A typical English pub with restaurant. Serving a wide range of beers, lagers wine and usual spirits, soft drinks and coffee, this pub is a must to get away from the rat race for a relaxing and enjoyable sojourn back to quality standards. The welcome is wholesome, the food is excellent, well presented and served.. I can't fault this hostelty and my wife, daughter and I are regularly viditors. Well done Carole, Mark and staff.

Second visit to this place for a Sunday roast. The food we had was really good and plentiful. The beef was in good thick slices served with freshly made Yorkshire puddings and came with extra gravy. I had the fish pie which was huge and very tasty and came with extra parsley sauce plus cauliflower and broccoli cheese. It was quite busy in the bar area so the service clearing the table was a bit hadoc as there was only the landlord and one waitress managing the bar and serving food. I realise that you can never predict how busy you’re going to be but whilst both were friendly and polite, the service could have been a little better. However this wouldn’t stop me visiting in the future as the food was so good it made up for the small niggles,

A little gem of a pub in a beautiful part of Yorkshire. Great and generous home cooked food and great beers. Its a quirky decorated pub well lit and spotlessly clean, nick- nacks all around make it very interesting, I felt at home soon as I entered this pub. The staff were polite and friendly . we called here while walking in the area and will definitely call again ,highly recommend this establishment.

We visited as a family of 7. I pre-booked the table as it was for a Friday night. It was a little quiet inside which was disappointing considering how good the food is!There was a great selection of food to choose from on the menu and it arrived in good timing. The portions are a little on the large side for me but I know many like this aspect. There was a great selection of drinks at the bar including local beers. The service was fantastic. We were not pestered by the staff but we were offered drinks regularly and the table was cleared promptly. They all came across as genuine people.A little ambient music in the dining area would be great. The facilities were clean and sufficient. There is also an outside area for food/drinks if the Yorkshire weather holds up.For animal lovers; dogs are welcome outside and in the bar area. There is a doggy menu for snacks.

Our first visit here , lots of people sat outside restaurant was quietist but soon filled up. We booked beforehand. Well worth a visit £12.95 for Sunday lunch with a choice of meats , the food was cooked to perfection. I couldn’t fault the overall meal and I am choosy ! We didn’t have room for starters or desserts if we had gone for a smaller portion £6.95 then we may have managed one.A wide variety of vegetables accompanied by a large portion of meat or chicken with a decent sized tasty Yorkshire pudding filled us for the rest of the day. The staff were very friendly ,my only comment would have been I like to put my own tonic in the gin and not have it drowned however that was a small issue and I’m sure won’t happen again when we return as we certainly will do .

Visited tonight with the intention of eating here. We walked in to see a dog eating out of the same plates as humans sat on the bench eating at the table. We challenged this and the dog owners stated there’s a dog menu and the young boy behind the bar thought it was also OK because guess what! They wash the plates. Absolutely disgusting!! Needless to say we walked straight back out. If you’re going to offer a dog menu then serve it up in a proper dog bowl and don’t allow the animals to eat off the table.

I had been so looking forward to eating here after a drop in for a drink last year and being enticed by promises of pints of fresh prawns, classic aromas from the kitchen and enthusiasm from the owner. The menu now looks like a selection of burgers, pizzas, fish and chips, pasta and pie. I did enjoy the battered brie with red onion marmalade as a starter but the chicken wings were a bit lacking in taste and texture. The lamb pie with mash and gravy was also a bit lacking in seasoning although the kale and carrot showed glimmers of aspiration. The chips with the fish were a bot overlarge and overcooked. I just feel a bit disappointed, this was going to be the Easter highlight and it all went a bit flat.

....but there wasn't any! Just been for lunch today. When we walked in there were two young lady staff members neither of whom greeted us on arrival - one of my pet hates. First impressions make so much difference. If you are busy serving someone else at least say to your customer, 'Hello, I'll be with you shortly. ' Don't just ignore them. We waited for at least five minutes before the manager - Lisa, I think??? came down looking a little tired which she explained was due to a late night the previous evening. Sorry, Lisa but customers don't want to hear that and it doesn't fill them with confidence that the experience you are about to enjoy will be a good one. Lead by example. The pub was by no means full, however a table of twelve had already ordered drinks and had begun their starters shortly after we ordered 2 hot sandwiches, one cold sandwich and a pizza. At no time were we told there would be any significant delay. After 40 minutes, I went to the bar and asked one young lady how long we would be for food? She looked at me quizzically and stated it would be 'soon.' A little tip here: go and ask the chef and find out! We waited a further 10 minutes and on the point of walking out, the food arrived. It was decidedly average, edible but just average. We were given no condiments and had to ask. A little later we were asked if the food was alright. We replied that it was ok, but everything else was not; no welcome, poor service etc. The girl replied, walking away, 'oh, right. ' We were asked again a little later by the second waitress and we said the same thing. She did apologise but it was clear that she just didn't possess the authority to know how to put it right. Lisa: please train your staff properly so that they know how to meet and greet customers, keep them informed and reassured throughout so that they enjoy the experience and will return. We stated to the waitress that we would not be coming back. On departure she said, 'see you later......' Sorry, Lisa, but not if we see you first!!!!

The pudding menu is varied and I had the sticky toffee pudding and my husband had the crumble, both of which were very generous sizes. " Gastropub " it says on their website....NEVER ! We went for Sunday lunch after reading how popular this place was on our local FB page. Not the nicest of dining areas , certainly not like their photos. Tiled floor , mis-matched furniture, more like a transport cafe for lorry drivers. The whole place is very rundown and drab , peeling wallpaper, damp patches etc. No starters available . Meat was tender and plates piled high but frozen soggy sprouts, cabbage with loads of stalk and nothing seasoned at all . Very bland .Not a good experience. We like to support local businesses but sadly won't return here. The staff were lovely but it needs a lot of money and a total revamp in order to survive . I hope it does!

The food has changed from traditional food your gammon and chips, fish and chips etc to trying to compare with bao buns at the Riverhead, sorry no contest. The pub smells of wet dogs particularly around the fire and the sofas and been bitten there. Not in a rush to go back .

We were seated quickly in a pleasant room. After a shortish wait we ordered 2 sandwiches, a portion of chips and 2 coffees. After a long wait the coffee arrived but was only lukewarm, I asked for another one that was hotter but the waitress seemed confused, eventually we got replacements which were slightly warmer but I didn't want to risk complaining twice ... The food was delicious but the chips were plonked down with no offer of vinegar or sauces, not even salt. After rugby tackling a passing waitress we asked for vinegar which was deposited on the table but with no comment or question about whether there was anything else we wanted. At no point did anyone ever come back to the table to ask if everything was alright or did we want anything else, which considering it is table service and not cheap, I would expect. We are still here wondering how on earth we pay as we have been finished for at least 15 minutes and are still being studiously ignored. Maybe if we get up to leave they might notice us. To summarise food lovely if expensive service atrocious.
