Huddersfield International Crisp Festival inspiring and great with several pints of IPA!

Probably the best jambalaya other than my own, and I have had in New Orleans.

Have been here a couple of times, before and after town games. Great drinking pub with an amazing aray of craft, cask and bottled beers. Last went with my daughter on Tuesday after a depressing defeat against Blackpool. Oktoberfest had started so there was a great range of german beers on offer. I started with a weissebeer Dunkeld, which was delicacies, followed by the Rothaus Pils. Couldn't believe I could get it in Huddersfield. I used to travel to Karlsruhe and the black forest and had it many times there. I then had the Ayinger Kellerbier, which was also nice. However, I saved the best until last. Abinger Celebrator. A dark, rich and intense brew which was both delicious and moreish. I don't usually drink beers over 5.5%, so this was risky, but it paid off! Well worth a visit. It's always busy with great beers, great atmosphere and a really cosy drinkers pub! I didn't eat and wasn't aware of food options, but I wasn't looking to anyway. A must visit pub if in Huddersfield!

A grand showcase for the beer scene in Huddersfield. Meet the brewer and tap takeover events are definitely worth attending. Often has something unusual on. Great beer and a great atmosphere. Arguably the best pub in Huddersfield 😎🍺

Great selection of beer, monthly ‘meet the brewer’ events provide some insight into what your drinking with new entrants regularly updated, while the beer garden is nice and cosy even in the worst weather. Being new to town the friendly staff and patrons help make the place too.

I called in for a drink with a couple of friends and was plesantly surprised at what a really friendly place this pub was and what great ale they serve. A taste from my past when I tried the rhubarb sour beer. Tasted like rubarb and custard sweets but more sour. Will be back agsin

Great place to relax and have a quiet drink in the day. It picks up a bit more in the evening but never more crowded than you'd want it for a good Ale pub. Has some nice bits on cask as well as keg. Some real cider if that's your fancy and some bottled bits. It also has a stamp reward system, who could complain about an occasional free beer. There's a burger/pizza joint that the Sportsman has kindly allowed people to eat in the pub with it. So long as it's not at the bar. It also serves a decent snack range. This is the reason I have placed the pub as having a 4/5 for food, despite not having any directly from here. There is access window to order from the takeout in the beer garden to the pub. Can't complain about the staff I've met, most are really friendly and chatty.

Great drinks to be had at the Sportsman. Lovely art deco interior and great service. Beers change on a regular basis, so there's always something new to sample. Love music is also a really good addition.

If you want a pint of good beer while in the area then deffo go here. I was up there working in March and drinking on my own. This a 10 walk from a local brewery and Taproom so it was perfect for me. The bar itself is quite small but perfectly formed. The range of beers is great from light to dark for different budgets too. Car parking could be difficult but it's also 10 mins walk from the train station.

I love this pub! There's always an outstanding selection of ales and the pies... they are beyond measure! Update: it appears the pies are no longer available, which is massively disappointing. However, the selection of ales is still absolutely top notch.

We went to the Sportsman for a few drinks before going for a meal and it was a lovely experience. Great service and atmosphere. We will definitely be back! ☺️

Popped in for a quick pint after visiting The Crate Escape nearby. Amazing selection of very well kept beers. The interior is fantastic, a really characterful bar, I'll definitely be back!

Group visit, not been here before. Good variety of bitters and mild. Stuck to the 4% range, and the beers were good and flavourful, tho I thought a bit pricey for Yorkshire. Staff friendly and efficient, and there was always someone coming around to clear the tables. Food only pork pies and pasties, but that was fine for us. Pub filled up pretty quickly, and the locals welcomed you into all manner of conversations. A few kids in there, adult-supervised and well-behaved, drinking pops and juice. No problem to me. Convivial atmosphere, I could have stayed longer, but had somewhere else to be. Some of our group returned later.

Lovely little find as it's you can't see who's in there until you go in, we gave it a go and enjoyed it. Selection off different beers and cider, it won't be your cup of tea if you enjoy carling!

Just a cosy, friendly, well stocked pub. I went with baby in pram to meet other parents and babies and felt very welcome on a Friday afternoon. No baby change but not the end of the world. Really good pub.
