An absolute gem! Utterly stunning views across the Clone Valley, heaps of outdoor space, a super warm welcome from the lovely landlord and locals, and Empire ale on cask and Mexican street food to boot. Would massively recommend to anyone looking for a scenic drink in the area, and definitely more than worth the walk 🍻

My partner and I made a much longed for return to the Rose & Crown last week. The pub is located on a hill overlooking the rolling hills of Slaithwaite. Following a 1 mile walk from the centre of the village, naturally up hill so I wouldn’t recommend the walk for those who tire easily! You arrive at the authentic and cosy Rose & Crown. They have a beautiful outside seating area and have outside cover. Inside is your classic English pub vibes, they have a main bar area and a few rooms that off shoot the main entrance which allows for a more private or less hustle and bustle atmosphere. We were greeted by the owner with a welcoming smile and personalised chat about our walk and how we ended up in his pub today! Extremely welcoming and makes you feel at ease after a leg heavy walk. There are a variety of drinks to quench your thirst, I even managed to spot a Thatchers Zero apple cider which is often unheard of in pubs! The music was spot on in the background (for me anyway!) and one room had sports playing for those who wanted to join. The pub will often have an outside projector under cover to watch main sporting events. My partner and I had a few drinks, played a few games and had a pizza from the food truck that alternates upon each week. I understand this pub hit hard times after Lockdown and has only recently opened on reduced hours. I want to shout this charismatic pub from the hilltops and remind everyone that it’s back open! It’s a gem of a pub an excuse to get your walking boots on, dust the cobwebs off and trek for a well earned drink! Parking is also plentiful for those whose walking attire is hung up for the day. I’d only like to see more alcohol free options (that replicate savory non alcohol drinks like apple ciders and IPAs over ‘mixed fruit’ options) and … tricky enough being low alcohol, the pub used to be amazing with dietary variations, but since the venders came on site it can be quite restrictive dietary wise due to the nature of being ‘pop up’. However, plenty of snacks and posh crisps behind the bar! The Rose & Crown is certainly worth the visit, if visiting from out of town or nipping up to one of your locals. The food and drink is spot on and cosy at ease atmosphere is all anyone asks for in this busy world! 🍻 Oh! And a bonus, the pub is dog friendly, infact with the decor seems to encourage dogs! 🐕

Came here for a few drinks and was absolutely fantastic! The outside area has gorgeous views and they had a Mexican food van with very tasty food. Steve was so friendly and lovely, we will definitely be back!

Our 'local' albeit a mile away. Called in for drinks with friends. Usual hospitable atmosphere and attentive staff. Cracking night with at the Rose Saturday, with like minded locals, for food, drink and catchup 😊

Went on a quiet monday evening and it was lovely - the food we had was the best pub food I've had in years, and the waitress was lovely - though wer're not from the area we will definitely be back. Lovely and chritsmassy too.

Got Sunday lunch here, hadn't booked but they fitted us in. Have to say the service was exceptional, really friendly & efficient. Food was delicious & the atmosphere lovely & relaxed. Overall had a really nice dining experience. Would recommend to anyone in the area.

Would prefer carvery rather than plated meal. Handrail very sticky. Could do with refurbishment.

Sat outside on a lovely sunny day. I had the fish pie and my husband had the fish and chips from the lunchtime menu (this is a smaller portion than a main meal so priced at £9.50) which he enjoyed. My fish pie was more expensive at £17.50 as it was a main meal and although it was a good sized portion I wasn't impressed. It was VERY cheesy and although there was lots of prawns and salmon in their, the prawns were very hard and chewy. The accompanying roast veg were delicious though. I'm hoping this was a one off as I have eaten here before and never had a problem. The staff are very friendly and helpful. The view is also so peaceful. I would recommend and return, I would probably just not have the fish pie.

Visited here whilst on a walk through the Marsden Moors. We wad a drink in the beer garden which has lovely views over the valley. We the. Went inside for lunch time food. We both had fish and chips which was lovely. We selected this off the lunch time menu and we were not disappointed by the portion size. Will return

This is a pub I spent a lot of time in, in my youth. Glad to say the food and service is topnotch, very friendly staff. Two for one meals brilliant.

Poor roast dinner one small slice of beef one roast small heping of mash one carrot one parnsnip one hard floret of cauliflowe and one pud.

We had an excellent lunch - delicious pie served with fresh vegetables and the most amazing chips! We weren’t sure they would welcome 2 very wet walkers but we were offered a hearty meal served with friendly cheer and good humour. Can’t wait to come back, in sunshine next time 🤞🏼

Excellent home cooked food in a setting overlooking the Colne Valley, really nice.

A nice place for a party event I would recommend but for about 50 The food is good and you certainly get what you pay for I well recommend its not cheap but it's worth it 😉 👌 0

Excellent value, and great food. We're not too local, so we were delighted to find this gem. We had a Sunday lunch, which represented great value. The soup, roast, and deserts were amazing. There was a good selection of beers and ales, and the rioja was gorgeous. Hopefully, we'll have an excuse to return again soon. The weather wasn't amazing, but the views are great from here. Would definitely recommend it.

We had a family reunion with 20 people. The upstairs room was ideal with a great view from the windows. There was also another party of similar size sitting in the marquee area outside. Service was a bit slow with all that number, which wasn't a problem as we were enjoying catching up with each other. The staff were great and couldn't do enough to help us all. The food was great with generous portion sizes.

Had our mother’s funeral wake there last week. Great food, great atmosphere and Steve, the landlord goes the extra mile to make sure everything is just perfect. Great Gluten free menu too! Will be back!

Had the sunday roast beef dinner ! Was lovely in a beautiful location. Only gripe was it was on the cold side and at £16 a pop you expect it to be piping hot but they were fairly busy ! Still wolfed it down as the flavours were outstanding. Well worth a visit.

Absolutely delicious food and drink

We had a family gathering to celebrate my husbands 70th and our 47yr anniversary. Food was very good, children's portions were just right. The staff were very hood and attentive. Worth the visit and the journey.

Called at the Rose and Crown mid afternoon for my birthday. Beautiful day, beautiful views and beautiful food. The bar man was absolutely lovely, proper yorkshireman, he was attentive and helped us decide on what to eat on the menu. The food took a while to cook but I'm fine with that because when it came it was 10/10 and clearly all homemade. I had the cheese and onion pie and my other half steak and ale pie. The portions were plentiful and came with veg and chips. Desserts were also homemade, we both opted for the crumble, delish! The bar man even sang happy birthday to me, slightly embarrassing but a lovely touch. Will definitely be back we love it there!

Absolutely beautiful food. Landlord is extremely friendly, and his staff are a credit to him. Striking scenery, and a fanatic story about the Australian ghost attached to the pub. We'll certainly return.

The pub has had a recent makeover and is looking fresh and pretty. The staff were friendly and welcoming. As ever, the views were stunning in the spring sunshine. We had the fish and chips, which were excellent. Looking forward to another visit soon.

Really enjoyable little place, booked as it was equidistant between us and some friends. Landlord and staff were incredibly nice As a free house so good selection of cask and keg ale as well as inches cider. Catered for vegans (separate menu so will just need to ask) lovely views all round top notch place

Lovely setting with beautiful views on a clear day. Friendly staff and a very welcoming atmosphere. Lovely, piping hot, homemade food. The apple crumble and custard was a particular highlight.

First time .....but most definitely will not be the last ! In fact booked in with friends for next Sunday. We had forgotten it was Mothers Day but nevertheless had a great Sunday lunch choice. Both starters and mains were excellent plus TTs "Landlord" was heavenly. Shared an ice cream sundae as our suite.... with a wide choice of flavours available. Service was excellent....we had turned up early but was able to go straight to our table. All in all a great experience ....and special mention to the young lady serving who had just had a massive weekend in Dublin but still turned up for work !! 🤣🤣

Day off so decided to go out for a drive, rather than a walk as the weather was bad. Found this place on Google (don’t follow the sat nav, very thin lane). What a find great views over Slaithewaite and good food as well.

Excellent atmosphere and friendly staff. Can be a bit difficult to find, but worth the trip. The food was very good. Would go again.

Excellent food, atmosphere and superb views. The only negative is it's off a single track road made for simpler times. Well worth a visit though.

Nice dog friendly pub. Really nice home cooked food. Can get quite busy as seemed really popular so may be best booking. Loved the little quotes all round the bar. Excellent views. Just maybe avoid marsden Lane as a very steep narrow climb to the pub, there was an alternate route up.

Average after been so good for many of years . The starters were poor and the puddings were Average . The turkey was nice but drowned the meal with to much gravy . The place is up for sale so don't think they are bothered but It cost 72 pounds for 2 of us and only had a couple of beers 😒😒

Went yesterday for a roast Sunday dinner, the food was lovely and reasonably priced. Would definitely visit again if I’m ever in the area.

Visited with family for lunch. Hidden gem of a place. Fantastic views across the valley and beyond. Lots of seating areas outside. Traditional country pub decor. Lunch menu excellent and prices are very reasonable. Staff pleasant and friendly. Didn't book but it was very busy. So may be best to ring ahead to enquire about a table. Dogs allowed. Will return. Highly recommended.

Visiting brother and his partner and taken to Rose & Crown for Sunday lunch. Roast cannot be beaten, they don't do small portions in Yorkshire! Great setting, lovely pub, highly recommended.

Warm and friendly welcome - nice and quiet (when we had lunch) Very clean throughout and homely feel to the place. The food was fantastic, we waited a while but it was worth the wait as it was all cooked hot and fresh …the homemade chunky chips were delicious. Will certainly return here again in the future

2nd visit in less than a week. Both times absolutely fantastic. Food is homecooked and delicious. Partner had a roast both times, I had chicken, ham and cheese pie with proper homemade chips the first time and a burger today. Can't fault the food, the price or the staff. Will definitely be back again, and again and again.....

Visited this evening with a friend for tea. Both had the 3 small plates for £15. Really yummy. Cookie dough dessert was lovely too. Friendly staff too. The view is just amazing too. Great evening, thank you!

The best place to be on a sunny day

The place is really nice really welcoming staff food was good but the burgers were a little lost in the huge bun! But that’s alls I can think of, the chicken bites were delicious and the views from outside are outstanding

Slightly dated interior, but this is really a plus point. Fantastic location and views. Hood selection of drinks and hood food. Particularly recommend the pies.
