Outdoor terrace smelt like fish for some reason. Went for cocktails which were closer to lime and soda’s than a cocktail. Seen this place had good reviews but was left very disappointed. Wouldn’t go back.

went solo to pass the time, drinks were decently priced for midnight bar and the bartender (believe called Francis) was super friendly and made the experience v nice, would definitely recommend

I was a little old for the ambience, but I could tell it was a great place to meet cool people and find that special someone for either of the sides. The security were trained well, the bar staff were decent, all in all, it was a cool place to be.

A bar focused on younger clientele. It was early evening and very quiet but it gets very busy the bar staff told me. friendly and talkative as the bar was quiet Another area above the ground floor is also available were there is dancing (?) Very unique Japanese decor style I think I will leave it too the younger generation 🔥👍

Tokyo is amazing..the cocktails are fantastic, the bar staff are amazing and the aesthetic of the place is brilliant too. The doorman with the sleeve tattoos is particularly nice. He looks very strong and attractive. He is a credit to whatever company he works for and Tokyo should be proud to have him. He deserves a wage increase. I love the tattooed doorman

Don't bother with the website as they have an updated menu. Very nice, clean and niche place. Yes, there's an upstairs bar and the staff seem new. Hardly know anything about Japanese Culture or how to pronounce the names of the drinks.

Always a good bar for a night out, drinks are fairly pricy but worth the atmosphere.

Great place, good vibe, good staff. Two floors of drinking with the feature being the top open air floor (old school smoking permitted). Friendly place, relaxed. Gets pretty rammed on a Saturday night. Prices fair/decent.

Cocktails are great and music is brilliant.

I arrived at approx 8pm and was told I couldn't enter as I was wearing cargo shorts due to dress code. I then went back at 10pm wearing same cargo shorts as im up for the night and was told it was fine and I could enter. I guess they then needed the clientèle.

I feel like the club should have a paper option of the track and trace app. As it is rather discriminatory to those who do not have a smart phone. Would be great to be more inclusive.

Unfriendly staff, threatening bouncers who are unreasonable. Would never go again.

Terrible staff, awful security and overall terrible experience. Put in a corner and when we asked to move upstairs the bouncers started being more derogatory and threatening, calling members of my group speccy and fat and offering to fight on the street.

Great spot in new castle. The second floor with indoor terrace makes this place unique

We had such a good time in Tokyo bar - good drinks well priced, interesting cocktails with plenty of variety, absolutely recommended !! Menu can be folded into cute origami which is so fun. Good tunes too. Lovely and friendly service - we will be back!

Normalmente me encanta aquí. Después de un día de ir a diferentes bares y sentirnos realmente seguros (todos con máscaras caminando, desinfectantes, etc.) vinimos aquí. Tan ocupado, sin distanciamiento social, grupos, gente caminando sin máscaras. La bebida era horrible y aguada para 8 también. Merecen ser apagados. Molesto porque me escaneé aquí y lo más probable es que reciba una notificación para aislarme a sí mismo debido a su incompetencia.

Teniendo en cuenta todo lo que está sucediendo en este momento, el personal de Tokio es brillante en la gestión y el mantenimiento de las restricciones y, al mismo tiempo, te hace sentir que todo ha vuelto a la normalidad. Gritarle a Gregg que nos estaba sirviendo a mí y a mi socio, un servicio absolutamente increíble y no podía agradecerle lo suficiente lo útil que fue. Le preguntamos si podíamos mover asientos para salir a la terraza, pero debido a las reglas, no pudo dejarnos, ya que era para grupos más grandes, lo cual era totalmente comprensible y se disculpó y se mostró profesional al respecto. En general, excelente servicio al cliente y una de las razones por las que sigo volviendo a este excelente bar. . . . . además la música es genial?

Me and my partner had such a good night here 25/09/20 We were seated on seats not so great, just facing a wall, but our bartender (Gregg) looked after us well. My partner enjoys this bar a lot and even though there are restrictions, he still enjoyed himself.

Busy modern clean looking bar on two levels with an area for smokers, I was in Friday night and most of the people looked between 18 to 30. Good atmosphere.

Such cool atmosphere and awesome cocktails. Loved the vibe. This was my second time going there, and it will not be the last !

Enjoy the rooftop terrace bar with live DJs, drinks quite expensive with a lot of younger revellers.

I tried to use my card to buy a pint and was told that I had to spend at least a fiver by the dead eyed barman. It was £4.60 for the lager and he suggested I give £5. I declined and decided to leave,but not before i used their facilities,where I was offered cocaine by the miscreants that inhabit this bar. Never again.

My daughter booked this for her 21st birthday. The staff were helpful and no 'pressure selling' of drinks packages which she had from a couple of other bars. On the night the bar staff were fab and very friendly. We all had a fabulous evening.

Visited Tokyo because I was on freshers for uni, I'm a local lad so all my favourite places were full so took a chance on this place, with it being tucked away near Madame Koos, House of Smith etc. It was quiet, the bars staff are well trained and nice and the music was alright, it's an okay little place maybe for pres wouldnt stay there all night though

Interesting bar in the Station end of town. Camden Pale on draft is a winner and it has a great roof terrace for al fresco boozing. Attracts a younger crowd.

Since place to chill, drink and food was great. I wrote this review after almost 2 years from going there.... I do remember the place, this shows how awesome the place.

Called in for Cocktails before moving on for the evening, it was very cold and lacked atmosphere, however the cocktails were very good and reasonably priced, staff were friendly.

literally this bar is absolutely incredible staff members are all incredible and amazing people if you do ever go just ask for a 'Slip way' this drink as i was told is a good kick in the teeth and well it does pack a punch everybody who does go into newcastle i fully recommend to visit this bar

Really cool bar with a good atmosphere and great tunes. There's an outside heated terrace upstairs where the dj box is, making this one my favourite bars in Newcastle.

popped in here on a Saturday night before a meal for a cocktail Drinks were good! There is a roof terrace but we didn't go up there as it was a cold evening. Have been up there before and it is like a garden area - nice in summer. Like it here - nice decor and good atmosphere.

It's dead. The upstairs bar is wrong. The staff new staff are wrong. If you remember the old Tokyo.....Well. It's dead. So are you. Forget about it.

Nice venue next to central station with really good electronic music. There are two bars one downstairs and another on the top floor next to the open roof terrace. The open space serves as a smoking area. The drinks are fairly priced but there's a good selection of cocktails. You can even book a coctail master class for more than 6 people. Really nice venue to start your night. It gets busy around 2330-2400. The staff is really friendly and I really like the Japanese inspired decoration on the wall.

Really interesting bar and layout. Good music and cocktails. Open pretty late too, if memory serves. Sadly, those good cocktails make it hard for me to truly remember, but it was a great night out, so well worth a visit.

Bar Tokyo has become a regular haunt among my friends and I whenever we go into town. It has fantastic cocktails, recently refurbished, amazing roof terrace, good music and great staff.

We booked a cocktail masterclass for a friends hen party and it was fab!! The range of cocktails available to make was so extensive and suited everyone’s taste. The area we had reserved was ideal for the large party and allowed us all to chat in between making drinks. The bar staff were very attentive and made sure the party kept moving as with 19 of us it could easily have become a bit samey. Well done and if anyone is looking for somewhere different to try I’d defo give Tokyo a try.

I visited with a friend on Thursday and all cocktails were priced at £5. The bar staff were great fun, helpful and friendly. The bar itself has a great terrace upstairs with a DJ and is really nicely decorated. I would recommend for anyone in the city looking for cocktails.

Popped in here for a few drinks after a busy day. Upstairs we found a small bar, but a cool feature was the back of the seating area opened up directly into an enclosed outside seating/smoking area. This merged the outside & inside areas and kinda made you feel how pubs used to be before the smoking ban came in. There was also a DJ booth outside and we found the music was so loud we couldnt hear what eachother was saying without shouting! Still, the drinks were nice and we stayed for a while before venturing elsewhere.

Recent refurb has improved the internal layout and the new look is sharp and stylish. Quite expensive limited beer selection but cocktails are what you'd visit here for

The DJ is in a box that looks like a serving hatch. Thought the DJ was going to start churning out burger and chips. Lots of tables and no atmosphere anymore.no DJ downstairs. Part of the reason people would go there would be to dance. The bar is in the wrong place upstairs. The staff are nice. But for a Saturday night it was very poor. This bar needs to have another a redesign for the purpose it was meant for.Went here last June 2017 before we went to a gig, it was perfect.

I went for a night out with my work colleagues, we had a fabulous night. The bar staff are lovely so friendly and helpful. The decor is tr stunning, loved the red glossy Japanese style. I went to look at the outdoor terrace but it was packed, I shall have to visit again the next time that I am in Newcastle for a night out. The recent refurbishment was well worth whatever it cost, it is my favourite bar in Newcastle, very central and easy to get to.

Poor cocktail menu, empty downstairs, full of youngsters upstairs smoking. Was a bit grotty and has gone downhill. A shame as it used to be fab.

This place was recommended to me by my manager, and I’m so glad I went! I honestly didn’t know this place existed, and now I’m so glad to know about it, and to have been. They do some exquisite cocktails, and I myself picked from the Gin category, and never went wrong. They also have Rum, Vodka, and another that I can’t quite remember, but if you’re wanting a chilled night, Monday is the day to go, as my cocktails were £5, and really you can’t honestly go wrong with that. Also shoutout to the bar staff, I think the young lady was called Danielle, but I never got the guys name. They both had my friend and I laughing hysterically! So thank you for an awesome chilled night! Also if you’re partial to a terrace in summer, they have one! It’s a wonderful little place, give it a go if you’re around!

Great place to spend your free time with your friends. Although sometimes it is hard to find a free place to sit, a bit crowded. Cocktails and the roof makes it a must if you are considering what to visit in Newcastle.

One of the best bars in Newcastle. The upstairs terrace is a must, although can be very busy especially in the summer. The clientele is variable and can sometimes be too Geordie Shore, which detracts from the fact that the bar and music (usually house) are usually of good quality.

Always a good atmosphere over the weekend in Newcastle. And lives up to the expectation of a fun weekend in Newcastle. Nice new decor. I have been coming for years while visiting friends and family! Lovely solero cocktail. Yum!

We’ve been to Newcastle a couple of time recently and always head for Tokyo because the cocktails are delicious, especially Drop in the Ocean. The bar downstairs is quirky and atmospheric but it’s the lovely roof bar that makes it special. All heated and enough seats to go round.

Always start off here. Atmosphere is good, drinks are good, the crowd is good and the music is great.

Good night out reasonable priced drinks

Querky place, upstairs is more outside than in. Always busy but provides the great atmosphere. I would definitely recommend visiting here for a few on a night out. Especially on a weekend this place get a really busy and they open up the downstairs area. Upstairs is great, especially with the outdoor furniture but be warned, if you are a non smoker then you might not enjoy it as it is where all the smokers spend their time.
