The Gem Fish Bar in Cornwall, Isles of Scilly

We've tried a lot of fish and chip takeaways in Falmouth and The Gem is consistently the best. We've had Haddock and Cod, both are fresh and cooked in light, crispy batter that doesn't go at all soggy by the time you get home. Chips taste fresh and crispy and not at all greasy. Mushy peas are lovely, thick and not runny so exactly how they should be. Lovely staff, always very friendly and happy.

Absolutely brilliant service, wonderful food, lovely batter and delightful cod, and brilliant vegetarian options too, and so good with gluten and nut allergies for my parents so thank you! And wonderful service by Maisy and Stuart, thank you! Food had: 1 Regular Cod and Chips, 1 Gluten Free cod and chips 1 Kids cod and chips with curry sauce 1 Fish-less fillets and vegan chips And beautiful Sea themed christmas tree too!

Fluffy chips that you're not still testing a few hours later, perfectly squeaky halloumi burger making a welcome change to faux meat or standard vegetable options, huge fish, and spot on chicken pieces. Only word of warning on the food is the portions are decent so if like me you don't like throwing good food away, don't do the usual ordering a bit extra just in case unless your waistband is elasticated 😂 Really good price as well and friendly but not pushy service. Will definitely be back!

We had a really nice fish’n’chip super at The Gem this evening. My daughter is veggie and had a delicious halloumi burger, and the rest of us had either fish’n’chips or a burger. It was all delicious, and really reasonably priced. The service was really good and the waitresses were lovely. Top place! (no pun intended)

Best chippie in Falmouth and Penryn! Had a sit in meal - great fluffy, crisp chips delicious mushy peas and I had one of the vegan options which was great. Staff were friendly and helpful too. Thank you Gem - been looking for a good chippy in Falmouth for a while! Highly recommended!

Great food, great decor and great service. A lovely evening, restaurant was quiet on our visit, but the activity in the chip shop next door gave the place a buzz. Highly recommended.

Within the space of about 90 minutes I decided I wanted fish and chips, googled "best fish and chips Falmouth", found The Gem and had a meal which absolutely lived up to its promise. Lovely service, great food, exactly what was required.

After a day of being wet, then dry then wet again, the only to do was get some good chips. The Gem proved to be the place for it. Fish & Chips, & Battered sausage & chips, both absolutely perfectly cooked. Best batter anywher, very light & perfectly crispy. Staff really lovely, polite pleasant & smiley. Very good value as well. Although just here on a short break would absolutely come back again.

Went for fish & chips yesterday the staff didn't care made a mess of our order they seem to care more about phone orders and Uber deliveroo than customers in front of them will not be going back

Best chip shop in Falmouth. The batter is always crispy, the chips are like proper homemade chips, and the curry sauce has a kick. I love the warm welcome and the prices are good. Love Gem night!

Absolutely great cod and chips. Snow white cod and perfect chips. The young blonde lady serving was very friendly and helpful.

I must say, it was the best I've ever had. The nuggets were moist and the fries were freshly made. What stood out the most was the batter mix on the fish, it was just perfect. I highly recommend this place for anyone who wants to enjoy a delicious meal.

The Gem does the best chips in Falmouth in my opinion. There are a few good chippies in Fal too, Penmere and Old Hill worth a mention. The Gem pips it though, world class chips.

Cod bites were a bit too greasy, but fine. Other food was great. They also forgot a portion of chips (they offered to replace them. What good service). Very friendly though.

Amazing fish and chips! The batter was so light and crispy and the fish tasted delicious and fresh. I have coeliac disease and was fine with the gluten free option even tho I was advised that they were not coeliac accredited. The GF option was the best fish I have ever had! So tasty and fresh. Definitely recommend

Gluten free fish and chips with the added bonus of a naughty portion of onion rings - always gutted when I can't get them gf so thought go for it - they were well worth the calories 😀. The cod was pure white and thick and the chips were gorgeous. All the restaurant team were so attentive, giving our little dog some treats too so he didn't feel left out. Well worth a visit when you're in Falmouth. Thanks all, I've got a very full tummy this evening.

Stopped by after a shift for dinner and enjoyed a gorgeous meal, friendly staff saw to me quickly and I was surprised at the price and range of wine available at a chippy! Fish was juicy and full of flavour with a crunchy batter, couldn't have asked for better, will be a new regular!

I have been eating at this restaurant for years. It maintains its original way and vibe after the interior renovation, which made it much more vibrant and open to a larger sense of community. The price and amount is always a good deal. Short waiting time, small delivery fee, a variety of choices. I would highly recommend chicken nuggets, it has always been my final dish after a decent cod and chippy dinner. Also fish cakes are incredibly crispy! A must try if you are visiting.

Ate in last Friday and Saturday early evening while on holiday. Excellent large cod. Also homemade fishcakes, cheese and onion fritters and curry sauce all very tasty. Excellent service and plenty of tables. Seconds away from The Moor but off main drag so worth searching out.

The food, we had fish and chips, haddock, hake and also the drinks (including the Cornish Polgoon wine) were very tasty, the atmosphere was very nice and clean and Sean and Melanie were super friendly, we will remember the evening. Great fish and chips, with excellent service.

Pop in here now and again with my son for a sit down fish and chips. Easily the best around by a country mile. Fish is always perfection and chips are fantastic. Grab a curry sauce and buttered bap and the meal is complete. Waiting staff are attentive and make you feel so welcome. Don't bother going anywhere else, just get your fish and chip fix from The Gem Fishbar. You won't be disappointed.

Went last night for tea, even though it was late on, we still got greeted with a smile and made to feel welcome. Lovely restaurant spotlessly clean. Good choice of food and drinks, including alcohol. Food was delicious, fish was done to perfection. Highly recommend . Will be back for more.

Not one to do google reviews too often but we stumbled upon Gem Fish & Chips when the rain had started and the children needed dinner ASAP. A quick google and we decided to give it a try. We are so glad we did! The service from the moment we walked in was amazing. We had our small dog with us and they let us in out of the rain. The kids portions were amazing and the cod was so tasty. You can tell it was very fresh and cooked to perfection. My partner and I had the hake and it was my first time trying. It came at their recommendation and we're so glad we tried it. SO delicious. The curry sauce....holy moly. We are still thinking about it a week later Would recommend Gem Fish & Chips to anyone in or visiting Falmouth!

You MUST visit this amazing fish n chip shop. There is space to eat in too. The coeliacs were looked after so well. The manager took time to go through the menu and outline choices whilst being clear they are gluten free where possible but not accredited by coeliac association. All chips are gf, and all gluten free options are cooked in this fryer. Just amazing to be reassured and looked after. Absolutely delicious too. Hands down best gluten free fish n chips we have had.

You can eat very crispy and tasty fish & chips at a reasonable price here! Staff are friendly, and the place is clean and cosy with Cornish decorations. Even sparkling water is Cornish🐟 I feel the owner really loves Cornwall. I ordered small fish & chips but it still made me full.

Gem is a great name for this establishment as it is indeed a hidden gem! A little on the edge of town but well worth making the effort to find it. Food was great, we ate in and the service was exemplary and the price very competitive compared with some we've come across on our travels around the region. We will certainly be visiting again when we're in Falmouth.

The best gluten free fish and chips EVER! My wife's regular meal was also excellent. It was a little pricey, especially for January, but, hey, we were in Falmouth!

Greeted with a smile by a friendly waitress she took our order and it didn’t take long to arrive at the table even though there were a couple of delivery drivers waiting. Food was great and the service was also great. When we payed the owner came out and had a chat with us also very friendly. After searching for 2 days for the perfect place to enjoy some of Falmouth's best fish and chips, we finally found somewhere! And wow! The food was simply delicious! I'd highly recommend the Cod+Chips, Potato fitter, Curry sauce, and Tartar Sauce!! All reasonably priced! The whole experience was fantastic, the staff were warm and welcoming! The atmosphere there was great!! It was cozy, cute with decor to match! I think The Gem, is the perfect name, for such a perfect place. If you're around the area, you've got to pop in! Don't miss out!

What a wonderful 70th birthday celebration I had in this delightful location. The staff were super friendly and efficient and nothing was too much trouble for myself and thirty guests. We all thoroughly enjoyed our delicious fish and chip meals with various sides, and at a really favourable price. The decor is tastefully done and so fitting for a Cornish venue. Last night we decided to try the Gem fish and chip shop for evening meal, we ordered 2x extra large fish and chips curry sauce and peas, wow freshly cook and it was amazing the largest and best piece of fish that I have every had in Falmouth. The chips was fab crunchy and tasty, curry sauce and peas was just perfect to complement the meal, what can I say about then staff, I don’t usually mention staff on reviews but I have to on this occasion as they were just really great not pushy but I wish all staff in restaurants were as good. I can honestly say their fish and chips are the best in Falmouth, we’ve used the rest and now under new ownership have found the best. Well done to all at the Gem Fish and Chip Shop

Absolutely delicious, highly recommend this if you're in the area!!! The batter was light, crisp, and flavourful and the fish was flakey and tender. Finish the meal off with a pineapple fritter and vanilla ice cream and you're set.

Best fish and chips I have had in Cornwall, absolutely superb!

A no-nonsense, classic chippie with a lot of soul and some seriously good food. Fish was tender and juicy, encased in an impossibly light, tempura-like batter. Chips were made with equal care, crispy on the outside yet smooth and buttery on the inside. Their special curry sauce is a must-try.

He even gave us a free tub of his new signature gluten free curry sauce to try! DIVINE. Everything was cooked to perfection. The batter was crispy but not too fatty. The fish was flaky and so tasty. The chips were amazing. We ordered medium portions and they were huge. We even had leftovers for the next day. Even the price was fantastic! £8 for a medium cod and chips! My advice is go try The Gem Fish and Chips in Falmouth but check when they are open!!

Took the other half of for a nice fish& chips, but the usual place was closed. Have heard good things about the Gem recently so thought we would try it out. We weren't disappointed, as we were greeted with friendly service and good food. The fish and chips were great, and the missus had a veggie pie and chips, which got a thumbs up to! Definitely will be back for more soon!

The worse fish and chips I’ve ever had , and I’m 63 !! The batter on the fish was almost white and instead of being crispy, it was stodgy and the chips were mushy! 90 % of it went in the bin ! What a waste of money!!

Lovely folks! I wished for better tho, chips were dry and tasteless and the fish batter a little sloppy. For a chip shop these days though it wasn’t too badly priced ☺️
