Tool and Gauge Kitchen in Mendip

Look we all know that Yorkshire is best. Best for scenery, people, cricket, beer and places to eat. BUT and there is a but, Somerset might just have a contender for best restaurant, which for a Yorkshireman is hard to swallow if you pardon the pun. A former site of a manufacturing business, this clever joint eatery and office space combo has a vibe that is as good as it gets. Packed on a Friday morning with local oldies, business people and families we were served quickly and efficiently by happy smiley people who were on their game and looked genuinely pleased to be there. I settled for the Big Boy Breakfast which was perfectly cooked from what appeared to be good local suppliers. Mushrooms, beans, fried eggs, hash browns, sausage, bacon and toast all washed down with of course a pot of Yorkshire Tea. Bang on. Toilets worth visiting just for the fact that they were all neat and tidy with high end soaps giving the feeling of quality. Yes, an excellent place and one that is worth a visit if I am ever 257 miles from home again.

Staff excellent and very welcoming. A very popular place and a welcome addition to Frome. Lovely ambience and very good food BUT very upset to see the chef coming out the kitchen into the restaurant to get supplies from the freezer wearing really dirty whites. Very off putting and not at all good,

Found this place on Google maps as it was close to where we were going and what a find. I just wish we had come earlier and had lunch as the food looked great, the venue was really quirky & the staff all lovely. We will definately come here for a meal next time we are in Frome

Amazing venue. Great design. Fab food. Try the lamb dogs in bun or lettuce. Gf df requirements catered for. Go check out the loos. Everyone individually designed. Great friendly staff too. I go there lots. What’s not to like. Drive thru available too.

Excellent coffee and really lovely staff. The space is open and airy but also warm and inviting. Menu was varied and of a high quality with plenty of healthy options as well treats. They offer a takeaway and a drive through service as well which is really handy. Establishment is extremely clean. Highly recommend!

I come here regularly as the food and portion sizes are good. However the Food takes a long time to arrive and nearly every time I’ve been here we have to wait for something that is still cooking or something on the order is forgotten resulting in it arriving when everyone’s finished eating. I don’t understand how it takes 45 minutes to wait for a sausage roll. They either need to employ more staff or stop the drive throughs as I believe this is resulting in the restaurant customers being forgotten about. Staff also need better customer service and allergen training. A real shame as the food is nice.

I came here from a recommendation from a business on the estate that i came to visit to upgrade their CCTV security cameras,im a travelling business security consultant who travels the whole country from Leicester southwards. I sample quite a few English breakfasts along the way and quite simply this is the best I've tried,i asked for my bacon extra well done (snappable) is how i describe it,it came back just how i like it,the beans along with the rest of the breakfast was piping hot,proper farmhouse sausage,hash brown,mushrooms,grilled tomato,2 thick slices of toast and the fried eggs were amazing,yellower that the sun and crispy round the edges yummy...Washed down with a beautiful blueberry,banana and coconut smoothie. pleasant staff,great decor,clean and tidy.. My best fry up in memory,keep up the great work ladies and gents. Gary Hall

What a treat! Our car was in for a service at one of the local garages so we considered walking to Sainsburys. However, on our way we came across this lovely venue and decided to stop for some coffee. This then led to us looking at the menu and to trying some of the breakfast items. Delicious pancakes and breakfast roll. Great value for money. Great, friendly service, lovely coffee and fabulous food. We will be telling our friends and will be back for more.

I am new to being dairy free and am always nervous ordering food at new places… the staff where so friendly and helpful. Almost everything on their menu can be made either dairy free or gluten free and have a large variety of cakes to choose from which also accommodate these requirements. Will definitely be returning with friends and would highly recommend to anyone.

We stayed at a local hotel that did not provide food so we made contact with Tool and Gauge Kitchen after a recommendation from the hotel, a great range of food on the menu; delivered on time to our hotel garden; it was all still hot and we were surprised by the quality and quantity of the food. If we lived near you it would be a regular treat - thanks for helping us to enjoy our weekend away with the family

A really convenient place to stop with wonderful food, excellent attentive staff and the industrial chic style works. When TripAdvisor told us it was on an industrial estate we wavered, but there was no need.

I'm a regular visitor since this is one of my favourite places in Frome. A great place to catch up on some work on a laptop whilst enjoying excellent coffee and a distinctive range delicious food (try the lamb meatballs wth salad). It's not McDonalds, thank God, so don't expect lightning fast service. Instead enjoy a chat with the friendly staff and enjoy the light, warm and peaceful ambience.

First time visitor for late brunch today, venue, atmosphere, food, staff and experience all excellent! Cannot recommend enough! Now we’ve found you, we will become regulars.

My daughter and I love T & G. This is where we chose to spend our special mum and daughter time together. Staff are great, dogs welcome and smoothies delicious.

The food was excellent and freshly cooked. Coffees also excellent. The only thing I would say very slow service. We were in no hurry , not a problem for us. Staff were great. Toilets spotless! Will be back again soon!

We had to wait 20 mins for smoothie, a coffee, a tuna salad sandwich & poached eggs on toast. Really good, freshly made food in a friendly, relaxed, & clean environment. Can't fault it! Have been before and will definitely go again :)

Wow, just wow. Ordered take out through just eat. The burgers and chips were so fresh and so flavoursome. The milkshakes we cold and fresh and delightful. I honestly cannot reccommend them enough. Expecially for the good price!

A bright, friendly and welcoming atmosphere, with an eclectic range of ever changing foods to tickle your fancy, while still maintaining trusty comforting dishes like Fish & Chips on a Friday. The fact they now offer drive thru as well - who could complain?!

I went there for lunch. Lovely place with plenty of light. The staff was very friendly and helpful and the lamb they recommended was just so delicious. Will definitely return when I visit the area again.

I have eaten here four or five times and each time the food has been spectacularly good. I don't eat gluten or dairy and this restaurant had no problems with my dietary requirements. The service has always been prompt and nothing less that excellent.

This is a lovely and clear place to sit and have a chat while eating (gluten- and dairy free) or have a drink. Food and Service are extraordinary yummy. Great for meetings or just for a quick lunch. Also 'take away' possible. We loved it.

Can't recommend the new Tool & Gauge Kitchen highly enough. Everything about it is top class - the service and staff are great, the food tastes great and is amazing value, and the coffee is some of the best around.

Popped in for a catch up with work friends and had the fruity nutter smoothie, was so tasty! Smoothie is filled right to the top of the cup and took a few minutes to make, can’t wait to come back again :)
