significantly better than the local alternatives, and they seem to have developed a cooking system that doesn't result in the heavy, greasy product that normally leaves me reaching for the Gaviscon! The fish batter is not that aerated, oil filled stuff we are normally fobbed off with to make the fish portion look bigger, it just does the job of protecting the fish. Wonderful. Also the chips actually taste of potatoes, the home made mushy peas were really good, and without the usual artificial fluorescent green look. Awesome curry sauce as well. I don't normally do reviews but I have taken the trouble to log in and post this review, because it was so good! Brilliant job, Thank you

Whilst recognising the very high number of positive reviews we didn't share that great experience with our food. Being our first time here since the changing hands of 'Nemos' nearby, we thought that we'd try a change. The first thing that jumped out at us was the cost, the second thing was the very small size portions of fish, each fillet was not far off the size of two fish fingers strapped together, a complete joke and the opposite to the platehangers that we'd grown to love at nearby Nemos that were large portions served with a side for under £9. Finishing on a positive, although an unacceptably small portion the fish was well cooked, the chips a bit soggy but edible. The premises are clean and the staff friendly but we won't be returning again.

Good food, quite pricey, but getting a 4 star because you’ve stopped doing gravy! That’s what us northern folk live on!

I've been visiting Mariners for years now and there are no other chip shops that can touch it as far as I'm concerned. The consistency of quality is remarkable, I can honestly say I've never had a bad meal there once. The chips are absolutely lovely, the fish is really flavoursome and the batter crispy and also full of flavour. These are not oily or greasy at all. The salads are also superb should you prefer that instead. All the staff are polite and friendly even when they are busy which they usually are. You will not find better Fish and chips anywhere!

It’s so rare to find a place that takes gluten free food preparation and cooking so seriously. So many times We go into restaurants with GF options only to find they’ve contaminated their cooking area or don’t have the ingredients. Here, the GF implements and cooking areas are clearly separated and the ‘fresh off the boat’ white board had lots of GF options. The fish and chips were delicious too! Thank you so much for taking this condition seriously and allowing sufferers to enjoy the same food that non sufferers can. Well done Mariners Takeaway! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Tapas boxes are an excellent selection. Fish is cooked to perfection! Not the cheapest fish and chips you will buy but arguably one of the best, you can see that every extra penny goes into the quality. An absolute treat 🤌

Best chippy in Falmouth or Penryn. Make sure you check their 'catch of the day' board for locally caught fish. The breaded lemon sole is exceptional.

The chips I bought here were quite dry, so I guess they were hanging about for some time. The fish was not the largest and had a lot of batter. I have had much better elsewhere.

Best fish and chips in Penryn and Falmouth- better than Harbour Lights. Fish is always really fresh, loads of different menu choices. Recommend ringing ahead in busy periods to minimise queuing.

Well presented however very expensive, I chose a large cod with small mushy peas the cod was over £9, I expected a decent size fish however it was the size of a normal portion about 8" long with the peas it was over £10, no longer a lunchtime meal price I could get a sit-down evening meal for that price. The fish was nice but the cost left a bad taste. If it's a lunchtime grab find somewhere else. I get the feeling it's more geared for tourists.

Staying local and decided to take a fish supper to the beach. One of our party is coeliac and so good to find GF taken seriously here - GF fish, chips and dips and double checked before packing. Great to see name of boat supplying...

If you want the best fish and chips, you cannot do better than Mariners. The fish is fresh and beautifully cooked in batter that is dry in the carton. The chips are plentiful and tasty. So so good!

Sorry but we would not agree that what passes for "Large" is in fact large. Large chips £4.30, really? Tasty but not worth the price. Large fish £8.30 but no larger than standard elsewhere. Would also agree with previous post regarding the thick batter, more...

Went for the gluten free fish and chips. The batter was thick and the fish thin and dry. The chips were pretty tasteless. I doubt they were cooked in dripping? I have no idea how you can drain the flavour out of something as simple...

So happy they do vegetarian chips, not cooked in beef dripping (quite hard to find). Varied menu, including veggie and gluten free. Lovely chips. Great customer service.

Good selection of burgers, very tasty. Good coffee, best so far. Lots of room inside with great views. Friendly staff & dog friendly.

Fish was great, batter was thin and crisp. Chips were nice, not overdone but had a very slight aftertaste of lard - hence 4*.

I researched the local fish and chips in the area, and after reading all the reviews found this to be the best. We weren't disappointed! Very efficient covid safety precautions inside, with perspex sections for the queuing customers. We had haddock and chips cooked fresh to order, waited a few minutes for it, but lovely quality. Nice crisp batter which had been drained well so didn't seep any oil. Chips were good and crispy. Very good quality, great taste and I'd highly recommend them. Cheerful greeting from the staff who obviously care about their customers. 10/10

Way Overpriced!! ...nearly 7 quid for sausage chips and small curry...the curry, hmm, I have never tasted anything like it in my life...like a mix of gravy with another flavour added..revolting..as a new resident in the area I will not be going back ..

Used to only go to nemos but since the change in management recently disappointed me I decided to change to mariners. What a fabulous choice it was. Wonderful service and delicious food. My new weekly chippy

Absolutely amazing! We were recommended this place as the best in the area...we are in the Stithians area...and it didnt disappoint. Great cod and chips, lovely panko prawns. The menu is refreshingly not-just-the-norm with some super tasty options beyond battered cod and chips. The batter on the cod was lovely, not too much, and is listed as a secret family recipe. Chips were lovely...two of us normally share a portion, but the Mariners standard size was plenty for one, maybe not enough for two... Parking: behind the main high street, lower side, is a free carpark with a little lane going back up to the street a couple shops down from the Mariners - recommend parking there rather than on the high street. Great fish and chips :-)

Excellent fish and chips, probably the best I’ve had. A holiday to the coast always means fish and chips. The place is very clean, lots of fish to choose from on the menu with the usual non-fish items. Good portion sizes without being over facing....

Whenever we want fish and chips we always use mariners as we have never had a bad experience there, you do have to wait a little while for food but it is SO worth the wait. We wouldn’t want to go anywhere else.

Discovered this a few years ago, and it never fails to impress, must be one of the best chippers in the UK. My wife who is Coliac is very happy with it. The variety of fish options are brilliant, and their home made sauces are quality too!

We first visited Mariners over three years ago when we lived just down the road. Have tried others, but nowhere else even comes close! Kerry has the gluten free cod & chips and says it is always perfect.
