We didn’t have much time so rather than go ti RMT Kitchen where our friends said parking is a nightmare, they suggested we hit Toby. We were seated and drink orders were taken and then nothing more happened so eventually I went over to a waitress and ordered the Ultimate Roast Dinner Sandwich for our son (just some carvery stuff in a roll or pud basically), and carvery for the two of us. We went to get it, meat was cold as well as most of the veg, and the sandwich never came. After about 20 minutes we asked for it and it had obviously been forgotten so she rushed off and got us an Ultimate Roast Beef Sandwich which is just some beef and gravy slapped on a roll. Honest misunderstanding so no big deal. We asked for a replacement, she took away the tray, manager showed to to ask about our issue, both said it would be sorted, again nothing for another 20 minutes, and we had to ask yet one more time to get a sandwich that was sloppy, but too hot to touch, and a bowl of cold gravy. Desert was fine, but the custard with the apple pie was again a tongue burner (nuked maybe?). When time to pay came, none of this had apparently discouraged the waitress from asking for a tip. She was lucky we were leaving that day and there to burn off no longer needed GBP so she got wholly underserved 6 quid for her efforts. Overall we lost more time waiting than it would have taken us as per our friends to find parking near RMT Kitchen, and the food was absolutely not worth it.

Hi have ordered around 20+ times for delivery and usually get the carveries with pigs in blankets and a cake but almost always (i would approximate 70% of the time) one of these two options is missing and I have to get refunded for them. I don't know if this is because they are addons to a standard carvery and your order system doesn't process this well or if your packers are lazy. Leaving this review as there was a thank you for your order or code to leave feedback so I presume this is an issue you've identified however the "your order was packed by" section funnily didn't have a name on it to allow you to track this through.

Came here for dinner and drinks, and we can't recommend it enough! Hot food and clean although very busy. A shout out to the young red haired woman we think her name was Hanna, who seemed to be doing everything on her own! Rushed off her feet but friendly and polite and still maintained an air of professionalism- a real asset to the company so please give her our praise

The system was down when I tried to book. We got there and a young lady at reception was happy to find us a table. She asked a young man (slim, blond, tattoos around 20) if table 39 was a table for 2 and he just rudely looked at her like she was nothing and asked us if we had been served. We said yes, the lady on front of us is serving us and she asked him again if 39 was a table for 2. He said it was like she was thick and off we went. It wasn't as it was set for a large party so she re seated us. No problem at all. Again, whilst we were queuing for carvery, the same boy was raising his voice at the bar staff and basically be littling them. It was awful to see. I really wanted to publicly review this so he might be ashamed of his behaviour and think before he opens his mouth in future. Unfortunately the staff don't wear name badges but he will know who he is being on reception at 4.25pm on 26/08/24. The food was lovely and fresh and hot by the way and all the other staff couldn't have been friendlier! It won't put us off going but he certainly didn't make our meal pleasant.

I have not been to toby carvery for years and now I know why. So disappointing. Had roast beef wrap. It was chewy and hard to cut. Not much gravy so very dry. Roast potato’s were cold dry and black. Staff did bring more and they were better but still really dry. Will not be going back again.

Wanted breakfast so rocked up here. Staff welcoming and friendly.lovely decor. sadly this was to much disappointment as when I got to the counter the black pudding looked dry but I will always try. The hash browns were the same and the eggs on offer had hard yolks like bullets. When I looked around plates with the same left. I did feel the best thing was the sausages and the tomatoes. Such a shame. I visit lots of Toby’s. I soo feel that what was on offer was dry not eatable. If it was my counter I would not have that sat there pass it’s best. Also the whole time from arrival there were a stack of plates on my table never moved over an hour.

Friendly greeting from the staff on the till but the person serving behind the carvery was not customer centric at all and it seemed like she did not want to be there. When asking for toast was told I could only one white slice and have one brown or would have to wait a ‘while’ for white toast. Then someone came out of the kitchen with a pile of brown toast, carrying it in his bare hands (is that really the best idea during COVID times?) . The hash browns were soggy and did not look like they should be on display. We were pressured into sharing a plate for our toast (as were other guests) even though we asked for a plate each. Everything we asked for seem like it was too much trouble for her. The one white slice of toast I did get must have been on the hot plate for for too long as it would not cut, just shattered! The rest of the food was OK but the customer service was a huge let down.

Went for a Birthday Breakfast today 24 June. What a disappointment that was, scramble egg advertised on menu and get there and low and behold you guessed right. None to be had…. Ended up with beans, tomatoes, 4 mushrooms a hash brown which was horrid.. and two slices cold toast.(£4.99) Took breakfast back to be re heated as all was cold.Soz but won’t be having that again.,,I know people are trying to get back to normal due to covid but don’t advertise something if you cannot serve it..

First visit back here since the opening from covid. Booking and getting table was all decent no problems. The breakfast was average wasn't the warmest and the toast was like chewing a brick. Couldn't help but notice the high chair my daughter was sat in was not the cleanest of things which in this day and age is not ideal. Fair play to the bloke going round cleaning the windows. Feel it's gone down hill a fair bit which is a shame as we used it a fair bit, we did have a booking coming up but cancelled as we don't think it's a clean place especially with current situations.

This place is great if you're craving a sunday lunch fix, although there are dissappointment factors to consider.Roast potatoes are not crispy, and instead seem to be more jacket 'waxy',Meat seems to be under more strict rationing. I'm sure I used to get more cuts of meat on my plate back in t'day. Not even upgrading to the bigger plate gets you more cuts... bit of a con. It hurts to see the guy in front of the que get the same amount of meat as you, and he has the regular plate. It makes you think twice about ''upgrading'' in future.Beef cuts are like russian roulette. Some cuts are decent, some cuts are gristly. You never know what you're gonna get.Because of this, I've learn't to limit the dissappointment risk, and instead just opt for the turkey only. At least it's always a decent cut.Apart from that, table service is spot on, and decent pricing.

We have been several times at the weekend but we received a 50% off voucher for midweek so decided to go. Due to current restrictions you have to book of course and its a lot quieter because of reduced capacity. But for a two or three roast carvery which between 3 of us cost 20 quid including drinks and refills you can't go wrong. Yes you can't help yourself now but our plates were full to bursting and the food was hot. All in all excellent value and it won't be long before we go again.

It’s really not good , over priced with , quantity issues on the meat and chips on the meat servers shoulder , I asked for the waste burnt bits instead of the fresh meat and I was totally ignored, , twice I asked twice ignored , I wasn’t asking for any more than the miniature portions we have come to expect , refills are a joke , catch someone if you can , they are making a killing on that one . Veg was good as was the guy serving it , just the one meat server that must have shares , or was sleep working all in all given this place 3 try’s since Covid will try a different one next time so disappointed every time and wish I’d read the reviews first

We have always been regular visitors to the Toby Carvery Huddersfield, but NEVER AGAIN, I appreciate times have changed, but it has now become overpriced, and poorer quality. My family and I visited on the 5th Oct, we had 4 carveries (1 XL)...3 glasses Coke, and 1 medium glass of wine which came to £58.05. The Beef was tough as old boots, and that stringy we all left it, we got a small spoon full mash, and couple roast, (pre-covid would put more on the plate). On 9th Oct we visited Da Sandro`s restaurant which is much higher standard only couple hundred metres down the road, all had a beautiful pizza, 3 glasses Coke, and a BOTTLE wine, for £59.19....Da Sandros was a MILLION times nicer, the meal was gorgeous, staff friendlier, nicer environment etc...Good Bye Toby

Carvery now served by waitress. Lukewarm meal arrived on cold plates. Meals refused and new meals served. The portions were child portions size, meat pieces rather than slices, definitely the worst TC meal weve ever experienced. To make matter worse, all meals served to other diners were piled high as expected in the carvery. We were charged full price for this.Coffees were served by the handles with saucers left on table with sugar. If cups hand been on the saucers and placed in front of us no cross contamination would have occurred. We wont be returning until self service is resumed. Very disappointed

Visited with my family and whilst the food was ok,one of the chef's who I will describe as "the tattooed one" as I didn't see or take note of a name badge, who was serving with another chef was incredibly arrogant and very rude. Many of the customers were elderly and we witnessed him reprimanding an elderly gentleman in a verbally aggressive manner who he must have felt was leaning too close towards him,the poor fella looked startled and actually apologised but he probably couldn't hear the exceptionally unpleasant chef properly. Following this he continued to talk in a patronising and abrupt manner to the older customers in the que as they were being served but was noticeably "creepy" when addressing the younger female customers, using words like "darling, sweetheart,my love" etc. If we ever choose to dine there again and he is working,we will walk straight back out. We observed a very poor advert for Toby Carvery & just appalling customer service from this serving chef in particular !!

The service provided by Emma at the table was exceptional and her colleague Rebecca on the door was brilliant. Rebecca managed to seat us within 15 minutes of arriving as a walk in despite it being busy and remained friendly and charming throughout. Emma was also full of smiles and explained how the carvery was working. She also kept an eye on our table without being intrusive so plates were cleared quickly and she also checked we were enjoying our meal.So then.. The reason for the reviews title..! We both had carvery and having both worked in hospitality and one of us being a chef, the presentation of the food left a lot to be desired. Whilst everything was hot, having food literally slopped on to the plate in a pile did not leave a nice looking feast for the eyes. The assumption that we wanted a bit of everything - 3 roasties on the plate before being asked if I even wanted them and being given a yorkie, again without being asked. Everything else just slopped on - veg and gravy. There are no sauces such as white sauce/horseradish/redcurrant etc as normal but I've assumed this is due to covid19 restrictions.Overall rating would have been higher if the carvery servers could have cracked a smile!

Reasonably priced carvery which isn’t particularly offensive.Main issue was being served gone off milk (it had obviously curdled) and a change of rules from the proceeding day about where people should sit with food from beside the bar to a quiet table in the resteraunts looking at who’s coming in and out of the building.. I was first given two teas despite ordering one by a male member of staff with glasses this was rectified. The gone off milk had a sugary taste to it and shouldn’t of been served nor could the staff identify why that particular milk had curdled at the bottom of a jug. They get a rating of three stars for the milk incident.

I have been here a few times since it opened again. It’s great. I must say I feel very very sorry for the staff here, you would think everyone in the world had forgotten what has a happened in terms of covid across the world. The place has changed so much from what it was last year but it had too and I see people not understanding. They have less tables meaning they get full easier than ever before, however when people are told it’s fully booked they hurl abuse at the staff. They have had to change so that the chef puts food on for you so people don’t touch thing, when people are told they are annoyed they can’t get there own. They have a que system in place and you have to stand in certain places, when people are told they complain they have to stand in certain places and also complain when people are not stood on the spots... Come on people we are all grown ups and shouldn’t have to be told how to que. and lastly they have a limited menu, the same as every where these days and people complain they can’t pick eveything. Get a grip! These staff work hard and have been through a lot. Show some respect! Thank you so much Huddersfield staff. I appreciate you all and all the hard work you do and I’m sorry some people are to self absorbed to see how hard you work

I understand that due to the Covid restraints, menus at some restaurants have been trimmed down. I usually have pork with stuffing, apple sauce, etc but it wasn't available there was Beef Turkey or Gammon. I just cannot understand what made me choose Beef because I've had beef at Toby Carvery before and it's horrible it's either fatty or it's tough and today it was tough.Anyway apart from the meat and temperature of the food it was sort of ok but not a fantastic experience. On paying the bill I asked the waitress what the likelihood might be of pork being put back on the menu in future and she said to me she didn't know why it wasn't on but maybe be it could be to do with cost. Anyway when we left the restaurant my friend who is a chef in a school kitchen said to me that cost is not an issue with Pork and I know myself that Lamb and Beef are more expensive so what the waitress said to me didn't seem right at all.Anyway hopefully when we visit at the end of October we will have a better experience.

Staff and food good however given the current pandemic, especially in a local lockdown area, I was surprised to see no masks or visors on ANY staff(even those serving the food). No details taken for track and trace. No hand gel on arrival, only by the carvery. I understood there is no gov rules stating they should, however given other restaurants ( both large and small) measures, I was expecting it. There was social distancing marks on floor however this relies on folk actually taking notice - which 50% don't. Not sure we would have visited if we knew about the lack of covid "measures " in place.

Ordered it for 1.30 pm and I arrived just after 25 past ..you would think that orders would be easier to pick up rather than getting stuck in a line for the restaurant..the line is not managed by the staff, there were kids (and adults) not social distancing...once i got to the front there were 3 bags at the bar already (so order not kept warm) once I arrived back home we opened the food to find whilst there was plenty of it...it wasn't what we ordered (we had ordered gammon, beef and turkey on each, we just got one meat on instead) it seemed a shame as was looking forward to it but it was cold and fatty...will not be ordering takeaway again.

Has to be the dirtiest place ive ever eaten. Go to Toby at Dodworth and its lovely but Huddersfield.........its disgusting. Went up for breakfast and had to move about 6 plates to find a clean one. The breakfast gravy had a thick black crust on it. Sausages totally shriveled up. No eggs........ somebody brought those, put them behind the empty tray, left it and didn't say a word........sorry for your wait would have been nice ! Sat down with breakfast and my husband found a hair in the potato hash - nobody asked if meal was ok. Eventually somebody collected my husband's full plate, i told them about the hair and they said oh sorry and walked off. Decided to have toast as meal was so bad.........4 times i put the bread through before it browned, no plates, asked, they came out again no apology. I couldn't have jam as the bowl was full of butter and crumbs. Finally went for our drinks, my coffee was stone cold. Took it back and asked for a clean cup for fresh coffee, i got the cup but no apology ! Decided to put in a complaint but had no receipt for a number. Went to till and said i wanted to complain but had no receipt, got given till number but manager never asked what my complaint was ! DISGUSTING, RUDE, DIRTY !

Service isn’t to complain about as they typically don’t have to do much compared to a normal restaurant if that makes sense. My first ever visit to this well appointed establishment midway between Huddersfield & Halifax affording panoramic views of the surrounding area. My friend & I both opted for the carvery -excellent value at just £7.29- and it certainly satisfied our appetites after a bracing walk around nearby Ogden Water. The only complaint about the carvery was having to wait by the counter for 5 minutes for the server to appear who had to be told by another member of staff to attend to us. There was a choice of Pork, Gammon, Turkey & Lamb along with a wide choice of roast/mash potatoes and a plethora of delicious vegetables with giant sized Yorkshire puddings as well with dishes of piping hot beef gravy or vegetable gravy for those that prefer that. I chose Turkey & Gammon which were both well cooked and tasty while the roast potatoes, especially, were excellent. A special mention, as a non drinker, for the wide range of soft drinks on offer. I opted for a newly introduced drink called Strawberry Fields, a refreshing arrangement of Strawberry, Cucumber, Mint Fruit & Lime Soda, probably a bit overpriced at £2.50 but very refreshing when served with ice. There are also Apple, Rasberry & Rose Premium drinks on offer as well as the normal arrangements of coke, lemonade, orange juice, etc. My friend opted for his normal J2o but he was served with the wrong flavour which I'm sure would have been corrected if it had been pointed out. All this for under £20 which in today's market goes down as excellent value. I would imagine this is a place that gets very busy at weekend, especially Sunday, but even for a chilly Monday lunchtime, there were plenty of diners making the most of the cheap eats on offer. As well as the carvery, the menu hosts a wide range of other dining options including a bargain priced offer of two starters for £4.99 which we did not take advantage of as the carvery option more than satisfied our healthy appetites.

Certainly improved since the last visit however .... is it so hard to present bacon that is cooked on both sides and not congealed together with oozing water and grease ?Why if you have chefs available are they not able to cook someone a “edible egg” instead of the hard cooked bullets that are on the Carvery ?

We visited Toby carvery earlier this year. The service was quite good but the food was if poor quality. The vegetables are overcooked and the roast potatoes are often burnt and chewy. The gravy is not always hot. Good cheap prices but the drinks tend to be a bit on the pricey side.

Visited for the first time on a Saturday at 2pm, I thought it would have been quieter than it was, we had pre booked so we were seated straight away, a great start, but that was the best we were going to get. We needed to order a vegetarian meal, a kids meal and a mix of starters and 2 carverys, we waited ages before flagging a waitress down to Oder the stuff, the vegetarian Yorkshire pudding was ordered with only the Yorkshire pudding and sausage as hubby likes to help himself to the vegetables off the Carvery

Got sat down by the the lovely Caroline who was the general manager sat in a young man called Jordan’s area food spot on he has a shining personality and had a giggle with our young son , unfortunately one gent kicked off effing and blinding as Jordan had refused service to his I think girlfriend as she didn’t have id when ordering a baileys , Jordan remained calm and didnt let this man phase and intimidate him one bit he remained professional and reassured the lady no offence but it is our policy I. They decided to leave thank god when they eventually left Jordan was all smiles we were jus shocked at what had happened but he went round every single table apologising for what just happened , jus thought I’d leave a little bit of feedback and hope all staff can take a leaf out of his book and be as professional as he was

Never let's you down! You want fast food but none of that High Street nonsense? Toby is always the answer. I also discovered the mobile App so we could book a table in advance and unlock some exceptional App discounts. Arrived early tea-time so avoided the rush. Staff friendly, approachable, efficient and all round excellent. Food super, great choice of meats and vegetables. What's not to love?

The carvery is nice but you can be queuing for around 10 minutes if it is busy. So pick your times. Staff are polite and friendly despite not being able to read the reservation names. We go for sentimental family reasons and staff previously have been very good at giving us 'our table'

Me and my partner heard about the 40% off mains offer and decided to go for tea. It's a good job we booked as it was HEAVING. We were greeted by Lisa who was very welcoming and pleasant, we were early so we waited around 20 mins for our table which was fine. There were people queueing/waiting for tables all over the bar area which Lisa seemed to work with very well, she was organised with the tables and seated everyone asap.

Booked online and gave menu choices. When we arrived we were kept waiting for our pre-booked table. We were informed after waiting half an hour that our on line order had not been received due to their IT system not working properly, so we had to reorder with a waitress. We had to wait a while for the starters to arrive and the staff were disinterested that we had had an issue with the booking. To be fair though the food was excellent and the waitress that attended our table did her best to make up for our issue with the booking and was very attentive. Will not stop us going back.

So ...what do you expect for just over a tenner,...what we we got was OK, made better by the attentive and friendly staff (although one of our party (male) got a little bit twitchy by being called 'lovey' by one of the members of staff (male),,,but in MHI he worked his socks off that night. Starters of mushrooms, for me were poor, solid mushrooms no sauce. Pate served with rubbish bread. Mains...low quality fish on the salmon course, for me carvery...what you expect slices of uninteresting meat and veg. The staff were amazing, the food was ...average...some looked as though they loved it, but then again their plates were piled to the ceiling and the Christmas Jumpers were stretched across their size 22 bodies....if you want quantity over quality, or quick value no frills for a meal out its OK....(as long as you drink Doom Bar Ale)...no other ales on hand pulled.

Having worked at this Toby for 4 years, but left due to change in policy a few years ago, I have to disagree with a review on here from 12th October. The suggestion that food left over from the day before is re-heated and served the following day is simply not true. Everything - sometimes full, large joints of meat, is discarded for animal feed in special containers. It's a carvery - and the format means that the quality of the food does actually vary, depending on what time you go to the counter. But food is NEVER re-heated. Even if it were allowed as company policy (which it isn't,) the manager at this Toby is top notch, and wouldn't dream of allowing it. Personally I'm not a fan of 'all you can eat' establishments at all, for different reasons - but I couldn't allow this review to go unchallenged: it was undeserved.

We've always been a little wary of carveries, as anywhere that food is standing waiting to be served gives it opportunity to spoil, but - on a thoroughly busy Thursday evening - there was no opportunity for that to happen.

From start to finish his interaction with our 2 children was amazing, they had so much fun and nothing was too much trouble. Thank you so much.

Visited Huddersfield restaurant as the local one close to my home closed for refurbishment. Booked a table which I would recommend as quite busy. Seated and shown to table. Asked what Drinks we’d like and brought quickly. A little queue for the carvery but moved quickly. Meat was nice and good choice of vegetables. Served by heather who was attentive. Polite and friendly and approached table at the right times. Would recommend to couples friends or families meet up but again recommend booking table

I appreciate that the pub is going to be busy on a Sunday but come on...poor management. We didn't hook and was told it would be a 20 min wait. Not a problem as we could have a drink at the bar. That's where it went down hill. By the time we got served our table was ready. And it did take 20 mins. We were seated just off the bar area by the manager. The wife had to wipe the old food from her chair whilst hhd waitress stood by and blamed her manager for not cleaning it. Another 10 mins went by and still menus came till we asked again. The queue for the buffet was worse than Disneyland in Summer. We ended up leaving before getting our food. The place was shocking. Horrendous and never again will we go.

This particular Toby can get very busy so I always book for a specific date and time. The staff are polite and helpful and in general you can be served quite quickly. The menu is extensive and includesee some delicious vegetarian options. One of my personal favouritestatement is the mushroom and ale pie. The cavery area can get get very busy and whilst there is a considerable selection ofor food on offer, on my last visit there appeared to be only one person doing everything, which resulted in quite a wait while meat and vegetables ere replenished. Prices are very reasonable and if you download the app there are special offers available. Overall an enjoyable meal in spite of the extended wait on this occasion.

We are regular visitors to the Toby Carvery, but usually visit Chadderton in Oldham, this time for a change we went to Huddersfield. We won’t be back in a hurry. The meat was inedible, the beef couldn’t be cut or chewed, the vegetables were lukewarm, and they ran out of the main ingredient of a roast dinner - Yorkshire puddings. At that point all service stopped. The two behind the carvery counter were as miserable as sin, the queue was growing, more Yorkshires came out and they decided to stop serving and tidy up. Surely someone from the kitchen could have come out and done that as the queue was so long. Eventually we got our meat and began to select our veg, of which I have to say there was a good selection, the carrots did look like they’d seen better days though, and we had to ask one of the carvers to replace the cauliflower as it had run out. He didn’t seem very pleased to be asked. Can’t the fault the waitress service, she was lovely, very helpful and amended the bill to a vegetarian meal so we weren’t charged for the meat we couldn’t eat, and explained that every so often they do get a joint that is like that which is fair enough. However, the carvery service being so slow, miserable and disorganised has put us off coming back. Chadderton do it so much better, we’ll be going back there in future.

Family meal. More bar staff needed and some did appear somewhat stressed. I ordered the rack of ribs, they tasted lovely but were no where near hot enough. Good JD sauce. The corn on the cobs were inedible, boiled within in an inch! My husband enjoyed his beef burger, but overall, for the price of food, it’s nothing special. Most of the party were just ‘erm, it was okay’. Good price on a bottle of red wine and the food came out as we ordered, we they wanted us to pay at the bar due to party size. Main male staff member greeting as we walked in was friendly.

We were so looking forward to our romantic valentine's evening. Sadly the previous reviewer has said most of it for us. Extortionately expensive, to be honest, for actually a less than mediocre meal which was not particularly enjoyable. It was obvious, from the occasional groans, the that something was very very wrong in the kitchen, even though front of house staff attemped to cover the cracks with gracious service. Also, yes it was far too cold. Have had lunch several times in this beautiful building, which have been very pleasant, although they really do need to sort out the heating problem.

After a bracing walk around part of Digley Dam this was an ideal stop off to satisfy healthy appetites. It wasn't particularly busy so my friend and I were fortunate to select a table by the window to sample views of the surrounding countryside that the area is famous for. We both chose the regular Fish & Chips, good value at £12 though smaller portions are available at £9.50. My friend's Side Salad cost £4 which I thought expensive for what he received while a side order of Mushy Peas set him back £2. I thought the drinks were expensively priced, £2.90.for a pint of Fanta Orange but we'd visited for the Fish & Chips and these were delicious so it was definitely worth the effort. The menu is quite extensive so there are plenty of alternatives to satisfy most appetites and palates. A good experience.

We were staying at the hotel nearby so visited the Nags Head for drinks / tea. I’m coeliac. They stock gluten free lager by the bottle so we sat outside in the sunshine admiring the view of the pub whilst having a couple of drinks. Our meal was fantastic! Piping hot, delicious hunters chicken and chips ( gluten free) partner had the gammon and chips also delicious 🤤 The only thing I would suggest is to have a separate gluten free menu. Or add gf symbols on the current menu. The process to order gluten free is you’re handed a tablet and you have to enter your preferences. Great customer service , lovely pub. Definitely recommend
